The 12 Best Speakeasies In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The Exhibition Room is the closest you’ll get to a Prohibition-era speakeasy in LA, minus the moonshine smuggling. Located inside Roxanne’s in Long Beach, this speakeasy requires squeezing through a tiny phone booth to enter. There’s also a strict dress code, reservations are recommended, and you’ll need a password received via text. Got all that? Once you’re in, expect brass bands, burlesque shows, and well-made classic cocktails that float around $15 (a pretty good deal these days)." - sylvio martins, garrett snyder

The 16 Best Bars In Long Beach - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The Exhibition Room is a speakeasy inside Roxanne's cocktail bar in the Cal Heights neighborhood of Long Beach. They have a strict dress code and require reservations, and there’s a tiny phone booth you have to squeeze through to get into the place. Also, you need a password that you’ll receive via text. If it sounds like a complete production, it is. But the good news is that it’s worth it. Once you’re inside, expect live brass bands, burlesque shows, and incredibly well-made cocktails that aren’t too expensive. If you’re looking to impress whoever you're drinking with, you can’t do much better than The Exhibition Room." - brant cox, nikko duren

17 Bars to Sip Martinis in Los Angeles

"Long Beach’s Prohibition-themed bar takes reservations on Friday and Saturdays only. Give the password at the door, order a martini, and if the right night there’s live music, stand-up comedy nights, burlesque shows to accompany the drink." - Farley Elliott, Mona Holmes

False Advertising and Total Failure of a “Speakeasy” This place should not call itself a speakeasy. According to their website, they are strict about dress code, reservations, and no large parties. None of that was enforced. People arrived wearing sports clothes, tennis shoes, and flip-flops, and a group of more than 10 people was allowed in. That group was loud, drunk, and screaming, completely destroying any speakeasy ambiance. We had a reservation booked one week in advance for 2 tables of six, yet by 8:30 pm, we were told no food was available, despite the bar being almost empty. The water was already on the table when we arrived and tasted strongly of chlorine, with no ice. The waitress was clearly new, untrained, and unprepared. She did not know the menu, didn’t know how to take an order properly, and provided no guidance whatsoever. There was one bartender Ricardo, who took over an hour to prepare cocktails and showed no sense of urgency or care. The dramatic cocktail descriptions sounded impressive, but the drinks did not match the descriptions at all. Because of the delays, we were never even able to properly toast or celebrate our friend. The charcuterie board took forever and arrived with an absurd amount of cheese and only six pieces of bread. To make things worse, part of the food we ordered never arrived at all. The live jazz band advertised and promised never showed up. When asked, the staff responded with: “I don’t know, they were supposed to be here. I don’t have their phone number.” That level of disorganization is unacceptable. At the en if the night, we were shocked to receive a check close to $600 for two tables, despite each person only having one cocktail and shared food. The bartender, Ricardo, approached us and said: “Well, sorry, we really tried tonight! It wasn’t the best, but we tried.” Honestly, that comment made the experience even more frustrating. I can’t imagine how bad it would have been if they hadn’t “tried.”That statement perfectly summarizes the problem — trying is not enough when everything fails. I would not recommend this place for a speakeasy experience. This is not a speakeasy. It’s a poorly run bar hiding behind a concept it does not deliver. Do not recommend.

I deeply regret choosing this venue to celebrate my husband’s birthday. What was supposed to be a special evening with friends turned into a very embarrassing and disappointing experience. We made a reservation for 12 people and informed the venue well in advance that this was a birthday celebration. Despite this, we were made to wait upon arrival, and the waitress attempted to split our group into two separate tables in different areas, even though there was clearly enough space to seat us together, especially since only two tables were occupied at the time. Service throughout the night was terrible. Drinks took an extremely long time to arrive, were half-filled, and the birthday guest—was the last person to receive his drink.Because of the excessive wait time, we were unable to order additional drinks, as it took so long just to receive the first round. Food service was just as poor. The waitress actively promoted the steak and fries plate to the table, yet when we attempted to order, only three people were able to get it, and the rest of my guests were told they had run out. Plates arrived late and inconsistently, and the shared charcuterie board, which was advised we wanted to share, arrived last and was a complete disappointment for a $60 item. If a venue cannot fulfill food orders, they should not be offering food at all. The bill came to around $700, and given the level of service and food quality, it was totally overpriced. On top of that, an automatic gratuity was added, which felt completely unjustified due to the terrible service. The biggest disappointment was the lack of live jazz music, which was the main reason we booked this place. After 9:30 PM, I asked the bartender about it and received a rude and dismissive response, stating "I don't know" and that he did not have their contact information. Customer service is clearly not a priority here. The dress code was also misleading. The venue stated “beyond casual,” specifically no jeans, T-shirts, or tennis shoes. I felt so embarrassed with my friends as I asked them to follow the place dress code only to arrive and see other guests were allowed wearing exactly what the dress code claimed was not permitted. The venue became very loud and crowded and felt more like a bar hidden inside another bar—nothing upscale or refined. To make matters worse, the water served was warm and unpleasant. The menus were torn and stained. The waitress promoted the steak and fries plate because it included ice cream and churros, yet those items were never brought out until we reviewed the bill andhad to requested them. This venue is overpriced, poorly managed, lack of customer service, and does not deliver what it advertises. I would strongly advise against booking this place for anything special for celebration or special events.

Great speakeasy! We loved it! We love going to speakeasy in NYC and this place is on par with NYC’s speakeasies. Hidden, great entrance with a passcode, inside was well decorated, drinks were unique- they talked to us before they made the drinks that suited us- pretty cool, dimmed, great food, staff was supper friendly. Only downside was that the band that was supposed to show up for live music cancelled last minute so that’s the only reason for the 4. This place was amazing. Thank you so much for a great date night.

Google
A reservation was made for 12 people. The person in charge of reservations could not accommodate a single reservation for 12, but instead would make two reservations for 6 people each. That sounded perfectly fine. We arrived last night with our full group of 12 at the reserved time. We provided both reservation confirmations and were told we needed to wait because the restaurant was “extremely busy” and that they would let us know when our tables were ready. That already raised a red flag. If reservations are made days in advance and the restaurant operates by reservation only, how are the tables not ready at the scheduled time? About 10 minutes later, we were told we could enter. To our surprise, the restaurant was almost completely empty—two people at the bar and one table with three men. That was it. The two reserved tables were placed separately. Considering we were a group of 12 with two reservations of 6, it would be logical to seat us together. We had to request this, and although the restaurant was empty, they gave us some pushback before finally accommodating us. When we sat down, the tables already had water glasses served. Personally, I find it very unprofessional to arrive at a restaurant and find water that has already been sitting there, with no idea how long it had been or who may have touched it. Then came the menus. They were paper sheets, stained, torn, and folded. This was very disappointing for a restaurant that presents itself online as an upscale, high-expectation establishment. Now, let’s talk about the dress code. The website clearly states elegant/business attire and lists what is not allowed. However, we saw people walking in wearing Christmas T-shirts, Christmas jackets, flip-flops, and very casual clothing. They advertise a dress code, but clearly do not enforce it. As for the food and drinks—the cocktails are extremely overpriced. There was only one bartender, and it took an excessive amount of time for drinks to arrive. For the price, the cocktails were not even served as full glasses. One table ordered food first. Three people ordered the steak and fries, which comes with churros and ice cream. When the second table of six tried to order the same dish, they were told there were only three left. This is unacceptable. Going to a restaurant and being told that an advertised dish is almost unavailable is a terrible experience. In the end, the steak and fries had to be shared so everyone could at least try it. By 9:30 PM, the live jazz music never happened. The website clearly advertises live jazz on Fridays and Saturdays, which was one of the main reasons we chose this restaurant to celebrate my friend’s birthday—he loves jazz. This was another major disappointment. No one was able to order a second cocktail because it would take over 30 minutes for each drink to arrive, one at a time. Overall, the experience was horrible. Way too expensive for what the restaurant actually offers. To make matters worse, the churros and ice cream that came with the steak and fries were never served. We only noticed when the bill arrived, and we had to ask for them to go. In short, everything advertised on their website is misleading. They use fancy words to describe an “exclusive” and “unique” experience, but the reality is far from that. Unprofessional staff, dirty and torn paper menus, limited food availability, excessive delays, no live music, and a very high bill at the end. This is one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve had. If I could give zero stars, I would—but unfortunately, one star is the lowest option, and that’s all they deserve.

Google
Don't do it. Went in on a Saturday at 8. Took 30mins to order and an hour to get 7 drinks (drinks came at 9:28). We were also missing one drink. We were once of 4-5 tables. Most other groups were 2-4 people, so it wasn't even busy. Server beer came back to even offer water. I had to get up to get my own water.

Google
Really disappointed with the service more than anything else. We were a party of 12 with 8:00 pm reservations but were not given a table until 8:30 and when they finally sat us, the place was empty. The server had no clue, she gave us a drink menu to order food and then was shocked that there was a second menu for food like it was her first day. The bartender was the worst. I've been a bartender and a bar manager at two restaurants and this person has no business behind a bar on a Fri night. It took about 25 minutes for a few drinks to arrive and then about 30 minutes for more drinks to arrive. He came with a whiskey flute but we never ordered it and told him that we did not order it. He argued and argued until someone just agreed to take it. This was about an hour after we had been seated and a few people at our table still had not received their drinks. I don't drink alcohol so I tried the water and it tasted like it was from a swimming pool from all the chlorine and why no ice in the water? The steaks and fries are sizzler quality. The steak was so thin that it would only be well done. The charcuterie board had a few blocks of cheese, several cherry tomatoes and small pickles. Is it me or is that strange? Never saw that before and don't want to see it again. One person from our table went to the bar to get a drink since no server returned to our table and he waited for about 25 minutes before returning to our table without a drink, the bartender didn't have time to even acknowledge him. The jazz band that was supposed to play that night never showed up which was a big let down. We waited over three hours and never received the desserts that were supposed to come with the meal so we asked for the check and they gave us ice cream to go which melted in the car. The bartender told us he knew we were upset but at least he was trying. Are you kidding me, we spent over $600 and would have happily spent twice as much for our friends birthday celebration but it was impossible to get a drink or order more food. The speakeasy was pathetically empty for a Friday night and that should have been a red flag. More than anything I am upset for my friends wife that put together a surprise party for her husband's 50th birthday, you could see how upset she was. He loves jazz and this place seemed great online but no, we were catfished by the pictures online. That whole thing that they have online about a dress code is B.S. The people that came in after us had on flip flops, shorts, clothes like they were going grocery shopping. Why do they even state a dress code? Our party was very well dressed for nothing. The seats were like the old fashioned church pews without any cushions on them. After sitting there for three hours my back was killing me. Could they really not afford seats? How is this place even open? Good to see friends but we will meet somewhere, ANYWHERE, else next time.

2nd time here at the Exhibition Room and I have to say that it was as enjoyable as the first time I was here 3 years ago. Walk through Roxanne's bar straight towards the pool table and make a left at the phone booth. Pick up the phone, buzz it in, yell the person your password, BE PATIENT, then walk in when ready. The atmosphere is excellent! They open up at 7pm. We had a reservation for 715pm for 6 then for 5 @730pm and all went without a hitch. There was enough room for everyone at our table at this time. About 930 it starts to get very lively! The music starts flowing, live tuba and piano begin playing and the place starts to get a little crowded and loud. The drinks here are on the pricier side as to be expected, but fantastic! Mixologist know their stuff for sure! Any type of alcohol I threw at them they knew what t make or made it in the fly. From mezcal to your everyday martini they got your drink covered. The wait for drinks start to get long about 930ish because there was only two mixologist working and trying to tend to many, many people at a time SO IF YOU BE PATIENT, WAIT YOUR TURN AND THEY'LL SERVE YOU WITHOUT ANY ISSUES. If you're going to be impatient while in in here, THEN THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU! So, come here, ENJOY THE ATMOSPHERE, BE PATIENT AND UNDERSTANDING, get your drink on and hang out. CHEERS!

Absolutely love this cocktail bar. Amazing vibe, great drinks, and my bar tender was incredibly friendly. Highly recommend checking this spot out.

Yelp
Cool little hidden gem! Love that you actually need to have a password to get in. We dropped in after a friend's wedding, and the cocktails and service were top notch! I definitely recommend dropping in here if you like secret spots.

Yelp
It's a fools consent for the esthetic on a speakeasy, event thought the passcode was forgotten and everyone working there keeps each other out in a sense even though they are party of the bar which was cool. Saturday night me and my husband were the first to arrive at 7pm, shorting after a live band performed. After the speakeasy you're greeting to an authentic tiki bar, they bare tender was insightful and gave us options on drink choose and bomb food is served out here. Service was quick to an extent, they was a hiccup with our drink and it dropped but that happens and the entire experience of definitely go again. I'd probably head straight to the tiki bar, as I found that open space, less claustrophobic and I enjoyed the refreshers

Yelp
I love speakeasies and this one did not disappoint! We had to use a telephone booth to get in, but unfortunately it took a while because there was only one person working the whole room! He was the bartender the server and answered the phone! The drinks were yummy And the music was great!

Yelp
This place is a no show!! It's states business is open from 6pm to 12am Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Had reservations for 5 x people at 8pm on Thursday. I showed up with my party, come to find out this place was closed for the night! Embarrassing on my part because I brought my party with anticipation to experience this speakeasy. Some flew as far as Nebraska. Yelp sent me reminders to confirm my reservation twice, the day of. So dissapointed with the service given by the establishment. No courtesy call, no reply and most importantly ..... A no show! With the given fact, this establishment holds no accountability for customer service professionalism. Managers are unavailable and coordinators were no where to be found. Don't trust their reservation system. It does not work! No honor of business integrity to notify the patrons that made reservations. If there is some type of feedback after reading this review, apologizing and making excuses why workers did not show up. I am going to tell you right now that I don't care to hear the excuses given. Not our problem. You as a business should of identified and corrected the problem. Bad taste for business.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here but kind of hard to get my fiancés schedule to match with there reservations lol. Luckily we both had a long week and they had a late reservation. To enter this place is unique and hidden. Wouldn't expect it. We were helped right away. And didn't wait too long our our custom drinks. The drinks were well made and taste great! Nice kick! The ambiance is very vintage and relaxed.

Yelp
Amazing ambiance. It was very dark with candlelight. Jazz music. Really enjoyed the drinks as well

Yelp
So. My very kind, sweet, thoughtful significant other saw a random reel on this speakeasy and decided to book a reservation for our anniversary, unbeknownst to Hilary coming to town. Upon the weekend approaching, we both called multiple times throughout the day (both Roxanne's and the exhibition room's line). Nobody answered. The voicemail boxes for both numbers are full. The reservation email says to call if you're running late or need to cancel. Buuuut you can't if nobody answers, and if you can't leave a message. This is easily a quick cash-grab for anyone with reservations during the storm, and leaves a poor taste in my mouth.
google avatar

Cindy P.

Yelp
My friends and I wanted to go to a speakeasy and I found this spot randomnly on Instagram. You need to make a reservation! Once you make a reservation, they will text you later on during the day with the code. There's a dress code to go here! We aren't sure if they are strict with the dress code, but we dress up anyways. I think that it was worth it to dress up here because of the ambiance here! The workers here are friendly and welcoming! The Blue Berry Muffin drink is a must!!! It tastes exactly like a Blue Berry Muffin! The vanilla really stands out and I'm obsess! The cocktails here are awesome and the price is great! The cocktails are about $15 or less!

Yelp
What a fun adventure! I've been to a few speakeasys and this is a winner. Entering through a phone booth with a secret password- very fun. Once inside you are asked to order from a select menu, but you can ask for a specific drink (I.e. martini). The night we went we had a sizable party and there was one waiter hustling his butt off to get drinks to everyone- so we had to wait a bit. We also ate at the restaurant attached to the site. The food was surprisingly good. To be honest I expected a classier atmosphere at the restaurant but they made up for it with the menu.
google avatar

Jenny N.

Yelp
I went on a Thursday night hoping for a jazz show but unfortunately it was a stand up comedy show that was a bit underwhelming & a little awkward. I liked the phone booth buzzed to enter & that the security from the sports bra kind of escorts you there. There was only one server working that day so I felt kind of bad for her waiting on all the tables. The drinks she made were very syrupy so also a bit disappointing but maybe this wouldn't be the case on a day there would be more service.

Yelp
So fun to catch up w friends. Low lighting. Great ambiance. Loved the piano. This would be a great date night with the boyfriend. Can't wait to come back. I love that they have limited reservations. Keeps it from feeling too cramped or crowded. Not a place to go to meet people but definitely a place to catch up with a friend or two!

Yelp
As an update. Have not even uttered the name of this place or thought of ever going back. No one ever reached out either. Shame.

Yelp
The Exhibition Room, next to Roxanne's Cocktail Lounge, the connection through the vintage 1940s-era phone booth sets the tone for the adventure that awaits. A nod to the past, revealing the secret password from Roxanne's website adds an element of excitement that piques your curiosity even before you step foot inside. Securing a reservation is essential, and trust me, the anticipation only makes the experience more exhilarating. The exclusivity of entry ensures that you're in for a tailor-made evening of wonder and delight. The drink menu is nothing short of extraordinary. The mixologists at The Exhibition Room are true masters of their craft, conjuring up innovative cocktail creations that are nothing short of works of art.

Yelp
A M A Z I N G service and drinks from the bartender, Zack and host, Joseph. I'm so happy with our experience. I brought my boyfriend as a first date I set up on my own for him, and he was super impressed. Zack and Joseph made the ambiance amazing and were so attentive and personable. I'm so glad this was the first date I planned and it went so smooth. Thankful for the service and great experience!

Yelp
The Exhibition Room was a very cute and rather small speakeasy inside of another bar. A reservation is absolutely necessary in order to visit here, but the pay phone secret entrance was really fun. When we went, they had someone playing live music on the piano and had a very intimate, 1920s prohibition feel. The cocktails were delicious and very fancy! There is room for seating and you get a waiter that come directly to your table, which is nice, although it was a bit slow despite how small the place is. All in all, definitely worth seeing.
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
This was our first time visiting the r recreation room in the back of Roxanne's bar. Very cool experience. You Gotta make sure to make reservations on a Friday or Saturday night. Devon the bartender is a really fun, skilled mixologist, with a great personality. He is a cross between Denzel and I know some modern actor I can't think of the last name of right now. And his cocktail assistant is Algernon. Yes that's right, like the book "flowers for Algernon." Algernon is a very nice door key that answers the phone and let UN when it's time to enter the background. If you are looking for a nice place to chill, enjoy a sandy voiced tenor at the piano and some craft cocktails in a quiet space, you definitely want to try the recreation room at the back of Roxanne's.

Yelp
I was reluctant to do this review because it's not like I encountered bad service or anything. I decided to do it as a heads up to those that have been to an actual speakeasy. For others this may be a great spot for you. I've been to several speakeasies and unfortunately this one falls waaaay short. I called an hour and a half before my reservation because I never received the passcode. A big part of the mystery and allure of a speakeasy is getting that passcode or password for entry. I was told they would be sent out within the half hour. Half hour passes and no password sent. I call back to be told that there will be no passwords just give your name. Well that's like having a regular reservation anywhere. I was extremely disappointed. Strike 1! Arrived, walked up to the dinky phone booth and was let in after giving my name on the reservation. Again disappointed. The door opens to the tiniest little room. I legit asked myself, where's the rest of it. We were sat at a table but preferred a bigger table in which the waitress was going to sit us, only to be told by the bartender that that was for a table of four. We were only two. Mind you the whole time we were there, no one was sat at that table. Strike 2! Finally we ordered drinks. Another allure to speakeasies are the unique drinks they make. You typically can't order those drinks at any old bar. So when taking my order, I told the waitress what I liked expecting the bartender to make me a magical drink. Well I asked for a smokey, spicy type of drink. I was highly anticipating a good drink because every speakeasy I've been to has produced. Well the waitress comes back and said essentially he made me a penicillin but with mezcal. A penicillin???? Fr???? This is a joke right??? Where's the cameras because I'm being punked. Unfortunately I was not and he actually made me a penicillin, lol. Strike 3! We finished our awful drinks and went to a bar that makes good drinks. This is not a speakeasy. It's a tiny enclosed bar with black walls that serves awful drinks!! The waitress was a doll though! Also it says upscale attire. Ummmmm it's not. I saw people in jeans, tshirts and ball caps. When asked if there was a dress code, I was told yes but the table that was dressed down was the owner and his friends. Strike 4! Oh wait, they already struck out, game over! Won't be back under any circumstances. If you like real speakeasy's pass this one up. But if you like dark bars that serve mediocre drinks, this is the place for you! But in all honesty, everyone is different and you may enjoy it. It's not my taste at all! I gave it two stars because I liked the waitress.

Yelp
Super intimate speakeasy with friendly bartenders and refreshing drinks. Pornstar Martini was so refreshing and delicious, and our gentleman bartender was personable and friendly. Good for a quiet date night, no food.

Yelp
I felt like I was part of Peaky Blinders! Everyone was having a great time enjoying the music, drinks, and ambience. Live music, unique cocktails, ample space to celebrate with friends or other groups of people. Reservations required. Dress up highly recommended! Fun and hidden gem in the middle of Roxanne's!

Yelp
An absolute GEM!!! I looked at several speakeasys on this app and I just knew this was the place to celebrate my loves birthday. It's adorable. From the phone booth, decor, our attentive and charming server, bartender (that can SANG) and makes impressive craft cocktails (I need a tutorial for salted kisses) and the Band, Ambrosius Jazz Darlings ( I have their card which is why I remember the name)was the true icing on my babe's birthday cake. Song selection was outstanding. We danced and had a great time with fellow patrons. It was a perfect night. The Mr. had a great birthday. It was our last night in So Cal (we kept telling people we don't live here). We go to a lot of speakeasys and this one ranks high, a top 5 all time out of 20+ speakeasys all over the country. I don't like to leave reviews because now everyone will know this place is .

Yelp
Tries to make a reservation for my birthday. They responded to my email, days later I reached out to them and never responded, called a couple times and they were very rude over the phone but was never able to get a reservation.

Gracie P.

Yelp
Super cool secret room that you need a reservation for. If you don't have a rsvp then you can't get in.
google avatar

Derek T.

Yelp
If you want a nice prohibition era/piano bar experience then you best sneak on over to the Exhibition Room. For starters, the entrance is inside Roxanne's at the very back where you'll find an old telephone booth. You'll need a reservation to get in so be sure to set that up first. Now that you're in, you are in for a treat, or in this case, drink. It's a small space but it's cozy. I opted for a Penicillin drink which kept me warm and fuzzy inside, and not cause of a bacterial infection. We noticed other tables had charcuterie boards so we caved and got one ourselves, frankly, charcuterie boards don't really vary much by place so not much to say about them here either. But there you go, a speakeasy that serves nice drinks and small bites and is a nice escape from the 21st century. What more could you ask for as a middle to lower class citizen in a society where we can never become the 1%?

Lovely evening at the exhibit room. The bartender and the drinks both awesome. And loved the ambience! I read another review that said it was small. It's a speakeasy, not a dance hall. It's supposed to be dark and quaint. Remember? Alcohol is illegal on the outside. It's prohibition! :D My all-time favorite thing was the piano player/singer. Loved every song he played, but he had me at My Funny Valentine. Thought the ghost of Chet Baker was in the corner of the room. Wish I could remember his name! I'll definitely return for another romantic step-back-in-time.

Yelp
Super fun, cool looking, speakeasy bar with amazing drinks and friendly service! Plenty of parking.

Yelp
I love hidden bars especially those dark and bourbony types...even if that's not your spirit of choice you know the ambiance I'm talking about...far wood bay and low rich lighting, luv

Yelp
Enjoyed our visit to the Exhibition Room. The drinks were very well made, service was excellent and loved the ambiance. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
I was not impressed with this bar. The idea of needing a password for entry may be intriguing, but the process of receiving it via text message from Yelp only 20 minutes before my reservation time felt unnecessary and inconvenient. Their ridiculously strict dress code does not correspond with the ambiance of the place. There was nothing upscale about the venue. Even more disappointing was the fact that the staff did not even dress to the nines themselves. Their drink menu had only four items on it and they do not make anything off the menu. While the drinks were okay, there was nothing unique or amazing about them. The service was incredibly slow, with just one waitress and one bartender for the entire bar. The seats against the wall were very uncomfortable, with no cushion to support our bottoms. The restrooms were in dire need of attention. They ran out of toilet paper and were not properly cleaned throughout the night. This place did not live up to expectations and I would not recommend it.

Yelp
Cool little spot but not really impressive. We had a live singer which was cool but the drinks were alright and the seats were pretty uncomfortable. It's a cool concept since it's a bar within a bar but wouldn't go again.

Yelp
I thought it would be great to visit a modern-day "speak easy". After reading positive reviews, I visited their website and made reservations. The site lists a strict dress code and even designates an allotted time frame of when to arrive and to when to leave. I imagine this was necessary in the past, but as I found out when I got there, none of it was necessary. There was no one checking for reservations, nor checking for dress code compliance. In fact, my guest and I we're the only two adhering to the dress code which changed our feeling from dapper to ridiculous. The bartender was nice enough, but she was the lone server in a semi packed bar, so service to get a drink or our check was slow. The drinks were well made and expensive, as is expected in a novel setting such as this is supposed to be. Once you take out the novelty however, it stops feeling worth it. One drink and we we're out, over-dressed and disappointed.

Yelp
This is my favorite bar in Long Beach. Tucked away in the back behind an antique phone booth in Roxanne's. Press the button, say the password in the receiver and viola you are transported to a 1920's speakeasy. This place has a business casual dress code- ie no ripped jeans, sandals, etc. Service is phenomenal! Devon, the main bartender here can curate a drink for you if you don't find anything that tickles your fancy on the menu. I've also found if you can't book a reservation online- call them. I've always been able to secure a reservation this way. Immaculate, classy, grown people vibes. Fantastic drinks and smooth jazz being played in the background is pure perfection.

Yelp
It's inside a rowdy bar. That's okay. This drunk chick demanded I give her the password to the speakeasy. Yeah no. The phone door entrance set up is great. However the drinks are not good. They use the wrong spirit for drinks. The performers were too loud and there is no ability to hold a conversation. There is nothing special about the ambiance. The drinks are stiff but not balanced. I'm from San Diego where speakeasies are "extra," special and on point . Long Beach is too cool for school but really mediocre. That's Los Angeles in general.

Yelp
I LOVE speakeasies and The Exhibition Room did not disappoint. I made a reservation for 9:00 p.m. on a Friday night through Yelp - the reservation process is very easy and quick. Be mindful to cancel your reservation in advance (24 hours notice) if you aren't going to make it because they do charge you for no-shows ($20). It's understandable though because the speakeasy is pretty small on the inside and any no-shows would cost them money. I didn't receive a text message or Yelp message with the password in advance, but when I walked up to the door at Roxanne's and told them I was here for The Exhibition Room, the security guard told me the password. He escorted me to the phone booth near the pool table and we rang up the phone and told them our password. We were granted access and led into a beautiful dark speakeasy with live piano music. They had a table ready for us and as we looked over the menu, we realized we needed a minute. These weren't "traditional" cocktails but craft cocktails with unique ingredients. Our server told us that they make their cocktails around the liquor to really bring out its flavor profile. It was an eventful night and we ordered 6 different cocktails (can't remember their names), but every single cocktail was unique and delicious. It must be a good sign if I don't remember their names (they were that good and strong)! My whiskey friend was excited to see they had an extensive selection of whiskey and bourbon and we ordered a round of shots of Stagg Jr. Their only food item was a charcuterie board, which we shared. We realized we were getting hungry and inquired with our server about eating at Roxanne's and he was able to go put our name down for us and let us know when our table was ready. Talk about good service! When our table at Roxanne's was ready, he escorted us there where our night continued. My friends and I had such a great time and we will definitely be back soon! Be sure to check their dress code in advance and dress to impress! They don't accept groups larger than 6, so keep that in mind or make separate reservations.

Yelp
Amazing drinks and ambiance. It's a hidden spot inside of Roxanne's and has such a different feel than the outside establishment.

Yelp
Had a reservation for my Birthday, which they require a C.C. and you will be charged if you don't show up. When we arrived they informed us that the room was closed for a private event and even with proof of reservation, all they said was " oh well, sorry ". This place has no regard for paying customers, I would not patronize this place ever again. Be warned, they are rude and not considerate in the least.

Yelp
I find joy in discovering speakeasies in various places. The fact that you need a reservation and are let in through a phone booth set that joy to a new level. We made reservations for 7:30pm and it was fairly dead inside. If you want more of a crowd, I'd probably shoot for later. The vibe however filled the room, the service was great, the drinks were fun and delicious. They don't have food but it definitely makes for a exciting before or after dinner spot.

Yelp
Once upon a time, our gaggle of geese arrived to this speakeasy with our prohibition era plumage flouncing. What a delight to enter with the password behind the old phone booth. The exhibition room itself was far larger than I expected! What a delight! The cocktails were made by hand and the intricate taste pairings were unique. We drank our fill of smoked cocktails and turned our energies to the appetizers. Oh! The charcuterie was just right! The server was hilarious and in good form. He made our night even better! You will need to make reservations to enter this place. Dressed up or dressed down, this is a lovely and unique place to swill. The end.

Yelp
Really small and cute place. Performance later at night which was very fun. Please note the only food available is a charcuterie board. Wine is available upon request (but not on the menu and no variety). Gave this four stars because the service, while fantastic, was a bit slow. There were also complications with entering the speakeasy - the buzzer didn't work so we were waiting outside for a bit. If it happens to you just let someone at the bar know and they will get you in!

Yelp
My wife and I came in on a Thursday night. We loved it. It was relaxing, our server was attentive and we enjoyed our drinks. Delicious!

Yelp
From the fun and unique entrance to the super knowledgeable bar staff, our entire visit was wonderful. I highly recommend letting the bartenders make something based on your flavor profile over what's on the menu.

Yelp
My husband and I made reservations to attend this place. We read on other reviews that they send you the password 20 minutes before your reservation time. We arrived to the location 30 minutes before and waited for a text. It never arrived. When our reservation time came up I texted the number they provide on their website for changes and questions and they never replied. I think it's unfair that they make you put down a card number for a reservation fee in case of cancelation but what about when they don't ever text you about getting in? I got multiple emails about the reservation, I confirmed thru yelp like you're supposed to and I even received an email 6 hours prior to our time reminding us about it. Super disappointed in this place.

Yelp
Devon did an amazing job and allowed us to come in last minute without a reservation being that we were out of town. Enjoyed some amazing whiskey. Sours made extremely balanced to perfection even got to enjoy some live music... Ambience and clientele were extremely premium.

Yelp
Wife and I were able to make it here.. it's a nice speakeasy in Long Beach. Drinks were good. Service was a little slow. Bartender was pretty skilled with his crafty drinks.

Yelp
Everything is amazing! The vibe is so real and energetic. The food is so delicious. The customer service is beyond phenomenal.

Yelp
I booked a month in advance for this place. Then 30 minutes before my reservation, I get a text saying that they are closed temporarily 30 minutes before my reservation. I waited an entire month for this place and scheduled my weekend plans for this speakeasy and they were closed. Had they told me earlier they were closed or gave me even a 24 hour notice in advance, that would've been helpful because my friends wouldn't have to travel so far just for this place to find out it is closed. If they knew they were closed, it needs to be stated somewhere on this Yelp page and they need to close the reservation option instead of allowing people to reserve. This is unacceptable.

Yelp
The Exhibition Room is one of my top speakeasies to go in the LA area (Long Beach is a tad far from DTLA, but worth the visit!) From intimate ambience to great live music to great cocktails on the weekends, I've been going here before and after the pandemic. I only took a star off though because it's virtually impossible to get in contact with them via phone if we were to arrive a bit late, and the server/manager there that got us in was quite rude and didn't take my word that we've been waiting outside of the telephone pole for over 10 minutes and he got egotistical about it.

Rebecca L.

Yelp
The host of the exhibition room delayed the 7:30 reservation until 8:00 and did not show up, my party left at 8:30. On the bright side, we went to the Wicked Wolf on Pacific Avenue, the bartender made exceptional drinks, will return there again!!

Yelp
What an amazing experience! I'm sad it took me so long to find this place! Was able to secrete Friday evening reservations (made them two days prior). Something happened and I didn't end up getting the password unfortunately but we figured it out when we got there and I was still able to immerse into the experience. It's really awesome you get a password and then dial the button on the phone and then you say the password. We were then greeted at the door and taken inside. It's very dark and intimate, piano player in the back. Really great date spot and drinks on point! Definitely recommend it!

Yelp
So this was supposed to be a speakeasy, I never received the code they were supposed to text me, it's inside of a really cool bar but I have to say I was disappointed with how small it was and they had no music really. The drinks were ok but expensive, only 1 waitress and bartender, no prices on the drink menu. The so-called ambience was like being inside of a garage that someone turned into a bar, definitely not impressed and will not return but I agave them 2 stars cause the staff was nice.
