"There’s a rustic charm to this beautifully restored Victorian inn, where they make excellent use of the surrounding estate. The dishes are powered by organic produce from their own farms, which is then turned into a mixture of traditional and modern pub food. Generous and flavourful dishes do these local ingredients proud. A fire-lit lounge and 11 pleasant, relaxing bedrooms complete the package." - Michelin Inspector

We nipped in here about a year ago for a quick pint after a walk and the inside is beautifully designed and the menu looked great. We said that we must return for a meal. It took us a year to do so but came for lunch on Monday and it did not disappoint. Great selection of drinks and real ales at the bar. The food was phenomenal. Wines delicious and great service. But above all the staff were all absolutely lovely. Would definitely recommend

Despite booking for dinner on the day, the team kindly accommodated us. All the service staff were friendly and helpful. Both starters are good. We tried a few mains: the fish and risotto is good, turkey is full of flavour albeit a bit firm and the ribeye is some of the best I’ve tried in the country - must try! Good portion sizes and fairly priced.

We had a great weekend away with our dogs. The service and food was superb - all the staff are friendly and helpful. There is a cosy sitting room with log fire, or you can have drinks by the fire. The bedroom was large with good furnishings and a really comfortable superking bed. There is a good choice of food on offer and breakfast is meant for walkers - early and hearty. This hotel far exceeded our expectations and was amazing value.

From the moment we were greeted by Will, to the final cheery goodbye, the whole evening was a brilliant experience. |They were very accommodating when we called to say we'd be delayed due to poor road conditions.|Friendly, appropriately attentive service all evening.||Knowledgeable about the menu if we wanted some extra information.|There was a good selection of alcoholic and soft drinks.|My son ordered the local Tarka four lager- delicious.||The menu was pleasantly inventive, with local ingredients.|They maintain a green Michelin star for sustainable gastronomy by only sourcing their food from a twelve mile radius, including their own Exmoor Forest organic farm.|For starter, I had a fantastic baked Cornish brie with pickled cherries, honey and rosemary, served with sourdough. My son had the Exmoor beef croquettes with a smoky wood sauce. The filling was pulled beef of exceptional quality.||For mains, I had the roast chicken leg with pumpkin purée, honey braised apricots, baby onions, and Brussels sprouts. Served with an amazing spiced chicken gravy.|The skin was crispy and there was plenty of melt in the mouth meat. Flavour was fabulous.||My son chose the pheasant schnitzel, topped with a lemon, garlic and cream sauce with capers (a traditional accompaniment). It also came with just the right amount( a generous handful) of| skin-on chunky chips.|Both his starter and main came with tasty salad leaves. |He also had seasonal greens as a side, cooked perfectly.||We just had to try the desserts, a difficult choice as they all looked amazing. |I chose a blackberry fool with hazelnut biscuits, slightly tart, just how it should be, beautifully presented.||My son chose the exquisite chocolate marquise, topped with the most delicious homemade milk ice cream and meringue.|It contained espresso, rum and ganache. ||The ambience, enhanced by a log fire and slightly muted lighting contributed to our enjoyment. |We will definitely be returning.

A wonderfully warm and welcoming hotel, bar and restaurant. We were welcomed like family and encouraged to enjoy the fire in the sitting room before being called to our table to enjoy our beautiful (field to fork) food. If you haven't booked you are missing out.

Called up in advance asking for a table and was told they are busy which was fine I asked about visiting with he bar area for some food and was told it would be based on first come first serve which was absolutely fine. At no point was told we wasn’t able to have any food in the bar. All we wanted was a few starters/sharers nothing major not a 4 course meal. Bar maid disappears out the back to speak to whoever which I assume was the foreign lady on the phone and refused to serve us anything. The bar was empty and the pub wasn’t even that busy. Don’t waste your time visiting service is poor.

Wow! What a fantastic Inn. Spotlessly clean, comfortable and with very welcoming staff. All the food is locally sourced and cooked to perfection.|In recent year the Inn has undergone a complete restoration. It now providing excellent accommodation, traditional yet with a modern slant. Our room was well presented with large comfortable bed and on suite facilities. On the ground floor you have a lounge, spacious dining room and bar area. All very well furnished and decorated with lots to grab your interest.|Can’t wait to pay a return visit with the chance to take in the fantastic countryside and walks.

Fantastic spot for campers! Super posh and clean FREE shower, if you stay for dinner in the restaurant. The food was superb, and as the staff was so friendly, I booked breakfast, too. Did not regret as the homemade granola is a treat. British countryside hospitality at its best. Be sure to do the loop walk which begins here, it is one of my all time favorite walks.
