The biggest dining surprises of 2019 in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

New Destination Supperclub Announces Opening Date | Eater Twin Cities

"Opening June 25 inside Artisan Plaza's new food hall just off Highway 52, Falls Landing is a road‑trip–worthy supperclub from chef JD Fratzke. I've seen tempting dishes posted on Instagram — pasta with lobster, potato puffs with broccoli under a tantalizing cheese sauce, and walleye with wild rice — and Fratzke's reputation for using local ingredients and drawing on his Southern Minnesota roots suggests a menu grounded in nearby farms. The restaurant is the final component of an already open casual restaurant, deli, and market, and owner Dave Olson envisioned the supperclub as a place that brings back the glamor of driving down a rural road for a hearty meal and a cold drink." - Joy Summers

Falls Landing is a wonderful restaurant. I sat the bar and met some lovely local ladies. The owner, Mike, suggested the trout which was delicious accompanied by a potato cake which I loved. A really nice atmosphere and even a wall with camp memorabilia from the area.

Google
Easily made reservations by calling the restaurant. Nice atmosphere and server Mandy was terrific. I’m vegetarian and enjoyed the pasta in a creamy white sauce with veggies and a very crisp side salad with delicious blue cheese dressing.

We visited Brevard for the White Squirrel Festival and came across this small, charming restaurant. The menu looked good, so gave it a try later that evening. We had made reservations for two ahead of time and were seated promptly. We both started with a bowl of New England clam chowder. It was good , but barely warm. I had the Fresh North Carolina Trout, sautéed and served with lemon herb butter, mashed potatoes and asparagus. I really enjoyed it. My husband chose the Filet Mignon with borderlaise sauce for his entree which was cooked to perfection. Carrot cake and chocolate lava cake with ice cream completed our meal. Our waitress, Shannon was very sweet and a great server.

Google
What a wonderful dining experience! Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable. My salmon was cooked tender and moist. The pork chop was tender and moist, served with mushrooms and onions. I would highly recommend The Falls Landing.

Google
Food not hot, and not good. Service was not bad, but the both room was in bad shape and unacceptably dirty. My sandwich was really just not tasty at all. Not sure what the attraction is here, other than being downtown in a tourist area.

Google
We have eaten at The Falls Landing on prior visits. Always great food and service. On this visit for lunch the Rainbow Trout Lunch Special was terrfic. The trout was very good with rice and fresh green beans. Our waitress was very good, too. Note when checking hours of operation, they are closed mid-afternoon and reopen for dinner. We thought it was closed one afternoon and it was because Googlemaps showed closed yet it re-opened at 5:00PM. They have a small bar inside and nice booth and table seating.

Google
Wife and I had dinner here last night. Initial impression the dining area was small but "intimate". Christine was wonderful. Hot Wingz were PERFECT and DELICIOUS. My main course was the linguini with blackened chicken. PERFECT and DELICIOUS. My Wife tried the Fish n Chips. She wasn't overly impressed. Mentioned not much flavor and the "McDonald's" fries were barely room temp, but tasted fine. An honest review. We will DEFINITELY BE BACK When in Brevard. Prices $$$

Google
Great selection of salads, sandwiches, and entrees. The Salmon BLT is delicious and it comes with a generous portion of fries on the side. Service is quick and friendly

Yelp
Our friends highly recommended this place for the excellent burgers. So that's what we ordered! Husband had the bacon cheddar cheeseburger with fries. I had the cheddar cheeseburger with slaw. The burgers were good and juicy. They were hot and cooked just as ordered. Husband liked his fries and the slaw was good - not dry and not sweet. For dessert we ordered the Kentucky Derby Bourbon pecan pie with whipped cream and ice cream. It was sweet, and we could taste the bourbon. Service was excellent. The restaurant was lovely inside and out. Next time we'll request the table in the window for the view of the street.

Yelp
A great place for lunch in downtown Brevard. The trout is delicious. A nice homey setting.

Yelp
We were extremely hopeful when we went to this cute cafe. Experience/food/service were disappointing, however. Ordered small salad and crab cakes. Both came out at same time. Small salad ($7.25) was more on miniature side, tomatoes were complete mush (a personal thing, but turns my stomach)., Had to send crab cakes (appetizer, $16) back because they were barely warm. Over-priced and under-delivered for sure. Server was all business and indifferent. I think there are much better options in the area; would not recommend.

Yelp
Food, Service, Ambiance. Stellar date night with my hubby. Will definitely come back
google avatar

Yelp
We shared the conch fritters. Which we consider a poor taste and nearly $16 for four. We shared the lamb chops and a Haddock. Both good. Carrot cake also good. Overall an okay dinner. Good service in a Bistro atmosphere. I suggest others restaurants in this area all within easy walking.

Yelp
We were there with another couple on a Thursday night. Felt very rushed by the waitress. Had to tell her 3 times that we hadn't looked at the menu yet as we had only been sitting down for less then 10 minutes! Food was sub-par. Lamb chops were over cooked, potatoes were cold and the green beans tasted as though they had been cooked days earlier then microwaved. All in all, not a good experience!

Yelp
This was my favorite memory of my visit to see my sister. My sis and I happened to be in town earlier and checked out the menu. I've been wanting NC trout, so we made a reservation for three. Turns out the brother in law needed to head to the bike shop steps away before they closed. We popped in here after and asked if we could be seated an hour earlier. We skipped the planned movie because it was almost three hours long and would be late for our planned reservation. They graciously seated us at the table that had our reservation marker on it. We started with cocktails. The lemon drop was on their specials list and my sister asked for a martini to be made with Chambord. Her husband had an Old Fashioned. We all loved our drinks. I can't comment on my brother in law's rib eye, but he enjoyed it very much. I was so excited to have the North Carolina trout. My sis had the same. It was sautéed perfectly, served with a lemon herb butter, and was the best meal I had during my stay. We ended the night with a slice of Kentucky Bourbon pie. This is definitely somewhere the two of them will be back to as they are just getting to know what their new mountain hometown has to offer.

Yelp
Great Service, very warm and welcoming staff. We sat by the window which was very nice. We enjoyed our bowls of soup, Manhattan clam Chowder and Chicken tortilla soup. Fried oysters were delicious too. Great restaurant for lunch!!! Right on Main Street next to so many wonderful shops. I highly recommend this restaurant. Very nice cozy bar and interior.

Rachel F.

Yelp
Visited The Falls Landing for a birthday dinner....food was excellent, service was great! Our party of three had the trout, haddock, and lamb, and all three were delicious. The Derby Pie was amazing. Servers were working hard and yet were still pleasant and attentive. Prices are fair. We will definitely return!

Gerald G.

Yelp
Went here with house guests and the place was not that inviting. The hostess was lukewarm and the waitress rushed and worse. Maybe just a off night, but the mgmt. should pay attention to this. Our food was okay, but not over the top. To bad for my guests.

Yelp
Brevard turns out to be a pretty nice place to stay awhile if you are a foodie. I ate everywhere there during my 3 week stay, and this was my favorite place, which is why I came here twice. I love trout and the fresh NC trout here is so outstanding, I ordered it on both my visits. It falls off the fork, is perfectly seared, and is a generous portion. The accompanying mashed potatoes were buttery and included tasty bits of skin, the real deal. (I apologize I could not get a better photo as the lighting was dim). My friend said her filet was outstanding too. I also ordered the rocket salad as a starter, which is a very nice salad with arugula, blue cheese, toasted almond slivers, and grape tomatoes. The the bourbon molasses vinigerette is made of magic. Wine by the glass is a generous pour. Service was outstanding both times. Both times they were short-staffed and the place was busy, but "Kutch" was amazing at making me feel welcome, providing great recommendations, and checking in on me. It's not a huge place and reservations are strongly recommended, although when I arrived the first time I was immediately greeted warmly (by I think the manager) and she found a table for me, depite the fact that I was a solo diner, and brought me reshly baked bread and olive oil when she noticed the food was slower coming out of the kitchen (as they were short-staffed).

Yelp
Always a great place for seafood in Brevard! It's one of my favorite spots! Fish and chips, trout, everything I've gotten there has been fantastic!
google avatar

Tom R.

Yelp
A mountain jewel! Well worth a trip just to eat here. I've driven from Greenville several times to eat here. The staff is top notch and very accommodating if you have special needs. Exceptionally nice too! All the menu items are very good. They have specials at night which are super delicious. But if you are planning to go at night, you had better make reservations at least a day out. Seriously! They are very busy, and for good reason! Look for the original, antique sign painting on a wall. And look for the granite mountains. It's a cozy place with great atmosphere!

Yelp
Clean bathroom, strong cocktails, on-point service, and superb desserts. I would come back again for just these things. Nothing complex in our cocktail, but it was perfectly strong and refreshing. My husband loved the chicken linguine and highly recommends the dish. Our friend enjoyed his salmon. Both said the crab cakes were primarily meat, not bread, but were small. I was disappointed with the rack of lamb with brown sauce (what was this?), two asparagus (perfectly cooked), and mashed potatoes (a hearty portion, but it's just potatoes). The dish fell flat compared to what my husband and friend both received. The Kentucky Derby Pie w/ Vanilla Ice Cream is AMAZING. Who doesn't love Walnuts, butter, sugar, bourbon, and chocolate chips in a pie with ice cream? I had just enough vanilla ice cream to go with that last scoop of pie - so perfect for the moment. Strong coffee, always a perk. We arrived and left at first sitting for dinner mid-week. I had a reservation and I recommend you arrange one for your table.

Terry L.

Yelp
The server was very attentive and friendly; the food was well prepared and served timely. It was a very nice evening.

Yelp
We had a lovely meal at Falls Landing. My pork ribeye was amazing. The service was great. Make reservations or you might be out of luck.

Buddy G.

Yelp
We were a party of four that called to make a reservation on a Thursday night after hearing the restaurants and shops were having a hard time after Helene. We were told they only had a 5pm or 7:45pm available. We took the 5pm. Unfortunately, the hostess and server could not be less interested in creating a warm, inviting environment for us. As you can probably already guess where I am going with this, the dining room remained empty throughout our entire meal. We asked about dessert. The hostess told us they had another table coming in at 6:30pm for our table and pointed to a tacky grease pencil board on the table, as if it was written in stone. The food was okay, but pricey. I guess the point of my review is that I made a reservation for a friend's birthday and was not told there was an hour and a half time limit...they should go ahead and put a timer on the the table.

Yelp
IMHO This is the only consistently good restaurant in Brevard. Better make a res, as it is also very popular!

Glove G.

Yelp
Best food I have ever eaten! Fish is great. Service is wonderful. Don't miss it. You will regret it.
google avatar

Megan E.

Yelp
My son and I ate here back in July. It was busy but we didn't have to wait long for a table. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was fantastic. My son really loved the dessert. Can't wait to come back next time we are in the area.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
The atmosphere and service are really nice and relaxing. The food was alright, but definitely overpriced for what it was.
google avatar

Robin C.

Yelp
I was worried at first because we had to wait 5 minutes for the restaurant to open, and when it opened, the receptionist just unlocked the door and raced back to her post. It would have been nice if she had unlocked the door and said something nice, like "Welcome to Falls Landing." That said, everything from our waitress to our appetizer (Sautéed Crab Claws in Parmesan Cream with Grilled Sourdough Bread), to our entree, (Seared Kingfish Arugala and Red Onion Relish with Wild Rice) was excellent! Can't wait to go back!!!
google avatar

Jeremy L.

Yelp
Although I no longer live in western NC, this is one of the few restaurants that remain must stops for me. The food is fresh and immaculately prepared. The chefs recognize how to complement the fish with their sauces, rather than overwhelm it. The homemade pesto with my dish was interesting, and truly brought out the most from the entree. I'm overjoyed that this restaurant has succeeded for so many years, and I'll continue to visit every time I'm in the area.

John T.

Yelp
We stopped by Falls Landing not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised! We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our meal from our server to the food. It was all excellent and I left very happy and satisfied. Will definitely be back soon.

Rachel M.

Yelp
Great owners! We cannot say enough about how kind, accommodating and warm the owners, and staff are, at Falls Landing. The ambiance is intimate and inviting and the thoughtful care taken here creates a joy filled experience.

April N.

Yelp
We had a WONDERFUL meal at The Falls Landing. Halibut...fried oysters...trout...it was SO YUMMY! We were the last couple in the restaurant but no one made us feel the least bit rushed. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. We can't wait to go back!

Barbra D.

Yelp
Our visit to The Falls Landing was a disappointment. We were greeted by a hostess who was hostile and demeaning, which set a tense the tone for the evening. The dining room felt like an elevated coffee shop, and when I requested a table that wasn't near the door as it was cold outside, we were told we could go somewhere else. We found the food underwhelming and overpriced.

Suzanne B.

Yelp
Always great food, service is great too. And the setting is simple but elegant. The rainbow trout is a must have!
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
Great option in town. I feel like it's always hard to travel to smaller towns and review restaurants being from atlanta where we have so many amazing spots but this place was solid none the less. Service was great and super accommodating and friendly. I had a steak and it was great and cooked to my liking. The crab cake app was amazing while the trout app wasn't my favorite.
google avatar

Sarah Anne S.

Yelp
A Brevard gem! It's a must visit when we're in town. The trout is incredible, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the service is top notch. Highly recommend!

Novella C.

Yelp
There is no better quality restaurant around. The meals are consistently great and the cost is comparable to other restaurants locally. The cocktails are always strong and delicious. We really appreciate the owners. They are wonderful people. We live here year round.

John K.

Yelp
Very nice place. We have been dining there for over 25 years. Mike the owner tends bar some nights; he and the staff are local, very friendly and courteous. Entrees have always been good and we appreciate that portion size is not over the top.

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
We had a rez & were seated promptly. My husband ordered a cup of the cream of asparagus soup, which was tasteless. We split the entree of sautéed Haddock in a crispy crust. It had a piccata sauce. It was quite good, but a little overdone. We are seafood lovers from FL, so it's often hard to find fish cooked to perfection in more inland locations. I had a $12 glass of Cabernet that was quite good. Our server was very efficient, but hardly smiled, so I kind of felt she just wasn't happy to be there. We split the pecan pie ala mode, but it was nearly drowned in chocolate syrup. Why? Pecan pie is already very sweet, but this syrup was overkill. The atmosphere is nice & the place filled up quickly around 6pm. We will definitely try this place again.

Anita C.

Yelp
Delicious meal! Mountain trout did not disappoint. We enjoyed everything and had a really nice evening. Apparently, most people make reservations, so we will do that next time.

Jeannie S.

Yelp
Always great. One of oldest restaurants in Brevard, still great! Love for light lunch or nice dinner with friends.
google avatar

Ashley W.

Yelp
Mike, J.J. and the team at Falls Landing are practicing safety and cleanliness first. But their entrees and specials are as creative and delectable as ever! Thank you for the beautiful evening. The honor and respect you have shown both locals and guest will be evidenced in your future success!

Ariel A.

Yelp
We came here for my birthday dinner. We were seated within a few minutes as we had a reservation. Highly recommend calling ahead. This was a small yet classy establishment. An older crowd in the restaurant. Very nice and quiet with a nice ambiance with candles on each table. The menu was delicious yet simple ingredients which was exactly what we were looking for. This did not mean it was lacking in taste. I had the linguini with blackened salmon. Next time I would order it with half the sauce as it was too much for me. My husband had the NC trout. Coming from NH this was a nice treat and he really liked it. Our service was great and I was even treated to a free birthday dessert of the most delicious berry pie. Would definitely return for dinner!
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
Super friendly and accommodating staff. The food was great and so was dessert. Highly recommend the homemade bourbon pecan pie.
google avatar

Dolores H.

Yelp
Brittany our hostess was warm , sweet and knowledgeable of the menu. Her personality provided a friendly environment as she cheerfully shared the chef's cuisines for the night. She is a gem and I would definitely revisit this restaurant when I return to this town. The chef gets a thumbs up for his pairing of flavors on his specials menu.

Vicki H.

Yelp
If you are visiting Brevard don't miss Falls Landing. Great daily fish and seafood specials as well as beef and pork specials. A menu that is consistently outstanding. We eat there every Thursday at the bar. Say hello to the owners, Mike and Kim!
google avatar

Charlie A.

Yelp
DO NOT GO!!!! They are rude and do not stand by their posted hours. We were turned away 45 minutes prior to their closing time for lunch. Receptionist & waitress explained they have different hours. If that is the case it needs to be posted accordingly. They do not honor their posted operating hours. Do your self a favor. Go somewhere else In Brevard!! !!!

Vickie B.

Yelp
Home of food that tastes like your grandmother's food if she can not cook!! If you are under 50 you will hate it--if over 50 it will taste like that stuff your grand used to cook every Sunday and you dreaded it. This is not a foodie place and let's just say not a food place either. Would do better with a fish sandwich from a fast food place. It would include better service, cost less and no doubt taste better.
google avatar

M D.

Yelp
We had an outstanding dinner here on 8/4/21 for a friend's birthday. Brittany provided fantastic service with a smile. The special with mushroom ravioli and shrimp was delicious and had us licking the plate to finish all the sauce!! We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Bev H.

Yelp
Dinner on a Tuesday evening. Surprised that all booths and tables in the bar were reserved at 5pm. Very good service offered by Brittany! Nice selection of beer on tap. Inconsistent mix on 2 old-fashions that were ordered. One was perfect and the 2nd was tart and not really drinkable. We had daily specials: an order of duck and an order of trout. Both dishes were well prepared. Evening vegetables were a mix of brocolli, sliced carrot and summer squash. Squash was delicious but broccoli was not fully cooked. Once again, our server, Brittany, was excellent.
google avatar

Ryan E.

Yelp
I haven't been here in probably over 10 years and I have no clue why. The service was great and was very nice. I ordered the salmon with fingerling potatoes and it was exceptional. The salmon was seasoned and cooked well and the fingerling potatoes were a nice side dish. My wife and her friend both got one of the specials and that was also very good. If you want a nice seafood meal try The Falls Landing.

Kay B.

Yelp
We spent the evening of our 50th anniversary here. The dinner was delicious and the staff was attentive.
google avatar

Langston D.

Yelp
This is our choice for upscale dining in the area. Lunch and supper never disappoint. Try the salad with fried oysters for lunch or the local trout for supper. Nice wine selection. Friendly and accommodating staff.
google avatar

Yelp
TOP NOTCH SERVICE! We celebrated my parents 50th wedding anniversary at The Falls Landing in early September 2018, and they went over and beyond to make it as special, as if it, were someone in their own family. Living 2 1/2 hours away, I worked with JJ and the owner, Mike, over the phone weeks in advance. They took what I envisioned and made it come to life. Everything from custom menus, when I decided to go to a set menu, to setting up the flowers, cake, and signage I dropped off earlier in the day. The food and wine selections they suggested were excellent and made everyone happy without costing a fortune. We weren't rushed, they attended to our every need, and made it beyond the perfect celebration I had hoped for. For your next special event, I highly suggest Mike and his staff. The setting is lovely as are the people and food. Thanks and we will be seeing you again! Even if it's just for a casual drink or bite to eat when in downtown Brevard! CHEERS!

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
Meh- this place needs a menu revamp, or a chef that can execute the current menu. Service was mostly miserable. We tried the risotto special, it was undercooked, and 100% flavorless with a dishwater after taste. Clam chowder- no flavor, but not terrible. Maybe whoever made it didn't take the time to taste it. Husband had the trout w/ mash potatoes. Trout was okay- slightly over done, mashed potatoes were overly salted. Caesar salad was great! They replaced my risotto with the crab cake appetizer and those weren't too bad either.
