How Montreal’s Restaurant Scene is Responding to Quebec Lifting the Mask Mandate on April 15 | Eater Montreal

"I heard from John Gumbley, president of Jegantic, that the change is welcome and that keeping the mandate longer only drags on and causes stress; he says policing clients in a nightlife venue is essentially impossible and imagines the difficulty of constantly reminding 500 people to put their masks back on after a drink." - JP Karwacki

‘Thaiwaiian’ Restaurant the Farsides Brings Tiki Drinks to Old Montreal | Eater Montreal

"A new Thai–Hawaiian restaurant and bar opened in Old Montreal today called the Farsides, from John Edward Gumbley and his hospitality group Jegantic (they also own supper club Bord’elle). It bills itself as “Thaiwaiian” — a mix of Thai and Hawaiʻi cuisines — with chef Athiraj Phrasavath (of Thip Thip) behind a menu that includes a fancied-up Drunken Noodles with yellow curry sauce, lobster and cognac, a “Big Poppa Pineapple Boat” of garlicky Hawaiʻian North Shore–style shrimp in a pineapple boat with a sweet-yet-fiery Thai sauce, and staples like pad thai, papaya salad, poke bowl and malasadas; in short, expect playful dishes well geared toward sharing. The tropical bar program, put together by Lawrence Picard, offers tiki classics with twists — for example a mai tai with benedictine, cashew orgeat, lime and dragonfruit, and the “Shook One” with papaya, passionfruit, aloe, watermelon and tonka bean syrup. Despite the tiki approach, the space avoids standard kitsch in favor of a ’90s hip‑hop “’90s Brooklyn” vibe with exposed brick, graffiti and a small basketball court. The Farsides is open at 690 Notre‑Dame West from 4:30 p.m. to late Wednesday and Thursday and 6 p.m. to late Friday and Saturday (kitchen closes at midnight every night)." - Tim Forster

We went to The Farsides to celebrate a Secret Santa with my coworkers, and we honestly had a great time. The place is beautiful, the food was delicious, and even though we were a group of 12, everything came out really fast. Service was efficient and friendly. The music was great and added to the fun atmosphere. We went early, around 6 PM, so the restaurant wasn’t busy at all, and we were able to take advantage of their 5–7 PM special menu, which was a nice bonus. I’m sharing some photos of the dishes my friends and I ordered — all of them were amazing, and I would definitely have them again: • Mango salad • French fries • Chicken wings • Steak • Spring rolls Overall, an excellent experience. I would absolutely go back!

My friends and I were so excited to celebrate a birthday at The Brunch Club's first ABBA Themed Boozy Brunch at The Farsides in Montréal. The restaurant’s design and atmosphere are absolutely beautiful—credit where it's due, the space is fantastic and sets the scene perfectly! However, save yourselves the $85+ per person (plus tax!) because the experience was a complete disaster. The Service S.O.S. • Rude Welcome: We were first met by a staff member who was quite rude when checking our booking barcode. Not the warm welcome you want for a pricey event. • The Meal Mix-Up Mayhem: We had pre-selected our meals well ahead of time, as requested. We were told our food would be "coming out any minute." Instead, our order was clearly mixed up (which was admitted), resulting in a 30-minute delay for the first plate to arrive. • A Lone Meal: After that 30-minute wait, only one of the three meals came out. My friend and I had to wait even longer. • STONE COLD FOOD: The final straw was my friend's Pad Thai arriving stone cold! She rightly sent it back. By the time her replacement meal came out, my other friend had long finished her plate. The remaining two meals were served a staggering 20 minutes after the first person had finished eating. We were celebrating, not having separate meals! • Birthday Fail: I'd politely asked a member of the waitstaff about bringing out a cake for my friend's birthday celebration but it never appeared…2 hours later. I had also messaged the events organizers ahead of time. The Farsides has a gorgeous space, and The Brunch Club is a fun concept, but the execution and service for this event were a total disaster. The disorganized kitchen and frankly cold food/service completely ruined what should have been a great birthday brunch!

I recently went here for my birthday and, honestly, I regret it a lot. I was so excited because it’s a “throwback super club,” but I didn’t even stay long enough for it to actually turn into a club. The inside is very aesthetic and well-decorated (cute and thoughtfully done ) but the crowd was much older than us (we’re all 20), so the vibe just wasn’t really our scene. Now, let’s talk about the most important part and the reason I’m rating this place a 2/5: the Food Funky Mojito – 2.9/5 Pretty mid. Nothing terrible, but nothing special either. Definitely below-average compared to mojitos I’ve had before. The chili didn’t add much flavor, just a tiny bit of spice. Could’ve been much better. ASAP Strawberry – 4/5 I liked this one! You could taste a little alcohol, but not too much. Honestly, it reminded me of a Starbucks strawberry açaí lemonade. LL Cool Juice – 4.85/5 Easily the best one. It was oddly thick, which weirded me out at first, but it was super tasty. Overall, the drinks were decent probably the best thing I had all night. Now for the worst part: the food. I have never been so disappointed in my life. Pad Thai – 3/5 This didn’t really taste like pad thai. More like teriyaki. Thai Express does it 15x better. While it was edible, the chicken was overcooked with a weird taste. Average at best. Steak – 1/5 This was the real downfall of my night. I thought the $29 steak deal was amazing and was so excited to have my favorite meal for my birthday. I ordered medium rare I know what medium rare looks like but what they brought me was basically still mooing. Completely raw in the middle. I sent it back (staff were nice about it), and when it came back it was definitely better, the sauce on top was extremely bitter so much so that I had to chug my drink to get rid of the taste, and I could still taste it afterward. I forced down maybe 2–3 bites before giving up. Horrible. I don’t like arugula, so I didn’t touch the salad. The fries were good and well seasoned, but they mistakenly put a piece of bacon on them and I strictly cannot eat pork. I understand mistakes happen, but with so many people and religious groups who don’t eat pork, that’s a pretty big oversight and one that made me quite unhappy especially since i don't eat it for religious reasons. They did compensate my meal, which I appreciate, and our waitress (wish I remembered her name) was super kind and attentive. Honestly, she made the service the only redeeming part of the evening. But overall? They ruined my 20th birthday dinner a night I won’t forget, but for all the wrong reasons. Sad and disappointed. I won’t be coming back.

I can say that this is one of the hidden gems in Montreal if you want to turn up. Set in the downtown core, it was the "Back In The Day" club night so my group and I decided to visit after a friend's recommendation. It functions as a restaurant during the day but in the evening (we went on a Saturday) it turns into a club. The drinks are strong and the decor on the walls are a dope mix of pop culture and Hip Hop. The dancefloor was packed and was quite hot but fortunately there is a balcony area upstairs to vibe and chill. Will pay another visit the next time I'm in the city! Recommending this place for anyone who wants a good night out.

Google
I visited this restaurant yesterday and was really disappointed with my experience. I ordered a well done steak, but it came out medium rare (as shown in the photo). I sent it back, only for it to come out undercooked again , twice. On the third attempt, it was somehow even worse. At this point I just gave up on even trying to ask for them to fix it again and was stuck eating something I didn't request, nor like. I honestly don’t understand how the kitchen could get a simple request wrong three times. To be fair, our server was wonderful, she was attentive, polite, and did her best to fix the issue. The poor rating is entirely for the kitchen. It’s frustrating when something as basic as cooking a steak to the requested desire becomes such an issue. Definitely expected better especially considering I've been here a handful of times and had no issues.

The vibe and the deco of the place is really cool. Seems like it's a great place to be on Friday or Saturday nights. The food for me was just okay, I know it's fusion but very little Thai taste and too bland for me. We tried a bunch of dishes, the seabass was the tastiest and the rest a bit disappointing.

Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the Hype… My husband and I visited this place after seeing it listed as a must-do in Montreal, and honestly, we’re still trying to figure out why. While the music was great, everything else—especially the service—was a complete letdown. There was only one overwhelmed lady hosting and taking orders. We ordered a drink and waited 20 minutes. When she finally came back, she was surprised we hadn’t received it yet—and then took another 8 minutes to bring it over. We had tried to order an appetizer with our drink, but they were out of what we asked for, so we settled for chicken wings. After finally getting our drink, we waited another 15 minutes, and the wings never came. My husband, who is usually very patient, was baffled. I had had enough and was ready to go. When he approached the host, she dismissed him and sent him to another staff member to pay. That young lady gave us attitude for wanting to leave and even asked, “Wait, no tip? Why?” Bold, considering we never even got our food. Meanwhile, we saw another customer being told they wouldn’t be comped for a meal they didn’t like—just offered a free drink instead. A guy working there was also using napkins to prop up a wobbly table. It all felt very amateur. Can’t say anything about the food because we never got any. The drink? A 4/10 at best. Customer service? Nonexistent. Safe to say we won’t be back—and I’d never recommend this place to anyone. I wouldn’t want to be responsible for setting someone up for such a disappointing experience.

Yelp
Fun, hip, cool spot with delicious food & cocktails! Thai - Hawaiian fushion which was a great combo of flavors, spices, veggies, meats, etc. The venue is visually very trendy with street graffiti art and anime, has high ceilings, cool furniture, & chill vibes. The waitress was great and personable.

Yelp
Interesting concept and really cool interior design. The bathroom walls are quite unique so def check those out. However, we found the food a little too salty for our taste. Additionally there was quite a bit of miscommunication with the servers which caused our group extra time to get our food unfortunately.

Yelp
We very much enjoyed our first visit at the Hawaiian Island Sunday brunch at @thefarsides. We were enamoured with the rich cultural blend and the elevated taste of our meal. Our food was delicious and as colorful as the detailed hip hop themed decor. The little details remeniscent of mid to late 90s pop culture entertained us greatly - especially the fun souvenirs lodged in the bar countertop (loved the flip phone, pager, game boy pocket and more!). The cocktails were also exquisite and to top it all off we were pleasantly surprised by the live dance show which we thought was a nice touch.

Yelp
Service was a bit slow, but I was part of a huge group, so that was fairly understandable. The cocktail menu was quite large and I got 2 tiki drinks that were quite tasty (and large). I also got the scallop crudo appetizer and it was pretty large with quite a lot of scallops in a tangy and spicy dressing.

Yelp
We were looking forward to visiting this place, but it was not at all what we expected. The food was mediocre at best, they had one vegetarian option only and it was one of the worse vegetarian dishes I've ever had. The drinks were super sweet and not balanced at all. The only reason it got a 3 instead of a 1 is because of the music they were playing and the fun vibe. Conclusion: Worth going there for drinks only. Preferably something that they are not mixing like wine or beer.

Yelp
Very decent. Loved decor and the hip hop theme. Be sure to check out the resin bar with all the fun things trapped inside. Our waitress was friendly and helpful as was the host who seated us. We got a bottle of wine so I can speak for the drinks, but the food was just okay. Everything came out hot and fresh but every dish was majorly over salted. This would be a fun place to come back to with a larger group for drinks and maybe apps.

Yelp
Had a friends birthday there last night and let me just say, never in my life have I seen such unprofessionalism!! When my bf and I got to the door, there were two strangers and the bouncer. The strangers were ripping off people or at least trying to, asking for money to get in and how the restaurant was full. The bouncer did nothing at all but just laugh until these strangers left. I don't know about you but a bouncer is supposed to get rid of people like that instead of encouraging them... Then when we got into the restaurant, to our table with our group of friends, the waitress was unbelievably disrespectful. She had no idea what was going on, kept saying she was confused and got very very annoyed. She kept yelling at each and everyone of the guests, rolling her eyes and much more. Let me just tell you as someone who's worked in the restaurant/clientele industry, if you're having a bad day do not take it out on your clients. You should always be working with a smile on your face. Very disrespectful and very disappointed! The food, it took forever to get our food and honestly I've tasted better. Seriously overpriced food for something that looks like it came out of a box... Also some of the guests didn't even finish the food on their plates and yet the waitress still managed to grab it away from them without asking if they were finished or not... I don't know about you but you're supposed to ask your client if they're done with their food or not. Last but not least, when we had to pay the waitress was just throwing receipts around like it was confetti. She kept staring at each and everyone of the guests while they were paying, as if she wanted to see what they were going to put as tip and she kept rolling her eyes at them and nodding no. Again very disrespectful and very unprofessional! I'm not one to put bad reviews on places, but this place definitely made me uncomfortable, and unwelcome, and very much disturbed. I would not recommend going to this place unless you wanna have a sloppy disrespectful waitress, strangers coming up to you and trying to rip you off in front of the restaurant or a bouncer who doesn't even know how to protect their clients... Enough said.

Yelp
Not safe for women. I came here for new years paid $300 for a private table and was assulted twice by a patron who couldn't hold his liquor. The patron was upset I brushed him with my hair while dancing (so yeah crazy guy) . The first time he tried to harm me I notified security and the guard told me I was being dramatic but claimed he would speak to the man who assaulted me by knocking my drink out of my hand. I literally watched the guard hug and exchange a warm handshake before high giving a high five to the man that did this. I did try to go get someone else who was a woman to step in but the security guards talked down to them too and they kept apologizing. When I returned to my table to grab my coat and leave bc it wasn't safe there; the same man knocked a second drink out of my hand and told me to leave; I left after telling the hostess I was assaulted a second time. No refund was offered but apparently they put him out after we left. I spent 2 hours pulling the glass out of my velvet dress and leg and I just can't recommend this place bc they don't protect or listen to women. I felt robbed and assaulted bc there was no refund.

Yelp
Do not eat at this place. We went with a group of 16, 14 got food poisoning. And this is not the first time such a thing happens. 3 different groups got food poisoning there during 3 separate visits spanning a year. It's unfortunate because the place is gorgeous and the music is great, but there's obviously a serious problem in their kitchen that needs to be tended to urgently.

Yelp
I came here for brunch on a Sunday to celebrate my friend's birthday. This place has a lovely decor and it's quite spacious. We sat outside on the terrace where they had heaters, so that was great! I ordered fish tacos from the appetizer section, but had them as a main dish. It was definitely enough for a meal and they were absolutely delicious! My friend ordered the poke bowl and said it was very good as well. We had a cocktail each (I forget the name) and both were quite good. I asked one of the waiters if they could prepare a dessert for my friend's birthday. Since she's gluten intolerant, they made us a fruit bowl. I thought it was so nice of them! Staff was surprisingly very professional and welcoming, although they were young. Great place in general, but definitely on the pricey side.

Yelp
A spur of the moment nye reservation got us interested at this new Thai- Hawaiian resto bar in Old Montreal for a 4 course meal for 117$ including tax and gratuity. Dress code was spiffy casual. The decor is spectacular and very personalized, the brightly coloured graffiti walls to the personalized plates of 90 hip hop and R&B artists hung on the pillars. I loved the music! Got me dancing in my seat but that's pretty much it for the highlights. I was too quick to speak. We started with the speciality cocktails that my friends had ordered-that were very watered down with a lot of ice. I stuck to my whiskey. The food was below average - I am paying for very expensive Thai express shrimp pad Thai as my main. It was not anything exceptional, but it did the job of providing me carbs to compensate for my drinks. For appetizers-the 808 salad was ok, as were the dumplings. For dessert a New York styled cheesecake that was good. Presentation seemed to be lacking in all of these dishes. Service was also lacking, we were served by multiple servers that all seemed very confused and overwhelmed. At some point we even witnessed inappropriate yelling at service staff. Things got interesting as we were seated next to the bathroom that were brightly painted with brand labels such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel. There were rotating groups of the same people going into a single bathroom stall. Some had backpacks. You paint the story. Next thing there was cops scoping out the area. This situation was really unpleasant so we ended up leaving the venue to find another venue before countdown. It's a disappointment because this location has a lot of potential. I can't judge the menu as we came here for Nye-but you would think the restaurant would serve their best items for such a grand event. I would relabel the Farsides as a young trending place, definitely not high end.

Yelp
So where to start, we were looking for a cool place to celebrate the New Years, and we opted for The Farsides mainly because of the advertised 90s vibe. One online reservation of $ 117 later, we were at this restaurant which is very well decorated by the way, with great wall arts and very good music from the 90s. At that moment, I was 100% sure that we were going to have a great time there. At the sight of the menu, my ambitions were brought down. As a starter, we could choose between two salads, I opted for Salad 808, with avocado and kale salad (very simple, there was nothing out of the ordinary there). As a main dish, we had three choices, I chose Kalbifornia Love, which is made with pieces of fat, uh I mean kalbi beef, roasted pineapple, roasted chunky tomato, it wasn't good...at all. For dessert we had a cheesecake, the presentation left something to be desired but my friends liked it... I didn't. We were seated downstairs facing the entrance of the restrooms, which was probably not the best, and which probably precipitated our departure, but not for the reasons you might have thought of. First of all, we were treated to the improvised setting up of an additional table taken from the terrace outside, with a draft of freezing air and the sounds of small hammer blows here and there as a bonus. Then, very early in the evening we started noticing bizarre comings and goings from the restrooms side, men and women dressed in black with bags were entering, sometimes accompanied by several other people (I never thought so many people could fit in one restroom to be honest lol), no need to get into details you understand what was probably going on there. So of course, as expected, a few minutes later a group of police officers arrived ... And I guess that at that moment I knew that it was too much for me, I did not want to start the year in this atmosphere. Basically, they really missed the opportunity to make a memorable evening, two tables left before us. I will not be going back, this place is really not worth it.

Yelp
Went here on opening night. First lets mention the awesome decor- Brooklyn, the 90s and graffiti everywhere! Then the great 90s hip hop music choice creates a fun laidback atmosphere. Service was generally excellent, minus a few glitches that we can attribute to it being opening night. The menu offered was an abridged version of what is listed online, but still a great variety with vegetarian and vegan options. Cuisine is thai-Hawaiian fusion, and boy do they deliver great flavours. We started with the veggie rolls for an appetizer... The flavours were a bit underwhelming but the dish was definitely creative. Next we ordered the kombucha curry with black rice and the vegetarian pad thai (that we were told contained no fish/shrimp paste and was definitely veg-friendly). Unfortunately food came out cold and it took a while to get our waitress' attention, but once we did they quickly came back with warm and absolutely delicious dishes. The kombucha curry was by far one of the best flavours I have had in my mouth over the years and would absolutely recommend it. The pad thai was alright but not comparable to the curry. Next we had the passionfruit and guava donuts, that we expected would be small beignets style donuts perhaps filled with fruit custards, however they came out as rather large dough-y donuts that were tasty but a bit large and ordinary for dessert. The cocktails were absolute perfection. Overall the price came out very reasonably, we just wish they would have comped us something given we ended up waiting about an hour to get our food given the coldness of the first dishes. But will recommend and will give it another chance, especially once the full menu is out.

Yelp
We tried the ribs and the fried chicken bao. The ribs were tender and juicy. The fried chicken was full of flavor. They were both pretty good but a bit pricey for the portion.

Siny M.

Yelp
The rating above is based off the fact that they took reservations for their 11am Sunday brunch and even sent me reservation reminders to confirm we were coming. After we showed up, the entire place was closed with the doors locked. I tried calling and no one answered. It was a huge disappointment because they have social media that promotes their Hawaiian Sunday brunch yet they did not honor that nor did they reach out to customers to inform us to cancel it. We were left scrounging to find another brunch spot on our last day visiting Montréal

Yelp
This newly opened restaurant is close to work, so I will definitely come back for drinks. I really enjoyed the ambiance and the decor, which was very impressive and refreshing with its high ceiling and greenery. The food was ok, granted they just opened, so they weren't quite equipped in terms of having the proper utensils (for eating lobster for example). I ordered the lobster and pad thaï. The lobster was fresh and delicious, but the pad thaï was somewhat dry and lacked flavour. I wouldn't say that the food is what I would come here for. The drinks were delicious, but there was a bit too much ice which watered it down a lot. The service was also very friendly and efficient, no complaints here.

Yelp
I don't know who is running this place that they can't honor a reservation after it being in their books for over 1.5 months...obviously someone extremely disorganized. I booked this place on April 1st to kick off the first night of my friend's Bachelorette taking place tomorrow May 26...only 6 people at 8pm, so nothing they can't handle. I get a voicemail from an Unknown number saying "We have a private event tomorrow until 9pm so you can't come until 9 sorry for the inconvenience. Please call us back to confirm." Might want to leave a phone number next time for me to call back since you don't pick up the phone at the restaurant. Did this private event get booked in the last hour?! You had 1.5 months to tell me this information and now I'm scrambling to get a plan in place for the first night of what should be a really special occasion for my friend. Thinking I dodged a bullet here and just overall shocked at how this was handled. As Jerry Seinfeld said..."you know how to take the reservation, just not how to hold the reservation". Maybe if I ever have the chance to "be allowed" to enter the apparently SUPER exclusive doors of this restaurant, I'll get to leave a review on their food, but looks like due to poor management I won't get the chance.

Yelp
i went there on a girl night out thinking that the food and drinks were going to be amazing. the sangria was okay, obviously tasting like fruit punch more than sangria. very diluted compared to other restaurants that create amazing sangrias. we started with appetisers fries and fried chicken. the fries are oven mccain fries from the frozen dept in your grocery store... and the sauce was mediocre. dont be fooled by what you read on the menu. after 5mins they were saggy.. as for the fried chicken i think someone mustve dropped the whole salt container in the batter because it was almost not eatable. also kind of oily and greyish at color..... the cabbage salad was mediocre also.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night, which, as expected, would be busy. The place was very hectic and loud, hosting at least 2 bachelor and bachelorette parties which were very noisy. The ambience earned them an extra star to be honest. As for the food, I will rate each dish separately. The portions were smaller than expected. Appetizers: Remixed Fries: Delicious, thinly cut and the flavours were amazing. Nice touch with the sauce and the ramen (?) bits. Papaya Salad: It lacked seasoning. There was too much Thai Basil and the papaya was tasteless. No one was impressed with the long green beans so they were thrown away. Tiki Tacos: The last redeeming dish of the night. The fish could have a bit more crunch to them as it appears that it soaked a bit too much oil. It could have used a second fry as well. Overall, the taste was there for the tacos. OG Fried Chicken: Way too "overfried". It was practically a few minutes away from being burnt and the sauce did nothing to enhance its flavour. The coleslaw was decent. Main Course: Drunken Lobster Pad Thai: the sauce was WAY too sweet. If you're thinking of a honey-kind of sweet, triple that. The sauce was very scant and the noodles did not have any lobster taste. This dish should have been called Sweet Pad Thai with a side of cold lobster. The head of the lobster was completely empty and also cold. It seems like the meat was cooked and left too long in the cooler. For 60$, it was a disappointment. Island Crab Fried Rice: The concept appeared interesting as I have made dishes where I fried some rice and placed it neatly into a pineapple. The presentation of this dish was barren and sad. The pineapple taste did not emanate from this dish at all, aside from the small amount of pineapple cubes that appeared to be almost burnt. It could have used way more seasoning and extra taste. Very disappointed as it is hard to miss such a simple and staple dish... The crab was the redeeming factor of this dish. To be honest, it could survive as a standalone dish since the rice was the sidedish. Seafood Boil: The oysters were not good and the shrimps were practically burnt. The lobster, once again, was cold and the head, empty. The potatoes were overcooked and practically fell apart. We didn't even touch the corn as it was not appealing. Overall, a friend recommended me this place as he enjoyed the tacos and the fries. And, honestly, I should have sticked to those 2 dishes as everything else that I tried was not a hit and a definite miss. Unless something changes, I do not recommend this place in the near future.

Yelp
I've come here for a friend's birthday and hesitated to give this review knowing that restaurants are having a hard time because of covid... but upon reconsidering the whole experience we had while dining here, I really think the least we could do is give constructive criticism in order for these restaurants to survive. Farsides has everything going for itself: the vibe, the location, the staff, but the service sadly failed to deliver. While we were understanding that the staff weren't to blame for the experience we had, My friends and I along with the other people who were dining at the same time as us were in disbelief at how long it took them to come to our table and get our order. We waited more than an hour for one of the many servers to come, asking the busboys why we've yet seen anyone coming to the tables to get customer orders. We were told they were all in a meeting, despite the restaurant being open to customers. Nevertheless, it was a friend's birthday and we found them really nice when it came to accommodating the birthday surprise (hence why I gave a second star), but then the food... Basically, the quality did not match the price. Half of my burger was burnt, tasted awful after I took a huge slice; my friend's dish that was served in a pineapple wasn't even served in one as indicated on the menu & website pictures: the whole dish was spread all over a thin pineapple slice, the sweet and sour chicken & pad Thai didn't taste anywhere near as good as one you would find for 9$ at PandaThai. and the cocktails... you'd expect more alcohol in them at that price. All this to say: if you want the same type of food they serve here, you'll find WAY better & less expensive elsewhere. If you want good cocktails, it's not the place to be. If you're in it for the vibe however, I get it. Just don't expect your date will like the food though.

Yelp
Visited this tiki bar as part of their themed bbq brunch and bottomless sangria offered on Sundays. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were informed that the kitchen was opening only one hour later due to late deliveries. Oh, and that the bbq wasn't on the menu but that the regular menu was being sever. Also, our waitress failed to specify that the red sangria was the only one that was bottomless out of the array of sangrias they offered, and at 44$ a pitcher, that would have been nice to mention when we were first seated. Alas, I'm very chip, so we shared a few plates from the menu including the dumplings, papaya salad, lobster roll, fish tacos and the fried chicken. The food was delicious for the most part; the bread of the lobster roll wasn't holding the filling properly so that was a messy bite but the papaya salad was one of the best I've ever tasted. The fish tacos were perfectly crisp while the dumplings were nice and flavourful. The service was attentive and I found that the busboys clearing our serving plates and dinnerware were nicer than most staff. I liked the outdoor space and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed afternoon in the old port. The 90s hip hop beats and graffitied walls didn't necessarily scream Hawaï or Thai for that matter but this fusion restaurant's cuisine and sangria would be reason I'd come back..

Yelp
My girlfriends and I went out for dinner and drinks and the experience was amazing! Brian the manager treated us like queens and made sure everything was on point. Our waiter was also really friendly. A must have are the fish tacos, we all devoured them and were so tasty! A fun place to also hang out afterwards at the bar for fun drinks and great music. Decor is also really cool! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Was a bit disappointed with my experience. This place is only getting 3 stars due to its ambiance. The place has a very nice decor, music and overall vibe. The drinks are also good. However, the food was nothing special really. You can most likely find something better for much cheaper in Chinatown. The server had a bit of an attitude. Rushed us for our orders and did not allow us to order appetizers while we were waiting for other people who were going to join us. He said he is only allowed to take all orders at once, even if we wanted to wait for the whole party to order our main course. I was very excited to visit The Farsides but besides the ambiance, its is a pretty average place. Not coming back.

Yelp
I came from Ottawa to try this 5 week old restaurant after reading some good reviews. My comments take into account the break-in period. It is true that the decor is stylistic in its originality, and will attract the 35 to 45 year old crowd. The music works perfectly with this ambiance, which seems to attract those who want to mingle with an original cocktail in hand and be noticed. We were in early, too early for this crowd, but it was meant to see how everything worked. It took a little while to be welcomed at the door (too early I guess), but once we got seated, we got a lot of attention. My companion had a very nice martini and I opted for a glass of wine. By the glass, the choice is very limited and it seems that the bartender needs to learn how to let wine breathe. Luckily I was offer a sample, and could return the first one. The second choice was a bit better as I asked the waiter to pour the wine for the 2 of us right away, so it would better reveal itself when the meal would be ready 20 minutes later. Still so so. Waiters should also be trained to make suggestions of wine - meal combinations. We ordered two main course items: the Drunken Lobster Pad Thai (59$) and the Thaiwaiian North Shore Shrimp (30$ on the menu, but will be move to the Appetizers section soon, according to the manager). The later was absolutely perfect: a really nice combinaison of spices, with a few blackberries for a great mix of salt and sweet. It is well presented, and worth trying. The Drunken lobster pad Thai did not do justice to positive critic I had read. While the noodles where tasty, the lobster was overcooked (yet, we were very few customers at that point), and frankly overpriced for the feeling it left as a "special" entree. The manager to whom I spoke and the waiter were both professional and attentive. The manager is aware that a few wrinkles may need to be smoothed out.

Yelp
The service was very subpar, unfortunately. Seated for 20 minutes before being approached by a server, 25 minutes to get 2 drinks. We were never asked about ordering any food, appetizers, etc. The drinks were good. We were there for over two hours and had one drink each. I want to think that the experience is better on other nights.

Yelp
Walking into this place is impressive. Unassuming from the outside, it's much bigger than it looks inside, with graffiti on the walls... and an incredibly lively atmosphere. But that's about where the greatness ends. The food and drinks aren't memorable, average at best. Had the remix fries (a huge serving, for those wondering, enough to share as an app) and the crab fried rice - the piece of soft shell crab was the best part, the rest of it was... fine.

Yelp
So many restaurants have lost quality and its so sad. I went twice before covid and i was very impressed. Beautiful decor loved the vibe and the food and presentation was amazing. July, after covid, quality went down alot. Food wasnt great and service was horrible. The staff is very nice and friendly but they lack experience and that can easily bring a restaurant down. We sat for a while as many waiters and bussboys walked by our table and didnt even pay attention or at the least serve us water , and it wasnt busy at all. Its unfortunate because this place has alot of potential. I won't be returning

Yelp
The Farsides was really expensive for a dish of Pad Thai and a drink, it wasn't even satisfying and the taste was average. Overall, nice vibes and music - but price wise, not worth it.

Yelp
Okay so I was celebrating a pretty big milestone and made an effort to actually dine in somewhere instead of ordering in we were looking for something upscale and saw a couple of reviews and insta stories from this place so we gave it a go. Farsides has an incredible vibe and the interior decor is amazing. The drink menu looks super cool to with options I'd definitely return for, however on the night I went they didn't serve 4 of the sangrias that were on the menu and we were a little disappointed with that. The food options had so many cool things it was hard to choose we ended up getting some apps and our mains were the crab fried rice and poke bowl. The apps were the fried chicken loaded fries and rolls. Over all the food was great and all had a twist on what the typical item would be the only fish lacking in flavour for me was the fried chicken. Other then that the food was good but defiantly had a higher price point on it I'm not sure the price matched the plates but good news on Wednesdays you can get dumplings and rolls for 2$ makes it a great chance to see the drink menu and grab some good ass apps.
