Anticipated Lebanese Restaurant Leila Opens in Downtown Detroit | Eater Detroit

"Located at the base of the renovated Farwell Building in Capitol Park, downtown Detroit, this new Lebanese restaurant from father-and-son operators Sameer and Samy Eid (also behind Birmingham favorites Phoenicia and Forest) is positioned as a slightly more casual sibling to Phoenicia with an emphasis on family-style dining and Lebanese mezze. Named for Samy’s mother, the menu features fresh pita, Phoenicia’s beloved dry-rubbed ribs and a variety of grilled meat dishes known collectively as mashawi. The venue seats about 130 guests, includes a basement private dining room and a 20-seat lounge, and plans to add a patio in the future. Reservations are being handled through Resy for dinner service only, with most nights showing availability except for Saturday, November 2." - Brenna Houck

Leila Aims for Late-Summer Opening in Detroit’s Capitol PArk | Eater Detroit

"A historic structure overlooking Capitol Park that had been vacant since the 1980s, the Farwell Building is undergoing a major restoration and will house Leila on its south side; while Eid initially hoped to preserve raw, weathered interior elements, the historic renovation required drywall throughout the dining room, leading the team to cover original brick with drywall and add brick veneer in places to recreate a similar look." - Brenna Houck

Phoenicia Owners Bring New Restaurant Leila to Downtown Detroit in 2019 | Eater Detroit

"A historic downtown Detroit building in the evolving Capitol Park area that is undergoing a major rehabilitation expected to be completed in late 2018. The rehab will add roughly 82 luxury apartments and new commercial space, including a 4,500-square-foot ground-floor restaurant with mezzanine, and is part of broader neighborhood growth into a hub for restaurants and high-end residential development." - Brenna Houck

I lived here for 2.5 years & I absolutely loved it. The building is beautiful and up to date. Management & maintenance are so friendly & easy to get ahold of. They are very responsive & know most of their tenants which was reassuring for me. Capitol park is a beautiful & safe area to the point I felt safe walking home by myself after a night out. Great community, great management, great area & beautiful units!! 10/10 recommend

Google
The Farwell is a nice building but the management team drops the rating down to 1 star. The property did a beautiful job with the restoration of the building but left out multiple details in the units. The quality of cabinets they installed are low cheap quality Ikea-like cabinets. The island is awkwardly high. Some cabinets can't open when another cabinet is open. The drawers easily get out of alignment causing them to not close properly. One of the biggest flaws to the kitchen is the lack of a garbage disposal which makes cooking a pain. Moving on to the laundry, the combo unit is suboptimal. The units get clogged up with lint and dry clothing poorly despite their "routine maintenance" on the units. Each load of wash/dry takes 3-4+ hours making laundry a big pain. Now onto the management team. They will nickle and dime you when you move out. Their senior leasing manager, Kevin is difficult to contact. Numerous emails asking him to call to discuss an issue by phone always led to another email reply by him but no phonecall. He tells you one thing and then does something else. Keep an eye on your security deposit because they will charge you an outrageous fee to do simple drywall repair. They charged $300 dollars to repair small holes from mounting TVs in locations that they designed walls with outlets/cables for mounting TVs. They also do a strange antic of telling you a lease rate then writing a rate that is $100 more on the lease and then they discount you the $100 off if you pay on time. Why not just list the rent they advertise? Seems like they are trying to circumvent some law to squeeze more money out of a tenent. Response to owner: I lived at the property for two years and moved out in 2021. Unit 711. Interesting that they do not challenge vague 5 star reviews but challenge the name of the author of a detailed review.

Living at The Farwell has been a great experience. The quality of the unit is really good. I haven't had any maintenance problems in the almost two years that I've lived here. They do regular preventative maintenance. All the appliances are pretty new and are high quality. The sound proofing is great. The walls are very thick and I cannot hear the people below, above or next to me at all. Neighbors are great and very friendly. The staff is easy to work with and very responsive.

Google
I loved my time living at The Farwell! Management was so friendly and professional from before move in through move out. The building is secure and quiet inside, and my unit had a breathtaking view of downtown straight to the riverfront. I rarely needed to contact maintenance, and the few times I did, they were prompt and always helpful. Highly, highly recommend!

Living here was OK. It was not extravagant and it was also not a dump. I write this review to inform future renters to watch your security deposit and payments very closely at the Farwell or any other attributed group. I never thought to do so because the people seem trustworthy yet I moved out of my apartment at The Farwell on the 3rd of December. It is the 23rd of January (Roughly 50 days later). I still have not received my security deposit or overpayment that I had paid because I stupidly signed up for their automated payment system. I will update the review but I would be very cautious about moving in here. The property manager seems very nice but I have been getting nothing but the run around from him. Be careful!

I've been a resident for almost two and a half years. The community is clean, quiet, and great if you don't care for all of the extras other communities may offer at a premium. My favorite parts of my apartment are the premium-feeling stand up showers which is great for 6 ft+ folks and in-unit washer/dryer. The rooftop is a great space to use when the weather is nice and great for entertaining. The secured access on the entrance and elevators creates some peace of mind. Management also provides community engagement opportunities. Areas of improvement would be a more seamless visitor access experience and better securing of packages in a locker-type system. I think the fee for replacing a lost or damaged badge is a bit high ($150) as well as it is easy to break but get a plastic holder to avoid the need to replace.

I have lived in The Farwell building since November 2020. I think it is the best apartment building in downtown Detroit. The building itself is an architectural gem. It is owned by Michigan people who obviously love this building. The outside is very well maintained and the common areas inside are always super clean. Leila restaurant on the ground floor is one of the best downtown. I am on the 5th floor in a studio unit with a wonderful view of capital park. The rent is very reasonable and the increase for year 2 was fair. I have had 1 maintenance issue, which was a leaky shower faucet and they fixed it within a few days on the first visit. I would highly recommend The Farwell if you want to live in Capital Park. Great roof top space too, with BBQ grill.

I have lived at the Farewell for four months. I have nothing but praise for the management team (Kara and Sahar), who has always been extremely friendly and responsive throughout all our communications, as well as very helpful and flexible during the move-in process. The historic building's overall architecture and interior lobby design are stunning. The apartment interior space is well layout and tastefully appointed, with modern lighting and plumbing fixtures as well as very functional kitchen and bath cabinet designs. All appliances are brand new and very functional, and the central heating and cooling systems work very efficiently. I would highly recommend The Farwell if you are looking to live near Capital Park.

Yelp
I cannot recommend living here enough. I have rented a unit with my husband for the last 3.5 years and will be signing a lease for a 4th year this April. I rarely have issues, but when I do, the maintenance portal is so easy to use and it's fairly quick because there aren't a ton of units in the building. The walls are also super thick- I rarely hear my neighbors so it's nice and quiet (minus the usual city sounds). I don't have an extensive relationship with the new property managers (Reed and Chimere) which is a good thing haha it means I never have issues or complaints! They also accept pets now which has been wonderful. I appreciate their seasonal events (for nearly every holiday) as it's a great way to get to know your neighbors. I could go on and on but would recommend to anyone!

Coleman S.

Yelp
10/10 experience so far! Reed & Chimere are incredible and very attentive to the tenants. They host fun community-building events for residents, keep you informed on discounts, and all of my maintenance requests have been solved within 24 hours. Love the building, people, and prime location.

Yelp
Nice property but management is extremely dishonest. They will nickle and dime you when you move out. Their greed is evident from the get go when they advertise a rent rate and then list a rent $100 more expensive on your leases and then give you a $100 discount if paid on time. Seems like that scheme is a bit sketchy and skirting around some law... Parking is terrible. You are paying prime rent and have to walk a block to your vehicle where you will pay an additional $250 per car.

Yelp
Management (Jennifer, Kate, etc.) is rude, impossible to contact, overcharged me $300 on rent (which I discovered myself). Lived here for two years - unit was nice but zero amenities and management company is terrible. Showed up on move in day, the unit had not been cleaned (which you pay for) and they listed the unit as "available" on their website before my lease was up. Would never recommend anyone to live here, plenty of other options in downtown Detroit.

Yelp
I originally loved the apartment but as time went on it got worse and worse. The staff, mostly Jennifer, is awful, non responsive, and rude. As for maintenance and the cleaning staff they are exceptional!!! The rent is ridiculous and there's no grace period. Jennifer, when I was registering my cat as an esa, lied, didn't respond to any email or call. My doctor had to reach out as well and it took three weeks for a response. I've always wanted to live at the farwell and it did not live up to my expectations. I suggest really considering it before you move in.
