The Best New Restaurants in Portland, June 2025 | Eater Portland

"Bread and wine? What is this, church? This unusual wine bar-bakery combo is the result of owner Chanelle Sinclair — who had been doing bread and grilled cheese pop-ups for years — realizing that her favorite wine bar, Maeve, was up for sale. On New Year’s Day, the Fates opened, offering a wide range of beer, wine, and cocktails, plus some vegetable-forward dishes and, arguably the star of the show, focaccia topped with things like miso, apple, and sesame." - Zoe Baillargeon

Fates Bread and Bottle Co Will Sling Fully Loaded Focaccia and Wine in Portland Soon | Eater Portland

"Opening in the former Maeve space in Sellwood‑Moreland and slated to debut by late November, Fates Bread and Bottle Co. is the first permanent storefront from founder Chanelle Sinclair, who began baking Dutch‑oven boules in Phoenix in 2020 and became known for jazzing her loaves with add‑ins like rosemary, caramelized onions, and extra‑sharp cheddar. What started as beloved neighborhood bread and pop‑up loaded grilled cheeses — including a childhood‑inspired sandwich with American cheese, sriracha butter, and mayonnaise — has evolved into a wine shop and bar that will pour local and globally sourced wines, sake, beer, and a full cocktail menu alongside bar bites built around crackly focaccia and loaded grilled cheese sandwiches; Sinclair previewed the menu on Maeve’s last day, serving a ramen‑flavored snack mix and four focaccia flavors topped with miso, apple, and sesame, and now plans a chile‑crisp focaccia. Sinclair wants the space to feel like the heart of her supper club — a warm, welcoming “third space” where guests feel like they have a seat at her table — and she’s stocking shelves with local winemakers, leaning into a mythology‑inspired name tied to her personal history, and treating this opening as a joyful, nonnegotiable commitment to serving her community: “It’s my wine bar for fuck’s sake, I want to play.”" - Rebecca Roland

The Best New Cocktail Bars in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Owner Chanelle Sinclair has transformed the former Maeve space into a witchy wine bar filled with a properly arcane amount of clutter. Dried flowers, oracle decks, riot grrrl concert posters, and a handsome beechwood library ladder add to the beguiling charm of what could have been just another bourgeoisie bottle shop. Wine is the focus of course, but there are a couple of mixed drinks on the menu, including a nonalcoholic spritz with unexpectedly savory additions of a thyme sprig and olive garnish. Harder pre-batched cocktails are in the works for future menus." - Ben Coleman

This place and its owner, Chanelle(?), are an absolute delight. This vibrant owner does it all herself, putting together your wine flights according to your individual tastes, preparing tasty Tupperware tray charcuterie boards (the olives are to die for), baking the tastiest focaccias (my mouth is watering thinking about them), and hosts as though you have come to visit her home. No… seriously… she does it all. She has no help. Great little treasure of a place. The back patio is a little oasis. Highly recommended.

The Fates Bread and Bottle Co. is absolutely fantastic! Chanelle, the owner, is so welcoming and friendly – you can tell she truly loves what she does. Her dog, Haru, is the perfect addition to the experience – so sweet and adorable! The atmosphere is cozy, the service is impeccable, and the selection of bread and wine is just as amazing as the people. If you’re looking for a spot with a great vibe and even better hospitality, this is it. Highly recommend!

This is the moodiest, vibiest wine bar in Portland. Come here for the wine and homemade focaccia bread by Chef Chanelle and stay for the nice long chats and cozy ambience. I just recently had the pleasure of hosting a private event here and it was pure magic. Make sure you take some time to get to know Chanelle. She is a true gem of a human and a one of a kind creative chef.

I feel so lucky to have come across The Fates. It is easily my new favorite spot for wine and snacks in Sellwood-Moreland! The Fates has charming decor and a great vibe that makes you want to stay a while. Chanelle, the owner, is amazing - she makes every customer feel incredibly welcomed and at home. I legit feel like this is how the characters in Cheers must have felt. Perfect place to unwind with good food and wine. Highly recommend!

What is this magic? This place is fairyland or heaven or a combination of both? Every square inch is gorgeous, the food is made by the gods (or just the owner, who I wish were both my mom and my best friend and my sister and my personal chef). And I don't know how to describe the sweet dog that is her companion. A saint in doggy clothing who makes you feel like he sincerely loves you and only you. If I die and go to heaven I'll spend all of eternity in a place like this.

I already had pretty high expectations from following them on Instagram for a few weeks, and I was still blown away. The patio is gorgeous and the service is amazing. My party managed to try cocktails, flights, and full pours of wine and everything we got was truly great. The food is fantastic - perfect flavors and lots of options for dietary restrictions (so much dairy free!) New favorite in Sellwood!

This is the cutest little wine bar. The owner designed it so well, wine selection was great and very affordable. The food was excellent- we had the onion dip and homemade focaccia with tomato jam. Great spot to sip on a cold winter night inside or a summer afternoon on their patio. We’ll be back!

Yelp
Food is quite good. Very cozy atmosphere, sleepy dog in the corner. Owner and chef is cool. We got about a half dozen apps and wine for the 4 of us and loved everything. Highly recommend the curry yogurt kettle chips. So good. It's a little Portland "woo-woo", so maybe your super Christian RW step mom would be comfortable with the atmosphere. It's eclectic and fun. All good.

Yelp
I wish I'd known about this place sooner! Nice wine selections, delicious snack - the salted rosemary focaccia with tomato jam was terrific! Chanelle and Haru were welcoming hostesses, and the place was a very comfortable place to just hang & enjoy being where I was. I'll definitely be recommending it to friends, and I'm looking forward to my next visit!

Yelp
We were so excited to come here and it did not disappoint!! The focaccia (we had both options) was absolutely delicious as was the olive and cheese appetizer. Chanelle talked to us about the special wine pours of the day (she knows wine!!) and helped us pick exactly what we were in the mood for. My friend also had a cocktail which she said was 10/10. The vibes are cute, cozy, witchy, and very Portland. I felt very welcome and can't wait to go back!
