Witt was the best server that we could ask for. The food here is some of the best that you could ever ask for. The atmosphere was wonderful inside this Farmhouse Restaurant that opened in the 70s. I highly recommend this place. You also get to see the Belted Galloway cows, goats and chickens.

What can I say? Anyplace Chef Edna Lewis worked has to be spectacular. her chocolate soufflé recipe with a dark chocolate ganache Chef's Kiss! went with friends everything was amazing from the apps , service, atmosphere. I highly recommend. Check out the history amazing and the best Chef to exist worked there . 🙏🙏🙏

From start to finish, this was an exceptional dining experience. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated by the host. The interior is tasteful and elegant, with the charm of an old house. Every detail of our evening felt thoughtful and intentional. I was celebrating my birthday, and when we arrived at our table, the menu read “Happy Birthday Ms. Krug!” — such a lovely touch. The food was spectacular. It’s clear the chefs are highly skilled; each dish was beautifully presented, well-balanced, and dare I say, perfect. The service is unmatched. Our server, Dan, was friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly attentive. From the timely placement of silverware to the quiet refilling of water glasses and the smooth pacing of courses, everything was spot on. As we were leaving, he even noticed us taking selfies outside and came out to offer to snap a few photos — such a kind gesture. The little things and the big things were all considered and executed flawlessly. I can’t wait for my next meal here.

The Fearrington House was absolutely exquisite. Everything from the customized birthday to the menu, the wine and where we were placed was beautiful. Our waiter was awesome and he had a wonderful personality. The "RESA" wine was beautiful. The quality was amazing worth the money. I loved that everything was a slower paced because it left more time to talk and enjoy ourselves.

FIVE STARS – The Fearrington House Restaurant is undoubtedly one of the finest dining experiences in North Carolina. On past visits, I’ve enjoyed everything from their elegant afternoon tea to beautifully prepared seasonal dinners with exceptional wine pairings and unforgettable desserts. The food, service, and ambiance have never disappointed. While I missed the dinner hour on this trip, I’ve included photos of the beautiful grounds, restaurant, and outdoor pavilion—well worth a visit in any season.

This place has been on my list for a while. My boyfriend surprised me for my birthday tonight, before I could even take him first. It was dark when we got there. As we arrived, you noticed the cute little village area, with shops, the hotel and restaurant. Parking was easy to find. We walked over to the restaurant, the outside was beautiful. We were immediately greeted by the hostess when we walked in and led to our table. The inside was just as beautiful and well organized. Our waiter came by shortly thereafter to get our water preference first and the back again to explain the menu (chef's tasting vs prix fixe menu) as well as drink order. We decided on the prix fixe 4 course dinner. The night was eventful from beginning to end; there's so much detail I can get into. From our waiter who was amazing, informative, impeccably detailed and entertaining throughout the night. To each beautifully curated course presented to us, which were delicious and proportioned perfectly. The famous chocolate souffle was the star of the evening! Overall, we had an excellent experience and we can't wait to come back again. (See Photos section for pictures)

In the great circle of restaurant journeys, there are those places that you always mean to go. Places that have stellar reviews, long history, amazing reputations...and for some reason or another you never quite make it. Tonight we hit one of our longtime list dwellers and were NOT disappointed. This really was an experience. Top notch service. Atmosphere. Food. Wine. They even had a special menu printed for our anniversary celebration. I could spend a lot of time reviewing the food, but I think you really can't go wrong. Pick a menu and make sure to get the wine pairings because your eyes will be opened up to some amazing combinations. Sommeliers were top notch. One amazing standout was the halibut my wife enjoyed. Truly one of the best pieces of fish either of us have had. The Hokkaido scallops and remarkable interpretation of steak tartare ranked a close second. And finally, get the chocolate souffle. You will not regret it.

Fist time visiting and our experience could not have been BETTER! Amazing food, service, atmosphere. Come for a special occasion and be ready to spend a couple hours thorouhly enjoying yourself.

Birthday dinner on Friday, Mar 30th was great. We booked a few weeks in advance through Open table. Restaurant called at on Thursday to confirm reservation, occasion and allergies/intolerances. Servers, sommelier were friendly. Asked for St. Laurent Austrian wine or a wine to complement all dishes from the Chef's tasting menu. A German pinot noir was recommended. First sip and the rest following it was light and smooth. Ambiance was inviting. It did feel a little chilly in the beginning but as guests started coming in, the temperature was barely noticeable. Floor boards creaked a little, tablecloth still with a center crease. But I am no Michelin critic so those few things didn't bother me at all. I was there to have a good time and enjoy a celebratory dinner. A tasting menu for two, plus a bottle of red wine & a couple cocktails rang up a bill of $500+, tip not included. Truly enjoyed it. 5/5

Dinner at The Fearrington House Restaurant was one of the best dining experiences we've had anywhere. It was certainly among the very best we've had in North Carolina. The food and service were simply phenomenal. Fine dining at its finest. This place was recommended to us by some friends. I probably would have no idea of its existence otherwise. It's kind of located out in the middle of nowhere. I say "kind of" because it was only about a 20-minute drive from our home in Chapel Hill. This place is certainly worth the drive from anywhere in the Triangle, and points beyond. It's that good. The Fearrington House Restaurant is part of Fearrington Village, a sort of farm-like resort that, along with the restaurant, offers boutique shopping, a spa, and an inn. There are also houses, squares, and a park with ponds and trails tucked away from the retail area. The residential neighborhood is sizable. My wife loved this place because the village was a mini getaway from the Triangle. As we drove past the Belted Galloway cows and the silo on the way in, we knew we were entering someplace special. Overall, the property was really charming, peaceful, and idyllic. It was magical as well -- after dinner, we took a stroll around the house and gardens. Along with the beautiful foliage and landscaping, there were rabbits and fireflies. When I booked our reservations, my wife and I were pleasantly surprised to learn that The Fearrington House is a Relais & Chateaux property. Just a couple months prior to our visit here, we had stayed at our first Relais & Chateaux property, Le Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts, in Bora Bora. That was a stellar experience as well. These experiences make us want to go to more Relais & Chateaux properties in the future. The Fearrington House Restaurant is prix fixe dinner only. The menu is seasonal. For us, the price was $150 per four-course dinner with optional $100 wine pairing. Also, one of the main course options, the steak, had an $80 "supplement" if you wanted to upgrade to Japanese wagyu over the regular ribeye. In addition to the four courses, there were three hors d'oeuvres (two canapes and one amuse-bouche), a "pre-dessert," and even post-dessert treats; the latter was not listed on the menu. There were three options per course. How do they even think up some of this stuff? For example, we were hit with Macarons with Foie Gras Ganache and Local Beet Gummies right out the gate. And everything worked well together and was delicious (e.g., the macarons were both sweet and savory, and tasted fantastic). My wife, who loves to cook, commented that she would never think to make beets into gummies. Every dish was complex. We could tell a lot of thought and work was put into each course and the bites in between. The chefs weren't afraid to play with texture as well as flavor. Also, there was an amazing attention to detail. For example, the way they stacked and piped various ingredients on dishes such as the Panna Cotta and Stuffed Quail, and the way they placed curled-up cucumber inside a slice of jalapeno on the Crudo. The presentation was unique, meticulous, and visually appealing. Generally, the drinks were very balanced and refreshing. I really enjoyed the Virtuous Imbiber. It was strong and robust. Service was exceptional. My wife commented that the staff made her feel really special and I agree. We were their focus and priority. The staff was extremely attentive. Our server was Brianna, who has worked at Fearrington Village for many years. She was terrific.

Did the tea time brunch which is a fixed price (50$) and had the option of choosing from a variety of teas. They brought out a beautiful array of assorted pastries, however, I wish there was an option to choose from a variety of them. Overall recommend this place if you want a nice Sunday brunch intimate setting.

This review is for the Afternoon Tea at the House served Thursday-Sunday from 12-3 with reservations required. We loved the seating, variety of sweet and savory bites, and tea selection. You pick the type of tea you would like and it is brought out in a lovely pot and steeped perfectly. There were delicious sandwiches and then sweet scones and seasonal pudding and other scrumptious bites. Service is fantastic and always very hospitable. It is fun to also take a stroll around Fearrington Village, visit the bookshop, see the cows and goats, and peruse the boutiques.

As part of my son's birthday celebration, my daughter, son, and I decided to go for dinner at the Fearrington House restaurant. My son did some research and based on the reviews, we chose this restaurant for his birthday dinner. The Fearrington House restaurant is situated in a village environment. The set up is beautiful and is reminiscent of a plantation. There is an inn on the property and other activities available. We were greeted professionally and seated quickly upon arrival. The tables are set up in various rooms within the building. Our table was in a cozy area towards the back of one of the rooms. Our server was also very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. As this was our first time visiting this restaurant, she was patient with us, and answered our questions accordingly. This enhanced our visit. We each had a four course meal with different chef treats between the courses. All dishes served were plated nicely and were very creative and unique. The combination of flavors created a burst of different sensations within the mouth. There were a few dishes that we enjoyed quite a bit and others more of an acquired taste but was flavorful. We were concerned that the portions would be too small, and we would still feel hungry at the end of our four course meal; however, that was not the case. The portions were adequate, and because of how many courses there were, by the time we were finished, we felt full and content. Each dish was cooked appropriately, had great texture and consistency. We drank distilled water, and we only ordered one mixed drink. The Irish Teatime was a great drink. It was tasty, not too strong, and refreshing. My son enjoyed it very much. Overall, we had a good visit. More importantly, my son was extremely happy with his birthday dinner celebration and the small birthday treats from the chef.

Myself and a couple of others came for Afternoon Tea (50.00/person) It's a lovely setting and nicely decorated house converted into a restaurant. Each person gets a pot of tea of their choice of tea flavor and one of each sandwich, scone, and dessert provided. Finger sandwiches were a bit lacking. We received one cream cheese with cucumber on stale tasting bread that lacked any flavor, one egg salad that was not actually a finger sandwich but a canapé, and one biscuit with homemade pimento cheese which again was not an actual finger sandwich both tasted good however but for the price you would expect at least 4-5 finger style sandwiches. The scone was a golden raisin scone served with a homemade lemon curd, whipped cream, and strawberry jelly, it tasted good as well. The desserts were all very rich and flavorful but even in such a small size became a little too much with 5 different items to enjoy. Gingerbread cow head shaped cookies, chocolate peppermint macaroons (which tasted freshly made), orange chocolate torte with pieces of crystallized orange, mango whipped cream filled cream puff crusted with ground coconut to give it a crunch on the outside, and a coffee cheesecake with toasted meringue reminiscent of a toasted marshmallow. All were so yummy! We will definitely return but hope to see a little more in finger style sandwiches and 1-2 less desserts.

We came here for a dinner with the whole family. The interior of the house is well-decorated, although a bit old fashioned. But it's not to loud so we were able to easily have some great conversation. The waitress was kind and explained all of the courses well. We ordered the three course meals, which provided each person with options for the course. Me and Isabel got different things for each course so we could expand the amount of dishes we tried. The most memorable item was actually the soufflé for dessert, it has a nice presentation and is quite rich. Everything is very well presented, but given how much they're charging it's not exceptional. I had the steak for my main course and Isabel had the Halibut. She thought the halibut was to dry and I thought the steak was underwhelming. We switched plates and were happier with each other's choice. The food overall is quite good, but it probably not good enough to justify the high price tag. Review for tea: Pro: our server Jasmine had excellent service. Food was delicious Accommodating to gluten free, dairy free and for kids. Good variety of tea AND you get to try different kinds if you want. Bathroom soap and lotion smelled nice Con: host was not so attentive. The area we were in smelled like mildew.

I told my husband we were long overdue for a fancy night out and this was my dining choice. It was the dessert that drew me here. I was dying to try the chocolate soufflé. It definitely met all my expectation. It was so light and fluffy and the perfect chocolate flavor. It was so good I had to make it the first highlight of my review. Now working backwards, I ordered the fried chicken. It was perfect. Nice and crispy and the presentation was great. It was fun and thoughtful and the taste of truffle and gravy was a perfect combination. My husband tried the pasta dish. He really enjoyed it. We ate at the bar area and it was small and cozy. The restaurant itself is like an old house. The service was slow but very friendly. I want to return to try the high tea!

Disappointing, light fixtures throughout the restaurant needed serious cleaning! Grey and dusty. Food was good but for a 5 diamond and associated $$$$$, I expected perfection. These were some of the issues: 1. Dangerous step at front door. Signage for caution was 8' high on the door. Mentioned last time I was there my friend literally FELL out the door. Fortunately not seriously hurt. The hostess told me yes they were addressing that issue. I suspect that was a lie to appease me as the incident happened last year and still remained. 2. Lemons were not cleared of seeds before serving with water and food. Five stars, really? 3. A small course consisting of tomatoes was tasteless, as the tomatoes were stored in the frig robbing all the flavor. Seems their convenance took precedence over Serving the best. 4. Wait staff overused the phrase "of course" in response to everything (e.g. thank you, may I have a box, appreciate it, etc) to the point of distraction and instead of being courteous it projected robotics and insincerity. 5. Was not asked for a wine selection. After the second plate, I asked for wine and then was provided. Five stars...should I need to ask? 6. A young waiter/busing the table in between courses; came to the table chewing some food??? What the heck? 7. Considering a fix price meal of approximately $500 w/tip and two glasses of wine, I'd say grossly overrated, even though food was good, experience and atmosphere were disappointing. Sadly, Fearrington House is not living up to the hype.

Wow!!!! Took my bestie for high tea and they went above and beyond in every aspect. The teas offered were exceptional- they serve Harney and Sons which is my favorite! We both got the hot cinnamon which I strongly recommend if you love cinnamon and spice. The finger foods were thoughtfully selected so you had a bit of savory and sweet. My personal favorites were the biscuits with pimento cheese and the passion fruit crème puff. My friend has a number of allergies and they made accommodations and substitutions with no issue or hassle- they even asked ahead of time to plan! They also gave her a personalized menu of the service which she could keep as a memento of our special day. The atmosphere is NOT stuffy, it's simple refined elegance. After tea, we had a great time shopping at the book store, tasting wine at the cafe and browsing the home store. If you are thinking about trying high tea - do it!!!

True Fine dining experience. Quiet atmosphere, perfect for an anniversary or special occasion. The food is always perfect. One of my favorite parts of going to Ferrington house is the grounds. It is surrounded by the beautiful farm and gardens.

Ambiance is nice - a bit stuffy and reminds me of my grandmother's house in smell and music taste. Truly, every time I walked in the restaurant, I was immediately transported back to my grandparents' house. The servers are very lovely and kind, always checking in and looking to help make your visit better. Unfortunately, the food is really overrated and overpriced - in general and for the quality. The breakfast is complimentary with your stay, which is great because it's really just okay. It's good, but I'd be very frustrated to pay $25 for that breakfast. The eggs Benedict was just fine, but definitely nothing to seek out. The smoothie shots were oddly gelatinous and not flavorful; the chocolate chip muffins had a strange taste, and the croissant honestly tasted like it could have come from any local coffeehouse. Dinner was equally just fine - I got the "pringles" - which was $10 for overly salty puffed air - and the fried chicken, which tasted oddly like a Thanksgiving meal. I will say that the cocktails are delicious! Had a couple house cocktails and a Manhattan and all were very tasty. I would absolutely recommend the inn accommodations (so, SO lovely!), but with the lack of good quality and well-priced food on premises or even nearby, I'm not sure I'll come back.

Premium luxury inn on a former farm with beautiful accommodations, top-notch service and superb dining. Beautiful extensive grounds and quaint upscale retirement village and shops part of the complex. Our favorite place to stay when visiting family in nearby Chapel Hill.

A fancy night. Service is top notch and extremely professional. The ambiance is classy and perfect for a special occasion. The food is excellent- truly one of a kind and very well balanced. We loved every single course.

Went for a birthday tea over the weekend and it was one of the worst teas I've ever had. The location is beautiful, if a bit shabby and the service was okay-- while I understand that they were obviously short-staffed, the food was awful. Everything seemed day-old and the slices of bread for the tea sandwiches were at least 1/2 inch thick-- more appropriate for a club sandwich than a cucumber tea sandwich. The scones were dry and cold. The biscuits had been heated at some point with pimento cheese, but by the time they arrived at our table, they were cold and dried out with crusts of dessicated cheese falling off the edges. If I had paid $10 for the meal per person, that would seem more appropriate. Everything was fairly traditional and then someone had decided to add a black sesame "Opera" cake that resembled nothing that I've ever (thankfully) tasted before. Very disappointing.

Festive and elegant prepared by a real chef with an eye for art-- in a laid back but refined atmosphere. This is a perfect venue for a festive moment, a proposal, anniversary or just enjoying the finer, more elegant things in life like a full chef's menu and assorted flight of wines. The food in the French tradition, presented in successive courses is poetry for the tastebuds, and a feast for the eye. For those who enjoy tasting small but exquisite bites with the occasional wow-- this is a symphony that must be enjoyed with someone special and with time to savor every bite and every dish!

If you like great service and a seasonal menu of expensive bland food, served in a dining room full of judgmental old white people, this is your place. We have been 3 times, and each experience was similar. Excellent service and disappointing meals.

This is one of the most spectacular dinners I have ever had. It was my birthday weekend and my husband wanted to do something special, he were late in making reservations but was told the bar is open seating. *keep in mind the they have a special menu for the bar (Can not do the 3/4 course meal at the bar). The service was amazing and made for an even better experience. We started with the whole wheat spaetzle w/ fall squash & apple, we knew if the starter was this tasty, the the main course was going to be impeccable. Surely we predicted correctly. I have the Scallop toast & fall squash, the toast was the best toast I have ever had ( I wish I knew what the secret behind the toast ). The scallops were cooked perfectly with an incredible taste. I've had a fair share of scallops from different places, but this was done differently. My husband was kind enough to let me try his Flounder with whipped potato, again delicious. I believe everyone must have this kind of experience at least once, it was unforgettably amazing. The Fearrington is also a community with a book store, spa, inn, Coffey and eatery, a farm, and so much more.

Over the decades this has been the go-to place for a truly classy dining experience (bus., aniversaries, holidays) Ferrington Village is small/quaint Easy parking Reserve well in advance.

I went to tea today and it was the worst tea service I have ever had. The cheese was cold and solidified in the middle of the biscuits. The actual tea came 5 minutes after the tower of food arrived. The service was bad and the food was bad. I will never return to eat after this experience. I prefer the Duke Washington inn by FAR!! I am flabbergasted by the cost for such horrible almost inedible food that we left on the tray. I am so disappointed by a place I had previously respected so highly

Five stars always! This place really is a treat. We came here to celebrate a big life event and it did not disappoint. We both did the 4 course option. You pick one of four options from each course. We also both got cocktails which were delicious. My four courses were: tuna, charred octopus, lobster tail, and chocolate soufflé. My partner got: goat cheese, monk fish, ribeye, and sticky toffee. Everything blew us away. The service is exquisite and all of the little apps and breads with special butter were just the cherry on top! I highly recommend this place for a celebratory occasion. They even write personalized menus for special occasions (birthdays, anniversary, congratulations, ect.)

Wonderful atmosphere. Three course meals give time to relax and enjoy the excellent dinner. The salmon was perfect and the steak amazing. We decided to spend our 35 anniversary at the Fearrington Inn. The excellent wine selection added to the meal. The service was perfect

We had a horrible experience! my friend is allergic to dairy so we ordered the $25 burger without the cheese. We were told that there are no modifications. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager said they cannot make an exception. I said this is not a modification. This is simply not put putting something on a burger. I have never been treated so poorly in my life. Is the chef that big of an egomaniac that he can't make a burger without cheese. I have many friends who own restaurants and they say they bend over backwards to accommodate their clientele. Something is very wrong with this scenario and I would advise all of you to ask for a burger without cheese and see what happens!

Was another really impressive tasting menu from fearington although I was surprisingly sober after 3.5 drinks (won't count the bailey's fully of course). First canapés were a red pepper mousse (was rather firmly set) with a pickled pepper and Shallot puree on top and Mont amore (very creamy cheese) gougere. Mousse was solid but was lacking a smidge of salt and a crunch. Gougere was pretty perfect, nice oozy cheese in a great crust. The Amuse Bouche was grilled peaches with some sort of oily barley (in a good way, prolly another flavor there too) with garlic/onion puree and maybe a little pickled Shallot. Really good although my wife likes grilled peaches more than me, the barley and puree both had excellent flavor and it all went well together though. We both got the regular chefs menu but the first vegetarian dish (the Parmesan and Chive Tart) sounded great so we added that too. Very glad we did, one of the best dishes of the night. Crust was so flaky and buttery but also great structure to it, very impressive. The interior was whipped Parm and Chive (very green) with a nice almond crunch occasionally and the celery ribbon, Rhubarb pops and pearl onion tied it together so well. Everything about it was seasoned perfectly, great light texture with the filling too. The real first course was the cured Tuna with pear, spruce, creme fraiche and pomegranate in the form of caviar. Was needing a crunch element but got the bread during it so managed. The pear was diced into similar sizes as the tuna and went well but not the most seasoned dish. Speaking of... the bread and butter is phenomenal there. Whole wheat challah is solid, Parmesan cornbread was delicious but the epi baguette is far and away my favorite. Had seconds but not as much as my normal 3-4 servings. The 2nd course was a beautifully seared lamb with a pistachio crust. The crust was balanced superbly, not too nutty but a great addition to the perfect lamb. I thought the honey mustard was a little strong (maybe horseradish in there) and the peas were great but more for her (kinda mushy almost, I'm not that English in this one regard). The onion added a lot, wish I had gotten more to pair with the lamb but I managed (onion, lamb with crust and jus together was incredible, no mustard though) Oh that scallop. Was amazing, soft interior but caramelized top in brown butter imparted so much flavor. Not that briny but really juicy big boy. The shell was amazing but i didn't care that much for the eggplant layer in between. Didn't notice any pesto but the marscapone underneath was very nice. I'm not a big tomato guy but the oven roasted cherry tomatoes were a huge hit for her, my partners' favorite dish of the night. Sadly the veal was both of our least favorite dish but still some good elements. The veal was not seasoned enough and had almost a pork loin quality to it, the sauce was way too sweet (both the black garlic puree (notice a theme here?) and onion jam didn't balance it at all and the carrots were just fine. I really loved the cheese course, a great creamy slice with some cool elements. The rye- Hazelnut cake/ bread was one of my favorite moments of the night. What looks like a honeycomb was just mustard, looked beautiful but not the best flavor. 6th course (they count the cheese as one even though it's small lol) was a great little bite with raspberry jelly, vanilla whipped cream and a chocolate cake. All pretty perfectly executed and rather cute as well. My favorite dish was the first dessert, so much going on but all worked great together. The Honeysuckle Custard on the bottom had a vaguely floral and sweet edge but was mostly a delicious pudding base. She could write novels about the sesame sugar glass pane on it, I enjoyed it as well but am not the biggest black sesame fan still. There was a little half sphere of white chocolate with a yuzu filling (great contrast and nice to balance out the other elements), some angel food cake and lemon throughout as well. So good The final course was the only one we've had there before, was great as always. Very moist chocolate Soufflé with whipped creme and a rise from the hot chocolate syrup. What more can I say that the picture doesn't do justice? The final plate was pretty solid, smaller than normal but we were both very full for the drive back. A white chocolate ball filled with lemon and raspberry, sea salt caramel, blood orange marshmellow and some shortbread. Nothing too standout but all very good. Easily 5 stars, always worth going. Pricy but worth it for the quality throughout and impressive service

Believe the hype. My darling wife took me here for my birthday and it was an experience I'll remember for a long time. We both remarked that we can't remember when we've had a dining experience that matches it, and we've lived all over the world. We both got the tasting menu, and I was surprised and happy to see that they offer a vegetarian version of the same. Every one of the seven courses was something we hadn't had before. Every one was a tasty adventure, with artful presentation. Our server, Jason, was exemplary in every way: he didn't hover and we didn't feel rushed, but at the same time we never wanted for anything. The prices aren't cheap, but entirely in line with what you would expect to pay for this kind of experience.

After pre paying $260 for 4 people for a Mother's Day tea. We arrived and were told there were "no indoor options", even though 2/3 of the restaurant was empty. We were walked to their event space which was a glorified carport . Our table was in the corner next to stacks of chairs and an empty portable bar, also reaffirming the "garage" feel. After sitting down at a dirty table with crumbs presumably from a previous party, and a table cloth that looked like a straight guys stained wrinkly undershirt, the only thing to focus on was the echo of not a lovely jazz band playing in the corner but rather screaming children that were allowed to run around the space. After we went inside to ask to be moved, we had the displeasure of meeting a very smug manager who smirked and said "well obviously we're quite full, so We can't move you." Again, inside was 2/3 empty. We also asked if they could play some music or something to cover the screaming kids and were told "we don't do that." We went back to the the table and what we got for $260 was repugnant. Any form of bread had obviously been left out since it was prepared possibly the day before. The sandwiches were stale and the insides were room temperature at best. The "sweets" we're what you would expect at the end of an office party, where a layer of condensation had a accumulated on the top making them look like they were sweating. I have a feeling they made dozens of the $200 trays and left them out. I asked for a second tea bag and was told "I'm sorry we can only provide one, but I can bring more water." If you are in the mood for a hot (not the sexy kind of hot) dining experience, complete with ruder service, screaming kids, and bad Costco wedding catering.... Then the $65 per person Mother's Day tea at Fearington Village is for you.

This was one of the most enjoyable dinners we have ever experienced. The service was impeccable, and each course was delicious. The ambience was so romantic and intimate. We can't wait to come back.

Very nice experience. Went with another couple. Had almost everything on the menu between the four of us. We had a gluten allergy and tree nut allergy in the group and they handled these well. The restaurant has 3 course or 4 course options. You choose to have either a 3 course or the 4 then select off the menu to fill the courses. Everything was good. The service was incredible. Dinner took almost 3 hours - almost 45 minutes between our ordering and the first course. Seemed too long. None of the food, though, was incredible. For these prices I was expecting incredible. I can't really call out any of the dishes as better or not as good - everything was good. Now, you are going to pay $300 ish for drinks and dinner for 2. In my opinion, there are better meals for that price elsewhere in the area. So, 4 stars (I debated giving three but the service pulled it up) cause the food was priced where it was and just good. We also had breakfast which is included in the room. Good breakfast but some details were missed - toast was cold. They serve their biscuits cold (in the south?). I have a separate review for the Inn which is incredible. So, if you are staying at the Inn and want to eat here so there's no driving, I get it. BUT, if you are looking for an incredible meal, I'd go elsewhere.

It was a delightful experience with excellent service and delicious food. I was surprised by the portions and found myself incredibly stuffed. In our party of 2, one of us got the 4 course and the other the 3 course. The plating was beautiful and the pacing of the delivery of the food was perfect. Would highly recommend this place for very special occasions!

A lot of foam on the food. Extremely expensive. Small portions like tapas. Stuffy atmosphere. Not our cup of tea so to say. Drinks were great. I would go for a drink and apps.

Such a unique experience! My family and I had a socially distanced 3-4 course meal here, and it truly was mind-blowing. Some of the dishes were not my taste precisely. Others were delicious. However, all of the dishes were designed with such care. I left feeling full and content! My favorite was the chocolate mousse dessert. They poured molten chocolate in the middle and put a dollop of whipped cream on the top table-side. The whisky sour(has raw egg in it) was amazing. It was pricey about $100 per person. So, this really is a meal for a special occasion, like an anniversary.

This is the kind of place you want to take people and make an impression, and it ain't cheap but my goodness it it is a wonderful place to take that loved one, have a wedding where everyone can stay close to each other and then walk over to the restaurant(s) and hang out, the book shop, the coffee shop. or go shopping all with in a short walk. The rooms are very nice and we have stayed here 3 times, we have had High tea, Dinner, breakfast etc and Never been Disappointed. Stay at the hotel and go see the goats, and other animals on the property farm. Take a moment to pamper yourself at the premier places to me in Chaple Hill Area.

My husband and I brought my elderly mom and visiting aunt and uncle to tea at the Fearrington House last Friday. The grounds are beautiful, the staff gracious, and the savories and pastries delicious. However, from start to finish the experience felt as if the restaurant had never before held a tea. We were seated at a too large, bare round table off by itself, in a small alcove void of atmosphere, and sat waiting (there was only one other occupied table) for almost 10 minutes before anyone came by. They forgot silverware, then we noticed there weren't any napkins, then the $98 bottle of champagne we added to the tea was served in wine glasses vs champagne flutes. Rather than two quaint serving stands, one large industrial looking stand held the food, which was almost impossible to reach at the center of the huge, round table, and without a serving utensil, I reached, dragged, and flopped food onto plates; the whole experience was ridiculous and, needless to say, extremely disappointing. Had I actually been able to find a staff member when I went looking at the beginning we might have been able to fix something.

We also went here for a Birthday celebration. The service was excellent but the food was a disappointment. Let me preface this by saying that we have dined in many fine dining places in Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, etc so we have some experience with fine dining. My main complaint was that so much of my food was pureed and extruded to make for an artistic presentation. I usually dine for taste and if I closed my eyes I would not have known what some of the extruded vegetable were. A couple of times I had to reference the menu to reassure myself of what I was supposed to be eating. Nothing that we ate justified the price. We were underwhelmed but had to try it once.

I've been to Fearrington House two times now and it is by far my favorite restaurant in the Triangle area. It is fine dining so expect to dress up, put your phones away, and enjoy the bougie experience that it provides. Warning: it is A LOT of food. We always go for the 4 course option but honestly with all of the *in-between* treats and courses, it is not for the faint of hearts. We are even contemplating getting the 3-course option next time as it may be a little more manageable. The fish is superb and the desserts are off the charts delicious! It is a must if in the Raleigh/Durham area!

Fearrington House Restaurant has a reputation for being one of the nicest restaurants in the triangle region, so my expectations were high going into the evening. We came for a celebratory dinner and we were not disappointed! The restaurant is located adjacent to the main inn - you walk down a dimly lit garden path until you reach an American colonial style white house. Entering inside, you are ushered to the back by the maitre d'. There are a number of small rooms inside, but due to corona regulations, each white tablecloth table is spaced comfortably far from the next. It's a quiet and elegant interior lending to a very sophisticated atmosphere. For the meal, you choose between a 3 course or 4 course meal with a optional wine pairing. We opted for 4 courses and wine pairing and we were very glad we did. In reality, it ends up being more like 7 courses with the many additional amuse bouches and surprise chef courses along the way. Starting the meal, among the first two courses, our favorites included the she-crab salad and the herb-crusted lamb. The presentation of the crab was stunning - the crab was fresh and served with delicious yellow pepper custard squares, a delicate crumble, and a foam over the top. The lamb was also delicious, a nicely cooked medium rare with a unique herb crusting and crispy potato tendrils. For the third course, we were very impressed by both our dishes. I had the scallops with baby carrots and my partner had the duck breast with cherries. The scallops were perfectly cooked, soft with seared edges, almost sweet but not overly so. They were also served with two delicious pureed sauces that I sopped up with every bite. The duck breast was also standout with rich, complex flavors mixing cherry and honey with again perfectly cooked meat. Finally for dessert we enjoyed a pre-dessert chocolate orange mousse courtesy of the chef followed by the chocolate souffle. The presentation was very nice, with the waiter pouring hot chocolate on the souffle and topping it with a dollop of whip cream. My only complaint here is the souffle itself lacked any real bite; it was so soft and airy that it basically melted away in our mouthes. Regarding the wine tasting - each wine is paired with the specific dish. Our sommelier would present each one prior to the next course, and give an explanation of the type of wine and also the notes we should expect to taste during the meal. I had a number of whites to accompany my seafood dishes, while my partner had a number of reds for his meat dishes. We both ended with a sweet port for the dessert. The service was also top notch - every dish was explained and served promptly. The waiters were attentive but not overbearing. They were happy to assist with any additional requests on the way (extra bread etc.). Overall, this is definitely the best restaurant I've been to in the triangle region.The food was delicious and beautifully presented, the progression of dishes was exquisite, the ambience was elegant and refined, and the service was excellent. It was a pricey meal but well worth the experience. Would highly recommend for a celebratory evening.

There's no experience quite like eating at the Fearrington House. Go early for a cocktail (or mocktail!) at the bar before you are seated. Leave time to walk around and explore the village!

Always amazing and the best wine pairing ever! The vegetarian option was outstanding as well.

I had a reservation here for an important event and the scenery alone blew me away. Everything was very elegant. The experience at the Fearrington House was unbelievable. Our servers were excellent and very knowledgeable. The food was out of this world and the night was perfect. Would recommend to anyone for a special event or meeting place. Thank you for having me as a guest at this beautiful place. Will be back soon.

One thing that really set this restaurant a part from any others I've been to in NC was that they had their own sommelier. This was the first time I've had wine pairings that were just perfect. Service was top notch! Food was of course amazing. If you love historical building this is the place for your next special occasion. Beautiful setting with amazing food and spectacular service.

Great dining experience here for Christmas lunch. The menu was exquisite, and allowed me to try different things. My boyfriend and I enjoyed tasting each other's dishes, too. Service was excellent. Definitely a special occasion dining experience!

This is a fantastic special place for dinner. Highly recommend it. They are also able to modify menu items to be gluten free so those of us with dietary restrictions can enjoy a wide variety of dishes.

Always awesome. Completely worth the price tag every time. Fearrington house keeps its reputation by consistently delivering excellent food every time. We have tried a myriad of dishes at fearrington as they change seasonally and we are always wonderfully pleased. The presentation is always well thought out and refined. The flavor combinations are often atypical and wonderfully delightful. They combine traditional and innovative techniques and tastes in the majority of their dishes. We have never had a bad meal here. They are also incredibly accommodating for food allergies. Fearrington is a cornerstone of our fine dining experiences. I would comment on specific dishes but they change seasonally, except the chocolate soufflé, which is likely the best chocolate soufflé I've had in NC.

I can't wait for covid to be done so I can take my mother in law back here so we can have afternoon tea. There's not many places in the triangle area to have afternoon tea. I've had it at umstead and they charge WAY more and have less food than this place. It's such a unique special place.

I definitely should've looked into the menu before eating here because we're simple eaters. But we still went with it and enjoyed all of the different, and very interesting, things served to us. My main complaint was that we did have a new server and instead of things moving in a timely manner, it was almost 3 hours before we were done. I had to ask for the desert to come out promptly and please don't bring the "pallet cleanser" that I saw other table receive before it came. We were ready to get out of there it had been so long. I'm assuming this isn't an ordinary time practice, which is why I still gave 4 stars, but it made it a very daunting experience for us. We chose to not return for breakfast either mornings because of that.

I went here for my girlfriend and I's 5th anniversary dinner and I must say, it was a wonderful experience. From the extremely attentive and knowledgeable staff to the multitude of dishes we experienced with the tasting menu the Fearrington House is a winner for sure! We arrived to an elegantly decorated restaurant that had a touch of old school as well as contemporary - it had a real fireplace in one of the rooms so that's definitely a win. I would though have like to see something unique to break up the elegancy of it all, it all seemed a little too proper in there but that's just me being picky based off other non-chain fine dining restaurants I've been to. As for our dinner, we opted to have the full tasting menu, I the regular one and my girlfriend the vegetarian one (major plus points for having a vegetarian menu entirely). We both thoroughly enjoyed the dishes that came out and each one offered different flavors and taste profiles. I unfortunately don't recall all the items that came through but I did enjoy most all of them. Some were a bit more odd and not to my liking but it's a tasting menu - can't complain. My girlfriend enjoyed her tastings as well but overall had hoped for something more unique in the vegetarian dishes - not to take away from them being wonderful. Overall, the menu was fantastic and a good display of culinary artistry, but I wish there was a bit more uniqueness to the items on the menu, something bold and different. I also felt that the price of it all was a bit too high compared to what I got at other fine dining establishments. Nonetheless, would I recommend this to a fellow friend? Absolutely! Fearrington is a wonderful restaurant with amazing service and the prefect place for night out away from the bustle of Chapel Hill.
