"A good pub can be a hub of the community, and so it is with this warm, welcoming inn set on a steep hill in the centre of a characterful village. The menus incorporate some international touches, but at heart the cooking is traditional, gutsy and proudly local. Ingredients ranging from roe deer to fresh fruit come from the surrounding area; look out for choices like beef flank cooked in ale if you're after something particularly rich and hearty." - Michelin Inspector

A proper pub worth booking into. If you can, ask for a seat near the bar that's where the buzz is - locals chatting, glasses clinking, the atmosphere alive. The snug is cosy, but a little too quiet if you want the full character. We started with a generous meat platter, then partridge for mains - not my usual pick, but that's the fun of trying something new. The staff? Warm, witty and the kind that turn a meal into a memory. By 9pm the village slept in darkness, but The Feathers glowed on - a lighthouse in the night.✨

Fantastic meal. Just wandered up from the local campsite and very surprised to find superb local food cook to perfection. It really was very very good…

Beautiful quality food always cooked to perfection. Literally everything is homemade too which is so lovely. It’s not ‘cheap’ but the prices are really good and worth it for how good the food is. Make sure you book ahead though! So so worth a visit.

Really enjoyed our visit here. The food was excellent and the service really good. Parking was a little confusing as it's not signposted (that I could see) - you can park on the road or there's very limited parking just to the left as you turn into the pub's grounds. It was a cosy and inviting experience on a windy and damp January.

Outstanding Sunday lunch! What a lovely little pub. Very welcoming, friendly & attentive staff. Great portion sizes and top quality food. Could not find a fault. 100% recommend, we will definitely return!

Been meaning to come here for ages, and a visit in the morning to Cherryburn (the engraver Thomas Bewick's home, a few minutes' drive away) was the perfect excuse. Lived up to all the positive recommendations we'd heard. Sat outside, undercover, which was the ideal setting. Service was very friendly and efficient. Food excellent - pigeon for me, trout for my wife. All-in-all a really nice place in a village with some amazing views across the Tyne Valley. Possibly we were lucky to find a parking space virtually outside, but there's spaces further down the road. Not the cheapest place, but very good value for money because it offers a really enjoyable meal in a pleasant environment. Will be back, no excuse needed!

Check the menu online, it's definitely not traditional pub grub, in fact it's quite spectacular. Most if not all the ingredients are locally sourced and cooked to perfection. The pub itself is small and you park on the roadside but it is very busy and you should definitely book to avoid disappointment. Everything was lovely and clean and all the staff were very helpful, pleasant and polite.

Yelp
Exceptionally fine, traditional pub with delicious food and well kept ales. There are two bars with the larger one used mainly for dining. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the ambiance is cosy with real fires and is blissfully music-free. All the food is sourced locally, as are the cask ales. All the awards are well deserved and testament to a well run hostelry. A real gem.

Yelp
I was lucky enough to visit The Feathers in December 2016 for the wedding of some of our dearest friends. It was foggy and cold which all added to the cosiness and charm of the place. The pub has two rooms with wood burning fires in each, the bar is in between and accessible from both. Inside it's cosy and traditional. This place has been here for centuries and the history seeps out of the walls. The four cask ales are mostly local. There were a couple of Mordue beers on when we were here - Workie Ticket being a favourite - and a couple from a bit further away, all nice. The star of the place is the food however. As this was a wedding reception the food was delivered in tasting bowls (there wasn't enough space to seat everyone for a traditional meal) one course at a time. So much great food! A winter salad with poached pear, caramelised walnut and blue cheese was a revelation. The mussels excellent and the rarebit appetiser so perfectly done. The mains were wonderful too. Winter veg mash with huge hunks of beef in rich gravy, aromatic and moist kedigree, spelt risotto and a unique game sauerkraut with bockwurst. Then came the desserts! Local creme brulee (Burnt Northumberian Cream on the menu) was stunning, as was the sponge, the mince pie inspired tart and the mountain of cheese. If you're a foodie you'll love this place. Just try and get a reservation first!
