Where to Eat in Denver’s LoHi Neighborhood | Eater Denver

"Old Major’s tagline was “Seafood, Swine, & Wine”; Corrida in Boulder is a swanky steakhouse. Having served as chef at both, Amos Watts brings those experiences to bear on his contemporary American debut venture in the former Old Major space. Go all out with the three-course prix fixe or do a la carte nibbles at the bar; either way, indulgences abound, from the tallow candle bread service to Wagyu tartare with truffles to blue crab–and–sea urchin spaghetti." - Josie Sexton

Where to Celebrate Special Occasions in Denver | Eater Denver

"While grand seafood towers and the likes of 50-day dry-aged bone-in strip loin up the ante for extravagance, everything that Amos Watts — the talented chef/owner of this elegantly rustic contemporary American retreat in LoHi — puts on a plate showcases his knack for complex, sophisticated flavor combinations. Try the green-chile sausage–and–goat cheese ravioli in squash butter sauce with eggplant-tomatillo caponata or short rib atop a garlic-chive pancake with red-miso gyu-dare jus, charred snow peas, pickled ginger, and truffled tamari. Cocktails are equally smart." - Eater Staff

New favorite restaurant!! Wow! The ambiance is sexy and intimate, I haven’t heard of any of the cocktail concoctions they had (which I appreciate) I had the espresso martini from the menu. Each dish is beautifully composed, with the option to add on oysters or seafood. We started with the cheese appetizer that they light on fire in a mini cast iron skillet. Our server spoke way to fast and we had to consistently ask what she had just said (weird… slow down lol). Amazing place and I can’t wait to go back

Wonderful meal, loaded with flavor. Beef carpaccio is layered with so many flavors & textures. Oysters were completely polar opposite from each other - east coast oysters were little & sweet. West coast oysters were savory and meaty. The oysters had a lovely presentation with a delicious topping selection. Staff was great at accommodating my dietary needs. Scallops were cooked with the perfect sear, I really loved the veggies, but I think the oyster mushrooms should leave the dish. My husband said the wagyu beef meatballs, were rich in flavor. He would have liked a few more gnocchi on the dish. The house made bread & fresh butter he said was good. Bonus: There is off street parking after 5pm.

HOLY SH!T. How is this place not the busiest in Denver?!? Best meal I have had in Denver yet. Chef and bar crew went WAY above and beyond with allergies, and made a point to say they take allergies as a challenge and fun option not a burden (wow, seriously? A blessing). The drinks and the food were incredible. The tallow candle perhaps the most fun and inventive despite being just the option for bread to start—really set the bar high! Chef brought out more bread with the “Gems” salad—also whoah…it has no business being this delicious?!?! We got the chicken and short ribs both sans dairy and wow—if these options were on the menu all the time we wouldn’t have asked questions before ordering. We paired dinner with a natural orange wine that’s so new it was off menu, but a perfect calm wine pairing to highlight the food without overpowering and yet compliment it more—hat’s off to the wine crew! The dessert we were again pleasantly surprised by how rich a non-dairy orange chocolate sorbet could be! Paired with a Negroni twist and the chai cocktail on menu it was SO GOOD! Seriously cannot wait to take friends here from out of town as it’s one of the first non-taco spots that I want to recommend and the food plus drinks were out of this world.

Google
Delicious and with solid wine options. No chefs menu but every dish was delicious. Great service with good explanations of each dish. Would like to see more specials; hoping for seasonal menu rotation. Will definitely try again.

This place was next level- the portions are small but don't over do it! We got triple apps and almost couldnt eat the amazing steak and scallops! Maybe could have skipped the cheese on fire - it was good but not as unique as most other dishes. Overall great service, top quality dishes, and great drinks! Worth the top dollar prices!

We’ve wanted to dine here for months, so we were very excited to celebrate a 40th birthday at Fifth String. The atmosphere was incredible and that’s where it ended, with the exception of the tallow candle. That was unique and delicious. The cocktails were also pretty great, but the bubble-trouble mocktail was sweeeeeet and childish. Nobody wants a big scoop of bubblegum sherbet in their drink. The seafood tower did not match the price. The best part was the oysters and the crab salad. The clam ceviche was awkward at best with little flavor. The shrimp were not fully shelled and served with a avocado purée so there was no variance of texture just one-note and mushy. Pappardelle had such potential but was boring, flavorless and had hardly any promised veggies; people order this for the morels, put in the morels!! The salmon itself was cooked well, the rest of the dish was a pure salt lick. The filet and bone marrow had a nice cook on the meat, but again very salty. The short rib was the fattiest any of us have ever had and the sauce was awkward. I don’t have a better word and the pops of pickled veggies didn’t work. It’s like someone said their dishes needed acid and they took that far too literally. The chicken matza ball did was just awful. The matza was terribly underwhelming and dry, the chicken-one piece dry the other borderline undercooked so we didn’t even eat it. The carpaccio had potential and was good flavor-wise but had crispy edges like it was out on the counter for hours. It was spicy which was a nice surprise.

Went there randomly with some friends. Everyone that we interacted with from the host to our server (Tyler) was so awesome & nice. We originally were only stopping in for drinks but those where so good & the food menu was so interesting we decided to stay for dinner. Pretty much the best choice would could have made. Everything was phenomenal!! It was probably one of the best meals I've ever had. We had a great time & loved everything we ordered. We all ordered different things & kinda shared them. We are already trying to plan a trip back.

Google
I'd say 4.5 stars. There is a free parking lot on the side of the building which is awesome! I was greeted right away when I walked in and seated with my party. The service was great...friendly and quick. I enjoyed the cocktail that was recommended by the server (yuzu enjoy me). It was adventurous for us, but had to try the tallow candle bread service. It was good with the herbs they put in there. My friends said they could taste the beef flavor, but I didn't necessarily notice it. I don't remember the name of my dish, but it was a crab and lobster curry. It was okay, but I didn't love it (might be more my taste versus the quality of the dish). It was a little spicy for me, but the servers kept my water filled, which is lacking at a lot of places these days. The dessert menu looked good, but we didn't have any this time. They do put a 6% service charge on the bill.

Yelp
We decided to come back for another dinner. It was a cold, snowy night in Denver so we were only one of two tables in the restaurant, which was a bit strange. The service was great but this time the food was just a miss. The menu seems smaller, not sure if it's because they are in a temporary location, but personally speaking, LoHi was a better spot and they should have stayed there. The wine menu was OK but they had some really expensive wines by the glass that didn't impress me. We started with the Little Gems salad, which was probably the best item we ate that night. The dressing was balanced, delicate, and a great combo of flavors with the crunchy lettuce. Then we got the Yuzu Lemongrass Broth, all I tasted was salt, no other flavors. The first time it came out was room temp, so they reheated it and served it in two bowls for us since we were sharing. The veggies were fresh, but I didn't care for this dish. Then we got the Caramelized Onion and Black Truffle Risotto, also very heavy on the salt instead of using it to bring out flavor it was drowning it. The dish was otherwise rich and hearty and the mushrooms were great. Finally, we got the crab cake. This was a disaster. They poured a bisque all around it which made it soggy and mushy. The crab cake in itself was mediocre, it wasn't lump crab meat and it just didn't have that fresh flavor. I get it, the crab comes from somewhere but this was not great. One crab cake for the price was also over the top, so it needs to be perfect. Was a bummer since the first time was a much better experience.

Yelp
I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to come here! Now one of my top favorite restaurants in denver. It's THAT good. They brought out complementary bubbles because we were celebrating my husbands bday! We sat in the bar area at a high top (make a reservation online) and they had indoor outdoor dining with open doors which made it perfect for dining during these summer nights! We started with the beets and burrata and the cauliflower. Both had the best textures and complementary flavors. I think the cauliflower was the best fried cauliflower I've had. It was orangey but not overpowering and definitely had a sweet heat. So delish. We also shared the filet and bone marrow and it was divine. Worth the splurge! The bone marrow was buttery and bursting with flavor and the filet was perfectly cooked and had a nice reduction to add more flavor. We ended dinner with dessert and their take on an espresso martini (mezcal forward, very strong and had hints of chili), very unique and worth a try. The star here was the butter cake. Holy moley. It has a brûléed top which makes it crunchy and the cake and lemon curd were so creamy and the berry compote made it the perfect summer dessert. Drooling thinking about it! Service was incredible. We got fresh plates and silverware with every order and the staff was very attentive. This is an upscale restaurant with great service and incredible food. We can't wait to come back! Also - checkout the happy hour deals! So happy we found out about that so we can come back! Give the fifth string a try - you will be so happy you did! Free street parking around.

Yelp
Food service ambience. You have it all. A little tricky to find since the restaurant is in a winery but totally worth it.

Yelp
It's all about the Tallow. Quite literally, this is why we decided to dine here. Now, the husbeast loved the tallow. It's rich but not like marrow or pâté. It's more light. Soak it up with bread and it's just a great app. There was only two of us and it was a little tough to finish. Recommend for 3 or 4. We also had the Saganaki appetizer that they flambé at the table. It was a good salty rich cheese. Main entrees, I had the scallops - obvi cooked perfectly. The husbeast had the 6oz center cut medium rare. Also cooked perfectly. Like butter. No room for dessert. However a digestif and dessert would also be a good option for a lte evening. Pro-tip: this is in the highlands. No need to even say it anymore just ride share.

Yelp
I have been to Fifth String for dinner 3x now and for brunch 1 time, all the pictures in this post are from brunch. What I love most about Fifth String is the attention to detail in the food and drink at every level. From presentation to taste, to overall composure. The second is the intimate setting, the bar area and high tops are my preferred seating but the general restaurant seating is nice too and provides you a view of the kitchen. For dinner the tallow candle is a delightful start (not pictured) and the bread is amazing, with the perfect crispy crust and the most pillowy soft inside. Also their ravioli will leave your mouth watering and contemplating ordering another plate. I recently went to Fifth String for brunch and the menu while small is mighty. I personally prefer when a restaurant removes my plethora of options especially while hungover. Speaking of being hungover, their bottomless mimosa (and Bellini) option is a bit expensive for the time limit, it is $20/45 minutes. And honestly at that rate you are either getting hammered in 45 min to get your money's worth or you are paying the same amount you would if you were paying for each one. Hands down my favorite thing I ate at brunch was the donut. It seems so simple and unassuming but the thought of that delightful donut has followed me since I tried it. With its delightfully light and sweet glaze with the sweet chewy dough inside and served at the perfectly slightly warm temperature. Next time I will be ordering one just for myself, sharing be damned. I also had their version of biscuits and gravy and it was good but definitely overshadowed by that memory imprinting donut. I do think that the biscuits and gravy needed a dash of their house made hot sauce to bring it to the next level, which I obviously did. Again attention to composure on the dish really made it stand out. If you are looking for a dinner or brunch for someone with slightly fancier tastes I have to recommend Fifth String it is bound to impress.

Yelp
We have gone a few times because of how good the food and service are! We went for a birthday and got free champagne and told happy birthday but just about every person that worked there. The bread for candle bread service wasn't quite ready yet, so they gave us a complimentary loaf of focaccia bread for free. The bread for candle Everyone is knowledgeable on the menu and wine offerings. The Scallops are some of the best I've had in denver. All of the flavors paired so well together. I prefer to sit near the bar/patio vs inside. It's more "lively" by the patio and inside is more romantic/date night vibe. Really can't recommend the fifth string more!

Yelp
The service is one of the best, they truly make you feel like a VIP. First of all, my coat tag read 007 and it was quite special. Then the Tallow Candle Bread really felt like a "Service." I loved dipping the bread in the melted cow fat; would not have hesitated asking for second helpings if it was softer and a "regular" loaf instead of sourdough... My Seared New England Sea Scallops was top notch. Every bite is 5-stars. I think even my friend gave up finishing her entree so she could have some of mine. Hubby's Chive and Black Pepper Gnocchi had a little too much black pepper; but it's in the name, after all. The gnocchi was nicely made (I believe in house?) as it had just the right amount of chewiness. Overall a great night here. Parking can be a little tight.

Yelp
We couldn't wait to try this new concept, and overall the experience was okay. The food was good, fresh and had some unique flavors. Staff were friendly, attentive and very accommodating. The restaurant has a neat vibe as well. That being said, the prices are absolutely outrageous. Yes, we're all aware of the inflationary pressure on wholesale food prices, however $38 for a green chili sausage ravioli. Really? The "main dishes" part of the menu was boring and lacks creativity. Two expensive steaks and a chicken dish. Half a chicken for $49! I almost fell out of my chair. Won't rush back. Was hoping for a regular spot in our neighborhood, but this isn't it.

Yelp
Impressive cuisine, enjoyable beverages, and prompt service. The ambiance is lively. While it may be on the pricey side, the quality matches the cost. One thing I appreciate is that the main courses are well-rounded, eliminating the need to pay extra for sides or dressings after already splurging on a $65 steak. I highly recommend trying the barramundi and the bread + tallow candle; both were absolutely delightful. Although not featured in the photos, the center cut fillet steak we ordered was possibly one of the best we've had recently. It was flawlessly prepared, superbly paired with sides, and simply melted in our mouths. The butter lemon cake for dessert was a heavenly conclusion to our meal.

Yelp
We have yet to make it to the dinner menu (it is a little pricey), but their happy hour is one of the best in town! All food is farm to table and features a lot of dishes with vegetables grown right in the chef's garden. There wasn't anything I didn't like but the oysters, roast beef sandwich, and tater tots are my favorites of all. We've always had great service when we've been as well.

Yelp
Simply wonderful spot for a nice dinner. Came here for my bachelorette weekend and was impressed from beginning to end with the impeccable service, ambience and food. When we arrived for our 8 PM reservation we were told our table wasn't ready yet - we ended up waiting for about 20-25 minutes which normally would be super annoying. However, we were given champagne, bread and their AMAZING tater tots to munch on while we waited. One of the chefs Amos also introduced himself to me while I waited. It was a nice gesture and him and the servers kept checking in and apologizing which totally wasn't needed but they went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. When we were finally seated, we proceeded to order several dishes, each one very impressive. We got a large seafood tower, and every single bite of seafood was superb, at peak freshness. We also got the hamachi crudo, scallops, octopus and bone marrow spaghetti, gnocchi, and ravioli. Each dish was very good - however the best dish of the night were the scallops. I can think of one other time in my life that I had the best scallops I've ever had, and I think this dish tied with that one. If it is on the menu you MUST order this. We ended up getting several desserts as well - peach sorbet, chocolate pot de creme and the butter cake. The butter cake was EXTREMELY delicious, with an excellent lemon curd to pair with. Overall superb meal - I will say one small downside was that the AC was blasting on us the entire night and we were all freezing by the end (it was about 80-90 degrees out too) so if they could just adjust that then this place would be perfect.

Yelp
The Fifth String has taken over what used to be Old Major in the Highlands and if there is a Sleeper of the year award, I am giving it to them! I hadn't heard much about this spot, but if the Yelp reviews can tell you anything, it's that it is worth 5 WHOLE stars - and who am I to argue with my fellow Yelpers?? First, their cocktails are TOP TIER. I tried a couple: Yuzu Enjoy Myself with Japanese whisky, yuzu puree and egg white and the Blood Orange Crush with mezcal, fireberry tea, spiced blood orange - inventive and all DELICIOUS. Second, the food! Their menu is simple - some great, fresh seafood, steak, pasta. There was not one bite I did not enjoy: Tallow Candle Bread Service - a candle made out of rendered beef fat and seasoned with herbs and fleur de sel is brought to the table with fantastic, housemade bread. This is a zero waste product and everything is edible except for the flame! Delicious and unique. Wagyu Steak Carpaccio - this is some of the best carpaccio I've had in town. Chili crunch, pine nuts, harrisa aioli, thai basil, ramp kimchi, picled ramps, olive oil - it may SOUND like there's too many things on top of the shaved wagyu, but trust me IT WORKS. 12oz Wagyu Flatiron - cooked perfectly medium rare served with potato mille fuielle, charred onions, kombu-beef jus, chanterelles and spinach. Don't sleep on those sides, they were also just as good as that steak. I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant- not to mention the service was just incredible. Everyone was approachable and knowledgeable and so warm and inviting. I am DREAMING of a brunch here one day - I think they had it at one point, but don't anymore. I just KNOW that menu will be ridiculous. Either way, can't wait to get back in here!

Yelp
If you're looking for a great farm-to-table restaurant with high quality ingredients but not in a stuffy fine dining setting, then The Fifth String is your place to be! It's located in the trendy LoHi neighborhood so parking is iffy but doable on the streets. You walk via a velvety curtain to a small host stand, and there's a big bar to the left and the dining room on the right. The space is very industrial & the lighting is perfect! The menu is small but well prepared, as there's certainly a dish to meet everyone's needs & they have a raw bar too. Service was great too (hey we went on a Tuesday with very few people so we got a lot of attention). They have an excellent selection of wines & craft cocktails, all very well curated! The wine & apps took the cake though, read more: Appetizers: After we got a couple bottles of reds and began our journey through the menu... we started with the tallow candle & housemade bread, and OMG this was maybe my favorite thing of the night! They turn their beef bones into tallow candles, burn them at the table & you dip the bread into the salty melty tallow with a bit of fresh herbs. They also brought some fresh salted butter & replenish the bread as you need. We also loved the wagyu carpaccio that was topped with crunchy pine nuts, chilis, & ramps (onions). I had never tried it but the saganaki (flaming cheese with raspberry habanero jam) was so interesting & delicious. Entrees: Since we were already full & happy on our appetizers, we decided to get a few things and share them - the tri tip was perfectly seasoned & I loved the chive pancake below it. The most upsetting dish was the bone-in half chicken with matzo balls; it was soooo bland.. the chicken skin was perfectly crispy but it really lacked any flavor, despite chicken jus drizzled on the whole dish. The steaks were the best, by far, as my coworker loved her filet. Desserts: The chocolate peanut butter pot de creme is so smooth, not too sweet, and absolutely delicious! The butter cake was impressive too & very nostalgic. The gorgonzola tart was really offputting; way too much gorgonzola and not enough sweet.. felt like it belonged on the appetizer menu. But the other tasty desserts made up for it :) All in all, the whole experience was wonderful... although the chicken needed more flavor, there are many other dishes that really wowed us. Great job chef & the team at The Fifth String, we will be back soon!

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had in Denver in a minute. The flavors? Get out of here. They butcher in house and use that for the tallow bread service. A must order. The saganaki, wagyu carpaccio along side of it was just ridiculous. Ended with the tri tip which was mouthwatering. Come hungry. Leave happy.

Yelp
Great experience, great food, great service. Bar manager (Stefan, the first of his name(inside joke)) was covering for his sick co-worker with the same spirit as any new daytime bartender. I had the fried cheese omelette and it was fantastic. Chef Amos came out to check on us personally. I would say conversations with both Stefan and Chef Amos drip with the appropriate amount of sarcastic comedy. They kept the nostalgia of Old Major while making it their own brand. Bottomless option made it also a great call. Obviously, given the name of the place, the music was an excellent vibe add. Ask for the special hot sauce from the back, and it comes out in a medicine like DROPPER. Awesome call.

Yelp
Service here is too notch! My water was never empty, our server wanted to make sure we genuinely enjoyed our food, and everyone's enthusiasm made the dinner very pleasant! The beef tar tar had an egg on top which I've never tried with before, but it was fun! A good start. The bread service was very unique. Only time where it's safe to eat the candle wax since it's made out of beef fat I believe. Our waitress was so kind to offer to pack the rest home so that we can use it to cook with! My fiancé loved his dish, and I got the blue crab and sea urchin spaghetti. My spaghetti was good, but it didn't blow my mind as much as the other dishes and I didn't think it fit the price for what I got. Not bad, but not heavenly either. Would come back to try other appetizers and shared plates.

Yelp
4.5 stars. My friend Monica has a knack for discovering restaurants in Denver that have a prie fixe menu. There were 3-4 of us when we had dinner one Friday evening. The service, food, and drinks were all amazing!! Would love to try this place one more time and boost my review to a solid 5 stars. Street parking is usually challenge in this area, but I took an Uber anyways. I started with a delicious New Age cocktail. I think I'd just come from happy hour, so I stopped there. Outside the prie fixe menu, we got the tallow candle bread, which was so cool!! Candle made out of butter? Genius. For dinner, I had the mussels, some sort of bolognese with wagyu beef, and a pear tart. All the dishes looked pretty and Instagrammable. Love the classy atmosphere. Get dressed up and make a reservation here, whether you're on a date or hanging with friends. Apparently they serve brunch, which I'd be down to come back and try. My favorite dishes were the mussels and pasta, though the tallow candle bread is a must. Can't quite put my finger on the missing 1/2 star, but I'll 100% return to find out!!

Yelp
Came her for my friends birthday and had such lovely dinner! They brought us drinks to toast - with a non-alcoholic option- to start. We ordered the bread tallow and it was AMAZING! Oysters were fresh and delicious. I had the steak and it was cooked to perfection. The scallops were also yum! Everything was well priced and portioned. Our server was knowledge and diligent. I couldn't recommend this place more! We'll be back for sure!!

Yelp
Magnificent, unique, delectable! I had read the amazing reviews and studied the menu and photos for the last month leading up to my birthday dinner here with my husband. Believe me, the experience did not disappoint! They sat us at a corner table behind the bar, it was dimly lit, private, and spacious. They knew it was my birthday from the reservation notes, and they brought us both glasses of champagne as a gift. I might add, good champagne! We started with cocktails. I had the bee pollen cocktail and my husband had the "Yuzu Enjoy Myself." Both were so delicious, not too sweet or syrupy, just super fresh with delicate flavors. Possibly my favorite item was the Tallow Candle Bread Service. They bake their baguette (perfectly crusty then soft in the inside) served with a candle made of rendered duck fat. You dip your bread in the melted fat, and there are fresh herbs and salt on the plate. We could not stop ourselves, it was so delicious! We had the Hamachi Crudo and a half-dozen raw oysters as our first course. Both were perfection. The Crudo tasted so smooth and the accoutrements were out of this world good (papadam, cucamelon, ice plant, gazpacho consomme). The oysters were both the Pacific Northwest as well as Northeast. I think I preferred the Northwest oysters, but they were all amazing. I especially loved the chef-made hot sauce in a dropper bottle, the chef grows his own peppers (I think it involves ghost pepper as well other varietals) and was glorious! We got a bottle to take home. Next, we shared the Delicata Squash, which was perfectly roasted and tasted almost meaty. I devoured it. We also shared the Saganaki, which is a specialty cheese that comes in a small cast iron that they light on fire. For our main, we shared the prime filet which came a miso glaze. It was cooked perfectly and the glaze was exceptionally good. We each had a glass of the Domaine Lafage with this course, and it paired beautifully. Finally, we had the butter cake for dessert. Of course, it was wonderful. The service was exceptional. Everyone was so attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive. We were very impressed. The chef came out to speak to someone while we were there, and he came across as super nice. We will definitely return! I plan to bring loved ones here whenever I have visitors, it was a truly special dining experience.

Yelp
This was an amazing spot!!! Cozy cabin chic vibes with some of the best food I've had in denver. We ordered almost everything on the menu, but my favorites were the candle butter, saganaki, and tri tip!!!

Yelp
This was hands down one of the best dinners we've had in Denver in the 7 years we've lived here. The food and service were absolutely lovely across the board. Highlights: the tallow candle is a must, the risotto was quite spectacular, and the chef even manages to make a baby gem salad really special. Both desserts were a hit (panna cotta and chocolate almond cake). We scraped every plate clean. Very much looking forward to bringing friends when the restaurant moves to their new East Denver location.

Yelp
I've been here twice now and both times it was incredible and our server Lauren was amazing!! Easily my new favorite restaurant in Denver. It's underrated but I could not recommend it more. Oysters and seafood are extremely fresh! Love the homemade hot sauce and mignonette that come with the oysters! Cocktails and unique and fun. Highly recommend the butter washed drink. Any alcohol that is fat or butter rinsed/washed is a sure fire way to impress your tastebuds. For food ask your server. They know what's best. We basically let our servers pick our meals and I'm never disappointed. 10/10 experience, food - would recommend

Yelp
Amazing environment. Beautiful wood buildout. Staff worked so well together during our dining experience. It was my boyfriends birthday and they brought us a small glass of complimentary champagne to toast with! We started with cocktails, the Wagyu Steak Carpaccio and the Tallow Candle Bread Service. We ordered Seared New England Sea Scallops and Squid Ink Spaghetti for our mains. Every bite was delicious and we will be back. Music was very good and seemed to be a mix between Khruangbin and Leon Bridges!

Yelp
Great food in a great ambiance, either inside or outside you'll have a really fun delicious experience. We grabbed a greenhouse outside and worked our way through the menu. I like their prix fixe option which gives you the opportunity to sample some of their best dishes at a reasonable price. But I'd definitely recommend veering off and also ordering the bone in ribs. Definitely fall of the bone and great flavor. We also ordered the tallow candle bread, a salad, and the pork katsu. Nothing but positive things to say about all the food. Their cocktails are also pretty unique so make sure to sample a few; I only had the smoked old fashioned, but from what everyone else at the table said, all the drinks were on point. A great find for a night out!

Yelp
Had the most amazing time here last night. Dined in a heated greenhouse. I brought a blanket just in case it was too cold but it was pretty nice and toasty inside. The atmosphere beautiful (even in a greenhouse) and the service was top notch. At one point my friends jacket got...burnt on the outdoor heater and the manager and waiter apologized profusely even though we were the ones who should have watched our belongings. We started with the candle bread service (candle js beef fat that slowly melts into a plate of salt and herbs). Drinks through out the night were flowing and my husband really enjoyed the cocktails. Beef carpaccio was delicious. A must get. I can eat 3 of them as a meal. The lamb sausage came with the zesty creamiest sauce. To end the night we had the chocolate brownie. Nothing too out of the ordinary but decadent nonetheless. I can't stress how delicious this place was. The manager (I believe gene) really went above and beyond. Can not wait to come back. When we were leaving we heard laughter in the other greenhouses. No doubt enjoying their time here as well.

Yelp
We can't thank Natalie enough for the exceptional service. She was an excellent server and she's a sommelier! She gave so much information when we had questions on food, cocktails, wine pairings, etc. Her pairing of wine for our dinner was great and she gave us complimentary champagne toasts for my birthday guest. The wagyu carpaccio was delicious and a rather good portion. We also enjoyed the filet and presentation. Hamachi was a small portion but food is honestly still great, and for it being farm to table, the prices reflect it but the food is well thought out and desserts were delicious! I would come back here and request Natalie again. Thank you so much for making the evening so special, the restaurant is lucky to have you.

Yelp
First time dining at the fifth string and I'll def be back! Food and service was some of the best quality I've had in denver. I came for dinner on a Wednesday night and sat at one of the high tops near the bar (the ambience here felt right!) We were quickly greeted by our server who was also a WSET level 3 sommelier! We immediately put in the tallow bread order (must have) and a Cabernet franc. For our starter, we got the colorado wagyu carpaccio. Unique flavor, and very strong. For entrees I got the wagyu meatball gnocchi, also very rich in flavoring and my brother got the scallops with risotto which was more delicate in flavor. I'd definitely go back and order the same things as it was all amazing. The chef came by at the end to ask how everything was. Highly recommend the fifth string for a nice dinner out in lohi!

Yelp
The service was amazing, and the ambiance was great, but the plates were a little pricey. We ordered Tallow Candle Bread Service and The Seafood Full Tower which were our favorite, but the main course was ok. We went the Friday before for San Valentine's Day, and we got complementary Champagne, the craft cocktails were delicious, they had a good balance of ingredients and alcohol. All things considered this is a good place for a date night, and I would definitely go again. This restaurant is located in Downtown Denver.

Yelp
Had a wonderful brunch here! Ordered the cheese omelet and grapefruit rose drink (how can you go wrong) and enjoyed it. Will definitely be back for dinner sometime.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Fresh farm to table cuisine! The sangria was great too. Highly recommend the fish and chicken main courses! I would have taken a photo but I ate it too quick! Service was awesome- and our water glasses were never empty. I brought my friend from Baltimore and she loved it as well. Would not stop raving about the ambiance!!! I will be back!

Yelp
Brunch, not The Fifth's String's thing. Very limited number of entrees. There were more brunch drink choices than food. If you need vegan options, you won't be happy. If you need gluten-free, they have gluten-free bread for toast. The fried cheese omelette was pretty flavorless. The avocado toast also pretty flavorless. Overall, a disappointing brunch, other than the service, which was very good. There are too many other brunch options in Denver to choose The Fifth String.

Yelp
This place took the spot where Old Major used to be. I wasn't excited to just have "another new american place" at first, but after we tried it, I'm convinced it has earned its spot. :) We came here for one of the greenhouse prix fixe meals, and weren't disappointed. We tasted a variety of their courses, from carpaccio to fish to pasta - they do it all very well! They were super accommodating; we went for this meal in January, and they had space heaters for each of the greenhouses. It made it very comfortable. The staff was kind & helpful.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! Second time being here with my wife and mother in law and we loved every second of it. The ambiance was great, the food was perfect, the service was wonderful, and the wine was on point. Anyone coming to the Northside has to come here!

Yelp
This is a lovely American/seafood restaurant with a laidback but elegant atmosphere. There are two options for how to approach the menu - you can order a la carte or do a 3 course pre fixe. We actually opted to do both (it was great that not everybody had to do the same thing). Our waiter was helpful advising us on which dishes to choose and was attentive throughout the meal. To start, we had the tallow candle bread service. This was so cool, I've never seen anything like it. Basically they served an edible candle that melted into butter after it was lit to accompany a warm and freshly baked baguette roll. Other favorite dishes included the colorado wagyu steak carpaccio which was divine and the sea scallops on creamed corn. I'd advise skipping the chilled maine lobster (a really small portion for the price and honestly not that tasty) and the wagyu agnolotti (the pasta itself was quite thick and could probably been cooked a minute or two more). We ended with a chocolate toffee cake that was a great sweet end to the meal. Overall, the ambience is very welcoming, the wait staff were attentive, and the food had some real highs. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
Wonderful, super friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere, and amazing food. What more can we ask for on the first night of visiting Denver? Solid Hendricks martini, no complaints here. When you taste every dish here, its like you can taste the months of preparation and years of experience of sweats and tears. Bravo to the chef whom we had the chance to meet! Scallop ceviche - not quite like your usual ceviches. This one was unique. Fresh and naturally sweeten scallops on a bed of sweet potato purée combined with a touch of olive oil. It was divine indeed. Great dish to begin with! Steak wagyu carpacicco - flavor bomb! Such a unique taste that I'll be dreaming about. Definitely another must try. It's so tasty that it could be too salty. I'd recommend asking for a side of bread to accompany it with. Matsutake broth - perfect for a cold day. The broth was prepared for hours and each sip just warms up your soul. What we love about this dish is that each different veggie gives off a different taste and texture while pairing with the rich broth. Very well made. New England sea scallops - this dish took awhile to come out, we were wondering if they went to New England to catch but it was definitely worth the wait. Perfectly textured scallops (but a bit too salty for our taste) paired with a seafood galore jambalaya. Yum yum yum! Shrimps, crawfish, andouille sausages, that hint of lemon (thought it was closer to a risotto). Regardless, a great entree to share! This restaurant is about 9 weeks old and we're so glad we found it now because there will sure be a line around the block next time we come back! Definitely on its way to the Michelin guide soon and we will definitely recommend The Fifth String to anyone who's visiting Denver. Can't wait to come back already. Chef kiss!

Yelp
Yum! We had an awesome brunch at The Fifth String! The decor is modern and rustic and the service is super friendly. We were able to get a reservation for brunch that morning so we were sat right away, and I brought my infant and the staff was super accommodating. Portions are large, with fresh ingredients and food was delicious. My scrambled eggs were perfect - fluffy and creamy. A great experience!

Yelp
One of our better dining experiences in Denver lately. Loved the sausage and goat cheese ravioli! Excellent service and atmosphere, we will be coming back!

Yelp
Wow wow wow! I got reservations here for a friend and I and the word I can describe this place as is sensational! We started off our night with some cocktails and bread service. The tallow candle was *chefs kiss* amazing. We then ordered oysters and then our entrees, both of which were just as delicious. The ambiance was mellow, moody, and intimate. The service was phenomenal from start to finish. It is definitely not the over the top trying too hard service- rather they were attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. This is a great place for a romantic date night or to catch up with a friend. The bar vibe looked fantastic and I will be returning for some of their signature cocktails.

Yelp
First time visit to The Fifth String. Met a couple friends. The menus is a bit different as you order a 3 course meal. There are a couple other single plate options but the menus mostly consists of the 3 course option( $55 per person). They have a good cocktail menu. Drinks are $$ and small compared to many other places (mini martini glasses) but are very tasty. Each of us opted for the 3 course meal. There is a list of about 6 or 7 choices in each category. Appetizer, Main and 2 choices of dessert. The food is very beautifully plated and is cooked perfectly with a lot of flavor. We ordered 4 different appetizer to be able to taste each. All of them were great. Fried olives, beet salad, farmers salad and a meat plate. Dinner was delicious. Our picks were the tuna plate, the mushroom gnocchi and the biggest short rib I've ever seen.... was very tender and filling. Due to Covid, they are on a limited per table schedule so they move you along a bit but we never felt rushed in any way. Limited seating for the same reason. Definitely make a reservation. Casual and comfortable atmosphere. Servers were very attentive. Was a great night and I'd definitely visit again.

Yelp
Delicious food and amazing service! We had the tallow bread service, filet and marrow, the jumbo crab cake and the key lime pot. Our server was very friendly and helpful, as was the rest of the staff. The crab cake was my favorite. I had the leftover portion warmed today and am still raving about all the flavor. The crab cake wasn't stuffed with the usual fillers. I loved the flavor combination of the crab cake,accompaniments/ toppings and the bisque. Amazing even warmed over!

Yelp
We had an early reservation and received INCREDIBLE service (you know who you are, "Dove") We celebrated a birthday and they went above and beyond for us, really made the whole experience. Best meal I've had in a WHILE. It's been hard to find great food around here. I'll start by saying the Gnocchi was disappointing because it was a very small portion and kind of dry. But everything else was 10/10. The bread- homemade sourdough you get a LOAF. Their butter was incredible and I would eat it plain but we had the bone marrow candle butter which was beyond. It's a must get and I'm not a huge bread person. Fried olive appetizer. Everyone agreed this would be incredible in a pasta with that romesco sauce. Steak tartare- they cut the steak by hand, loved every single flavor in this it was BURSTING AT THE SEAMS with flavor. Halibut- not a fish person but this was incredible. Crispy seared, fresh fish, fried lobster chunks, pea purée with a lobster bisque poured over (together it tasted almost like a Thai curry) it was fabulous. Wine and cocktails were top tier as well. Love this place!

Yelp
If we could give this place more than 5 stars we would without hesitation. Everything about our experience was incredible! Atmosphere: 5/5 I never had a meal at Old Major but this is the space Fifth String has inhabited. The space is beautiful but warm. A great setting with a special meal with loved ones! Drinks: 5/5 We were celebrating an anniversary and were treated to champagne when we sat down. We immediately felt welcomed and appreciated the staff's eagerness to celebrate with us. We both ordered the Love Potion No. 9 and it was incredible! Food: 5/5 We started with bread which was fresh and so tasty! There were 8 hearty pieces, well worth the price. The menu is prefixed- $55 for a starter, entree, and dessert. I got the beet salad which was great! Delicious, good texture, and a colorful plate. I then got the scallops for my main course and they were cooked perfectly. My husband started with the farm greens salad which was much tastier than it might sound. It had egg, bacon, avocado and tempura broccolini. He then got the Colorado wagyu steak with pierogis and loved it. I kid you not that he hasn't stopped talking about this meal and I doubt he'll stop any time soon. We both ended with the skillet brownie and butterscotch ice cream!

Yelp
I have five things to say about The Fifth String. 1) Adaption When the chef/owner of Old Major decided he wanted to venture into a field specializing in artisan meats, chef and new owner decided to step in making a seamless transition to the new establishment. Retaining most of the rustic architectural charm of Old Major, the new proprietors have brightened and elevated this space. 2) Ambiance Women wearing b**** boots and flashy eveningwear accompany laid back Colorado male couture of flannel, jeans  and the occasional top knot. 3) Hospitality From the hostess that greeted us, to the chef/owner who checked in with us, every human interaction seemed completely genuine and pleasurable. Our server, Hannah, gave us the perfect combination of fine dining class and knowledge with a contemporary sassy "you-go-girl" fun attitude! 4) Creation The tallow candle bread service is an appetizer option that you can't miss! Experience immersing a piece of fresh baked bread into the melted drippings of an edible candle made from tallow, also known as rendered beef fat, among a bed of fresh herbs and fleur de sel. 5) Connection The creators of this nouveau cuisine, connect familiar tastes by weaving them into a new coalescence of flavors. The $55 three-course prix fixe option offers a couple to try a variety of combinations. The saganaki, or Greek cheese flambé, is amplified with Colorado pear butter and fresh microgreens. The hamachi tartare dances with spicy partners of pickled ginger and jalapenos in a ponzu sauce you will want to drink! Aromatic pork katsu, is not your traditional take on the dish, but more like a gourmet pork katsu bake surrounded by Japanese curry, Asian pear, and tonkatsu sauce.  While the seared sea scallops will absolutely take your breath away, the pièce de résistance for me was the Colorado wagyu steak carpaccio which arrives to the table on a very large platter! Middle Eastern harissa, pickled onions, and aged gouda all exquisitely blend atop the bounty of full-muscle wagyu goodness. If you've been saving money by not going out for a long time, The Fifth String shall not disappoint.

Yelp
As you walk in a very cold And unwelcoming lady will asks if you have a reservation and then let you know that you'll be timed for how long you can stay at your table hoping you'll turn around and leave, or that's what she makes you feel like from the tone in her voice and her attitude. Once she points you to your table and she leaves With her negative attitude the atmosphere changes... what's about to come Will make you forget about the hostess until she walks through The restaurant with her negative energy as you watch the staff move out of her way truly an unpleasant person and surprising that such a great place has someone with such an attitude at the door We started with oysters that were on point followed bye the tallow candle bread appetizer...both incredibly amazing and a great idea.. The Colorado wagyu steak carpaccio and the Hibachi tartare really stood out. We had the pork Katsu which was outstanding as well as the prime sirloin with the braised beef pierogi was also great. The chef came by which was a great opportunity to tell him how incredible the food is and I know I've use incredible lot but that's just what this restaurant is With Everything being so amazing they didn't disappoint with the desserts making the whole meal incredible and a memorable dining experience

Yelp
I had the chance to stop in for a few drinks and apps on a quiet Sunday night. During our visit, we had a fantastic (and witty) waiter - Tyler (AKA Walter), and met the owner and Chef - Amos. The drinks were incredible. The star of the show was the Carpaccio - it was outstanding and uniquely prepared. The rest of the menu looked incredible, and I can't wait to return. Great ambiance, great food, and great staff.

Yelp
I was surprised to see this was in the old Old Major building. The wine was wonderful and the bread was incredible. They burn tallow and have herbs and sea salt below and you dip your bread in it. It was such a cool idea and it was delicious. We got the snow crab squid ink spaghetti. It was good - VERY complex but wasn't necessarily wowed. Overall, I had a lovely dinner. I'd go back but maybe not right away.
