14 Affordable Wine Country Restaurants

"In Glen Ellen at the Fig Café, the three-course menu is $42 and includes dishes such as heirloom tomato tart with parmesan and arugula; Mt. Lassen trout, pearl barley, roasted onions, and basil pistou; and lemon butter cake for dessert. The team even uses its downtown-adjacent Sonoma catering space for themed pop-up events like Fried Chicken Night, BBQ, or Italian. Called Suite D, it’s all-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink (beer and wine) with gratuity included for $45." - Christina Mueller

Similar to its sister restaurant, the food was out of this world. 🤤 Unfortunately, our waitress never came by our table after we ordered, and she forgot my wife’s drink. It was a busy night—and they appeared short-staffed—but she walked by us multiple times without checking in. All that said, it was a lovely meal and we would go back!

I’m completely smitten by The Fig Cafe. From the ambiance, the excellent service and attention to detail is just extraordinary. The food and menu are excellent. Our server Willy was a pleasure to interact with and it’s clear every employee loves their job. Dinner was just delicious, good size portions expertly prepared. The highest quality with reasonable prices. I’ll give Fig a rousing 10/10. I can’t wait to return.

Dinner on our second night in Sonoma was in the charming town of Glen Ellen, just south of Santa Rosa. Most of us chose the Prix Fixe dinner at "the fig cafe & winebar" featuring Duck Confit with one outlier having the pasta with wild boar. All paired with delicious Pinot Noirs from Niagara and California that we brought with us since the have very reasonable corkage. Another night to be remembered!

The white pizza with fig and pancetta should just be a permanent menu item as this was by far the best thing we ordered for dinner. My burger was really good, but copious amounts of garlic spread did come back to haunt me in the form of heartburn. But I'd probably eat it again if I'm in the area. They open bottles of wine which makes it a great place to enjoy at bottle you picked up at one of the nearby Vineyards. The staff was very nice, and helpful. Desert was mediocre.

As usual, a truly amazing restaurant with sensational food and amazingly warm welcome. Two years later… so good to be back to our favorite restaurant in Glen Ellen. Really enjoyed the delicious food and great service. A tad disappointed that there is now a corking fee! Pre-Covid, we were used to bring our own wine knowing that it would not add to our bill. It was a unique feature to the fig cafe. We were a little disappointed to see a $15 corking fee added to our bill tonight. Not for the fee itself (what is $15 on a bill that is well over $200), but it is more for the principle. I would seriously recommend the fig cafe to go back to free corking, as it was pre-Covid.

Fantastic dinner experience in a casual yet elegant environment. Compliments to the chefs and the kitchen staff for maintaining such high level even after more than 20 years in the business. We came here on new year's eve and the wife had the set course menu with the main course being the short rib wild mushroom risotto. I had the Brussel sprouts, the signature fig arugula salad, and the chefs burger which was a relevation with those addictive fries. Service was friendly and competent. Overall a wonderful dining experience to cap off 2018.

Fantastic option in Glen Ellen with very robust menu and wine selection. Had a salad and mushroom pizza. Everything was delicious and very filling. They usually have a daily menu with an appetizer, main and dessert. It's usually well priced so I'd recommend exploring that option as well. Oh and I was going to forget the fried chickpeas. Simply delicious and a great option with your wine. We were lucky to get seated immediately which made the experience even better.
