Fig Tree Review - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The boardwalk is a tricky place if you’re hungry during lunch—or any meal for that matter—which is why Fig Tree is so important to know about. The sunny, all-day cafe is open every day (except Tuesdays) from 8am-9pm, and whether you’re alone at 10am with a laptop or on a first date that you have a good feeling about, this place gets the job done. The Latin-leaning menu is full of highlights like rockfish ceviche with coconut milk and whole grilled fish with mole morado, plus cocktails that come with interesting ingredients like mole bitters and agave rum." - Sylvio Martins

I needed a gift for a friend of a friend who was taking the U.S. Citizenship exam today. Not your typical gift giving occasion but with the owner's help, the gift was a big hit and the recipient told my friend that she especially loved the earrings. Thank you so much for your help! Keep up the unique gift ideas!

The Fig Tree is my go-to for gifts and fun finds! Great vibe, amazing selection, and always something new to discover.

So many items, many great scented candles, decorations for fall and amazingly friendly staff. Will definitely be back.

In terms of selection, the Fig Tree is a great gift shop to visit. Cards, wine glasses, and exquisite stock are just a few of the products available to choose from, and they may be customized to match any and all of your gifting needs. As a gift, several candles with different Chicago-inspired aromas were purchased, and they have all been well-received. They give excellent customer service and are incredibly helpful in all facets of their business operations. As an added bonus, their products are reasonably priced, so you will be able to purchase a large number of gifts for your friends and relatives without breaking your wallet. I also appreciate the fact that the fig tree is taking such wonderful care of us while we are out shopping for the holidays. The fact that the store was not overly crowded allowed me to feel completely at ease while doing my shopping. As has usually been the case, the selection and service were both excellent. Highly recommended.

This shop is one of my favorites for a reason that it is an excellent destination for purchasing good quality and one-of-a-kind presents that are suitable for almost any occasion. They offer a wide range of products, each of which, will convince you that you need to add it to your shopping cart immediately. When you go there, you can pick up a ton of little trinkets, candles, mugs, cards, and other gift items to bring with you when you go visit family and friends who live in other cities. I went out and purchased some mugs not too long ago here as a present for my mother, and she absolutely loved it so much. In addition, I am very appreciative of how friendly and helpful their staffs are. Also, the ambiance within is one that is very pleasant to be in. Unquestionably worthy of a shot at least once! I will surely will come here again next time.

This is a cute little gift shop with lots of trinkets and other gift items to bring with you when you visit with out of town friends and family. I’ve purchased multiple candles with difference Chicago-inspired scents as a hostess gift, and they have been very well received. They also are dog-friendly if you wanted to bring your four-legged friend in with you while you’re on a walk and they do also offer gift wrapping. An added bonus of this store: all of their employees are vaccinated and they broadcast that on their door. I love seeing business that take COVID-19 and their customer and staff’s safety seriously.

Google
Perfect place for a unique gift for pretty much anyone! Support local and small businesses!

Google
I don't know how anyone could give this place less than 5 stars - it's AMAZING! It's my go to spot for Secret Santa gifts, fun/quirky Christmas gifts, and random birthday gifts for the hard-to-shop-for-friend. They have everything for gifts for babies and new moms, to bachelorettes, and I could literally spend hours in here. My favorite part is the card selection, since they have the best cards for any/all occasions. The owner is super helpful and happy to answer any questions that you have, but I will say, if you see something and you think you like it, BUY IT! They get new stuff all the time and sell out of things much quicker than you'd think!

Yelp
The Fig Tree is a cute shop in the West Loop that I've tried to get to for some time. It's not very large but they have a wide variety of gifts and even souvenirs. They have some great Chicago-related merchandise: Glasses, coasters, kitchen towels, and so on. I was surprised to see an area with children's items like onesies and t-shirts and some small toys. They had a lot of cards, as well as a big section of socks. A lot of snarky and irreverent items too. This shop isn't easy for me to get to--I live on the north side and so it's nowhere near my neighborhood, and the couple other times I've attempted to visit here there was no parking around, so I'm not sure I'll be able to get back anytime soon. I would recommend it though and will be back if I'm around.

Yelp
Support your local businesses. Far and away the best shop in the West Loop-I do all of my card and gift shopping here for a notoriously fickle audience and they are always a hit. The Fig Tree is an outstanding gift shop. Cards, wine glasses, and cool socks for all of your cheeky gift needs. My wife absolutely loved the card and wine glass I got her here.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this when I was walking and it was such a cute find. They have unique gifts, and Chicago themed stuff. I would definitely recommend stopping in!

Yelp
Dropped by this small boutique shop to buy one of my friends a bridal shower gift. This place was so cute and unique and I loved how the shop was organized into different sections. They had a small section for bridal gifts and I ended up choosing a cute "Ms. to Mrs." mug and a pair of koozies. The mug was even 30% off! They even gift wrapped it for me which saved me from buying a gift bag! The reason I did not give this place 5 stars is because the staff was not very helpful or friendly (at least not until I got to the cash register).

Yelp
Locally owned gift shop. Service: Always warm, friendly and helpful. Really refreshing when so many stores have employees that barely look up from their phones to say hi! Selection: If you're looking for a card or gift (hostess, baby shower, bday, etc.) they have a beautifully curated selection of your favorite brands and items. I've never left the store empty handed.

Yelp
The Fig Tree is pretty similar to Smitten Boutique down the block, but it's a little smaller and their items are a little more novelty-esque. I in particular loved their Notorious RBG "Dissent" and Bob Ross items. There is a small section for bridal shower-appropriate gifts, which is what I was there for. I found a "Truth or Dare" set of cards for couples (and also a more "dirty" version of the game) that I purchased for $9. Seemed like a good deal to me. They are open on the weekends, which seems to be unusual for little boutique shops and which I appreciated.

Yelp
Support these small businesses, especially because they have the funniest merchandise to help with the covid anxiety!! Guaranteed to shed some laughter during a much needed time!!!

Yelp
Terrible experience here time after time, officially never coming back. The owner of this store is awful - she is SO rude. I have witness racism, ageism, and yelling at paying customers from this woman. Hard to believe she has any customers left at this point. There are several Chicago themed gift shops in the city - do not give her your business. Yikes!!!

Yelp
Adorable shop in the west loop with gift that have humor. Everything from greeting cards to candles to items for special occasions. Reasonable priced!

Yelp
I love that the fig tree is being so cautious and keeping us and themselves safe while holiday shopping! The store isn't crowded and I felt super comfortable shopping. I don't mind waiting outside, just a sign of the times. Great selection and and service as usual. Keep it up Fig Tree!!

Yelp
The Fig Tree is one of the many staples of the West Loop. From how well run the store is by the owner and her associates, to the unique and creative gifts for all occasions. I've purchased things such as trendy argyle socks for my infant son a few years ago to various intimate gifts for my wife. And if you're looking for one of a kind, hilarious bday/anniversary cards...opt out of the large retailers, and head to Fig Tree. You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
I was on a girls afternoon lunch and shopping with my daughters. We were asked to wait outside because they couldn't have too many people in the store. That is fine. No problem. The policy for now is 5 customers in the store. So we waited patiently outside in the hot sun for our turn. When our turn came, we went inside and began shopping. Cute store. We found a few things we would like to buy. We weren't in the store 5 minutes when one of the sales associates asked if one person in my party could step outside so another customer could come in. What?! Her other customer was in a hurry. What?! We just got in the store and now we were being asked to leave. How completely rude. You lost a big sale.

Yelp
This shop is so fun! Great selection of quirky and nice gifts in the West Loop for any occasion. Really easy online shopping and curbside pickup options for those looking to shop remotely during COVID-- curbside was super organized and I was in and out in a minute with my order. Unlike the haters below, I appreciate that the store owner has gone out of her way-- likely at a detriment to her business-- to make sure her staff and shoppers are safe and healthy during a tough time. Worth any wait!

Yelp
The Fig Tree is a great spot for super fun and unique gifts for just about any occasion. I also find the store to be relatively affordable for what they offer. My only complaint would be the differing customer service. Sometimes the staff is super warm and welcoming, and other times I've interacted with a staff member who was pretty cold. Not that big of a deal, but in my opinion one of the best perks of shopping small is that extra customer service touch that you might not get at a big box store. Regardless, I would recommend this place.
google avatar

Hannah H.

Yelp
The Fig Tree is a little gift store that offers wedding items, baby & child clothing and accessories, greeting cards, and jewelry. Since this place was noted as a stationery store, I thought that they would carry a nice selection of unique cards and such. However, I was a little disappointed that most of their items were heavily focused on items for babies and tots. Service was also not so friendly, and after a brief few minutes of looking through their collection, I moved on! T___T +items geared/heavily-focused on babies & tots +not-so-friendly service T___T

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! It's totally a place you can get lost in for a bit just looking around. It's not huge but everything is entertaining and eye catching. I come here anytime I want a card with a bit of extra "sauce". Their cards say more than "happy birthday" or "I was thinking of you." Their cards say "you are really special to me." "I value you" because they aren't cookie cutter. They are a little pricy but not too too far off of typical cards you'll find in Walgreens. Parking may be a bit of a pain on the weekends but park kind of far and walk the block because there's other cool things to do in the area.

Yelp
I read an article in the NY Times and it featured The Fig Tree. I found their website, loved their stuff so much that I bought 15 xmas ornaments. I just got them today and they are awesome! You can support small business even from many states away....I'm in California! I've got my eye on a few more things.....

Taylor R.

Yelp
The salesclerk promptly let me know that the store had closed at 7:06PM (6 minutes after closing) and the other clerk replied "So, GTFO [get the f* out]". That's pretty atrocious service. I won't be back. To other shoppers, two shops down, there is a very similar store. I recommend spending your money there.

Yelp
So very happy to have found this place! Perfect for unique and memorable gifts, cards, books & wrapping. I love how the shop is structured in easy to understand sections - there's something for everyone! Items are reasonably priced and good quality. I have always had a great experience in here. Good music + dogs welcome = bonus ambiance! I'll continue to support this adorable shop and recommend to anyone in the market for an awesome gift for someone they love. Shop local!

Yelp
Well, taking this Yelp Shops Local pledge is infinitely easy when you've got super shopper spots like The Fig Tree around. Love, love, love. Since I've received many gifts from this West Loop boutique (the telltale silver bags with maroon ribbons give the boy away, always) I figured I'd check it out for some serious gifting... The mission: A birthday gift for my lovely mother. The goods: A set of the softest cotton pajamas. Blue with pink flowers, sort of a vintage feel. Gift bag. Card. Magnet. All for under $60. Hurrah! The verdict is out on whether she'll like them, but I would put money on "yes, pajamas!" They have a nice little smattering of accessories, and a lot of kiddo gifts! Fantastic stationary, cards, thank you notes, knick knacks and an array of grand giftable items. Xmas shopping? Birthday shopping? Baby shopping? Stop in, very worth it and the shop gals are super friendly and helpful. *street parking relatively easy. (meters)

Yelp
Great, locally owned shop. Perfect place to find host / hostess gifts, as well as unique birthday gifts. The owner is super nice and I always find something that makes me laugh in the store.

Yelp
Long overdue update: After a less-than-stellar first experience, will definitely give The Fig Tree another chance. Ann reached out to make things right, which I really respect. Very cool assortment of games and lots of cool, unique gift ideas.

Ashley B.

Yelp
Wonderful shop that is open during quarantine! So important to buy local. Ordered some great Mother's Day cards and gifts for new parents. Thank you to The Fig Tree team!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been in here a couple of times, mostly for cards. I always find something really cute and perfect for the occasion. They don't have a lot of little gifts for my taste but their card selection is really great! A little pricey but definitely worth the smiles! They do have a few cute little knick knacks and worth a stop to check out if you need a quirky little detail!
google avatar

Jay C.

Yelp
Cute little place! Lots of funny cards and gifts. Located in a nice area. Stop in to check it out!

Yelp
One stop gift shop! The perfect addition to the West Loop! A great source for homewares and unique quirky gifts, for that hard-to-buy-for hostess or coworker. And a very small but appealing collection of jewelry at a price point that makes it a low-guilt treat for yourself :)

Caroline A.

Yelp
This is an adorable place for small (and fun) gifts and cards. It's kind of hard to say what their niche is... but it seems to be about celebrating life's most memorable moments - weddings, babies, birthdays, bachelorette parties, etc. I hung around the candle area for about 10 minutes taking them all in. Fantastic. I love little independent shops like Fig Tree. I will definitely come back to pick up a few things.

Su N.

Yelp
My favorite place for cards and thoughtful gifts. There is always something new but they make sure to stock up on old favorites. The customer service is great and as a busy mom that often purchases gifts on the way to the party, I truly appreciate that they still offer gift wrapping.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
This boutique is totally charming and cute. The owner is super nice and will help you find the perfect gift or accessory that is right for you. I'm really exciting about this new addition to the neighborhood!!

Annie H.

Yelp
Love this locally owned shop! I always go out of my way just to make it to The Fig Tree to buy cards, holiday gifts and baby, bachelorette and wedding cards and favors. Cute stuff, kind staff -- and dog-friendly to boot!
google avatar

Jenny R.

Yelp
I love this boutique! A great place to find gifts for almost anyone (well, women)... beautiful jewelry, fun cards and unique items for baby showers and bridal showers. I always think of this place when I need a gift for a friend or even for myself! The cards are the best... they're hilarious and you wouldn't find them anywhere else. The owner is really helpful and friendly. I recommend this place to anyone needing a great gift!
google avatar

Maija T.

Yelp
This store is great! I dropped by yesterday in a rush to get a bday gift for a friend and ended up knocking 4 gift purchases off my to do list. From the outside I couldn't tell if it was mostly baby stuff or not but there are gifts for all inside. Reasonably priced jewelry that is much cheaper and cuter than the stuff at the store next door. So glad to have a store like this in the neighborhood!
google avatar

Sandra H.

Yelp
I absolutely love this boutiquey store! The card section is bar none, the knickknacks are amazing, they have a children's section with little clothes, headbands, toys and books, a wedding section, the jewelry is dainty and adorable and even have your staple Chicago postcards, candles, etc. every time I've been in the store in greeted and the owner and employees are so kind! If you are looking for cute stuff or a great cars you have to stop in here!

Alana P.

Yelp
Extremely welcoming, friendly staff, especially the owner. Love the Fig Tree! This is my go to for all gifts and hysterical cards.

Marisa D.

Yelp
I hear all the time, "You buy the perfect gifts!" My response? "I have the perfect store!" The Fig Tree is my constant go-to for all types of gifts - from housewarming to engagement to birthday, there is a special and meaningful gift for all. The store is nicely organized and easy to navigate, and the selection of items never disappoints. The Fig Tree is one of my favorite local businesses to support. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Caroline A.

Yelp
Adorable little shop in the West Loop. It is perfect for picking up a last minute birthday card or wedding gift. The cards for all occasions are beautifully designed and cheaper than most Papyrus stores. Letterpress, screen print and foil decor for everyone!! Also, stop by Cone Gourmet right up the street for some delightful Cookie Dough ice cream!
google avatar

Carrie M.

Yelp
This shop has a great selection of cute cards, candles, and accessories. It's perfect for when you are looking for a gift for a friend. The customer service is great- I've had a good experience every time I go!
google avatar

Yelp
I went into this store for the first time over the weekend looking for a variety of cards - sympathy, birthday and work congratulations...pretty easy to find for the most part and a great eclectic selection. The woman who helped me answered my questions and when I asked her about a particular card line (Squibnocket) she wrote it down as something to follow-up on. I'll be back because of the selection and I like specialty cards vs. "generics.
google avatar

Barbra B.

Yelp
Cute stuff that is ideal for gifts! I stopped in here for a gift and they had everything I needed. I got a very cute necklace and earrings that were stylish and a nice card. They also had the cutest gift bags and they gave me tissue that matched. This place is going to be my go-to place for gifts for friends, mother-in-laws, baby showers, and bridal showers! Highly recommended.

Yelp
i'm obsessed. we recently moved to the west loop from lincoln park, and i will admit, i was nervous about losing all the great shopping in lincoln park. well, have no fear! the fig tree is right down the street. best place for treating yourself to something special and for gifts - wedding, baby, birthday, new home. it's really a one-stop shop. and the owner is just delightful.
google avatar

Tina C.

Yelp
This little shop consistently comes through! It's not just for children's items, though I've been able to find great gifts for my nieces and nephews. I've also picked up cute house warming gifts, as well as some unique jewelry from local designers. The woman who owns it is super friendly and helpful, though I don't feel that pressure if I just want to browse. I try to stop in every couple of months because she manages to change up her inventory and even better, prices are manageable for what feels like some unique and fresh finds.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
So cute! I bought stocking stuffers, as well as a hostess gift for an upcoming holiday party. Fantastic find in the West Loop!

Gina O.

Yelp
Love this place! This is my go to place for cards and gifts (including gifts for myself). The owner is usually there and is super friendly. Thanks for making the west loop the best loop, Fig Tree!

Yelp
Best gifts for ANY occasion or any recipient! You will go in for 1 item and leave with 4. Supercute stuff!

Yelp
I loveloveLOVE this place. I'm pretty sure I am in here once a week because from birthdays, to showers, to weddings to just because, this place has what you need. I never give a birthday present anymore without a little something from The Fig Tree. Also, the owner Ann is VERY kind, she donates to support local animal rescues and truly has a heart of gold!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent place to go for random gift shopping! I didn't need anything particular and ended up finding 3 perfect holiday gift items plus wonderful candles and great cards - and could have done more damage but I wanted to pace myself!! Wonderful range of stuff - and once you get to the register, you will find a few more things that you just have to have - thanks for making shopping so easy, I'll be back!

Yelp
I felt compelled to write a "Yelp" review after my second try with this place. First time was a couple years ago, rude service. I usually don't return to unfriendly businesses, but I was pressed for time while back in town for family engagements and it was within walking distance from my hotel so I decided to give The Fig Tree a second chance. I walked in to get some graduation gifts. Bad idea! A dark haired woman, (may have been the same woman that was rude the first go around) was sitting behind a counter, not only did she not bother to greet me but had a very strange, disturbing and unfriendly look on her face as she stared at me. She obviously didn't want to be there OR help anyone. I felt the most unwelcome vibe, it was extremely bizarre. I took a quick look around and left. Who knew one could feel uncomfortable while shopping for gifts and cards?? Let me save you some time, don't go there, all they offer are unfriendly, strange, rude service and mediocre gifts. There won't be a third visit next time I'm in Chicago. ** PS** I took my business a few doors down where they have great customer service and fantastic gifts.
