On the Grid : The 4 Quarters

"If you want a bar with more originality and well... errr.. fun then 'The Four Quarters' is the place you have to go. It’s London's only 'Arcade Bar'. It serves great Beer (Yakima Red, Beaverton...) and the best in 80's and 90's computer game action with an ever changing collection of gaming cabinets from Crystal Castles to Pac Man, Space Invaders to Point Blank, if you like it old school you can't go wrong. Everything (apart from pinball) costs 25p (exchanged for an American quarter). They serve the best hot dogs around and house regular themed seasons and events." - Studio A4 E+F

The Best Big Outdoor Spaces For Eating And Drinking

"Picture this: half your group want to watch the football, the other half of your group - despite very much enjoying the tender emotional embrace of the show Ted Lasso - definitely don’t want to watch the football. Where do you go? To Peckham Riviera, that’s where. A big bar right by Peckham station, this place has that whole urban paradise thing going on and has everything from great amaretto sours to live sports covered. Basically, it’s a real crowd-pleaser and the tasty hot dogs don’t hurt either." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak

6 Exciting Things To Eat & Do In London Between July 23rd - 25th

"Sometimes it’s worth risking a Monday morning hangover (hello, that’s a problem for future you) and making the most of any available blip of sunshine. This Sunday marks the return of the aptly-named curators of fun, The Good Time Gang at Peckham Riviera. Expect six hours of special guests, top cocktails, loud music, and pizza. All you need to do is DM Peckham Riviera for a spot and the best part is that this foliage-packed South London space is totally covered should the weather start misbehaving." - heidi lauth beasley

Love the four quarters!!! Been going since it opened and kept coming back for good reason! Lovely staff, great games (shout out point blank!!!! No.1 game), delicious beers and loving seeing the music space downstairs really come into its own with more and more nights going on. Sound system slaps and the vibe is great down there.

Cute spot to play retro games but tokens are expensive compared to other places i’ve been to. Personally I think it makes more sense to keep tokens cheap so people stay longer and buy more drinks. After playing games for 15 minutes and noticing I ran out of tokens, I just left

Had a great night at the rvp event. The bar staff were great and especially Joe. Gr eat hospitality and the games were super fun. Great for a private party, socialising and even birthdays. Will definitely be coming back again!.

Wow how have I not been here before. Really cool venue. Good amount of space. There are some booths you can book or just turn up and use them if no one's booked. There's also a load of arcade machines. The beer is great and also they serve fresh pizza that smelt delicious (I didn't eat here but I will next time!). Really cool chill place to hang out. Great vibe.

Great atmosphere, and selection of games. Amazing veggie/vegan food options. Big selection of beer. It was a bit cold inside but warmed up once more people were inside. Look out for event days as they often have musicians playing.

A lovely quiet spots, dj nights on Wednesdays and the bar staff are always friendly! Specifically Rou, they’re super professional and friendly, and gave the best service I’ve had throughout my weekly visits! I always look forward to coming back, the donatello is delicious by the way.

Friendly place with lots of fun drink options and deals. There are loads of games to try. We went on the tenth anniversary party and had a blast.

This is a really cool bar. The games are only 25 pence a go so you can get some good time on each one. House of the dead two is a firm favourite and Sega Rally is great. Lots of other things to choose from. It’s all the 90s games and could do with a few newer ones but I bet they would be more expensive. Good bar choice as well. Great place for a birthday or office party.

Yelp
The Four Quarters is a cool little spot right in the heart of a changing neighborhood. It evoked an equal mix of arcade and pub (but that is primarily because the local patrons are your prototypical British pub guys.) The bartenders are incredibly friendly and the selection is reasonably prices and they are willing to make the weird concoctions that I request. The arcade machines which there are about a dozen use US Quarters so don't dump them at the border this is the place to use them. I very much enjoyed the place, but I wish there was more of a demographic mix as when I was there the only groups were millennial guys and male Gen Xers. I couldn't even fill a single hand with anyone of another group. This is possibly due to it being a weeknight since the music variety tends to be the kind that you'd expect a more eclectic mix in London. I will definitely be returning to experience a weekend night to see if the vibe is any different.

Yelp
2 years after coming here First and it's unfortunately lost its shine, it's coolness and it's unique we must come here. It's now on 3 levels when it used to be on one, there seem to be less machines and more space for seating. Okay there's more choice of beer and bar staff but it's all a bit more grungy in a bad way.

Yelp
This is a very interesting bar full of vintage arcade games. Never been anywhere quite like this before. I'm not a big gamer so I just observed and rode some waves of nostalg-i-a. Little Lenny from Brick brewery was a very decent beer. Lucky Jack from the Norwegians of Lervig was not quite as good, but still a very nice brew. Toilets are not so good. I find a toilet seat always helps! If this is your scene - then you will love it. If not then its still an unusual place worth checking out at least once.

Yelp
An arcade bar in London. Fun! Being a fan of the American chain Barcade, I was excited to learn about The Four Quarters opening in Peckham. Peckham isn't my usual place to hang out, but as we do have some friends there we headed down for a Sunday evening funday. Right now (July 2014), as the place is still in its infancy, only some of the games cost money with the rest on free play. I'm sure this will transition to most/all being charged as they mature in their business. For games requiring coins, you can swap £1 for $1 in quarters. As an American, I think it's fun to play with actual quarters. I also like that they haven't adjusted the machines to cost a lot to play. The drink selection is pretty massive (lots of craft beers and such), the food selection seems to be still in a trial phase (right now they're doing a menu of various takes on grilled cheese), and the look whole place does have a bit of a work-in-progress vibe. But I really like it! The stools are super comfy, which is nice if you want to sit and play Sega Rally (quite badly, in my case) or just relax a bit. They have Tron - which is really cool to look at, but quite tricky. I should note that I'm pretty sucky at most arcade games in general, but that one kinda kicked my ass. Lots of classics: Pac-Man, Asteroids, WWF, Defender, Street Fighter 2, Star Wars Trilogy, and lots more that I can't remember. There are even a couple pinball machines. Get thee to Peckham and play video games! It's fun!!

Yelp
Cool place to come at least once- it's totally weird because even I was like "oh HEY! I remember that!!!!" Yep, it brings back the kid in you. It's really dark and I got bored after a while but there are loads of different games all over the place and also an upstairs so just wandering through was cool.

Yelp
Feeling like Lana, channeling a bit of Lara, playing video games has never been so much fun. The bar wall is stacked with a great selection of very grown up whiskies which you can have with a very carefree, nutrient low, all caution to the wind, I don't care about vegetables, how it's meant to be-bowl of cheesy chips in 'Merican style red plastic baskets. Great. I hate dinner plates sometimes. In this video arcade come bar, you can rekindle your love of 2d parallax, even if it is indeed like stepping into the parallel universe of being back in your teenage crushes room circa the days of games with cables and TVs that were as big at the back as they were across. Your date will probably respond to you in monosyllabic grunts whilst he tries to complete level 4 of Mario on a television, like I was talking about, yes a telly-vii-szhon that comes in 27" 3D cube form and needs a table to sit on. So while your date tries to quash a toad King, play princess Peaches on your own but do it killing some baddies whilst taking your day out on a shoot em up and swigging an ice cold Kernel. If anything this place is a history lesson, a time capsule of consoles from a perfectly preserved time without wi-fi. I was having so much fun I forgot to ask for it. Better than Namco world, as it has way better beers.

Yelp
Crackhead beggars coming in off the street breathing down peoples necks while playing games. Games weren't well maintained. Pretty filthy. Bad vibes. Dicey area.

Yelp
Gotta love The Four Quarters! Plentiful awesome arcade machine, cool-ass gaming inspired drinks, not to mention free-to-play consoles in abundance. So seriously worth the trek to Peckham (which is admittedly a pallaver for some). They say those cheeky scoudrels at StreetPass London will be putting on an event here in October. Complete with Dragon Ball Z Extreme Butoden and Mario Kart 7 tournaments. And a raffle. And apparently this is all sponsored by both the Big N and Bandai Namco... you're going to have to find StreetPass London on Facebook to check out more, however ;) So, yes, The Four Quarters. Recommended.

Yelp
I love that this place opened up in Peckham last year. I've recently started heading into Peckham more (I work in New Cross so I kinda end up going the other way) and this has become my favourite place to go. It's situated at one end of Rye Lane, pretty much opposite the Asda. The concept is simple - there's machines which take US quarters which you can change in a machine or at the bar, and there's also consoles dotted about which are free to play. The bar has a decent selection of drinks at decent enough prices for London (I'm a Northerner - the price of things is still crazy to me even after 4 years!) and the food is actually nice; it's the sort of place you could sit in for hours and not realise how much time has passed. I've heard that they hold game tournaments in things like Guitar Hero which is cool. There's an upstairs bit which too which is super cosy but isn't open all the time. Such a fun place to go to after work or at the weekend.

Yelp
A hidden gem, absolutely worth a visit. Great atmosphere, classic arcade cabinets and top quality craft ales. What more could you want?

Yelp
Great bear and old school arcade games. Is there anymore that needs to be said?! Can get very busy but personally I think it just adds to the atmosphere. And the grilled cheese sandwhich I had, so. Good. Who knew peanut butter and cheese was such a good combo!?

Yelp
Cool wallpapers, retro arcades, good beer and good street food residencies as well as themed nights a lot of the time. Just wish there was one North of the river! Peckham seems to be a happening place.

Yelp
From the owners of the retro game base shop, a great barcade with lots of arcade machines that works on american quarters! It's great to play with other three friends to the tnmt arcade game while drinking one of the long list of ales or beers.

Yelp
Nice enough place with good selection of beers and lovely and helpful staff. Got some tv-games thing going on but is music is still on the level on a reasonable level making it a nice place for beer and a chat. Good stop on rye lane between canavans and busses building.
