Houston’s Best Sports Bars | Eater Houston

"“Eat, drink, play” is the motto at this bar, where sports fans can watch some of their favorite games in a luxurious setting with 50 big-screen TVs. Choose between the sleek bar, the dining room, or the patio, where you can settle in for dishes like Cajun pasta and platters of wings and seafood to share. The game room keeps the energy high, with pool and ping pong tables where bargoers can get competitive while sipping on lavender lemon drops while keeping tabs on the game at the surrounding TVs. The Fox Trap also features daily specials, including $6 margaritas on Mondays, buy-one, get-one free martinis on Thursdays, and Friday night dinner parties with DJs." - Brittany Britto Garley

I met a friend out of town for lunch at Fox Trap. I visited about 4 years ago before they changed their name, so I was excited to come back. I absolutely love the food and the new ambience. I also appreciate that you can play pool or ping pong while dining, which makes it such a fun spot. It was a little noisy since it was the weekend with lots of activities going on, but the music was good and the food was amazing. Overall, really glad we stayed and I’d definitely come back.

Well I’m new to Houston and last night was my first time at Fox Trap and it was ok. My guy and I had fried Asian Henny wings also Mac & cheese… I‘ll tell you that the M&C was homemade cheesy goodness but needed a pitch of salt. My chicken tasted good but the pieces were too big and needed to be cooked slower and a few minutes longer .. cooked too fast makes them tough.. I had to put them in the air fryer on 305 degrees for about 15 mo mins. and they were more tender that way.. Our drinks were good..The Asian Henny glaze was nice. Now let’s get down to the service. My waitress was ok even though she was a little forgetful. However leaving out at around 2 am and being one of the last couples to leave the female bartenders were unprofessional.. Yelling cuss words and talking about customers. Made me uncomfortable. Not sure if I would go back to stay but might go back for the Mac & Cheese and some salmon or shrimp. The atmosphere needs some color and Bathroom stalls need updating.

Sunday Brunch at Fox Trap Restaurant & Lounge was everything! 🥂✨ The vibe? On point. The staff? A1. Shoutout to waitress Meag who made sure we were taken care of like queens 👑. Menu switch-up from the main to the revised breakfast had us a bit thrown at first 🤷🏽‍♀️, but the Espresso Martini caught me by surprise—soooo delicious 😍. We grabbed a small pitcher of mimosas (rosé champagne, OJ & cranberry) and let me tell you, best mix “mistake” ever 🍊🍓🥂. I had to skip the famous Fox Omelette (RIP, it’s gone 😢) and went with my go-to fish & grits w/ braised collard greens (hold the soupy juice, please 😅). My siStas went all out: grilled shrimp & grits, Bananas Foster French Toast, fries, bacon, and scrambled eggs 😋. Bonus: we got to meet Chef Jimmie 👨🏽‍🍳—such a delight! Little suggestion: the speakers in the middle section need a tweak 🎶—the overlapping music threw the vibe off at first. But honestly, the staff, atmosphere, and food more than made up for it. We’ll DEFINITELY be back to check out the night vibe 🌌. This spot ended our siStacation on a high note, right in the middle of all we were going through. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts 💜🙏🏽.

Google
I enjoyed my experience! I ordered the lamb chops (rosemary) with garlic mashed potatoes, and my friend ordered the shrimp and fish platter. Both were seasoned well. The mashed potatoes were alright. Overall, my meal was very delicious. Loved the aesthetics of the place. I'm glad they kept the pool and pong tables. I'm definitely going back to try different dishes.

Google
I love the atmosphere the vide is cool. They would’ve gotten 5 stars all around but they are over priced. The henny drink is great and the music is on point. I ordered the pasta with chicken and it was greatly seasoned, my dude got the fish platter we wanted it fried but it came grilled (it was fine) with a side of mashed potatoes and it was priced for $24 definitely not worth it , fish was small and he was still hungry. The waitress (the white girl) we had is rude and didn’t check on us for a full 30+ minutes. I wanted to change my order from the eggrolls to the fish platter and she gave me nothing but attitude about it ugh Now when it comes to the manger she was great and understanding. One bad apple spoiled it for everyone 🤷🏾‍♀️They have a pool table for no charge can’t beat that

Google
The atmosphere is more of a sports bar than a restaurant. When we checked in we waited a few minutes to be seated and then the hostess walked us to our table and told us our waitress just clocked in so it would be about 10 minutes. We ordered a carafe of mimosas with cranberry juice that tasted like cranberry juice only that we had to drink from plastic cups. At most restaurants, a carafe contains the entire bottle of champagne. However, I noticed on the menu that the full bottle of mimosas was priced at $35 and the carafe was $20, which suggests the carafe probably was half a bottle of champagne and a lot of juice. It took 45 minutes for our food to come out. When the food came there was no salt and pepper or syrup for the pancakes and French toast. When my food was brought out 10 minutes later the server brought it out and sat the tray on the table and I had to get my own plate off the tray. We then asked him for the salt, pepper, and syrup and he told me my waitress can get that for me. I ordered the lamb chops and I had to eat it with my hands because they gave me a butter knife to cut them. The food quality was average at best. It would have been better if we had condiments and maybe a sauce on the omelette.

Google
I should’ve believed the 1 star reviews. I went here last night and was immediately seated. The table had not been cleaned off and after seating us they never came to clean it off however the lady that seated us hurried to remove a cherry stem that was on the dirty table. I asked our waitress do they have raspberry lemon drops and she said yes. We waited about 20 minutes for our drinks (note they were not busy) for her to bring me something I didn’t order. I asked her what is this she said a passion fruit lemon drop which was 100% lemon juice and no liquor. The waitress told us every time this one lady is the bartender they always get complaints. I had her send it back to make the drink that I ordered, still nothing but lemon juice. The shrimp pasta was good however cutting 1 shrimp into 5 pieces is very ghetto. The jerk lamb chops weren’t seasoned but it was beyond the normal spice jerk seasoning should have. This was my first and last time coming here because obviously they need someone who actually knows how to make drinks.

This was my first time patronizing Fox Trap. The experience was great. It is roomy and very well set up. Server Kia was AMAZING! Atmosphere was a cool vibe, not too rowdy just chill. Food was on point and the drinks top tier. My family chose this establishment for a family gathering and we were not disappointed! We will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Salmon was so good!! Bartenders and service was excellent. I went on a wed night. Not many people there. The ambiance was good. I use to come here a lot before the new owners and change of venue. It's not my crowd but the service and food was excellent. I don't like that they demand a $75/hold on credit cards for tabs and also they auto grat by 20% every tab even if you're by yourself at the bar. I understand the need with the crowd but that sucks to have all of that demanded and automatic. Good food and service but not for me and won't be coming back myself.

Yelp
After the inevitable confusion and 30+ min wait for a seat we left. I knew this wasn't going to be a fun time when I saw a line outside the bar at 3p on a Saturday. It's a (neighborhood) bar, not a club, not a concert venue. Every table was designated for reservations. Reservations get priority, yet no one answered when I called at 12:49p to make a reservation for 3p. No online reservation option available. I hate this club/restaurant fusion trend. Let clubs be clubs and (sports) bars be bars, if I go to Twin Peaks or YardHouse, I can just walk in and sit. It was just two of us, why can't we sit until the party who reserved gets here. There were open (empty) tables everywhere.

Yelp
This place works for me starting with a big hello after walking through the door by Foxy C. The Fox Trap is a very large venue that is perfect for large groups or a one on one with someone special. The walls are black and packed with televisions. The bar is huge and you'd be lucky to get Foxy C as your bartender, a skilled mixologist with a big personality. They also have excellent food to match the cocktails. I loved the lamb sliders which were cooked to perfection and surprisingly tender served with fries. I wish that I lived closer so I could make this place a regular just to check out the happy hour.

Yelp
We had to take our girlfriend to the IHA airport (Bush Airport) in Houston. We decided to try the restaurant that we saw on TikTok called THE FOX Trap restaurant. Huge inside with a full bar and plenty of televisions all over. For starters, we began by Popping Bottles (Champagne) with pineapple juice and orange juice; cause ' It's 5 o clock somewhere. Our server was La La and she was Amazing and so was the Chef along with the rest of the staff. All of the Food was Delicious...super delicious. Overall Experience, Superb...This place is Truly Awesome and they have billards, table tennis along with a Huge outdoor patio.

Yelp
I was invited here as a first time visitor. There is ample parking outside and the inside is divided up into several sections. We set to the furthest left section after. The group there had a dj while the football game was on. The service was pretty good and drinks reasonably priced. I did get to try some of the food and the shrimp and fish plate was very good. After the game we went to the patio area where there is a covered and uncovered area both with several TVs. There is also an area next to the patio where there is a giant tv made up of several smaller TVs. I throughly enjoyed myself and I will return again to watch a game.

Yelp
New spot on Westheimer, Westchase area opened, August 2024. Popped in during happy hour. Food/Happy Hour: Drinks & appetizers are reduced prices for happy hour (HH) I got the trio trap appetizer which consists of 3 chicken wings (you pick flavor), 2 boudin egg rolls, & 2 sliders.( shrimp or chicken, grilled or fried) HH price was $15, regular price is $22. Additional slider protein options exist (lamb, salmon, chicken, turkey catfish) if you place just a slider order. Grilled shrimp slider option is different & they were tasty. 2 shrimp per slider. 2 boudin egg rolls and 3 chicken wings, spicy garlic, were both very good. The spicy garlic is flavorful with a hint of spiciness, not hot. Drinks: Drink menu had some different signature drinks that all sounded pretty tasty. Love the variety of options. I opted for a pineapple old fashion. It has bourbon & mezcal for a nice balanced drink. Just a tad sweet for me so I'd ask for little less sweet next time. Service: Service was great. The bartender, Foxy C. greeted us & all the customers upon entry. She made great drinks & had such a pleasant disposition. The background was nice R&B, just the right volume to enjoy yet be able to have conversation The place has 4 distinct eating/gathering areas plus the bar. They all flow into each other. 1 area has pool tables. 1 area has a stage. I visited on a weekday evening but the bartender says they sometimes have multiple DJs in the different sections to provide different music on the weekends. I will definitely return. I'll have to see what the weekend vibe is like!

Yelp
My first visit was great. Since moving to Houston have been having a time finding places that serve turkey burgers! They had regular as well as turkey burger sliders with fries. Delish!! Because it was Happy Hour we also received thee most yummy beignets. I would visit just for a set of those.

Yelp
Westheimer has a new spot. Stopped in for brunch and some college football. They have plenty of parking and seating available. They had complimentary mimosas when you walked in. Nice decor and lots of space there are like 3 different rooms/spaces in here plus a patio. They offer hookah, brunch, full bar, and pool. The brunch was good, nice, crispy catfish seasoned well. If you're not a grits lover, this might not be for you. Grits to me was the star. You could oder them with catfish, shrimp, or lambchops. The French toast was nice and sweet served with a bourbon glaze, almost resembled dessert to me,it was very rich. I was surprised it wasn't too packed for a Saturday. I played a little pool with my friends and enjoyed 2 mimosa carafes. To me, the orange is the best. The pineapple and cranberry seemed to overpower the champagne they used. My only issue is for pool they hold your ID, and I left without getting it back after a few hours. i forgot about it, and so did the waitress. I went back Sunday to retrieve it, and it was chaos. I waited over 1 hour for my ID to be returned as there wasn't a designated place behind the bar. While I was waiting, 4 couples left due to waiting over 45 minutes to be sat. They seemed to be understaffed for brunch and football Sunday. This place has potential, but there are a few housekeeping things they need to get in order. I'd love to come back, but Sunday clearly is not the day for great service, so I'll stick to a weekday or Saturday when there is a smaller crowd that is manageable.

Yelp
Free parking, no $40 parking lol; Great vibe; I had the fried salmon (a lil salty) but overall good; service was great, overall great experience

Yelp
Had a great time at Fox Trap on Saturday. Our server Tyra Fox was fantastic! The drinks were tasty and the food was good. It took a while for us to get our apps but we enjoyed them when they arrived. The ambiance was lively! Great people watching from those watching the game to those playing pool and ping pong. If you're a drinker, get The Pornstar. We each had two!!

Yelp
I didn't get an opportunity to eat here but the drinks alone were really good. We got the Peach Old Fashioned and Pink 75. They were both refreshing with the right amount of alcohol. The service was also really good. Our serve was really nice. It was packed, so we were able to walk in and get a good table. Will definitely go back for food
google avatar

Yelp
Ambiance: 10/10. Had a soft opening yesterday and it was super fun! It was spacious with great parking! Perfect place to watch the Olympics as well. The place serves hookah which was also really good. Super smooth. I'm impressed as I don't really like hookah. Service: Our fox was named Shay (how cute is that) ! She was excellent and made sure we were well taken care of. Food: Fried Shrimp and Grits - 9/10. Absolutely delicious. French Toast: 10/10. Perfectly sweet. I have to go back for this alone ha. Mimosa: 8/10 Can't wait to go back! I just found my spot!!!

Yelp
Here's the thing, the photos on the website and the general feel from the online representation are fantastic. Add to that the availability of reservations and an interesting menu and this looks like an opportunity to try something different for after-work drinks with business associates whose opinions your value. DON'T. It's just past the point on Westheimer that's not quite "uh oh" Westheimer and not in a good way. It's in a shopping center that's not all the way to the 'once one business leaves, it's only a matter of a year before there's only one small place open and nobody knows how or why' but it looks to be a year away. It is not great. Maybe it used to be a nightclub, maybe it used to be a gentleman's club that's somehow trying to go the other direction but it is not somewhere you bring someone that you don't want to spend an hour asking each other how you wound up there.
google avatar

Marie L.

Yelp
Be prepared for a $75 hold to be placed on your card regardless of what you order. I've never come across this anywhere else... ever. I'm sure they have their reasons but that's a hassle I don't want to deal with following up on again so it just wasn't the place for me. The staff was nice but could stand to be more attentive. Sat right at the bar and had to flag the bartender down more than once to order more drinks bc they were busy socializing amongst themselves, not even with other customers. The menu is also extremely pricey both food and drinks. The inside was clean and neatly remodeled but now only have a few pool tables and a ping pong table for games. Craft Republic had so much more to offer at way more reasonable prices. I'll just miss it.
google avatar

Suzanne S.

Yelp
Atmosphere, service and drinks are great. But I'm reducing stars to call attention to the way they do the bill. We had a party of 4 and they added a 20% gratuity. Then when you split the check they ask for additional tip option of 3% 5% and 7% but if you make a selection of those options the % is based on the entire tables bill. For example. I ordered 2 drinks for $16 each and selected 7% additional tip (because I was unaware of the already added tip) and the 7% was on the entire tab. So my final charge was $50.04. Which an $18 tip on my tab, which is not 7%. Anyway...just think patrons should be aware and honestly think the business could do better. Otherwise the server was really nice and they had lots of fun drink options!

The brunch is AMAZING! Beignets were to die for! TJ and Samuel were super friendly. Will definitely return.

Yelp
This place was cute and food was bomb! The customer service was top tier!!!I'll definitely be back real soon.

Ajasia B.

Yelp
Our experience from the moment we walked in was horrible. While we understood the restaurant was packed due to the game, we had a reservation for 5 PM and still had to wait outside until a table became available. Even then, no one ever came back to escort us to our table. The service throughout the entire visit was incredibly disappointing. This was by far one of the worst dining experiences we've had. Once we were finally seated, we were told to get up and move because someone else had a reservation, even though we also had one. We moved a total of 3 times due to the fact they weren't organized as far as seating goes. This was by far one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had.

Yelp
Definitely a cool vibe, good food, KaeeBee! service was on point good energy very informative.

Yelp
Very poor customer service , waitresses are very rude especially with them getting automatic gratuity . would not recommend to no one

Yelp
The food and atmosphere was awesome. I love the Hookah and DJ also. Thanks Todi Fox for everything, I'll be back.

Freddie G.

Yelp
I guess since we now have the automatic gratuity that real customer service has gone out the door. We came to Fox Trap for the second time and the CS was lack luster. The food per order took approximately 37 minutes per order and that's lightly stated. The funniest thing is one of our guest ordered the $20 bottle of mimosas but was brought Rose'. When we received the ticket it was $40 and the waitress informed us that it was Rose' therefore it cost more. Ma'am that's not what we asked for nor is it even an item on your menu. She gave us the "oh well" and went on. The manager was cordial and offered a refund of the balance but the audacity of her to then take the remainder of the bottle and the glasses. Never do I expect to get anything for free but I will not allow you to charge me for something I didn't ask for. As the customer I had no idea that there was a price variable so I drank it. So I ask did you take the bottle to spite us or did you violate a food service code and serve this to another customer. Please let me know so I can now tag the Houston Health Department. INFECTION CONTROL!!! ??????

Kimberly W.

Yelp
Horrible experience. Took over an hour to get food, never got utensils, napkins or ketchup for our fries. And this is a bar right? Wrong, never got my drink even after the manager came over. They didn't even bring by water talking about they ran out of cups and glasses. How are you a bar and can't serve a drink!! Go anywhere but here.

Crystal G.

Yelp
Amazing !! amazing !!!! amazing is all I have to say !!! Our fox name was CICI she took very good care of us. The hookah are smooth as hell and can't be a little addictive. I'll be perfect with a lot of space. The best part was the pool tables and the DJ. THE DRINKS ARE 1000%. DELICIOUS ... sorry I don't have any photos to show you guys, but I had the catfish SLIDERS which came with 3 sliders and french fries BUT when I tell you, I COULD only eat one of the sliders, baby honey hear me out the slider was so filling.

Cloe C.

Yelp
AMAZING EXPERIENCE! You have to check this place out. It has it all: exceptional service, sports bar/hookah lounge with ambiance, not to mention great food and music. Checked all the boxes for my first choice to just hang-out!

H B.

Yelp
Beware you will be tipping twice. The deceptive practice of not informing your guest that they will automatically add a 20% gratuity. They will have nothing visible showing an itemized list of everything you're paying for. Then when the young lady comes with the computer in her hand to cash you out. At the end of the transaction there is an option for a tip, not knowing you're tipping twice.

Son F.

Yelp
So when we walked in we were immediately greeted and might I add the tv screens playing the Saints game was an added plus. The tables and atmosphere were clean and welcoming. We were then set in the main dining hall and the service was GREAT. Chey was on point and her recommendations were spot on from the drinks to the food. Lastly the ambiance was top tier as well. We ordered the catfish and grits 10/10 and the French toast with a lamb chop 10/10. Only minor comment is the a la carte lamb chop is only 1. Other than that the place is bomb.

Thomas W.

Yelp
Ask for Todi! She made sure I was good! Lamb chops and Mac & cheese was fye! Make sure you go see her

Kevin T.

Yelp
Great location and the service was great. Big thanks to the bartender, Todi. I highly recommend her.

Victoria E.

Yelp
This place is everything I've been looking for!! The soft opening was great! Food and drinks A1. Hookah was wonderful! Overall the vibes were there!!! Definitely will be coming back! I think I just found my new Sunday Funday!

Javelle B.

Yelp
I wish I could give 0 stars!!!! Where do I begin?! My family and I made a reservation 3 weeks prior to the date we wanted which was 9/29 to watch a football game. It was suggested to do this on busy Sundays to ensure we didn't have to wait and had a secured spot- so this is exactly what we did. Our reservation was for 10 people. We arrived and I immediately noticed there were people sitting in the area where we reserved! The confused hostess says " oh that is because a larger party got here before you" I asked why would anyone be seated in an area that is reserved?? We then asked to speak to the manager Gloria who was inundated with other issues and she stated this has been an ongoing issue at the restaurant on game days and a specific group that comes in trumps all reservations made with them directly. Where they do that at?? How unprofessional and unorganized can you be! Isn't the point of a reservation to SECURE A SPOT? After 30 minutes they finally seat us in a different area. We TRIED to order our food around 12:30 with the waitress Lena and after taking 4 of the 12 orders she said the kitchen was on pause and no more orders could be taken. The manager then came by 30 minutes after that and said Lena shouldn't have told this to us and in fact we could order (SMH) so we proceeded. We also ordered a mimosa tower. Another 20 minutes go by and Lena says they are out of Champagne and only have 1 bottle of Rose' left so if we want that option we needed to " hurry up" and tell her before its gone. We oblige since we really didn't have a choice. SOME of the food came to us in THE THIRD QUARTER OF THE GAME OVER TWO HOURS AFTER WE OREDERD. One person had chicken and waffles and only the chicken came out and finally the waffle an hr later! The Mimosa tower tasted like it had no alcohol in it whatsoever. It was NOT 3 liters as advertised either! Some of my party ended up cancelling their food. How embarrassing to invite someone to a place and service is this horrible! The TV'S kept going out the ENTIRE GAME! Although the food tasted good It does not make up for the HOORIBLE EXPERIENCE we had! The environment was too chaotic and and everyone seemed all over the place with no direction. The owner was running around like a chicken with his head off. I will NEVER EVER return to this place!
