Best Dishes Eater Austin’s Editor Ate This Month: March 2025 | Eater Austin

"Set in a boutique hotel just outside Round Top, a coursed dinner by an Austin chef delivers airy, summery dining in a pastoral setting (there’s land nearby with goats and horses). Highlights include a standout kale salad and some of the softest, most flavorful gnocchi the reviewer has encountered—pillowy gnocchi plated in a cream sauce with shiitake mushrooms that add a satisfying umami punch. The meal feels refined yet relaxed, well suited to a countryside getaway." - Brittany Britto Garley

The Best Restaurants and Bars in Round Top | Eater Austin

"Aside from being one of the top lodging options in the area thanks to its tranquil decor and outdoor area, the Frenchie is also a delightful place to dine. Nick Middleton, the chef behind Austin restaurant Y Comida, has created an a la carte menu that pairs well with the atmosphere, including a green Caesar kale salad and pillowy gnocchi plated in a cream sauce with umami-loaded shiitake mushrooms. Diners can also take the thought out of dinner by opting for Middleton’s three-course meal, which should always end with the pistachio panna cotta. Cocktails here are also delightful, with gin-fueled lavender blueberry lemonade and plenty of bubbles." - Brittany Britto Garley

The perfect girls’ getaway from city life! Our weekend at The Frenchie Boutique Hotel in Round Top, Texas was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with charm, character, and countryside elegance. If you're looking for a peaceful escape from the hustle of city life, this is it. Every detail of the property feels intentional — from the artfully designed rooms to the cozy common areas that invite you to slow down and soak it all in. The landscape alone is worth the trip: wildflowers in bloom, beautifully manicured lawns, and horses grazing just across the way on a neighboring property — it was like stepping into a dreamy Texas postcard. One of the absolute highlights was our curated private dinner on the property. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, locally inspired, and absolutely delicious. But it wasn’t just about the food — it was the laughter, the heart-to-heart conversations, and the unforgettable moments shared under the twinkling string lights that made it truly special. In the mornings, sipping coffee in robes while looking out over the grounds was pure bliss. And the peaceful quiet? Just what we needed to reconnect — with ourselves and each other. Thank you to The Frenchie for creating such a beautiful space to rest, laugh, and just be. We’ll be back — and we’ll be bringing more friends with us

First, the staff, more specifically Hillary and Ben are top notch! The property is beautiful and our girls trip was amazing. The pool is on the smaller size for large parties and for other guest to all be out there. And the rooms need larger trash cans! Other than that, we can’t wait to go back.

This was our second year visiting The Frenchie for a girls weekend, and unfortunately, it’s gone downhill since last year. The drink and food prices have noticeably increased, and considering the small portions and average quality, it no longer feels worth it. On top of that, during our first night, we were woken up at midnight by the fire alarm—definitely not the relaxing getaway we were hoping for. To make matters worse, our bedsheets had large, mysterious stains, which was really off-putting and unacceptable at this price point. Sadly, I won’t be returning. The charm and quality that brought us here the first time just aren’t there anymore.

My biggest complaint with this place is that I just needed more time there! lol The pool cabana rooms are amazing. The bed is so fluffy and soft. Customer service here is first rate. They completely take care of you. The tub…look at it! They will cook for you and serve your drinks as well. The tomato martini was amazing. It was like I was drinking the garden! The pool is very relaxing. It has waves that seem to also massage your body. It’s very gentle. The hot tub is also very relaxing. The music…I swear they were in my head or have similar tastes in music. It was on point! Highly recommend! I can’t wait to come back! I have a rare plant business and they had succulents everywhere which I really loved!

Absolutely loved our stay at The Frenchie! Such a charming and peaceful getaway — perfect for a girls’ trip. The property is beautifully designed with thoughtful details everywhere, and the atmosphere was so relaxing. My friends and I had the best time unwinding and exploring Round Top. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a stylish and serene escape!

This is such a cute photo worthy country style boutique! It was my first time visiting and I was invited by my bestie Carmen! Rooms are clean and pretty! Food was great also! Definitely recommend!

This place was such a gem. I stayed here for a girls weekend in May and not only was the location so cute, the customer service was amazing. Things to note: The room reservations are actually just a bedroom, not a private area, unless you book a specific type of booking. I stayed in room #1, which was 1 of the 6 bedrooms in a house that shared bathrooms, kitchen, breakfast nook, and dining tables. The house decor is stunning!!!! Truly beautiful and so calm/quiet. The restaurant food here is delicious as well! I tried the Caesar salad here and I still crave it to this day. The food is a bit pricey, but worth every penny. For example, the Caesar salad is $25, the French fries are $15, and the steak and frites is $65. Once again, WORTH EVERY PENNY. For my girls who love a good cucumber gimlet/martini, the cucumber water cocktail here is amazing. I also paid $100 cash for my full body massage here and wow, one of the best experiences. I’m going back for my birthday and I’m so excited to use their bonfire and pickle ball areas this time around. Highly recommend visiting when it’s warm so you can enjoy the pool and relax.

Yelp
Loved this stay in Round Top! We came out for the Winter Show and loved this place even in chilly temperatures. They offered fire pits and hot tubs that were great We loved: Complimentary hot tea and coffee. Refrigerators in the rooms and glassware/cups for your own bevies. They offer games (if you're into a little cards or something with the ladies) and music throughout the property (ends at 10pm). Very comfortable beds and pillows with daily room cleaning and fresh towels. Pro tips: You could bring stuff to cook breakfast and use the full kitchen in the main house. There aren't many breakfast options in Round Top. You can also book the chef ahead of time to cook for you! Some rooms don't have very good coverings in the windows so if privacy is important, try room 7! Great location and private. Very quiet! We never heard a thing from any other guests. There are no hangers, so if you have something to hang bring some to use with the coat hooks they provide.

Yelp
We arrived for a mother daughter weekend and as we drove up our excitement grew. The property is adorable, and we picked up our keys at the pool house for our room in the main house. The farmhouse decor is simply charming, and there's a huge common area on the first floor and large well appointed kitchen you can reserve as well. Spent a couple hours poolside with many other women guests (I know they say it can be a couples getaway, but I feel like it's best suited for a girls trip!). After we were rested from our long drive, we were ready to explore the town, with many walkable destinations. The pool bungalows and pickleball court, plus the fire pits and lounging areas around the property and on the porches, are all great additions and we can't wait to take advantage with our morning coffee! Texting, booking, and communicating with the chef are all easy to do - they have thought of everything!

Yelp
THIS PLACE Y'ALL!!! The most darling boutique hotel I've ever stayed in. The attention to detail is just *chefs kiss* Speaking of chef, the hospitable and sweet Jesse took such great care of us! We had brunch and he made us feel like absolute superstars with his handcrafted cocktails and delicious breakfast. He's wonderful and made our stay so special!!! Felt like we were in our very own Barbie dream house! My only issue with this place is that I DONT WANT TO LEAVE!!! book your stay here you won't regret it!

Yelp
$600/night! for an awful mattress, noisy at night (music and partying women) & unable to reach anyone when called regarding the noise! We were so exhausted we just left immediately early the following am. In addition, no safe, the plants around the place are all nearly dead or dead (sad looking), no drawers for your clothing (we had to live out of our suitcases for 2 nights!) The price they command is absolutely ridiculous. I came with a friend to attend the antique sales; and IF I ever come back for antique sales/shopping, I would not ever return to this place. If you are just looking for a stay in the country, check out a genuinely quaint and very nice place: The Blair House in Wimberley: huge area for your stay, great masseuses, 5-star chefs...everything you would expect and still pay LESS THAN $600/night. Now, I understand they jacked up the price because of the antique sales in the area for the month of October...but believe me when I say $600/night is grossly obscene for this place & $200 would still be an overly-priced stay! Frenchies was a HUGE disappointment...don't make the same mistake I made... pick a different place!

Yelp
This is an amazing property! When you walk in the main house, it smells like you entered a spa! The house is decorated with great thought to detail & comfort in mind. The bedding is so comfy with fabulous pillows. The soaking tub is marvelous. Gorgeous grounds, with pool and hot tub. Not to mention the pool house is actually a great bar and restaurant. The Chef made us tasty cocktails & a tasty cheese board. The entire stay was perfection! Book it quick!

Yelp
THE BEST BOUTIQUE HOTEL I'VE EVER STAYED AT! I've stayed at many B&Bs in the Round Top area, but I just heard about The Frenchie and took a risk and tried a place I didn't have any personal recommendations to go to, and IT WAS AMAZING. A few highlights/tips/thoughts: *Every room you walk in is so special! You will love the pics you will get at this place. (But warning, you'll want to totally redecorate your home when you get back!) *The privacy--sometimes, in boutique hotels or B&Bs, I feel a little too close to others. Every room is private, with a private bathroom. And even though the place was full, it never felt crowded. I was there to work, and there were plenty of beautiful places for me to camp out at both inside and out. *The food/drinks/coffee--They have the most adorable coffee makers all over the property with it ready to make (and it's actually good coffee, not hotel coffee). There is a private Chef on the property ready to make you anything on the menu. Next time I'm going with friends so I can do the multiple-course meals! *AMAZING bed & pillows: This is a major complaint I've had at other places like this, but you will want to buy a pillow from their shop because they are made of pure magic. *I felt super safe: This mostly matters for anyone who is planning to come solo, as I did. Sometimes I feel very vulnerable in certain places, but safety wasn't once a concern for me while staying at the Frenchie. *Outside: There are wrap-around porches to sit on, private porches if you rent one of those rooms/spaces, an adorable outside wading pool, and a hot tub! And all of it backs up to this private farm, so you get to look out at a field of horses while you relax! It was like something out of a movie. I cannot recommend The Frenchie enough. I texted all my friends while I was there, and we are already planning our next girls' trip! (Although I totally had fun all by myself too!)
