"First, there was the last remaining location of the Night Hawk diner chain, the Frisco, which closed in July." - Nadia Chaudhury

"Austin will lose the Frisco Shop on July 29. It’s more than a diner, it is a relic of the past. A place where, to this day, any walk of life can go eat a down-home meal, delivered by a kind server who has worked there for decades. Where children drink miniature mugs of root beer and maybe get some extra fries from the kitchen. Where parents dig into a belly-busting burger or chicken-fried steak — because, to be clear, the Frisco is not a place where anyone leaves hungry. The interior is too dark for social media-perfect photos, but the love and commitment to quality hasn’t faded one notch since it opened in 1953." - Erin Russell

"The Frisco, the last remaining location of Austin’s Night Hawk diner chain, is closing in Brentwood. Its last day of service on 6801 Burnet Road will be on Sunday, July 29. Frisco’s shutter is because of 'changing demographics, increasing competition, and an already tight labor market,' according to a statement by co-owners R. Harry and Julia Akin." - Nadia Chaudhury

Visited The Frisco on a Sunday in hopes for brunch. They don't do brunch, but they serve breakfast all day, which I love! Traditional American style food, pancakes, bacon, burgers, eggs in a ton of styles - actually our waitress Cory knew a lot about them, and she did a great job attending us - entrees with a bunch of alternatives, and an impressive variety of desserts, pies, cakes and more. Good mimosas, too! I would say an awesome opportunity to go for sugar and food choices that appeal to a well deserved self indulgent Sunday mood. it's true that we encountered a few members of the golden age, but to be fair, we also encountered youthful hipsters that probably live at the trendy and expensive condos next door, not to mention that we also found some Icon of Austin music and friends, with stylish hair, looks and all. Honestly, the place resembles old times in a way that I enjoyed very much. Good staff. Clean nice restrooms. Lots of dark mysterious wood inside, with warm light from the ceiling, kinda dark, actually. I will totally go back for more.

I am giving this venue four stars for the ambiance and customer satisfaction. The food was edible but not 'wow' enough to rattle the earth so I will give it three stars. A few months ago, I was on location here doing an ABC TV pilot and my role was a diner, how appropriate. I didn't actually eat the food as I was perusing the menu before ordering. I saw some items that were making my mouth water and to put salt in the wound, I was sitting at a booth where I was staring at some of my favorite adult beverages but couldn't get a single drop. Upon entering The Frisco, I was immediately surrounded by that old world charm, love the ambiance! I was warmly greeted and escorted to the booth where I sat on set and shortly after, my server, Tyler, arrived to take my drink order. The only thing different this time was that I was able to order a libation to partake of. I ordered the Catfish Strips with my sides being, black beans, cilantro rice, and garlic Texas toast. I was really disappointed with the catfish strips as it was quite clear that they were not hand battered and fried. I did enjoy the black beans and ciilantro rice. The Texas garlic toast could have stayed in the toaster a little longer. All in all, I had a very pleasant experience, stepping back into time. I will definitely return to try some other items on the menu as today I just made the wrong choice. Also, The Frisco is also a Yelp* Cash Back venue where you get 10% cash back.

No frills diner with really friendly staff! Not the original location, but still had an older, established feel to it. Yummy comfort food and breakfast all day. Good kiddo menu with lots of options and cheap!

The chicken and dumplings were top notch. They were proud of the migas but I was bored by them. Desserts are fantastic. The staff was great. Bathrooms were clean and had unique changing tables for the kids.

This place is about as old Austin as it gets. Food is decent but not the zing people expect nowadays. It's a fun jaunt down the road of culinary history. Pies are good. I like the chop'd streak even tho I usually don't like that dish. Nothing makes sense here which is what's so fun (chopped steak with baked potato served with a pickle? And garlic toast? So weird).

Been here twice. First time was 4 stars. This time 0 stars. 2 average. First off, what kind of breakfast place doesn't have eggs benedict??! The first time was really good. Had good food and good service. Remember enjoying my visit. Second time, sat at the rail. Server never wiped area down, just flopped dirty menus on top of left mess from previous customer. Food was bad. Breakfast came with french fries, not home fries. Breading on chicken fried steak was grey and slogged off when cut. Meat was shoe leather tough and tasted off. Couldn't finish meal. I wish I would have written review after first visit. I can't really remember it in detail now, but I know it was good, or wouldn't have came back. I probably won't be back now.

Hungry for the famous Frisco burger from 1953? This is your place. Inside is old, wooden, dimly lit, and generally grimey and oily. But the menu is expensive, they have gluten free, and they serve breakfast all day. Everyone is extremely friendly and the service is fantastic. This is a cult classic type of Diner; not your modern spick-and-span squeaky clean sanitized franchise with only teen employees. If you haven't been to a place like this or you haven't been in many years it's worth a trip.

Crazy long wait even at 11am on a Sunday, but the food was very tasty, and the staff was great. They even offered a sample of the soup of the day to help us figure out what we wanted to order.
