4 Best Day Trips from Austin

"Inside this converted farmhouse, food is heavily influenced by local produce. It helps that the restaurant owners run a nearby nursery. Expect filling salads and sandwiches that'll re-energize you to finish a day of antiquing. Lunch reigns supreme here, though the menu grows to include more meat options at dinner. If the weather is nice enough, sit out on the large rear patio that's shaded with a century-old oak tree." - Mandy Ellis

Really enjoyed the stopover on our drive from Houston to Austin- food was great, service attentive and the ambience was relaxed and fun. We basically ordered every single starter and they were very good. Especially the Brussels sprouts. The lamb burger was outstanding as the feta lands a lovely twist to the eat feel - felt almost like a Mediterranean kebab in the burger! The pecan bread pudding was lovely though the cheese cake was not spectacular That said - the prices were more like Boston or NY than schulenburg!!!

Everything I've ever had here was outstanding. My wife's favorite is the portobello stuffed mushrooms, with a blue cheese burger. My favorite is the farmer Fred burger. Anything off of the menu is great. Prepared to order and always delicious.

Several great options for lunch can be found here. I had the Shrimp Po’ Boy and it was very good. My coworker ordered a sandwich and he enjoyed it too. This is a great place to stop if you’re hungry and commuting between San Antonio and Houston.

The location and building was lovely. The service was very indifferent - not overly friendly but not rude either. It seemed like the kind of place where the service should reflect small town charm and should be really warm and welcoming, but it wasn’t. Out of everything we ordered, the brussel sprouts were the best. They were fantastic. The margarita pizzas were pretty good, the grilled cheese was tasty (however with the number of cheeses I did expect there would be a thicker and more gooey amount of cheese like some other gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches we’ve had though), and the chicken fried steak sandwich was also ok. We wouldn’t hurry back, but might stop again sometime to try something else.

Fabulous Service Excellent Food Have been passing this place by for about 5 years now& never the opportunity w stop in and eat. So glad my wife and I finally had the opportunity to sit down and enjoy a meal here at this wonderful restaurant. You will not be disappointed, stop in and enjoy anything on the menu. Oh, by the way if the restaurant isn’t enough……There is a gorgeous nursery on premises, with some of the most beautiful plants and trees.

Oh my my my, this place is a little slice of heaven. The atmosphere, the food, the service. I loved every bit of it. I had the BBQ Texas pizza and it was delicious. My wife had roasted chicken dinner and I was snacking off her plate too it was so good. I also had the jalapeno chicken bacon wrap bites and it was mmm mmmm. Great appetizer. Be sure to check this place out. Beautiful garden too and the patio and well just get here.

Had lunch today, which was our second visit. First time was back in 2018 when we were out on a day trip looking at the local painted churches. Both visits were outstanding, and the high review ratings are well-earned. Yes, the Brussel sprouts appetizer is totally worth it, even if you don't think you like such a thing. I had the gourmet grilled cheese sandwich with an outstanding chutney and Dijon mustard to go with it. My wife had the fish tacos, which were awesome and extremely filling. The Mexican street fries that came with them had an awesome spice mix on them. Last quality test: The ice tea. In our experience, you can often tell whether a place is going to be good just based on its tea. This cafe has outstanding, strong ice tea. Bonus! Cool venue, excellent food, and great service across the board. Highly recommended.

Amazing place with the best service, delicious food and very dog friendly! Our server Carol was fantastic and the rest of the staff were great! Very beautifully landscaped with the Garden area and nice outdoor seating. Be sure to get the Brussel Sprouts and Pecan Bread Pudding! 100 stars! ⭐️
