"After more than two years, The General is closing at 2528 N. California Avenue. The restaurant/bar made a name for itself with its pies, creative cocktails and tacos. Saturday is last call." - Daniel Gerzina

Taco's are slightly on the pricey side but they are pretty good! The fried chicken Taco was pretty darn good. The order of the guacamole comes in a good portion for the price and tastes yummy. Also they have an everyday $4 boot beer special! Gotta love some beer in a boot. The place is a very chill environment where music takes the background and having normal voice level conversations take the foreground!

Absolutely fantastic! The comedy show on Wednesday was hilarious and free! Got seats at the bar and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. Josh and Izzy are the best! Every dish was splendid and unique. Can't recommend the fried chicken taco enough. Very reasonably priced for the experience. The only complaint is that they were out of pie because it's just that good! How can I fault them for killing it? New favorite spot.

Really relaxed and cool atmosphere. Tried every taco on the menu and had no qualms with any of them. So so good. Two patios to choose from and a multitude of unique beers. Make it a point to go try this place, should become a local gem if they keep on point.

Current daily special is $8 for a 12 oz beer of the day, shot of rye whiskey and a taco. Cant remember what the whiskey was but it made a great sipper, and the beer wasn't some cheap PBR or anything either. The taco selection is pretty solid. We got the pork shoulder and fish tacos, both of which were really good, but maybe somewhat small for the four dollars they typically charge without the shot and beer. The waitstaff is also really nice, the service was great and the atmosphere was nice. Lots of outdoor seating, nice interior and the tacos are made at a bar visible to guests.

Loved the beer selection and the Catfish tacos were just what the Dr. ordered after a couple obeverages. Try the Volcano beer.

Old school, Western punk bar/mercantile. Super friendly staff, awesome craft cocktails, and great beer/liquor selection (also available to go). Delicious food menu with a rotating taco of the month. Home of the daily $8 boot/shot/taco special and BOGO tacos on Tuesday. Bluegrass brunch on weekends. Happy to call this my neighborhood go-to.

I'd say this is more Southern than Mexican, maybe like 75% Southern and 25% Mexican at most. Came here as a group of 4 and was seated immediately. Nothing on the menu was sounding too appetizing and I thought $8 for a chicken and waffle taco was pricey. But that was kinda the only thing I wanted. It was actually really good and since it came with a side of house potatoes, I'd say it was worth the $8. I ain't mad bout it. My friend ordered chicken tortilla soup and for that cup it was $6.. that was outrageous though.. definitely not worth the $6 for that. The chips and choice of 2 salsas was definitely worth it since the chips were plenty (though we could have used more to finish off the salsas, but maybe we were too conservative with the salsas anyhow). Our 2 salsa choices were the mango salsa and the smoked verde salsa - both good. All in all, I wouldn't suggest to come here but if it was a friend's suggestion, I wouldn't protest.

Looks like a cowboy bar. Doesn't play country music! Love it. $5 shot/beer combo, good rotating list of drafts. Speciality cocktails and a "punch of the week". Food reasonably priced and very tasty. Quiet place, but big enough to accommodate your lively group of friends. My new favorite spot.
