Where To Eat Lunch In Shoreditch

"A pub lunch you say? Oh I couldn’t! Oh yes you can. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be a three-pints-of-Stella lunch though (but don’t let us stop you if that’s what you’re after). Head to the George & Vulture and combine pints with pizza for the most holy of matrimonies since wings following whisky. Sodo does some extremely tasty sourdough pizzas and their residency in a Shoreditch pub is convenient to say the least. There are loads of big tables here, so this suits a group looking to share the menu with one or maybe two (or maybe three?) pints." - team infatuation

Where To Eat Outside In Shoreditch

"If you’re looking for a pub meal in Shoreditch, The George and Vulture is out of the way enough to be relatively peaceful and, more importantly, Sodo make the pizzas here. At around a tenner a go, the pizzas are great value, as crispy as you like, and make for a social and sensible pub lunch spread out on the sizeable pavement area outside." - oliver feldman, heidi lauth beasley

The George & Vulture Review - Shoreditch - London - The Infatuation

"Pub lunches don’t always have to be of the liquid variety. If you’re after some actual sustenance in a nice pub environment, then you can’t do much better than The George and Vulture. It’s out of the way enough to be relatively peaceful and, more importantly, Sodo Pizza have popped up with a residency there. At around a tenner a go the pizzas are great value, as crispy as you like, and make for a social and sensible pub lunch that doesn’t have to end in a regrettable “sorry, I’m not going to be coming back to the office” email." - Jake Missing

Where To Eat Before Or After A London Gig - London - The Infatuation

"You’ve had a few drinks. Well you’ve had more than a few drinks. You’ve had so many drinks you’re listening to the warm up band on Spotify from your phone and you’re trying to convince everyone ‘they’re gonna be big’. Good thing Sodo Pizza are at the George and Vulture. Get one of these down you - we’re partial to the squash and feta one - and get your head together before you start DMing the warm up about their burgeoning talent." - Heidi Lauth Beasley, Jake Oliver

Lovely great outdoor space! On a sunny day nothing better, close to roads, but very quiet roads. Good selection of beers, a few crafts in there. Pizza was good quality, crispy and nice, special toppings versions.

Hidden Gem: Everything everywhere all at once, this pub is worth going a bit further for. Classic, grand, London, Victorian corner pub. Narrow corner doors with proper vintage pub locks lead to a spacious hall bar, with a high ceiling and retained Victorian decorative detail everywhere; coving, large, round cornered windows, well decorated with hanging light chains, vintage flip down overlook windows, decorated pillars, fireplace, beautiful flower lights over the bar and aged chandeliers. A great loved in feel and decorations that work from the silver tray and painted vintage mirrors to the decorative ceiling and wall paper. Superb draught beer selection and everything for everyone, including board games 🎲 dog menu. A hood range of seating, with good shared spaces, a good vibe of groups of friends creating a good vibe relaxed buzz. Good, calm, attentive service. The electrician went over the top with the web of cable trunking. Plenty of outdoor seating for London street drinking. A great all rounder worth travelling a bit further.

Google
Heavenly pizza from SODO. Most incredible staff going above and beyond to make sure Wellington doesn't miss out on pizza too so gave him some pepperoni 🍕 🐶 Super dog friendly, they even have their own dog menu with dog beer and many other dog treats, along with a jar of treats for fluffy friends to help themselves.

This is a super pub. Welcoming atmosphere. Dog friendly. Good choice of beers. Excellent pizzas (the only food option). Twelve of us enjoyed lunch yesterday. Great service. Fun. Good location.

We have been coming to the George & Vulture for our team drinks since 2024 and the team always have a great time, the drinks are well priced and the staff are very friendly. The outdoor space is always a winner and there are plenty of tables inside. Booking the space is always super easy

Google
Nice old pub. Has outside seating as well, which is great for the better weather. Staff seemed friendly enough and efficient. Didn’t have the biggest selection of beers, but enough. Would go back.

The pizza and drinks are fantastic, the staff are great, but unfortunately their prices are extortionate for drinks even for the area.

Yelp
Really great sourdough pizza! (by Sodo) I visited this pub a few times when I first moved to the area. It was fine. A nice local with comfortable ambience and traditional Italian food. Nothing really out of the ordinary and I never really thought to return. A typical 3-star affair if I ever saw one. On a surprisingly sunny Sunday my husband recommended that our group of 4 head here for the pizzas. I was doubtful (as I remembered the very heavy/garlicky former fare) but hungry, so I agreed. I just figured he had had pizza off the menu at some point. BUT NO! In fact, George & Vulture made a very sound decision and now their entire menu is produced and carried out by the dudes at Sodo. A fine looking menu of oven-fired sourdough crust pizzas floated by me and soon enough (very quick actually) our foursome was enjoying the Dirty Boy (lots of meat!), the Cured Meats (obvious) and the Goats Cheese pizza with rocket. All were absolutely delicious, light/thin crust and went great with the beers outside at the picnic tables. They also have a short list of starters (olives, burratina, salad) that I will try next time, along with the desserts. And the wine. And more pizza, please. More of that pizza! They even have you gluten-freerers covered, they do a pizza on broad bean baked crust. Now, there you have it! If you really get hooked they have a Monday special (I think 2 for 1) for keyholders. Keys cost just £5. I don't know the details but if you are a Monday regular that 5 quid investment would surely be worth it. Ales, beers, etc all standard. Service is always just fine. Gets busy with the after work crowd (especially in nice weather as their side walk real estate is plentiful and side street unbusy) -- but the weekends are actually quite pleasant and full of neighborhood folks and revelers alike. It's a cozy pub in the winter as well. I look forward to being more of a regular now that I know the food is up to snuff. Sodo link: http://sodopizza.co.uk/hoxton.htm (they have other locations as well!)

Yelp
I popped into here last night for the takeaway Lorena pizza. It was busy but I still got a space at the bar. For £8, the pizza is a steal. I'm a self-professed pizza snob and I loved the thin crust, tomato sauce and lovely butternut squash chunks. Even my carnivore husband liked the pizza which says a lot! I'm surprised it was so good actually as I ate at the Sodo location in Walthamstow and was nonplussed. Overall not the best pizza I've ever had- Yard Sale and Joe's in Clapham is still superior- but definitely a solid pub pizza.

Yelp
Very nice roast spot. Friendly staff, simple menu, large interior Space and tables outside all helping you spend a good time there. Menu consists of a few roast options beef pork chicken veal or the whole set less chicken, served with the usuals veg and pudding in sauce. Delish. Did not try any sides or starters but I saw a bake Camembert that I want to try next time. Multitude of beers on tap and casks and among them Hoegarden perfect for a sunny Sunday drinking day. Great spot, great vibe, nothing to through here. Go and try you should not be disappointed at all.

Yelp
Came in to grab some good food near a friends house. Looks like a spacious and typical british pub, but they serve Italian food. I've only had the DEEElicious calzone. And it was big too. Shared with said friend and still was satisfied. I likes to eat, so that's saying something. I don't remember what I drank. I think I just got a cider so not sure about our bartenders skillz. Bartender was super friendly despite being tired. I forgot why he was tired. But he said he was. But still smiled and chatted. It was a Friday evening, fairly quiet. Whatevs, I'm a fan. I want to go back and try some other menu items.

Yelp
As the three stars indicate, the George & Vulture is 'A-OK'. It's a pub that feels spacious, clean, and relaxed - good for times when you find yourself around Hoxton Square and fancy a casual drink with friends. But it's not really a pub I'd be eager to visit over and over again. I visited on a Sunday evening when I knew that Sodo pizzas would be on the menu. The beer selection was all right, but not hugely exciting - three Fuller's beers and the standard lagers. The pizzas were also not up to par with the actual Sodo restaurant in Clapton (so PLEASE don't judge the quality of Sodo based on what you get here!). The crust was too thin and it just didn't seem to be baked (cooked?) as well. Conclusion: Not the worst pub if you'd like to take a seat and have a pint, but it could do with better beer and making sourdough pizzas closer to Sodo standards.

Yelp
Saw this pub soon after moving to the area. Had a pool tablelooked a bit rough to be honestin keeping with the street it's on. So I dismissed it early on and never gave it a second look. Which is a shame as it has been transformed. No more pool, just a comfortable boozer serving a wide variety of drinks (including 3 ales when I was there) in a relaxed atmosphere. They have events such as quizzes and acoustic nights. These days it's well worth a visit.

Yelp
Came here for the Bacchus Sunday roasts that they do from 12:30-5 after reading some great reviews about it. The Sunday roast was INDEED quite amazing -- the only thing lacking was the gravy in my yorkshire pudding (but I guess I could have asked for that if I really wanted it -- so bad on my part). It was a lovely sunny day for once in London, so we sat outside. Great service and friendly staff. We asked why it was called the tallest pub in London and the waitress went to go find out herself. Laid back atmosphere and some good beers on tap. Oh and order the spicy bloody mary. The only thing that would have been the cherry on top would be a stick of celery in it :) Great atmosphere though and would come back.

Yelp
Yes i have reviewed this pub before. but im back to say tonight was a very special night.customers brought in inflatable palm trees, and dressed as heroes and legends,I met batman spiderman, Tina Turner,a guy dressed as a car think it was a renualt.Marelynn was awesome,oh yes the guy dressed as a plane, and many more like , there was so many who put a lot of time and effort into what was a great great night. This was a ladies birthday party, and she must be a very special lady, to have such good friends who did her proud,I spoke as I said to Spiderman and hes keen to have more of these nights , so if I hear its happening I will let you all know.Only a venue like the George and Vulture can spring these surprises, but qypers You will know as soon as I do.Trust me this was so different, photos soon

Yelp
The bar itself is really nice but the service is so poor I would not recommend it. I organize my leaving drinks there specially because we already came with my friends a month earlier and they allowed my friend with her baby and dog. This time though, it seemed to be a problem to have her standing outside with the baby in the pram and they not kindly asked us to leave (yes all of us) otherwise they would call the police. We tried to explain she was just staying an hour (she had to get the baby to bed so was just staying literally for one drink), that we would stay outside in the rain but they wouldn't hear us. The other customers tried to come to the rescue saying no one cared about a baby being there but same they wouldn't hear them. My friend said last time the same waiter was really arsy as well and would ignore them with the pizza saying they didn't pay for it. When he realized A/it was their pizza B/they paid he just dropped it on the table with a sigh and not even an apology. I've never seen a pub management so bad with their customers. We changed for the Eagle on City Road and they accepted everyone: the baby, the dog, my friend who looks like he's not paying for his food.

Yelp
Just off from the hustle and bustle of Old Street, I regularly come here, whether for a quick drink or a meal. The food is lovely; more pricey than that of the other pubs I go to in the area but definitely worth it, the chips and garlic breads and pizzas are lovely. I often buy myself a jar of sweets, a great unusual offering that goes well with any drink! There is no student discount here, but the staff are lovely, even when there are nearly 20 students filling most of the indoor seats! I know they have live music nights regularly.

Sara S.

Yelp
Had a great time here. Really unusual pizza. Make from scratch on the premises. Tasted delicious. ***LOVED*** the live music I experienced when I was there. [No TV WOOHOO!] I found the staff very accomodating and had a great evening here.

Yelp
My local pub in the heart of Hoxton. Always buzzing and has a great atmosphere. Have yet to try their Sunday roast which is supposed to be lovely. Their pizzas look gorgeous as well! Staff is friendly and I would recommend this place to anyone in the area, definitely one of the better pubs around here.

Yelp
This is one of my locals and I love it. Friendly staff, good beers, even a reasonably decent house wine. The space is really nice, too; they pay attention to detail (exceptional olives) and they do a mean pizza. I used to visit on Sundays pretty frequently since they hosted a Russian night, with fantastic live music - folky, warm, fun. I will pop in one Sunday soon to see if the night's still running.

Yelp
I've been looking to find a new local since recently moving to old street. While my new neighborhood is great for going to clubs, raging till 5 am and fitting in as a hipster on my fixie bicycle, I have had a hard time finding a place i feel comfortable going in alone for a pint and a bite on a weekday evening. However I feel that I may have found a bit of what I am looking for in the George and Vulture. On first glance there is nothing that really distinguishes it from any other pub. It is the little things that makes this place somewhere I plan on frequenting. I had a delicious pizza made on the spot along with a good salad. Additionally, this is the first place since moving here that the staff were extremely friendly. Instead of spending their down time exclusively on their cell phones, each of the 2 bartenders took a moment to come over to me and strike up a friendly conversation. A level of service rarely seen in a London pub.
google avatar

Marc S.

Yelp
After the re-opening, this place has changed. I don't bother going there anymore, the new staff is rude and aggressive.
google avatar

Marek Z.

Yelp
Delightfully pubby pub for a sunday catch up with that friend who is otherwise always too busy. High ceilings, warm wooden furniture, a cosy atmosphere and not all noisy, so you will actually hear each other talk - which is important, because you might not speak for a few months yet!
google avatar

Ada C.

Yelp
Lovely pub with big windows looking onto the street. We only had drinks but we could smell the pizza which was giving us food envy!

Qype User (katmab…)

Yelp
This is my local and the guys behind the bar are super friendly. Usually when I go for a pint it's during pub quiz or live music nights. There is limited seating and the eclectic range of old furniture makes navigation a bit hard, but on a quiet evening it's worth hitting the pub for their excellent pizzas and a bottle of wine. It's great value and tasty stuff.

Qype User (Carrot…)

Yelp
We popped in here on Saturday afternoon. It's a mellow place then, and you can sit out on the street-side picnic tables in the sun. We ordered a bowl of olives, and boy do you get olives, a whole lot of teensy olives. It was rather amusing, as there were only two of us. On Sunday we went back and ran into a bloke we know, and he's a big fan of this spot. He said it's been fixed up recently and the crowd changed a bit as a result, to more mellow folk. Pub quiz on Tuesday evenings if you're interested. I'd put this as a place to go if you're a local, rather than a destination.
google avatar

Qype User (ElenaD…)

Yelp
A cozy good looking pub hidden in the midth of Hoxton, serving an increadibly tasty home-made italian pizza (id say one of the best one in london) and has a very athmospheric acoustic live music from one of the best original singer-songwriters on Sundays, Weds and Sats! A must! Xx

Qype User (Lauren…)

Yelp
Wonderful spot to have a couple of beers with friends. My mates and I are a bit noisy party and these guys somehow don't mind and keep addressing us warmly and welcoming. I guess that's the kind of but it is. In addition, food is a delight.

Qype User (jfhect…)

Yelp
my favorite pub in Local, wish I was my local
