I've been to The Getaway before and absolutely loved it, that's why my most recent visit was so extremely disappointing to the point that I needed to come and write a review to provide management feedback.
I have a disability and use a mobility scooter. Like I said, I've been here before and had zero issues with accessibility and knew what to expect. I went on a Sunday, it was an absolutely beautiful sunny day so I knew the restaurant would be crowded, but was willing to wait a bit for a table. When I initially pulled in, the parking lot was full, but there was one disabled space open thankfully. Well, I thought. When I pulled up closer, I realized that there was a huge pile of rocks and dirt in the front half of the parking space, so there wasn't room for a car to be parked there - I think this is illegal? Obviously, I was bummed, but decided to circle the parking lot again in hopes someone was leaving.
Then, I saw ANOTHER open disabled space, what are the odds?! I live in Florida, and these spaces usually fill up quickly, so I was so excited. There was one car in front of me circling the parking lot, but they didn't have a disabled license plate or placard, so I truly thought I'd get the space after the passed it.
But, of course, they pulled into the disabled spot. I thought to myself, hmm, they must just be dropping someone off. There's no way that someone would park there that wouldn't need it. Well, I was very wrong.
They got out of their lifted Jeep, did not have any disabled placard, and proceeded to go into the restaurant.
I ended up circling, found a spot, and went inside. Only to realize, the person that parked in the disabled space, was someone that worked at the restaurant! She parked there because the lot was full and needed to get to work, not because she needed it. Definitely put a bad taste in my mouth about this place.
It was really frustrating and disheartening. And to top it off, the service was horrible and the food took nearly two hours to come to our table and when it did, the salads had no dressing and the fish wasn't cooked well. In hindsight, I should've just drove away when I noticed that first disabled spot.
Thankfully after talking to three different people, they slightly discounted our bill, but we had wasted 3 hours of our day to barely be served. Such a bummer. I hope they address the disabled parking space issue with their staff immediately.
