How the Espresso Martini Became Melbourne’s Essential Cocktail | Eater

"A cocktail bar where coffee is treated as a craft ingredient: bartenders here deliberate over roast and origin, with at least one preferring richer, darker roasts for traditional espresso martinis to maximize bitterness and aroma, illustrating the venue's focus on barista–bartender collaboration and ingredient-driven mixology." - Fred Siggins

This lush bar oozes atmosphere. It's sophisticated and whimsical in both decor and the drinks on offer. We had a light-hearted Negroni with serious smoky depth and a cute fortune cookie and something with reduced and dehydrated strawberries that should be sold in a jar it was so good. The dirty martini was so dirty it could have competed in the Mud Run. Our waiter Nick was charming, attentive and knowledgeable with just the right level of presence. We didn't eat but now I wish we had as everything was spot on. I can't believe I didn't know this place existed. What a secret hidden gem.

We visited here for Valentine's Day! Beautiful place, amazing vibe. Loved the decoration! We had a semi-private room for us! They had some special gifts for the Valentines!

I LOVE this very memorable top floor of the Hotel Esplanade. Like stepping back in time a hundred years, the historical upper floor features furniture, art and decor from the 19th century honouring the life of Alfred Felton who actually lived on these premises. Lots of nooks and crannies for privacy, conversation or just to explore, and a few different bars( check out the "Pharmacy") and seated lounges. Also notable are the uniquely decorated female toilets on this floor- gorgeous tiles and bright period colours. I attended a 1920s murder mystery evening and this was the perfect venue to play host, setting the scene perfectly. Food and drinks were average and costly- but the venue & it's unique atmosphere is an absolute star!🌟

How didn’t I know this louche bar was here? So decadent and the cocktails and smooth service were the perfect end to a fabulous weekend in Melbourne. How is there not a queue around the block for this hidden gem?

Had cocktails made by Nick and Seosamh, no food, but the cocktails were divine (highly recommend the Weight of Summer tequila cocktail)!! The view was stunning and amazing entertainment was being provided by Jess at the piano... Just a fantastic night 😍
