Lively sports bar with good service and polite staff. The prices are affordable, making it a great spot to hang out. They also have a speakeasy downstairs, where I attended a private event. It’s a pretty cool space with an exposed original brick ceiling, adding to the charm.

Stopped by for F1 racing, NFL, and a couple beverages... the place was busy but not packed. The staff were kind and helpful. We didn't eat but the food looked and smelled good. Good atmosphere.

Awesome place! There was a band playing music and it sounded great. The drinks are not too expensive so it's perfect for a quiet night out with friends.

Traditional dive bar located on the UWS. Cool vibes, great bar food - love the chicken tenders and tator tots. I've gone here over the years and always have a great time with my friends. The staff are friendly and professional. Watch your favorite sports teams on one the numerous flat screens. Music will have you boppin' and singing along. You can have a private party here too. I believe they have live music - bands playing on certain nights. Reasonably priced. Great Happy hour prices.

The bar itself is fine, but the jazz speakeasy is wonderful

Food is very good. Only place I've found fried Oreos in the neighborhood. Staff is always very welcoming and accommodating. While busy it's still comfortable. I'd recommend this place for all sports.

It's one of the most comfy places to hang out in the Upper West Manhattan. The staff are really nice and superhelpful. It can grt quite loud when it's packed, but it adds to the charm of The Gin Mill. Food is nice. Bonless Wings, Old Fashioned Sliders are great and would recommend them.

Wow, i haven't been here in awhile. I'm super glad to be back. I came here thinking they still had the $1 beer specials but I was wrong i think it might have beer their sister location that does this. Their Dr. Pepper Bombs are so delicious and only $6 on Wednesdays lucky me. The group I was with decided to get some pitchers because they are only $14. I saw that they have cheaper wings on the weekends I definitely will be coming back for that. They were regular price today $25.99 for 16. The service so far is great and the bartenders are nice. This definitely will be a place in my rotation when I'm on a budget. I absolutely love the decor in the place the chandler's are beautiful. I loved their food too! I have to try the friend oreos when I come back.

How have I never reviewed this place? UWS staple for many years. Laid back divey pub with great happy hour specials and good bar food. Gets packed at night but now that I'm old, I'm a day drinker and home by 9pm so that's a-okay for me. They have several sister locations throughout the city with a similar vibe and specials so no need to schlep uptown if you don't want.

I had ordered a Ceasar wrap and the kitchen messed it up 2 times! Food itself is subpar. Tbh, probably better off staying clear unless you want to be frustrated.

Phenomenal food, wonderful cocktails, and excellent service! Mike was the best bartender I've had on the upper west side! He knew exactly what to make for me and my friends when we were there watching the ravens game, and made my friends birthday extra special! The dollar wings were a highlight of the night and our other bartender, Lexi was crushing the vibes with her music selection! I will be coming back here time and time again.

I came here with a group of friends for lunch on a Sunday afternoon around 1:30p.m. There were 9 of us, and we were all able to get a table together without having to wait. I had the black bean burger with a side salad. It was pretty good. About what I'd expect at a sports bar. Our waitress was really nice and let us all pay using different cards, which we really appreciated.

This cold beer came to my stool in under 3 seconds after ordering it Marina the bartender here must enter some kinda fastest bartender in nyc competition every other beer came at a similar pace. Whenever I have been here my beer has been delivered in seconds

False advertising - I normally like this joint, but for there to be no signs and then tell you when tab is to be paid that all deals are excluded from St Paddy's day is a scam.

This is my home away from home. I've been coming to The Gin Mill for about 14 years. My cousin introduced me to this spot and I became hooked. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The ambiance is chill, dim lit. They have restaurant seating in the back if you want to bring your kids for a bite to eat. The best part...What bar do you know have happy hour from 11 am-7 pm?!? Not many! You can start a tab with a debit or credit card. All of the food is great but The wings are amazing!!! The morning/early afternoon crowd is mixed with older locals and some people on their lunch break will stop in for a bite and beer. The evening crowd is mixed but it's a lot of college students. If there's a game on, standing room only, so try and get there early.

A disappointing lack of signature drinks and uneven service, was sorry I spent a happy hour here during covid fall weather. There was really nothing that stood out about this place, besides it's averageness. It may be a dive bar but it lacked the low key, warm charm some might expect. The first issue was the hostess. She was not friendly and didn't seem to take interest in seating us. When we did sit down, the busboy was prompt and got us water (in 8 oz plastic cups). So, a mixed bag for service. The drink options were not memorable. Some local craft beer to supplement the usual Guinness option, but nothing "wow." San gria and mule options but no gin drinks. Fun fact: The waiter helpfully explained that a gin mill was a term for a bar, but not really related to gin. Another let down for this spot. The food, which is required by NY state law, was also average to forgettable. The sliders were fine but the Mac and cheese sliders were too doughy. Lastly, the vibe was low brow with upper west side prices. In other words, an overpriced dive bar. Not a great mix. Overall: try another dive bar or really, any other bar in the UWS.

Calling all Gators fans... this is the place to watch the games in NYC!! I was in NY for 5 weeks and needed my Saturday Gator football fix and the Gin Mill is where to go. It's a nice sports bar with lots of big-screen TVs inside and outside. This is a low-key sports bar on 81st & Amsterdam Ave in the UWS. Affordable bar food and the long 1/2 price happy hour from 3-7 every day. $5 draft beer is perfect for game day. Chicken Sandwiches are served grilled or fried and come topped with chipotle mayo and crispy fries. Wings are very good, come 8 to a regular order and are can be made Mild, Medium, Hot, BBQ, Honey Mustard. Hot was the perfect amount of spice. Great local bar with lots of regulars. Bartenders are friendly, IMO it's a win-win.

We had an engagement party in the speakeasy room downstairs. The staff was simply fantastic and they hosted a wonderful party. Katelyn the bartender was quick and efficient and kept everyone happy, Lexi the server helped us get organized pre party and Tony (securiity) kept the room secure from passersby trying to crash. Highly recommend the Gin Mill for a party.

Run of the mill bar in UWS. The day we went, there was a private party. Fortunately, we were there for the live music event held on Mondays in the Speakeasy portion of the venue (downstairs by the bathroom). Cocktails were fine - nothing special - but were affordable (taking into account location and such).

Great spot highly recommend. 2 California girls loved the vibe. We need a place like this in Southern California!

Had a very positive experience at The Gin Mill. Enjoyed the food and quick bar service. Six dollar whisky shots was another plus. Although it was crowded we were able to get seated. Would definitely go back.

Moronic security deterred me from getting a drink here- the guy was talking to someone else out on the sidewalk then tried to get in my face acting like I was supposed to know he was a security guard. Thanks but no thanks, will never give this place my business again. Honestly wouldn't surprise me to hear this place found itself on the wrong end of a lawsuit with their hiring practices.

Came here for a quick beer and to meet up with family members. We decided to stay and have a bite. The bartender/server was very friendly and hospitable. Great fries and excellent pulled pork sliders. Highly recommended!!

Great tater tots! This is def a bar where you'll meet a lot of locals and regulars. Everyone is friendly and open to being social. The bartenders are really nice too.

This is a pretty standard chill bar on the UWS. They have a decent selection of drafts and bottles/cans. You order at the bar and they have bar type food for order which is your typical dive bar standard fare. I got the nachos and they were about a 3/5, but hit the spot with a beer and were enough to share for 3 people at $12. The only reason for losing one star is service. Was hard to get the bartenders attention even on a slow day, but everyone has their days so not holding it against them. I'd definitely return or recommend for a chill and cheaper bar to kick back at.

Cannot beat the happy hour prices. But don't go there if you are over 50 unless you want to feel like an old creep. I suspect the staff is not happy. Morale seems low. Bar is owned by a company that owns a dozen "post-collegiate" happy hour bars. The Gin Mill was a great bar me and a large group of friends found to go to after brunch. They have tables in the front and a large open area in the back with stools and high tops. We hung out back there since we were a group of 10 The waitress and bar back were super friendly and made sure we always had what we need Would definitely recommend as a place to go with friends if you're in the area

Very fun bar with a beer pong table. I could of sworn I written a review already . I have been here plenty of times and always enjoyed it especially while on a budget. gin mill is a great spot to hang out with a group of friends. They always have some kind of deals and happy hour ^.^. The boneless wings are so good! And most of the other bar menu food. The service is great as well whether you're at a bar or table it's not usually hard to get someone to assist you. I love that price is very reasonable and that they have a good selection of beer and drinks. It's also in a great location as there are other bars in the area. Also heads up check depending what night you visit sometimes it can get crowded cause they have college night. They also have outdoor seating for when the weather it's nice out. Drinks are always good and never water down :)

We had a private party (pre-wedding) for 75 people in The Speakeasy. Was amazing party, service was excellent, music was fantastic, great ambiance, had one beer pong table for the younger crowd. Kayla our bartender was out of this world! Could make everything, was very quick, always had a smile, and had an abundance of positive energy, loved it. Highly recommend this venue.

Waitress was rude - expect to pay 20 percent for getting your own drinks.

This is a great neighborhood bar! It's a fun place to people watch, grab a drink with a friend, or just plan moving in together with your boyfriend (!!). We walked in a chill Saturday afternoon after grabbing Levain pastries down the street. We were looking to kill time before dinner and walked by this place. As we entered, we were greeted by the bar regulars who invited us to join them at the bar. The bartendress was a lovely lady who gave the down low on the specials and recommended a few drinks. We ordered a couple of beers that shocked us with the happy hour price, in a good way. The music was playing at a reasonable level, there were 2 games on, and it was just a really fun time. The interior had a wooden bar, much like the Dead Poet, but was much larger and an older crowd. We spent the afternoon here and were delighted to find a new local bar on the UWS. Will definitely be back for the cheap drinks and to try the menu as I am a sucker for bar food.

This place served as our happy hour meet after classes. We had just gotten done with a round of exams, and we were more than ready to unwind. The bar area on the ground has ample room, with seating along the entire stretch of the bar and enough floor space to not feel cramped. There is more seating toward the back of the bar, and there is some outdoor seating as well. The basement level is a bit smaller, but has tables for beer pong. Here is where everyone chose to congregate, so it was a bit hard getting around. Still, it was a good time playing beer pong with the classmates. The staff here took care of us, they were both friendly and attentive. The place was also maintained well, it was clean (including the restrooms!). This place was a good call for happy hour. I had a good time here.

Their happy hour prices here are AMAZING! Half off the entire bar till 8pm! Then they have different deals after that on certain days of the week. I came here last night because of their deals alone. I sat at the bar with my friend. In the beginning, the service was a little slow. It took a while for us to be able to place a drink order, probably because it was busy. I had a well vodka and soda. It was affordable and tasted good for the price. My friend and I split two appetizers. We had the chips and guac and potato skins. Both were yummy and just what your want from bar food. If you are looking for good happy hour deals, this is definitely the spot! It has a divey, fun vibe and was very lively for a Wednesday night.

Go for affordable bar food and the long 1/2 price happy hour if your shopping budget is maxed out for the day :) Definitely more of a Guys' Night, "Bro Bar," with super loud sports games on screens covering nearly every surface of the walls. My burger was good for the price, but the $12 cocktail I got (unknown to me, it wasn't included in happy hour as a "specialty drink"), was basically watered down juice. Our server was quick and kind, even though the place was jam-packed!

Looking for a traditional bar setting with great indoor and outdoor seating options, then this might be your place! Stopped by here for a quick meal after leaving the museum and I ordered a strawberry daiquiri as well as a plate of wings. First let me just say that the staff here is awesome, they work really fast and hard to get your orders in and out. The daquiri was delicious, just the frozen treat I needed on a hot Saturday. Side note, stop by for happy hour and you get $2 off frozen drinks! The buffalo wings were also great, they were slightly crispy and the sauce had just the right level of spiciness. Overall a great experience!

This is a low-key sports bar on Amsterdam Ave in the UWS. Can't really complain about anything because my wife and I went for beer, and we were served beer in a prompt manner. When our glasses were nearing empty, they asked if we wanted another round and so we did. We didn't try any of the food and we were there probably an hour or so. They had lots of various games on TV. The staff looked like they were having a good time. The beer was tasty. That's all for now!

They own Off the Wagon and a bunch of other sports bars which offer great deals! We came in on a Friday for happy hour (5-8pm) Interior - they have a bar area and the rest is for dining. There are also beer pong tables in the back. Overall very packed space though Service - great service!! Though they were extremely busy, our waitress was extremely friendly and responsive. Also during happy hour, it's half off the entire bar. Taste - had their gin mill burger and it was huge, my friends ordered chips and wings also, which were also the perfect combo with all the half off drinks we ordered. Will be my go-to place for happy hour in the future!!

Pretty good sports bar with lots of TVs. They have daily specials so watch out for that. Beer pong in the back. There are tables too, but seems like you gotta order with the hostess there and not at the bar. Solid spot to go with group of friends to enjoy the game or just chill.

The Gin Mill is located on the corner of 81st and Amsterdam. I came here with my coworkers just a little while ago. When I walked in, I noticed it was mostly a younger crowd (21-30 max) and that the bar was very full. Mind you, it was only about 7. I met my party in the back who were already playing beer pong. I went to go order my drink: a Coney Island Pilsner. The bartender gave me my check and I couldn't believe what I saw: I only owed 4 dollars!! 4 dollars for a premium craft beer! These crazy prices continued for the next couple of hours and I was very pleased. My stomach, liver, and wallet were very happy! I got the chance to try the mozzarella sticks, nachos, buffalo wings, sliders and chicken fingers. Everything was pretty good, albeit it's typical bar food. We also got to try these sweet potato poppers with spicy cheese sauce that were so delicious! The waitress came around often to make sure we were taken care of. The Gin Mill is owned by the same people who operate Off the Wagon, Jake's Dilemma, 3 Sheets Saloon, Down the Hatch and many of the other welcoming dive bars that are in Manhattan. I'll definitely be back whenever I'm in the area. The cocktails looked good so I hope I can sample that soon too!

I've come here a couple times to watch sports events, most recently to watch a Sunday afternoon football game. We got there about an hour before the game so there was still a lot of available seating and it was easy to order some drinks. They don't have a large selection of beers or other drinks, but the plus side is that it's pretty cheap for New York! The place itself is just a typical sports bar; nothing that really stands out about it. They also have large a downstairs room that is a little nicer than the upstairs with more tables. By the time the game started the place got much more crowded, and we were happy we were able to snag some seats early on! It was harder to access the bar, but still not too bad. The atmosphere was fun and no one got too rowdy. Overall, this is a decent sports bar in the Upper West Side, and I would come back for another game!

The gin mill never lets me down, great drink specials during the week. Co workers and I usually come here often after work. Food is decent and drinks are good, they are also related to jakes dilemma which is also a decent bar. For it to be located in the upper west side the drink prices are fair. AND THEY DO HAVE FROZEN MARGARITAS!

As always our favorite place to meet up.Gin Mill caters to all ages and the ambiance is welcoming. Kathlyn was our lovely server and was very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the nachos platter was awful.. cold hard cheese on top with just nachos underneath... disappointed. Our other favorite foods were good..

The gin mill is an ok spot to grab a beer and watch tv. Its teetering on the line of sports bar and dive bar, which is cool and works for them. Dark and cozy inside, definitely a "regulars" type of spot, solid tap options.

One of those bars that you can frequent regularly and the staff knows you and it's your go-to place to hang and watch games and feel at home. Awesome place to watch sports because there are TVs all around and everyone gets into it together. There's a party space downstairs too, which also has a bar and TVs. Food is decent. They have an extensive menu. Tried the nachos, which were okay. Could've been bigger, better, and more full. Wings were good but a small portion. Love their chicken fingers. The chicken wrap is the best bang for your buck. Also tried their fried Oreos - ohmahgawd! Don't forget to use their Yelp special to get a free beer with an entree!

This is a great bar for sports fans and beer drinkers and locals, young and old alike. MOST IMPORTANTLY, you should know that this is a JETS bar. So leave your hankerings and accessories for other teams at home. There is a Jets helmet behind the bar and if you ask at random, you will find a ton of Jets' fans congregated here. The wooden bar, barstools and lighting have a Cheers effect, so most people play nice even if it can get a little loud when the mood strikes. The food is great and comes in large portions. Also important to note is that you can get your fill of TATER TOTS, nachos and other bar food. The two stall bathrooms are down the stairs by the party rooms. This is a swell place to host a laid back party (ie high school buddies, 21st birthday, etc). If you really feel like getting silly, feel free to let the bartender know that you want to play beer pong. This place holds so many good things, its pretty hard to list them all. The location is cozy and the service is nice and friendly. They card hard at the door so don't try any funny business and you should be more than fine. I always have a good time here.

Purple rain is my favorite drink on the menu. This is a great spot to have a few good cocktails and fun with your friends. They have lots of outdoor seating and the service is good even when it's getting busy on a weekend evening.

We had our graduation party here in the Speakeasy Room on a Monday night. The staff was super helpful and friendly. We did an open bar special for $50 which included top-shelf liquor as well as 4 food options. We got the veggie pot-stickers, mac and cheese, Swedish meatballs, and chicken fingers. Everything was hot and delicious. We were also allowed to hook up own own music and use the beer pong tables they had. In addition, I saw some hook-up for projectors and screens. If you need to host an open bar this venue is the place to do it. Thanks so much again!

Staff was very accommodating and sat us relatively quickly. James was fantastic! He always checked on us periodically if we needed another round. Met with the owner and he was very nice as well. I felt safe because I saw every staff practicing covid19 safety guidelines. My burger was perfect and they made changes for me which was also accurately done! Thank you very much! I will definitely visit again. Oops I was so hungry I forgot to take pics! Lol

This bar is anti-handicap. I explained I am recovering from a spine injury and they still wouldn't let me sit in a chair with a back. Completely insensitive and uncalled for.

I visited this bar during my trip to NY to watch my Heat play. Its a standard bar, no hostess so you seat yourself. It was pretty loud inside and there was a bouncer checking Id's at the door. We sat towards the back, asked them to put on the game and ordered a pitcher & artichoke spinach dip. On a Friday night there were no beer specials just a 5$ rum and energy drink shot [no thanks] The waitresses were pretty on point and were all sweet. Our pitchers were 20$ each and the spinach cheese dip was just OK. All in all for a bar to catch a game and throw down a pitcher (or 4) of beer this place is A-ok in my book

This is probably one of my favorite bars in the city. It's nothing special, but every time I come here I have a good time. The crowd is always chill, music is good, drinks are great and priced well, and the bartenders are friendly. This isn't one of those spots you come to get completely rowdy, it's a more casual atmosphere to enjoy yourself at. They even have beer pong! Overall, great local hotspot on the Upper West Side. I've been coming here for years.

Bar/restaurant spot and it was pretty full even on a weekday. Staff attentive but the food took a little longer than expected but still good. Ordered the loaded tater tots, pulled pork sandwich and potato skins. Overall average and wouldn't go out of my way to come.

I love gin mill and its sisters but i felt very offended and discriminated becauae my friend had an altercation with a bartender name john who works at jakes awhile ago and hes banned. The altercation wasent even his fault. Soo even tho we got let in to gin mill he sent two bouncers to drag us out For what reason because he doesnt Like him very unprofessional if u ask me made me very uncomfortable and i felt discriminated by it. Sorry gin u were my favorite now ur my least!!! The owners should fire thaf john guy and get better staff.
