"The South Austin American hotel restaurant offers up a fried chicken meal that comes with two dark pieces, plus two sides, which range from tots to mac and cheese to roasted corn. Takeout and delivery orders can be placed through third-party services; there are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Nadia Chaudhury

Came to “Git Out” of our hotel for the night and get dinner. I was mostly drawn by the reviews of the Mac and cheese bowl. It was kind of disappointing though. I got the smoked brisket to top the Mac and cheese. The brisket was flavorless and seemed like oven baked, not smoked. Cut into big pieces that weren’t really tender. Just didn’t seem appetizing for a stand alone entree. I got the wings because I love to try any places version of “Gold Rush” flavor. It’s a tangy honey mustardy flavor. Delicious sauce and flavor! I wasn’t a fan of the wings either though. I’m more of a fried crispy wing fan. These seemed baked. They were very tender, and juicy! Don’t get me wrong they were not bad! Just personal preferences of wing type. I still recommend, they are huge! My wife got the patty melt burger, probably the most delicious out of our whole meal! The burger was spot on delicious, and the waffle fries were perfectly seasoned and crisp. A great bar with friendly and attentive service. I got the ranch water.

Google
Good restaurant in a usual location. Decent number of parking spots but can get full during peak hours. Located in a strip mall with other stores beside it so parking is shared. Good number of menu options. Includes some vegetarian options too. Wings are good and sauces are mostly tasty. Amazing nachos dish. Have found it well made, like here, in very few restaurants across Austin. Tacos are great too. Have grilled and fried options and come with tasty pickled radishes. Good beer choices too! Might come back for the food but prices might make me rethink. Overall a bit pricy. Like 6 wings were $10+, but it’s kinda competitive considering other restaurants too! Clean restrooms too! Not bad at all! Give it a try.

Google
I tried trash/dirty fries and buffalo wings and they were absolutely delicious. Nice place to hang out on a weekend for sure! Taste -> yum Price -> medium (not S Congress expensive) Quality -> fresh Service was great. Overall 5/5

Google
Came here to kill some time while my kids attended the Mystery Skull concert and it was worth it. The food was excellent and the service was great. The popcorn pork was delicious, the 3-meat flat bread also a must try. The mango margaritas was also good as was the paradise city drink. If I'm ever in Austin again we will definitely come here again.

Google
First time here and it’s pretty dope. You have to order at the bar which is good. I had the brisket mac & cheese with a side of brussels sprouts. The mac & cheese was really good just very cheesy!

Google
First time every coming out here and the fiance ordered trash fries plain with brisket and I ordered birria tacos no mods. The consomme with the birria at first seemed mild flavored and I was turned off. But then I dunked it in the salsa before dipping in the consomme and it was the best citrus-y fatty flavor ever. Took all 3 down in a second. The brisket that came with my guys trash fries are so divine, you can taste the smoky flavor.

Google
This place is delicious! By far the best burger I've ever had and I am a burger lover. I ordered the TEXAS BURGER. The burger was cooked to perfection and topped off with slow cooked tender juicy thick sliced pieces of brisket. Welcome to Texas!!! My fiance and daughter ordered the Buffalo wings in addition to the all meat pizza Flatbread. We live in Fort Worth but thought this will be worth driving back through the heat and the God-foresaken traffic to eat here again and enjoy morsels of heaven!!!

Rebecca Herrera

Google
The pork popcorn was fantastic! I highly recommend them. We also had the flatbread pizza and we loved it. The service was good and I really enjoyed the atmosphere.

Yelp
We checked out Git Out for dinner. They have indoor and outdoor seating with an interesting interior that will keep you finding new gems while you sip a drink. They also have parking available, so you don't have to worry about finding curbside parking or walking far. The staff were super nice and provided great suggestions for food and drinks. They checked on us constantly and were very attentive. We all enjoyed our cocktails and the bartenders gave great recommendations based on our preferences. The food was delicious. We had the Trash Frys and it was huge! It was definitely filling for us 2. The fries were still crispy even with all the goodies on top. The toppings were generously distributed and delicious! The highlight of the meal was definitely the Green Chili Mac & Cheese Bowl with smoked brisket. Mac and cheese is my favorite food so I was thrilled to find this gem. It was so cheesy and gooey and flavorful, even as leftovers! This in itself earned Git Out 5 stars! The drinks, food, and ambience all created a great environment to get dinner with friends!

Teresa L.

Yelp
Had the hatch mac and cheese with 3 wings and Brussels sprouts. Wings were very small and crazy dry. Brussels were undercooked and tough to chew. It looked good but that was it. Taste wasn't there..at all. Food was 2 star and I'm being generous. Extra star is for the exceptionally friendly staff bartender?) Dining and bar were clean. Might've been an off night..

Yelp
My visit here turned out to be a disappointment. I know that cocktails in Austin are not inexpensive but $14 for an old-fashioned that only filled half of a highball glass is absurd. The burgers were tasty and the patties were made from quality meat, but the waffle fries were kinda cold coming to the table. On the plus side, the seating was plentiful and comfortable, and the service was friendly. Overall, it was okay but there are plenty of other outlets that do it better.

Linda M.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem!!! OMG the good was amazing! The staff were super friendly and the cocktails were off the chain!

Alexa M.

Yelp
Yummy food and amazing service. Only downside was you had to order at the bar which was awkward and not convenient.

Lizzie R.

Yelp
On August 13th, we drove around the neighborhood after having visited Austin for the 1st time. We decided to find a place for some wings and of course drinks! What I didn't expect to find was an amazing gem! You may not think much of it until you step inside and get transformed into a lovely bar & restaurant with plenty of tables and TVs! We ordered a Burger & Texas Burger along with a side of tots. We also ordered the Buffalo wings as well as the Mango Habanero. Believe me when I tell you that there is some major heat (in a great way!) when ordering the MH because it will definitely make your lips smack!!!! That heat was a nice surprise considering the fact that when you think of mango habanero, you mainly get the sweet without the heat! For drinks we ordered an Austin Sour and a Cherry Kiss. Major shout out to the lovely bartender w/the little mermaid tattoo who gave us some hints about navigating DT Austin in regards to watching the bats. (we missed out but definitely going to try soon) I'll definitely be back for the wings!!! don't sleep on this business!

Yelp
The Git Out is great. The burgers are fantastic! Service is friendly. It is fun place to hang out and watch the game.

Yelp
I visited this restaurant for dinner after arriving in town. Upon entering, there was a sign instructing guests to pick up a menu, take a table number, and have a seat anywhere before ordering at the bar when ready. It took me some time to decide on my order, but I eventually settled on the "Dinner and a Movie" with brisket. To my surprise, the food arrived very quickly. I had briefly stepped away to use the restroom after placing my order, and by the time I returned, my meal was already on the table. The salad looked appetizing, and I enjoyed it. However, my only disappointment was the brisket, which had an excessive amount of fatty pieces. Some portions were practically just blobs of fat, which was not enjoyable. Despite this issue with the brisket, my overall experience at the restaurant was good. The prompt service and appealing salad made up for the fatty brisket.

Mike E.

Yelp
Food: 3/5 The Git Out has a solid bar food menu, but doesn't deliver on what you'd hope to get after ordering. The brisket burger was over cooked and dry even though we requested medium when they asked us how we would like it. For a $25 meal this really wasn't worth it, but passable for bar food. Service: 3/5 Ordering everything from the bar is always a bit of a drag, but be ready to have your hands full by getting your own menu, silverware, table marker, condiment cart, and water on your way to finding your own table. There is no wait staff here even during dinner service. The bartenders are very friendly however! Environment: 5/5 Great patio, tons of parking, and cool bar design!

Victoria A.

Yelp
Highly recommend! Great ambiance, a small amount of indoor seating plus a small (dog-friendly) patio. The cocktails were delicious! As far as the food goes, we ordered the trash fries (with brisket), potato puffs, fried fish tacos and the Mac and cheese. Trash fries were good except that the actual fries were ice cold. All other ingredients were good, except that the cheese sauce was way too salty. The "potato puffs" are croquettes, for anyone who is unsure. They were delicious, very crunchy, possibly had a corn flake breading? The fish tacos were incredible! Lastly, the Mac and cheese was mediocre. Service was 8/10.

Yelp
The Git Out gives that chill neighborhood bar vibe. The bar and restaurant is tucked away in South Austin. After driving by many times I finally stopped in. The Git Out has a nice selection of tap beer and an extensive food menu. My favorite item was the Nachos with Brisket. Tasty and filling. I also tried the chicken tacos and didn't hate it! Overall, the experience was super solid. Ill likely stop in again if I want to get out and chill at a bar in a nice low key environment.

Yelp
5th time at one of my favorite spots in Austin. Casey, the bartender always takes care of me on Sundays with Espolón skinny margaritas. I tried to be a stupid skinny Bish and not order tator tots with my burger since I had a heavy breakfast. Casey asked me how my Brussel sprouts were and I told him I wasn't satisfied. He immediately took the plate away and assured me the Mac and cheese would satisfy me. The burgers are phenomenal and the Mac and cheese is decedent. I normally order the tots, although I was so excited I didn't tonight to enjoy the Mac and cheese. Whoa! What amazing flavor! Our main man Casey knows how to do espresso martinis as well. I'm in love with this place

Michael M.

Yelp
Great food. Great service. Small town ambience. Great local spot. Just look at her face. Like damn. That girl is getting it.

Azeria D.

Yelp
Drove by this place and decided to check it out. BOY AM I HAPPY I DID! The food was delicious along with the cocktails. The staff not only were friendly and playful but also very helpful with what to do with leftovers . The art and stuff hung around gives a vintage vibe. Definitely recommend this place.

Chris O.

Yelp
Descent tacos, descent drinks, best thing is the bartenders . Brussel sprouts were a little under cooked and could have used a little more char.

Michael N.

Yelp
This is a great food spot for great burgers and well-priced drinks. My friends and I stumbled upon it on a recent trip to Austin, and we think that it's a hidden gem in the city's food landscape. The burger was really great and our server was really helpful with our drink selections.

Deanna M.

Yelp
The food is always fresh and delicious, especially the Mac n cheese and fish tacos. The bartenders are all personable and friendly. Noah makes delicious mixed drinks and is always helpful. The atmosphere feels like you are surrounded by friens. It's a great place to hang out.

m b.

Yelp
Brisket tasted pretty good but it was 90% fat Employees weren't friendly but maybe they were just having a bad day. Cool looking spot. I would come back Overall experience 7/10

Barbie M.

Yelp
Food portions are huge explains the slightly higher price on normal items. Drinks are always a nice strong pour. Bartenders are friendly. Depends on who's working what the atmosphere is there.

Chandler E.

Yelp
We were in town for the day/night and decided to stop here because it was close by our hotel. BEST DECISION EVER. We had the pleasure of the chef, Joel, being our server at the bar. He was amazing and didn't steer us wrong for one choice. Helped us make our decisions too because everything sounded so damn good. The other bartenders/servers were very friendly as well. For starters we got the potato puffs. BOMB AF. Dinner I got the birria tacos and my fiancé got the phatty melt with waffles fries. Let me tell you - they DO NOT play with these portion sizes. Joel let me know the birria is a 3-day process and mannnnnnnnn it is worth it I'm drooling right now thinking about it. I saw the green Chile Mac and cheese bowl on the menu and knew I could not leave town without it. So we got it to go - I can speak on it yet because we haven't had it but I know it's going to be amazing. We will for sure be back next time we are in Austin. Very chill and welcoming atmosphere. Has basketball on which was a plus too.

Richard G.

Yelp
Food was good. A little pricey but good. The service is a little Different. You seat yourself and order at the bar for food and drinks. But the place is very cool and the staff was nice. We had burgers and sides.

David Edgar ..

Yelp
This place was amazing. Was our first time there and will continue to go back. Staff was super friendly and provided excellent service.

Susan M.

Yelp
Yum!! Beef empanadas. Dry rub wings. Apple empanadas. Outstanding!! First time, had it delivered. Will definitely go out of my way to dine in next time!!

Alex L.

Yelp
So, I really dig not having wait-staff because I'm not a fan of being interrupted and well having to deal with the whole wait experience is my least favorite part of going out so I absolutely love places that don't do it. That being said, it's a bit awkwardly implemented here since you have to go up to the bartenders to order. I wish there was more of a designated area, but it's not a big deal. CRISPY BRUSSEL SPROUTS - Really good brussels sprouts... I couldn't appreciate these enough until I tried this dish from other places. Git Out is definitely my favorite choice for this dish! TEXAS BURGER - This burger sounds fantastic - brisket and burgers are two of my favorite things and honestly this burger tastes pretty darn great, but the brisket chunks were a bit disappointing with their taste and dryness, but it wasn't a huge deal. A bit more sauce, maybe directly on the brisket, would have helped me out here. Solid place with a great experience. Again, I love the "counter-serve" aspect of Git Out.

Leticia M.

Yelp
First time here and it was great! The Buffalo wings were a big size and really yummy! Waffle fries had some good seasoning on them! Atmosphere was nice and chill too. Ordered the Top Shelf Rita which was also really good, just a regular margarita. Service was quick and bar tenders were nice and even recommended another wing place near by.

Chris F.

Yelp
I liked the mixed drink (started with a C) and the Phatty Melt. But I didn't like the Trash Fries - something about them was off - maybe the dairy products. I ended up throwing them away. I also got sick after eating here. You order at the bar and are supposed to clear your own table. Pretty loud. More of a bar scene than what I would consider a good restaurant.

Christine G.

Yelp
Hands down best nachos we've ever had. Added brisket and guacamole. They didn't skimp on either and the brisket is for real. Great concept and staff was very friendly. Good drinks too!

Alice D.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday evening and the place was relatively empty. We opted to sit outside and there were only maybe 2 other parties total that sat near us at any point so it made the experience pretty quaint and chill. The menu was pretty diverse, but the Dinner and a Movie salad seemed interesting and ultimately was a fantastic deal - huge and good portion size. The dressing interestingly didn't come automatically tossed with the salad so we had to go up and ask for some on the side, but the flavor of the dressing was pretty delicious so in the end it wasn't terrible. The wings had nice flavor, but the fact that they're described as jumbo on the menu was definitely misleading. They tasted good nonetheless, it's just they didn't live up to their description for sure. The fries were great - super flavorful and plentiful. Definitely would recommend! Overall, I enjoyed my dinner and would love to come back if I'm ever in the area. Thanks, Git Out!

Ashleigh J.

Yelp
I have been wanting to stop by this place for few months since the last time I was in the area with a friend & they were closed. Luckily this time, they had been open even though it was later in the evening! There is some indoor and outdoor seating options. The place is not super large so I could easily see it being very crowded on a weekend! The ordering concept is a little strange to me as you grab a menu at the entrance, grab a number, grab a seat, and then order at the bar. However, we ordered at the bar and received our food very quickly! I definitely recommend the brussels sprouts! They were probably the best part of our order! We ordered The Texas Burger, which was was good, and the pork belly BLT was also pretty good. I like that the menu has a variety of food styles, so you can get a burger & fries or empanadas & tacos at the same place. The woman bartender didn't seem thrilled to be assisting us but other then that, I would say the food & place is pretty good and worth checking out!

John K.

Yelp
A dive bar that I did not expect to have a plethora of beer options and just amazing quality food made to order. We were not disappointed and willing to visit again when we are in the area. The bathroom is super clean too so I know they take care of their kitchen. A real treat and a must try if you have not. The staff was super friendly and accommodating especially when we had our 2 year old run around like he owned the place. I appreciate you guys!!!!

Ekatarina V.

Yelp
Tucked away in a strip mail, this is a hidden gem. Great burgers! Definitely plan to share one unless you're starving. Terrific fries. Lots of beers plus they make a fantastic Old Fashion. Dog friendly patio too.

Jamie P.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place while in south Austin. Interesting concept for decor and restaurant. Walk in, grab table # and menu, pick a seat, and order at the bar. We ordered cocktails and food and it arrived very quickly! The owner even came by the table to give us some recommendations and to check on our meal. The trash fries were everything. Get the brisket on top! SOoo good. The Brussels sprouts and Texas burger were also very good. I'd definitely recommend this place. They even have a small outdoor patio. One bartender seemed like she didn't want to be there, but the guy bartender was super nice and attentive.

Chris T.

Yelp
Just stop searching, you found the place to eat. Ridiculously good. The nachos were amazing. The two of us planned to order more but the bartender rightly suggested we start with that. We couldn't finish it was so much food.

Baldwin E.

Yelp
Average south Austin bar and grill type restaurant. It's comfortably close for many 78745 residents and it has quality food and decent drinks, as well as ample parking. Prices were comparable to other places in the same area that provide higher quality local food, cheeses, bakery goods and meats. I prefer supporting local foods, not just local restaurants. I've experienced the Git in its infancy (first month) and again within its first two years. Its an average spot, nothing noteworthy negative about the experience. Definitely worth checking out for yourself. It may be a place you really like.

Aissa S.

Yelp
A little hole in the wall bar with AMAZING food. Great service as well. I had the veggie empanadas and loaded waffle fries. Beyond delicious.

Khian R.

Yelp
If I could I would give this place 10 stars . You grab a number head to the counter place your order and seat yourself . I ordered the fried chicken with crispy Brussels sprouts and tots . I'm not joking when I say the food came out before I could take a sip of water . The service was excellent and fast! The chicken was hot crispy and juicy . The Brussels sprouts were amazing . I have to try this place again. I wish they were down near San Antonio. But it's worth the drive back up. I met the owners , and manager chef Joel. Both were very welcoming.

Marc A.

Yelp
Love this place, great food, great drinks and great conversation. Definitely check this place out.

Thomas D.

Yelp
Just what the doctor ordered, progressive with a bit of edginess, and a good selection of IPAs. Had the mac & cheese with pork, nice, smoky flavor and super creamy and authentic mac & cheese (real cheese, generously portioned). Oh, one thing; coleslaw is more than chopped cabbage? Yeah, a little sauce would've been welcome. ;)

Marisela O.

Yelp
Me & my wife had our first experience at Git Out and it was a great experience, thankful for the bartender manager and Michelle. The food was beyond amazing, we got the trash fry's & lemon limeade splash. Will look forward to coming back :)

Jenelle R.

Yelp
Finally gave The Git Out a whirl with my fiancé; I had been here once before in early 2020, but I hardly even remember what life was like pre-pandemic, so it felt like I was starting fresh. Our experience was good. The menu offers a large selection, and the prices are really reasonable. We ordered wings and the Tacos al Pastor, and all of it was great. The ordering concept is a bit weird, though...reminds me of Loro, which I find to be extremely discombobulated. It wasn't busy when we were there, so it was fairly smooth. But I can only imagine on a busy night, the ordering process ends up being a cluster. I imagine the process of ordering at the bar allows the business to keep prices really reasonable, which I appreciate, but I think it would be wise to consider an app that allows patrons to order from their table instead.

Jordan S.

Yelp
This food was AMAZING!!! The brisket burger was perfectly cooked and their BBQ sauces set it off perfectly. The egg over the waffle fries was the perfect appetizer.

Megan P.

Yelp
Second time here and it was so good!! The brisket was delicious (we got brisket nachos) and the fish tacos were amazing. The staff was really great! Everyone was super nice and the food came out really quick. Beer was nice and cold too. Only downside was that the peach empanadas aren't on the menu anymore I was really looking forward to them. The apple ones are still delicious but the peach ones were amazing.

Lynne Z.

Yelp
Cool spot for some food and drinks. The portions are generous. We will go back. We went for lunch and ordered tacos and a burger.

Collin M.

Yelp
This place is bomb. Food is great and plenty of tvs. Always had great service. You will be paying $20 for a burger and fries.

Steven N.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing!!! I would eat here every week! Let me just start off by saying how welcoming and friendly the staff was. I'm not sure how it was before covid but basically you come in and pick your seat with the menu in hand. When you're ready, you go to the counter/bar area to order your food/drinks. When the food is ready, they'll bring the food to your table. There is no server that comes to your table... The food was amazing! My brisket tacos were so tender and juicy! The nachos were also very tasty!

Rachael R.

Yelp
Casey was the best server I've had in Austin and maybe the entire United States. He made our dinner so wonderful going above and beyond with every interaction. This is going to be a go to place for us because of his incredible service. Plus, the nachos were insane in the best way! A+ Casey, see ya next time!

Paul S.

Yelp
My wife and I have been coming here for a few years now. The Git Out never disappoints! This is usually our first stop when friends come from out of town. Elevated bar food and well made drinks are complimented by the always terrific staff.

Jana B.

Yelp
We were standing outside the door of The Git Out and the waitperson came to the door to tell us how to do it: pick up a menu, grab a seat, order at the bar and they bring out the food and drinks. She had personality plus and really added to the vibe of the place. We ordered from their long list of draft beers and then ordered chicken wings and spicy beef empanadas. The two empanadas were really nicely seasoned but only 3 inches long so a bit expensive for $10. Plenty of heat in the mango sauced wings. The Phattymelt burger was very good. Our friends shared their Mac and cheese - the bowl was large and they took a good portion home. Spicy Brussels spouts we're tasty too. We had the bread pudding with ice cream. The bread pudding was sliced from a loaf, and was moist and delicious. The ice cream accompanying it was a big scoop but crunchy and hard when brought to the table. It softened up as we ate it. I enjoyed this place and would come here again!

Tim V.

Yelp
Stopped in purely based of Yelp rating and location to where we were. It's definitely more a sports bar than a pure restaurant however it's worth a stop in if you want some pretty good "bar food" and drinks We had the trash fries with brisket which was very good! Also split a cheeseburger with tots, tots where cooked perfectly in clean oil, the burger was good but nothing too special. Staff was great, friendly and pretty attentive. I'll be back assuming I am in the area and have a hankering for a cold beer and then trash fries.

Sharon H.

Yelp
I think they have found a way to deal with the staffing challenges. You walk in grab a menu, grab a table number and a table. Order at the bar and the food is brought to you. Worked well. The food had great flavor but the filling in my empanadas was lacking.....maybe a teaspoon in the whole thing. Sadly I couldn't locate someone to show them so I just finished them. My husband had a burger and raved about it. We shared the crispy Brussels and they awesome. Put a little more filling in the beef empanadas and they will be perfect.
