"Though the nine-key Glenburn Penthouse is a luxury boutique hotel, they are as well-known for their elegant food as for their colonial-era inspired accommodations. Chef de Cuisine Shawn Kenworthy was born and raised in the UK but has lived in India since 2000. His body of work includes cooking and consulting at everything from The Park Hotels, Hyatt and Radisson to Suryagarh Jaisalmer, Sitara Himalayas, Jehan Numa Palace Bhopal and Olive Bar & Kitchen. Kenworthy’s delicate European cooking techniques work beautifully with head chef Ranjit Shaw’s training in Kolkata to make the food at Glenburn Penthouse a refreshing take on local ingredients and culinary history." - ByArundhati Ail

This is a wonderful hotel situated right in the heart of Kolkata. We were given a really warm welcome when we arrived, and provided with afternoon tea after freshening up, including a wide choice of the wonderful Glenburn teas. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, as well as the hotel restaurant itself situated in the luxurious longe area. The hotel owner Husna was really welcoming and invited us to attend an event taking place at the hotel in the evening as her guest. There was plenty of choice for breakfast - no buffet, everything made to order, with a choice of Western and local dishes. There is an infinity pool on the top floor which looks out over to the Victoria Memorial and the Maidan - we made full use of the pool on both mornings of our stay - we were lucky enough to have it to ourselves but as there are only nine suites the hotel will never seem crowded. The suite in which we stayed was fabulous - clean and tastefully decorated with a huge bathroom. The staff were extremely helpful in arranging drivers to take us to the places we wanted to go, taking any stress out of having to arrange this ourselves. All our requests were responded to very promptly and executed efficiently. They will also organise tours of the city for you. We would have no hesitation in staying here again should we return to Kolkata.

This is a wonderful hotel situated right in the heart of Kolkata with far reaching views including the Victoria Memorial. The decor is fabulous and the furniture is classically elegant with huge comfortable rooms. The staff are all charming and could not be more helpful. Delicious breakfast and dinner. We also stayed at the Glenburn teahouse which is equally wonderful with amazing views. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel and we hop to return one day.

Entrance of the building is quite scary. When I arrived there, I could not believe the suites I saw on the pictures were gonna be in such an ugly building. Once I reached the last floor the experience started and the suites and common areas are wonderfully decorated in colonial style.|Restaurant is also very good. Quite a hidden place I'd say.

Following a recommendation by friends, we spent 4 nights at the Glenburn for our trip to Kolkata.||The hotel occupies the top three floors of an office block on Russel Street, right in the centre of Colonial Calcutta, so very convenient for visiting the historic monuments, as well as the commercial areas around it – something appreciated by my wife!||On the outside it is simply seen as a glass-fronted building, but the contrast on arriving on the 8th floor to reception was amazing. The hotel is beautifully presented, both the public areas and rooms are stylish and comfortable, and given the usual bedlam at street level, a true oasis of peace and tranquillity.||Our room overlooked the Victoria Monument and Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium (unfortunately no cricket was being played in it) as well as some of the surrounding buildings, it was large, comfortable and well equipped, as well as being extremely quiet, so we had a good night’s sleep.||Breakfast was served to order, no buffet, and the evening meal excellent, a fusion of western and Indian tastes.||Afternoon tea was offered each day, a mixture of savoury and sweet “nibbles” (which in no way does them justice), the tea coming from the owner’s tea plantation in Darjeeling.||Overall an excellent stay, made by the efforts of the staff, who were on hand to ensure every effort was made to make our stay memorable. This was very important when my wife went down with a bug and was room bound for a day, and we were overwhelmed by the support.||A very highly recommended stay,

We arrived in Kolkata on a hot, steamy evening - after a long day of travel. Kolkata was jam packed and crazy….but after a 45 min drive from the airport we were ushered into the serenity that is the penthouse. The rooms are beautiful, the dining area exquisite and the rooftop pool, overlooking the Victoria Memorial, an absolute treat.||The staff were so polite, helpful and friendly and the food excellent. ||If you are looking for a retreat within busy Kolkata, this place is where you need to be, it is simply wonderful.

Glennburn penthouse has been an amazing stay in Kolkata. An oasis of elegant peace, luxurious fittings, very tasty deco, super comfortable beddings. Large rooms located on 2 floors with terrasses offering spectacular views on the city and its main landmarks. the staff has been so available and courteous, not to mention the owner Usna, that took such good care of us. Food was great, very refined menu. A minor drawback, a bit too priced but you get what you paid for. we will be back !

I had just completed a 21-day river cruise to remote areas of India my final hotel was at the Glenburn Penthouse in Kolkata. The moment you step out of the lift you know you are in a place of classiness. The staff are welcoming and attentive to your needs. The attention to detail in every aspect is amazing my room was immaculate and the furnishing was exquisite. I had cocktails and dinner on the outside terrace overlooking Victoria Memorial. The dinner menu choices a wide selection of both Indian and Western dishes where presentation and portion size were on point. I purchased tea from their estate in Darjeeling for gifts which everyone enjoyed. ||I highly recommend staying at the Glenburn Penthouse Kolkata if you want to stay somewhere where you are made to feel special but not overpowered by the staff The location is excellent and easily accessible.
