50 Best Restaurants in India, From Kasauli to Kolkata | Condé Nast Traveler

"Perched above Chowringhee with views of the Victoria Memorial, Glenburn Penthouse pairs colonial-era rooms and a rooftop infinity pool with European-inflected cuisine—soft-shell crab moilee, duck kosha singara with pineapple, and twelve-hour-braised goat with vindaloo jus—where the food and the elevated space complement each other in an elegant city retreat." - Karina Acharya

The Glenburn Penthouse | Kolkata | Smith Hotels

"The Raj would love The Glenburn Penthouse, a boutique hotel on the edge of Maidan park in Kolkata. This cosy, colonial-inspired city sanctuary may lie at the top of a new office block, but the 21st century is left firmly at the door. Step inside and you’re back in India’s past, and a land of ceiling fans, carved four-poster beds, verandas and and hand-drawn maps. The dining room is hazily handsome, with curved conservatory-style windows, colourful cushions scattered on patterned chairs, a palms-and-palaces mural and a sparkling chandelier. And just wait till you see the rooftop pool…" - Mr & Mrs Smith

The Glenburn Penthouse, Kolkata, India - Explore & Book

"Tucked quietly atop a modern office block, The Glenburn Penthouse is Kolkata’s first boutique hotel, yet it exudes an ageless elegance. Close to Maidan Park and the stunning Victoria Memorial palace, the hotel provides wonderful views of the cityscape – particularly spectacular from its sundeck and rooftop infinity pool. The décor is tasteful: antique maps and print collections grace the 9 gorgeous suites; there are vintage carpets in the sitting areas; marble terraces have white wicker chairs and ceiling fans; and the marble bathrooms are utterly pristine. We especially like the drawing room’s handmade ‘Hindoostan’ wallpaper, designed in Paris, depicting scenes of Indian rural life. Breakfast and afternoon tea are included in the rate; there's also a daily changing menu of Bengali dishes for guests who wish to have lunch or dinner in the hotel. Guides are on-hand for private tours of the city's historic sites, museums, galleries, and textile markets, for those eager to explore Kolkata’s vibrant culture and exciting street life. The incredibly knowledgable and connected owners have created this perfect hideaway; you'll really appreciate returning to The Glenburn's graceful tranquility. Highs Sister hotel of the long-established Glenburn Tea Estate with a professional and helpful concierge service A short walk from Victoria Memorial, the Maidan, and Park Street, a local hub for restaurants and bars Just 9 spacious suites with pristine modern bathrooms: walk-in showers, clawfoot tubs, bathrobes and bespoke toiletries Eco-friendly: recyclable bamboo amenities (combs, razors, toothbrush) and glass bottles of water - no plastic A refreshing rooftop pool with superb city views Lows The location - in an office building - is not for everyone Children under 12 not allowed Gadget lovers might balk at the low-tech suites" - Handpicked by our hotel experts

An elegant oasis in the midst of Kolkata, decorated in colonial style, on several floors of an office building. Expansive views. Welcoming, attentive staff, good food. On the eighth floor, where we were, reception, dining, sitting area and room were all on the same floor. Rooms were large and beautiful. Kolkata is home to a spectacular Jain temple, the former British Indian administration building (which is unused), famous Maiden park, stunning flower market. Victoria memorial and vast “Marble Palace,” (BTW, this hotel and visits to Delhi, Kolkata and Assam were meticulously organized by Banyan Travel.) Tips: take a river cruise during an Indian holiday to see floating candles and a giant glowing statue of Shiva. If you have sensitive lungs, bring a mask against pollution.

This is a remarkable boutique hotel by any standards - one of the best views of the Victoria Memorial anywhere, and it's from an infinity pool. Service and attention to detail are faultless. The connection to the Glenburn tea plantation means that the tea list is well worth exploring. It would take a jaded traveller indeed not to be wowed by the rooms.

We stayed for two nights as part of a group at the end of our tour and it was a very pleasant experience indeed. Everything a boutique hotel should be, excelling at everything - room layout, cleanliness, service (one small gripe about having to ask again for bottled water), food and ambience. It’s location at the heart of Kolkata is also difficult to beat. One to make a note of for any future return to the city for sure

We stayed for 2 nights at the Glenburn Penthouse and loved it. The staff members were extremely welcoming and made our stay very special. The views of the Victoria Memorial in the evenings were incredible. A special mention to Santu, Sourav, Sanchita and the others (whose names we unfortunately might be missing) for their hospitality and service. We would definitely visit again

Made a reservation for December 2025 directly via the hotel's website. Received a confirmation . Called the hotel to get information about something else, and was told that our reservation was made in error because of a "glitch in the system." "How can I help you Sir, there is a glitch in the system" says Mr. Dipto the reservation manager. Terrible. This is supposed to be the fanciest boutique hotel in Kolkata but it reinforces every stereotype about the city. "Glitches in the system" - a system which reserves a room when no room is available? This never happens. I suspect the hotel committed the room to someone else and decided that I was not the customer they wanted.

Absolute hidden gem at the heart of Kolkata. I had booked through World of Hyatt while looking for a place close to the US Consulate. The place was such a refreshing change from your typical hotels. Great rooms with fascinating decor, amazing views of the Victoria memorial, and top-notch dining experience. Too bad it was a one night stay. Looking to visit again! Kudos to the team managing this property!

What a place. A haven above from a bustling, fascinating city. Personal, prompt service and beautiful interior from common areas to suites. Love it. Incredibly knowledgeable owner for anything about Bengal.

The Glenburn Penthouse was our anchor during a three-day stay in Kolkata. As other reviewers have pointed out, the interior decor is palatial and tasteful, despite the location on the top floors of a modern glass office building. You are a walkable distance from the most interesting sites worth seeing: Victoria Memorial, St. Paul's Cathedral, New Market, Dalhousie Square, and more. Just steps from the hotel are stores selling antique furniture, locally made handicrafts and clothing, the excellent Oxford Bookshop, and Mocambo restaurant - plus not-on-the-tourist-route side streets that boast magnificent temples, art deco apartment buildings, and other architectural treasures. ||The rooms are clean, spacious, and comfortable, and exude as much old world charm as any historic hotel we've ever stayed in. The staff is calm, friendly, and helpful. Someone was always on hand to recommend places to visit, get our laundry done, help us make sense of the food, or arrange a tour. (In fact, our city tour guide, Shahah, far exceeded expectations with her well-planned itinerary, insider's knowledge, and excellent English.) We really felt at home and welcomed so warmly. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat and can't recommend it highly enough.
