Five Old-School SF Chefs Who Are Ready for Full Dining Rooms Again - Eater SF

"Grandmother Josephine Di Grande, 73 years young, is the matriarch of Gold Mirror, the Italian-American classic that’s been saucing the Parkside for 51 years. Gold Mirror is fortunate to own their building, which makes weathering the pandemic a bit easier, and 'we rolled with the punches,' says Domencio Di Grande, Josephine’s eldest son. 'We didn’t close for a single day.'" - Becky Duffett

Seems like I was on the beach all day, and caught my limits of fish, gave them all away to the people that showed intrest in them, and even cleaned one because the little scab that wanted it didn't know how to prep it for cooking. The ocean is a great place, but it sure can make you cold, cold all the way through, but luckily the Golden Mirror Italian Restaurant is just a few blocks away and nothing warms a body better than good authentic Italian food. ☆☆☆☆☆ The food was so good I had to go back just to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I took my pal'et Patty Applejack with me to verify the quality, presentation and taste of our meal. Patty said they smashed it! and I agree. 5 stars again ☆☆☆☆☆

Excellent food. We had an amazing beet salad, and meatballs as appetizers. My chicken sauté was excellent along with my wife's lasagna was the best she has ever had. Deserts were home made and extremely good. Pretty amazing place. Plus, the waitress Joselyn was perfect in how she was attentive to our needs and able to connect with us during our conversations. Give her a raise! Another time for Mother’s Day, 2023-05-14, stairway walk in St Francis Wood and then to eat at the Gold Mirror. Another amazing experience. Thanks to our waiter, John. Good job for a special day.

Came here for dinner with a group and sat inside. I felt very well spaced from others. My friend pointed out the bar which seems to be from when this was initially a New Orleans speakeasy. In the middle of our dinner, with permission from our dinner guests and the waiter, we were able to sit at the bar to experience it. In New Orleans style, we ordered sazeracs which were great. All the food was great

It is not surprising this restaurant has been in business for over 50 years. We had dinner on a Saturday night and even though the place was busy service was very good. Our server Eddy was very attentive and always there when we needed him. The food was all prepared exquisitely. We ordered escargot, calamari, tuna tartare, pizza, veal saltinbocca, the seafood special (dorado that night), tiramisu, and chocolate brownie. My 3 guests and I all left very satisfied with the food and service. Their wine list is not very big, but offers good variety and value. I will certainly be back.

Love traditional Italian. I'm here for my Sunday supper. Cannelloni app, lasagna Bolognese, pasta of the day, catch of the day, tiramisu, bottle of Pinot noir. Loved it all. Excellent!

Google
Great experience. Very old school place with great food, impeccable service, and nice atmosphere. They should refill sodas. No, really YOU SHOULD! Highly recommend this local neighborhood restaurant who should start refilling sodas and not charge $2.50 each....no, really....

I’ve came by here hundreds of times while riding the L and it took me 5 years to finally get in. This is a classic family Italian restaurant. The decor is pretty hokey but the drinks are strong, wine is basic and food was delicious. I’ll be back and FYI, they do takeout.

Yelp
Old World Charm. Good fresh food. Friendly service. Gold Mirror is a San Francisco icon and has been serving the city for more than 50 years. We always come for the authentic, fresh Italian food. My favorite is the Good 'Ol classic Spaghetti and Meatball Bolognese and it's made perfectly every - single - time. Between our party of 3, we ordered the following dishes: * Beef Tripe Appetizer - very good * Minestrone soup - First time I've had a 'white' minestrone soup... it lacked flavor and the abundance of ingredients. Didn't like it. * Shrimp and Avocado Salad - Flavors are good but the salad was a bit soggy. Overall an ok. * Spaghetti and Meatball Bolognese - excellent all around! Flavors, portion and the perfectly mixed sauces ... yummy * Short rib ravioli - very good and full of flavors. * Chicken Marsala - Perfectly cooked... excellent! Overall a great meal at Gold Mirrro!

Yelp
1974 was my first time to The Gold Mirror. I lived up the street 18th and Santiago. Probably to young to be at the bar waiting for my table. Had a favorite little table. But never a problem..1974. Living in San Francisco I had food out so often I got tired of eating out. I never felt tired of "my" Gold Mirror. Excellent food..service and then our matradi who was named Mike...looked much like the mafia guys I saw in Jersey at my aunties place..for real..so I had to laugh about that. All being said. The Gold Mirror is a S.F. icon for it's excellent quality and the atmosphere of a family owned business. My go to usually the Cannelloni.

Yelp
PASTAA I was craving pasta and tiramisu for the longest and it was fun getting surprised here for a dinner date! Walking through the doors you've teleported into a new space. The vibes are great and staff are friendly. Mostly an older here but nevertheless very yummy! This is definitely authentic I'm craving it as I'm writing this review xD!

Yelp
Gold Mirror Italian Restaurant Came here for a fantastic medical dinner and got to try their wonderful selections of food! Started off with the house made ravioli with mushroom cream sauce, then indulged in some yummy pesto pasta. I was already feeling a bit full from the family styled appetizers but for my entree I chose the filet mignon, medium rare, with bone marrow reduction. I was surprised I was even able to finish my steak, but I'm glad I did. It always tastes best when it's right out the kitchen. But my favorite was definitely the pesto pasta, it was made just right and the sauce hit the spot! The staff was amazing and did a wonderful job. The food was great, and close to where I live. Hope to be back soon!

Yelp
Had some great meals here. Generally busy, especially weekend, holidays. They do a whole restaurant house sing with the waiters/bartenders, even you if you're up to it, during the December holidays. Instagrammable. Solid, well made, classic Italian dishes. Good drinks. Solid desserts. We're always pleased we came.

Yelp
We were fortunate to have Gold Mirror serve pizzas at our annual golf tournament. The dough was whole wheat and crust was thin and chewy. We tried the sausage, pepperoni and prosciutto. All were amazing. I can't wait to make it out to their family restaurant in San Francisco go check out the rest of the menu!!! 5/5 for food, ingredients and amazing customer service!

Yelp
This is a very old traditional Italian restaurant in the Taraval neighborhood. The food continued to stay fresh, tasty, and delicious. The restaurant stays quite busy and fast service. The ambience is fun, noisy, and lots of activities Parking can be a serious hassle as there are many nearby restaurants and shops. I had to take one Yelp star off as my food was not served hot. Will still come back again.

Yelp
Had dinner here with friends a little while ago and just now writing the review! I hadn't been here in many, many years so it was just like a first time for me. Two of us had the salmon piccata and two had the petrale sole. My salmon was cooked just right... not overdone! It was fresh and deliciously flavorful. It came with some green beans, cooked just right, and rice pilaf. I was so engrossed in catching up with my friends that I forgot to take pictures of the restaurant, menu, and dishes before they were eaten! Luckily, I remembered before I consumed the whole thing! The only unfortunate thing was that we came on St. Paddy's Day, so it was *really, really* loud and we were seated right next to the bar. We couldn't hear each other without shouting; it made for a shorter evening and strained vocal chords! The waitress was friendly and efficient and the warm bread with butter was a yummy addition to our pre-meal munching.

Yelp
Its been a while since I came here about 30 years ago and the interior looks so different. Heard that the place had been renovated and passed down to the next generation. Not sure if its true but they have been around for more than 50 years, as I noticed it was their 50th anniversary in 2019. The restaurant was very full, on a Friday night. Nice busy Italian vibes with bar counter and open kitchen. Tables were available, upstairs, downstairs and outside seating was available too. Staff were welcoming and friendly. We sat by the wall, where I saw the huge gold mirror on the wall, hence the name of the restaurant. Our server, recommended our red wine, Damilano 2017 $78 and it was delicious and went well with our meal. We ordered the calamari $16 - fresh tasting and flavorful and meatballs $14 for starters. Our mains were the Veal scaloppini $36, which was excellent, the Pork chop was tender and juicy $34, the halibut was also very good $36, and the eggplant parmingiana was light and cheesy $22. We ended the meal with Spumoni $5 and Grappas $10. Have to say the dessert spoon was big, as it was not able to scoop the Spumoni from the bottom of the glass and I wish the lighting was a tad brighter, so I can see my food and take better photos. Overall, a very pleasant evening, with fine wine and food.

Yelp
It's been months now living in San Francisco and I've become a regular at the Gold Mirror. Lots of regulars there, at the bar and tables, laughing, talking and having a good time. I'll be honest, I've only had drinks/dinner at the bar but the staff remembers you when you arrive. Regular or not you feel welcomed walking in, it's a warm and inviting environment with a a great looking rustic, Italian motif. Stone and dark reds with a flurry of activity. The bar is where I gravitate to because of Dean and Johnny behind the bar. They are absolutely excellent! Great drinks, attentive and solid conversation, even when very busy, which is damn near every night. They usually know what you want to drink when you sit down Arriving at 4pm, when the GM opens is rather quiet but people/parties filter in and it quickly gets filled up, the noise increasing. The drinks are nice and strong, from a Moscow Mule, Pisco Sour to the Sidecar and margarita and the Italian favorite, Negroni. We usually bring our own bottles of wine but have favored the red cab from Ancient Peaks, solely because of my connection with Paso Robles. The food? Wonderful! I've sampled a wide range of entrees and have yet to have a bad meal. I'll admit never had any of the 'Starters' except for the soups (potato leek & chicken mushroom), usually ordering the Golden and Red Beet Salad. A good combination of sweet and acidic with a nice smooth goat cheese and balsamic reduction. When it's time to order it's Entrees as opposed to Pastas but both dinners have been good. The Chicken and Mushroom Fettuccine is wonderful. A rich cream sauce with white truffle and nice pieces of chicken. The Cannelloni was good, rich as well but could have used a third, left a bit hungry that night. The Spaghetti Bolognese is perfect. Deep and rich, meaty. Can't beat it. I'm also a Carbonara fan and was impressed with the guanciale offering. Very rich but so good! The orecchiette, broccoli rabe and sausage was always wonderful. A light cream sauce with a very flavorful sausage and pasta cooked to perfection. I've ordered both eggplant and chicken parmigiana, preferred the chicken, as it was more hearty and a bigger meal. The eggplant was excellent but like the cannelloni, I left hungry as it didn't come with any sides. Also had the filet mignon, cooked to perfect (for me) and it was incredible! All in all Gold Mirror has become a regular, weekly stop for me. Okay maybe 2-3 times a week. Not sure what other Italian food the city has to offer but this corner restaurant has me coming back every week! Highly recommend making reservations and checking out what they have to offer. The food. The service. The GM (got to mention Francesca) is amazing too! Thanatos for old world Italian and excellent customer service!

Yelp
We had our association banquet here this week and the service and food was quite exceptional. The room upstairs was just right for our group. Special thanks to the cooks, waiters, and Francesca (?) for her prompt and professional service to our group! Thank you!

Yelp
From the second I walked in I felt a warm welcome instantly seated with excellence service , I would recommend this place for families or a special couple looking for a memorable night :)

Yelp
I came here for a large group dinner. We had pizza to start. Flavors were good but pizza was a bit soggy. Then tried several pastas. Pasta had good texture and flavor of sauce. The salad to start was good and fresh but a bit too saturated with dressing. I tried the sea bass for my entree and was delicious. Flavor was balanced, fish was cooked great, and plates were pretty. I also tried the filet mignon and was really delicious. The desserts were ok and favorite was tiramisu.

Yelp
Recently dined at Gold Mirror, a local family owned Italian restaurant and it was an awesome experience. Had them bookmarked for years after watching Check Please Bay Area, but it took us a while to try. Our recent dinner here with some friends celebrating everyone (birthdays, new jobs, kids and puppies, being alive, etc) was a fun and delicious experience. The interior looked very old fashioned and kind of gave a Vegas meets medieval castle vibe. The evening we were there, it was a packed house, tables very close to each other, and very neighborly. They do offer a few outdoor tables in their outdoor parklet. We ordered many plates to share because we wanted to try everything. I can tell you that the house specialty, Lasagna Bolognese is really delicious. Another favorite is the Chicken Parmigiana served with rice. And the pizza Margherita is another group favorite. Made fresh outside in their oven. While I personally liked the Calamari Steak, some in our group didn't prefer this dish. And everyone agreed that the Golden and Red Beets salad we had was very stingy with the goat cheese. The desserts were fabulous. We shared the cheesecake della Nonna and the Tiramisu. And some of us had cocktails and wine. Service was good considering how busy the place was. 4.5 stars.

Yelp
I love the gold mirror!! I have been coming here for years, the food, the service, the drinks are all incredible. Posted photos are from dinner this past weekend - I normally lean towards a pasta but our waiter really sold us on the pizza from their pizza stone oven and I'm glad we tried it! Also ordered the halibut w prawns - great flavor, and the asparagus was perfectly done. Don't sleep on this Italian gem hidden in the heart of the sunset
google avatar

John N.

Yelp
This place is an institution. No need to travel to North Beach for great Italian, it's right in the sunset. Even though I lived in the Sunset for years, I had not heard of this place. But I saw it on Check Please, then my neighbor recommended it, and a friend told me about it all in the same week. If that's not a sign to check it out, I don't know what is. I was not disappointed. Great food, super service. It's a little pricey, but not bad. Will definitely return.

Yelp
Gold Mirror is quite the gem in a sea of Asian restaurants on Taraval St. I was surprised to see it so bustling inside as it looks very unassuming from the outside. I really enjoyed the Caesar salad- nicely dressed. The prosciutto and melon was a hit as well. For my entree I got the Short Rib Ravioli. Good put the portion was small. For dessert I tried the Tiramisu and it was unfortunately dry. The ladyfingers were not soaked enough and I just ended up eating the cream and berries. I'm happy that there is a decent Italian spot nearby and that I can frequent more often. Though I didn't leave full (I was hungry hah!) I enjoyed the meal and would come back.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
I always have a good time at the Gold Mirror. The staff is super friendly and welcoming and do their best to create the best dining experience for us. All the food came out delicious, including the complimentary bread, and the pizza comes freshly baked from their pizza oven. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Some of my family's favorites are the calamari, the lasagna and the rack of lamb.

Yelp
I had seen this place on Check Please bay area a bunch of years ago. Link here to that episode: https://watch.opb.org/video/gold-mirror-italian-restaurant-the-plumed-horse-nido-ou8tlq/ It was a friend's birthday and this was her pick. I LOVE an old school Italian place and was excited to try it. It is kinda a hike out there (2 buses for me) - so we did get there early for our 6:30 reservation and had a cocktail at the old school bar to wait for our friends. Love the bar scene here. My husband and I split the Ceasar salad (not as large a one as you will see on the Check Please episode) Lasagna and the veal milanese. The lasagna was great, but the veal had 2 critical issues: 1) if you are going to bread and fry a lovely chop - don't drown it in a wet lemon sauce and 2) it was WAY too salty, I didn't even finish it (OR take the leftovers home) - which is really saying something, as this girl LOVES a leftover! We split a lot of desserts, the tiramisu (Did not try as I don't like coffee) the cheesecake, and the canolli. (one friend got the ice cream sundae all for herself) All in all - Glad I went- but will not return.

Daniel A.

Yelp
Came here on several recommendations. Everything was fabulous! Service was excellent and the food was wonderful as well! Very classic straight forward Italian food. We ordered a lot! And ate everything. I had the calamari steak and I absolutely loved it! Super tender and excellent flavor. And it was huge! Lol. Also had the beat salad (which was on the specials, and I wish it was on the regular menu because I loved it. And the calamari app was excellent also. Dessert I loved the cream puffs and the bread pudding! My friend also ordered a cheese pizza for her kid and even that was super good. Our server was amazingly attentive and friendly. We could not have asked for a better experience. We will be coming back soon!

Yelp
This place is closed for renovation although this yelp says open.. since 4/24/24.. I made a special trip there with a disabled person about two weeks ago.. Please adjust the website.. and then post when it reopens..

Yelp
This is a traditional Italian dining place in San Francisco. One of my favorite lasagna I ever had. The lasagna has a great balance of ingredients all around. I also enjoyed the short- rib ravioli . Great dining experience located in the Sunset District.
google avatar

Candice V.

Yelp
We are born and raised in San Francisco and it has taken us our adult years to experience a nice evening here. I am torn because I didn't take any pics of our food. My son had my phone to keep him busy and as dishes came, we were ready to eat! We were on the second floor for a reception. It was perfect for an intimate gathering. It sat our party of about 60 people. It was perfect as it didn't feel crowded to mingle and walk around. There was a bar conveniently there for drinks too. The host of our party did a great job in planning such a beautiful gathering. Considering the size of our party, and the number of servers, they did great. But they could have used an extra server or two. Overall, it was a great time and the food was delicious. This restaurant gives you an old school City vibe.
google avatar

Jocelyn L.

Yelp
Sometimes you just crave old-school Italian food, and unfortunately there aren't many good restaurants like this in San Francisco anymore. We have a surplus of trendy, hip, Italian restaurants, but it's quite a different cuisine to have your spaghetti-and-meatballs type of place. My husband and I made a last minute reservation on a weeknight, and I'm glad we did. The place was PACKED for what I think was a Wednesday night! Wow. We showed up 15 mins early for an 8pm reservation, and actually did have to wait until 8pm to be seated because all the tables were full. The service was incredibly friendly and accommodating though. The meal started off with complimentary bread and butter. Man I really miss how restaurants used to do that everywhere back in the early 2000s! Anyway, we ended up ordering the Avocado Bay Shrimp Salad, and Spaghetti and Meatballs to start. Shrimp salad was pretty good! Spaghetti and meatballs was terrible though. It tasted too salty, and the meatballs were super bland, tasted grainy, and had no flavor. It was disappointing that I felt that I personally could make better spaghetti and meatballs myself. That's a sad statement to make as a customer at an Italian restaurant. For my entree, I got the Veal Milanese, which was fantastic. It was a nicely breaded cutlet - delicious. It was also a huge dish, so big I had leftovers for a whole second meal! My husband got the Chicken Parmigiana, which he really loved - it satisfied his old-school Italian craving! For dessert, we got an ice cream sundae to share, which was good, although the Hershey's chocolate syrup was a little too sweet for our liking. The bill ended up being $150, which was a little more than I anticipated to pay for a weeknight meal. Overall, we did have tons of leftovers though, so it was kind of worth it. Some dishes here were simply amazing, others were skippable. I can't wait to return, once I need my old-school Italian fix!

Bubba H.

Yelp
Great place but closed now (Dec 2024) for renovations. Looking forward to the reopening.

Yelp
I've been to Gold Mirror two times and both times were a bit of a disappointment. The first time the pasta in my carbonara was not cooked enough (and I don't mean al dente, I mean chunks of hard crunchy pasta). The second time I went for a friends birthday and the server forgot to put in my boyfriend's order so his meal came after we were all done eating. The server gave a very unenthusiastic apology and offered no compensation to make the situation right. Overall, mediocre food and service for the price.
google avatar

Patricia T.

Yelp
Ordered the Forest mushroom and chicken fettuccine to-go, which was alright--far from what was pictured. The pasta was a bit salty and the chicken was pink (seemed almost raw). It may have been the truffle oil, though I wasn't really pleased with the flavor. The ambience of the restaurant seemed nice, so I might bump it up a star if I ate inside and tried another dish. My friend had no complaints about the lasagna.

Yelp
Great food, Great staff and Great fun Perfect start to the holiday season at Gold Mirror. Our experience was taken up extra notches by his amazing people skills; served up by Joseph! Joe made our annual friends dinner together extra special last night. Great guy who made the whole meal worthwhile. Thanks to Joseph and all Gold Mirror staff for making our event perfect
google avatar

Charles L.

Yelp
This is a well known Italian restaurant in the Sunset. I have had good food here before. Latest was the lasagna, a signature dish of Italian cuisine. You should be able to taste the wide noodles cooked with 3 cheeses, bits of ground pork or beef, and covered in a tomato based sauce. In other words, the lasagna noodles should be a bit "al dente" or close to it. What I got was a dish that was overcooked by a lot. It was a congealed mass of all the ingredients like the cook forgot it in the back of the oven. Oh well, serve it anyway. I realize the place was busy on a Friday night but this kinda indicates they don't really care much. Service was good by Joseph.
google avatar

Victoria C.

Yelp
First time coming here with my friend late after work around 8pm. We got seated by the window and served right away. The staff were super friendly and recommended some good drink options. Food was not bad, one star off cause the corner we were sitting it was so dark. As the sun set it got super dark and hard to see which made my eyes a little teary and irritated. But the waitress was super nice and said that they will talk to the owners to add a small lamp in the corner. Overall, it was a decent place for dinner.

Yelp
This is my 1st review on restaurants since the beginning of the pandemic. Why now? Because Gold Mirror's food was excellent. Like another Yelp reviewer stated I hadn't eaten here in many years; however, I'm glad I took the opportunity to give the food another try. I ordered for pickup. I looked at the online menu, and ordered via phone. Ordered: * bowl of minestrone soup for hubby. * 2 orders of veal scaloppine - came with rice and veggies. * one 16 oz. rib eye steak, rare. Came with roasted potatoes and veggies. Note: I figured it'll be medium rare by the time I got home. Perfectly cooked. * one order of spaghetti with Manila clams. Everything was packaged in take-away cartons in a huge shopping bag. As I only live 5 minutes away by car, our food was still very hot when we got home. We had leftovers and the food was great reheated too. Please support small business and give Gold Mirror a try. I plan to do take away again. During the ongoing pandemic and once we come out of it.

Yelp
Easily one of my favorite restaurants. Authentic magnificent food, the old school Frisco feel and wonderful service is A+. A few of my favorite dishes are the calamari, sea bass, salmon, fettuccine and tiramisu.

Yelp
Made reservation for a Friday evening, table away from front door (cool night air) for 3. Glad I made reservation at 4pm as the place is already filling in. Other option is eat at bar, which is fine. I like that it is a local classy but casual place. Street parking only. Service no complaints, all very attentive and listen to your needs. Manager made her round throughout the restaurant and made connection to every table, nice touch. Every dish, whether appetizers/entrees/sides, done to perfection. Our 3rd visit here, all consistently great. Will continue to patronize this establishment.

Yelp
Great depth of flavor and was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend to people in the area.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot for those special occasions, or sit and the bar and order some apps. Old school gem.

Yelp
Veal Scallopini was wonderful! Gotta love the mushrooms. The dessert had afterwards was great as well.

Yelp
You should know two things about this place. Whether you like it will depend on whether these are attractive features or not. First, everything appears, quite deliberately and proudly, to have been unchanged for fifty years, from the decor to the menu to the vibe. Second, it's family friendly. My wife have gone at an hour we've thought the be absurdly early, and the place is packed with seniors. We also have gone and been surrounded by children. If that is what you are looking for, here is your old-school Italian restaurant to bring all your relatives to. If not, well, you'll know from the description. Food is good, generous, and well priced. It's not noveau. Service is friendly and busy. They respect you.

Yelp

Yelp
I haven't had the pleasure of dining here just yet but I will make it a point to come here soon. I just wanted to say thank you to the three staff that helped us 3 young women when a drunken man was following us closely and aggressively. We quickly entered the restaurant and asked if we could stand inside for a few minutes to avoid this prowler and the three staff immediately accomodated us and two men walked outside to assess the threat to us. They confirmed this man was following us and hovering outside where we scurried through for safety. They let us wait inside safely until our Lyft arrived and wished us a safe journey home. I cannot thank the staff enough for being accommodating and proactive on our behalf in such a scary situation. I hope to come back to enjoy Gold Mirror at its finest soon. Thank you so much!!!

Yelp
Great ambiance whether it's a family event, or a date; or even just a friendly outing. Don't quite remember the name of the drink, but it wasn't all that, need to retry this. Got to try the lasagne, and yes this was one of the most delicious plates I've tried. Will most certainly be going back. The bartenders are really friendly

Benjamin T.

Yelp
I've been going to this restaurant about 50 times during my lifetime. Hosted many parties at this restaurant. This year for my birthday, I booked 14 people and one of my friends gave me a fresh rose from the table. I paid my bill and moved on to the next place which is few door down. Two women chased me down and wanted the rose back which I was not aware but asked who took a rose and apologized and gave it back to the 2 ladies that chased me down. I also received a text voicemail. Below is my text and my bill for my birthday party. I could not sleep well for the next couple of days as I have never heard the word stole in my life. I really hope they will not use such harsh words for their future customers in an unintentional accident or overlook such as my case. Not even a thank you for dining with us....

Yelp
Meal: Dinner (Early Saturday evening around 5:00 p.m.) Party: 2 Seating: Outside (by choice) Appetizer: Calamari Entrees: Chicken & Mushroom Fettuccine // Short Rib Ravioli Luis V was our server and he was excellent! Attentive to our needs and we needed time because I came with my best friend and we are talkers - shocking! We also chose to sit outside because inside was busy and we didn't have a reservation. There was a table available but we didn't think we would be finished with our meal before the reservation was slated to arrive so we opted for the outside option. The outside ambiance included an area with less than ten tables and was intimate! The space heaters were great to warm us up along with the bread basket. Calamari was a nice way to start the meal. Meals were great! The chicken in the Fettuccine was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The short-rib ravioli had a delicious tomato sauce paired with it and the ravioli was perfect like a pillow. Two random tidbits: We did have sodas with each of our entrees and they do charge by the glass. Also, when you walk in through the entrance, there is a closed curtain - walk through the curtain to get to the host stand. I'm sorry I didn't take any photos - - you know how it is when you eat with your best friend! Chatting, eating, and no time for photos. Thank you, Gold Mirror!

Yelp
Fine dining, I have yet to find anything I don't like. I'm big on seafood. The serving size of the plate is satisfactory, everything I've tried is rich in flavor. If you like Italian cuisine I suggest you give the menu a good look over I'm sure you'll enjoy everything being served. The servers are attentive & check on how things are going without being asked, even when it's busy. Early evening can get crowded & noisy, but it's a joyful atmosphere. The 9 to 5 working class let their hair down with good company, a full bar & great food! A fine slice of life in the Parkside district

Yelp
The Gold Mirror is truly authentic Italian food. We ordered the Calamari, it's not your topical fried Calamari, it was stir fried. Wow the flavor was amazing and so crisp. We also ordered Orecchiette Broc Rabbi pasta, and Beef rib Ravioli. Dessert was Tiramisu. Excellent food and the service was fantastic. Alfonso was are waiter. The whole staff was excellent. My favorite Italian Restaurant.

Yelp
As someone of Italian heritage and living just across the street, I'd love to go more. But as a vegetarian, I'm a little shocked. I went on Saturday and not one of 17 entrees was vegetarian (in San Francisco, in 2022). It's rather surprising at an Italian establishment, compared to so many others where it is easy to find a good pasta, or risotto, or pizza. They used to have a pizza oven sitting outside at the parklet, but evidently no more. My (omnivore) friends felt awkward for me so it was a little uncomfortable for everyone. I ended up ordering eggplant parm "off the menu" which is so good you wonder why it is not on the menu. I can make a meal out of anything, but would be embarrassed to take vegetarian friends there who come over to my house-we have to go somewhere else in the neighborhood. Gold Mirror: Please consider being a bit more inclusive-your food and atmosphere are otherwise top notch!

Yelp
We came at Saturday night 8pm. We were able to get seats immediately! But service is slow, I think they only have two waitresses working. Our table did not get small plates or bread and butter until after our drinks were served. I want to see more staff on weekends. Two eggplant parmesan, stella cider, Italian sausage gnocchi, tortellini. The gnocchi was amazing! All around I had my other three friends try it and they all said it was the best. The others were good, but definitely recommend the gnocchi. I'm coming again for the gnocchi.

Yelp
I have nothing bad to say about Gold Mirror except I wish I tried it earlier in my life. I have driven by the restaurant probably a thousand times and never thought to try it until this year, mid-pandemic, and when I wanted to start supporting my local businesses. Overall-- Amazing steaks and Italian food. My favorite is their spaghetti and clams! I have gotten it twice now and both times, the dish has given me the happy dance! A close second is their tuna tartare. Fresh tuna chucks and compliments the avocado base amazingly. To go meals include fresh sourdough bread and sticks of salted butter. Perfect vehicle to soak up the leftover sauces of the entrees and tuna tartare! Please give them a try if you haven't and if you have, please continue to support them!! I know I will!
