Eater Twin Cities’ Best Dishes of the Month: July 2024 | Eater Twin Cities

"It was hard to choose only five pieces of Turkish delight at Columbia Heights’s new specialty shop for imported sweets, nuts, dried fruits, coffee, and more: there were 12 different varieties stacked in a glass case, Dubai chocolate to the left, and gooey, fresh knafeh cooking on a hot griddle to the right. My favorites from this bunch were the saffron (far left), the bright, sweet strawberry (second from the left), and the creamy, nougat-like chocolate hazelnut (far right). The Golden Nuts also has an enormous selection of imported candies, all halal — they’re made without gelatin." - Justine Jones

I just discovered an amazing dessert shop nearby, and I can't recommend it enough! The desserts are incredibly delicious and bursting with flavor. The Dubai chocolate and cunafe are absolute must-try treats—they're simply divine! The staff there are exceptionally friendly and efficient, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. Plus, they have a cozy coffee shop inside where you can sit back, relax, and savor a perfect cup of coffee. Don't miss out on this delightful spot!

This place is Top 💯 out any places I’ve been too recently. Tons of delights all throughout the store, not to mention the staff is so incredible and helped when I asked for recommendations on good things to try!!! The mango ice cream was off the charts!!! So much flavor , perfect size and tasted like a real mango!! 10 stars!!! I’m recommending this place to everyone I know! Also like the LABUBU chocolate is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!!!

Google
What a bomb place. They have such a wide variety of stuff to choose from! From perfume to every dessert under the sun. I enjoyed looking around the whole store and choosing what to get! The staff was super nice greeting me when I walked in and helped me when I was looking around. I got Dubai chocolate strawberries, Baklava and a Turkish delight. With my food the cashier gave me a complimentary cookie and Katkattat! She was super nice!! All around would say stop by!

I can’t wait to go back! The best part? The variety of treats, food and drinks you can find here is so exciting. I was able to finally find this viral peach ice cream treats that I’ve been wanting and it was delicious. They also have the viral mango option if you’re looking for that. They have the popular Dubai chocolate and these strawberry cups full of chocolate that look so good. One of my friends said she also found stuff that she normally only finds in the UK so that made her happy. They also have beautiful tea sets and a restaurant in the back that has even more options. Staff was super kind and we happened to go during one of their anniversary events and it was really fun. Pricing is fair and I like the wall of chocolate options where you can choose by the piece if you’re wanting to try something. The worst part? I wish they had more signs explaining what everything is because some of it didn’t have an English translation and although I asked a worker they didn’t understand my Q but they were still friendly! Not everything is priced either.

Spanish coffee can be either hot or cold. Turkish coffee can only be hot. Turkish one is more bitter and thinner texture. Spanish is creamier and thicker. If you drink Turkish first then it's hard to taste the coffee from Spanish lol. For Vietnamese reference, Spanish coffee is close to our Bạc Xỉu. Turkish one is close to Đen Nóng. They use different ground/bean though. Hot Turkish coffee would be best to pair with any sweet. Unfortunately, they don't have savory option for breakfast. The closest one is spicy spinach pie. They also have decent, and authentic looking desert. Quite easy parking, nice staff, decent restroom, great atmosphere

Google
What an incredible store. I dont have places like this in my town so I was enjoying an espresso while Shopping. My wife has seen people rave about Dubai Chocolate, so I got that, some baklava, and a variety of tastes featuring coconut. The staff is very sincere and helpful. I worked in this area a long time ago, much has changed. I will be back to visit this wonderful store.

Walking into The Golden Nets feels like stepping into Dubai. The atmosphere is vibrant and full of character—right when you enter, you're surrounded by sections filled with Turkish delights,, coffee, roasted nuts, spices, and unique grocery items that give serious international market vibes. They carry a wide variety of snacks, chips, sodas, and treats from around the world. Basically, if you’re craving it, they probably have it. There’s a separate café-style area called Golden Coffee where they serve hot coffee, fresh smoothies, fruit juices, and a variety of desserts. Some of the items can be on the pricier side, but the selection is unique and worth checking out. Parking isn’t super spacious, but we found a spot quickly. It’s definitely family-friendly—there’s a cozy area where people can sit and enjoy their drinks or snacks. The overall vibe is welcoming and everyone seemed nice. Service was decent, though it could be a little more consistent at times. Definitely a cool spot to explore if you're looking for a little taste of international flavor right in your neighborhood.

My husband and I made the trip from Iowa to go to the golden nuts store as we had seen it on tiktok and we're very interested to try it out their different items that they sold. When we walked in we were first graded with a huge variety of different collectors items and decor and stuff like that. And then the gentleman at the very front counter greeted us and welcomed us into their store. They have a huge variety of different options that they offer including fresh baked goods they have kunafa, they they offer a lot of different assortments of Dubai chocolate items, including the Dubai chocolate cups with strawberries in them. They have a very cute seating area in the back that also offers a variety of ice cream options and smoothie options. They offer very generous size samples of anything that is not sealed shut and I would highly recommend doing this. We ended up getting a variety platter of just different things. We went through and picked out a bunch of different items so that we get a taste of all of the different things. And although a lot of them looked alike, they were all very different in flavor. We will definitely make the trip back up there again to get something different the next time, but I would highly recommend going there. It's located in a good area. It's a very big store. It's wide open in there and they offer other things that you can buy such as grocery items.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING and the staff were so friendly and welcoming!! Is it as good at it looks? Yes it is. The kind gentleman making the baklava gave us samples and went above and beyond. Seriously my favorite store that I've found in the Twin Cities. Just GO!

Yelp
I am so incredibly happy that a middle eastern dessert shop has opened up in the metro area! The shop is massive with many middle eastern desserts, sweets, drinks, and now a recently opened ice cream/cafe area. There are a bunch of tables to sit down and enjoy your sweet treats, and the workers are always incredibly kind :) My personal favorite is the kunafa, they let you decide between more soft and cheesy, or a little bit cooled and harder. I personally like it a bit harder, but why not try both! They'll also add a sweet syrupy top. Also has the popular Dubai chocolate bar, probably the best one I've had in the metro.

Yelp
You could easily spend an hour checking out the variety of things they have to offer. From freshly made mediterranean/middle-eastern treats, to imported goods, you can let your curiosity run free. Lots of different Baklava options, sweet treats, Dubai chocolate and many more things. If you try the Dubai chocolate, know that it has a crispy/crunchy center, so be prepared for some serious texture. Service was very friendly and quick, and the place was clean and inviting.

Yelp
We finally made our way to The Golden Nuts to try the Dubai Chocolate bars. They offer two varieties: original and cookie butter, so we tried both as well as some baklava. The chocolate was thicker than anticipated, but the crunch of the filling was light and satisfying. The baklava had plenty of layers of phyllo and a small amount of filling. It was a bit challenging to navigate as the prices were not clearly posted. Overall, we spent about $20 for 2 Dubai chocolate bars and 6 pieces of baklava.

Yelp
Stopped hear recently after having some great food at the buffet next door. Was very impressed with the beautiful atmosphere and layout of the store. Everything is open and accessible. My kiddos loved building their own candy bags and I enjoyed learning about all the baked goods as well as taking some recommendations from the very polite staff. Loved my experience and will be back to try more as I did not get any spices or nuts.

Yelp
I've been to Golden Nuts 2 times and both times were amazing! The staff creates such a welcoming atmosphere and handed us samples each time. I'm a big fan of Turkish delights so I mainly come here for that and try to grab different items to try each time. The Turkish delights are really good and fresh, they have their premade ones individually wrapped, or fresh ones on the counter next to the chocolates. Their chocolate Dubai bars are insane! If you're a fan of crunchy/crispy things, highly recommend trying this out. We also tried Kunafa for the first time and it was really good! Highly recommend this place. Kicking myself because I don't have any pictures of these treats!!

Yelp
It was only my first visit, but I liked it and would return. It's a large space with lots of seating in the back, and being in a strip mall there was a good amount of parking. The two employees I interacted with were extremely kind and welcoming. I specifically went for Turkish delights, but turns out they also had: chocolate sold by the pound, fresh confections, nuts. foreign brands chips/drinks/cookies, fancy coffee pots, serveware, diffusers, and soooo much more. I haven't tried my Turkish delights yet, but got a pre-assemble pack of 10 varieties (also sold individually). I'm told that some days there's up to 28. Anyway, I'm glad I checked it out (following dinner at the Mediterranean buffet a few doors down).

Yelp
So glad I found this place on Tik Tok!! Everyone is super nice and inviting; we've been here many times and always look forward to it! Yesterday we ended up getting baklava and Dubai chocolate, it was awesome because they put my name on the large bar. So cool!! We'll be back of course!!

Yelp
What an incredibly cool place! It's a beautiful space when you first walk in with a great housewares market up front and long counters filled with fabulous treats! Nuts, snacks, ALL the Baklava, your heart desires, and beautiful Turkish delight and macaroons. An awesome selection of gummy candy as well!! You owe it to yourself to visit! It was pretty busy when we were there on Saturday evening, which I thought was awesome! Very nice owner and staff as well!

Yelp
Stopped by The Golden Nuts last weekend and was blown away. It is a middle eastern store featuring a massive selection of fresh baked pastries including knafe and baklava, along with a billion types of nuts, teas, coffees, and Turkish delights. In addition, they offer a bunch of miscellaneous stuff as well. I decided to stop in after I had lunch, so I came in to pick up some pastries. I ended up getting knafe (crispy) and the white desert pictured which I do not know the name of. This is definitely a store and not a restaurant, so don't expect to come in and sit down to eat. However, they have a massive selection of fresh, house made pastries. The knafe was fantastic, super sweet and crispy. This was my first time having knafe so I have nothing to compare to but I highly recommend trying it. The white dessert was even better than the knafe, it was incredible. I wish I knew the name, but if you see it in the store - definitely get a piece. All the deserts are sold be weight, and can definitely get pricey if you're very hungry when you come in. The staff are all super friendly and even gave me a small cup of coffee/tea while I was checking out. There is a bit of a language barrier when it comes to the specific differences between the items, but they were all very kind and let you sample. Overall, highly recommend checking out this cool, new shop!

Yelp
Food was very good, beautiful atmosphere, and very beautiful store. Would definitely recommend. Price is a little high, but definitely worth it!

Yelp
What a great addition to Columbia Heights! This store has nuts, coffee, tea, candy, pastries, and so much more. The store is beautifully set up and the food is delicious. I've tried some pastries and the Dubai Chocolate, which was excellent. I asked a lot of questions and the staff was incredibly helpful. I will be coming back.

Yelp
Of course I came for the Dubai bar and I was pretty damn upset...because it was everything I expected and now I have another dessert to obsess about! This bar is a textural masterpiece. The bars are in a glass case and come in different shapes and sizes. Once you select one they drizzle pistachio cream on top and you have the option of adding white chocolate, which I did because I subscribe to gluttony. I also grabbed a couple other treats, all with nuts, all nougaty, some with fruit, some just coconut. The couple I tried were not too sweet, great flavor, chewy, and filling like a protein bar. Service was great, there were a few of us confused on what we were looking at so one of the staff came over and explained the best sellers and gave us a little taste test. I'd come back and check out other stuff. My only suggestion is that it would be a good move for them to put labels on bakery items and the treats. Some pieces I thought were orange flavored were actually apricot, and some pink items had only coconut and were pink due to food coloring. It's probably also be fun to buy whatever and be surprised each time.

Yelp
Great selection. Their "Dubai Chocolate" is amazing. They have the supplies to make your own and a bunch of other cooking and candy items.

Yelp
I've been hearing so much raves about Turkish chocolate and treats that I had to go check out the store. This store is filled with goodies, one side of the store is just desserts and the other side is savory nuts and more chocolates that are individually wrapped. I believe $9.99 per pound. I ordered the chocolate bars that were $7 each and the cheese dessert called kunefe. I'm more of a savory pallette and if you're a cheese lover, this is for you. Warm treat that's not too sweet. There were 2 guys behind the counter that were giving us samples of the different treats and explaining what was inside. The store offers so much more than just sweets, there's serving dishes and spices, nuts, and I think there's a cafe in the back too? I saw tables and chairs like a restaurant setup.

Yelp
A really nice selection of middle eastern desserts and spices. The shop is small and unassuming from the outside. Service was really nice but didn't offer much help explaining the items. Could use some small name tags on each item to help explain. The Dubai chocolate was good, but a bit heavy on the chocolate, which didn't let the other ingredients shine.
google avatar

Tiffany V.

Yelp
Very good customer service. The guy behind the counter was friendly and he let me sample some of the desserts before I buy. The place is clean and they have a variety of nuts, Middle Eastern desserts, and the Dubai bar.
google avatar

Yelp
I was running some errands and was killing time before dinner and stumbled across this chocolate shop. The staff were nice and welcoming and explained the different flavors of chocolates. They have a lot of options to choose between from Turkish delights, macrons, chocolates, nuts/mixes, etc... It's not convenient to me, but if in the area again, I'd go back.
google avatar

Linda V.

Yelp
Stopped by to get the Dubai chocolate bar for my sister. If you're not familiar with the layout it can be confusing. I wasn't sure where to find it and the staff were busy with other customers. When I did finally spot the Dubai chocolate (it's in the case at the end of the right side) the staff saw me standing there but kept doing his own thing. Customer service is a bit awkward at the service counter but the checkout staff were really friendly. Wish the counter staff helping recognized that this was a first time visit and unfamiliar territory since not much information was offered. Maybe I stopped in on an off day since their friendly customer service and knowledge sharing is mentioned a lot by others. Will have to try again.
google avatar

Dee L.

Yelp
Their freshly made Dubai chocolate (or more accurately, Dubai-style chocolate) is excellent! They don't skimp on the ratio of creamy crunchy filling to chocolate which is why they are the best. Their kunafa is really good too. Great hours for night owls, they stay open late which I love.
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
Randomly stumbled across this place on Saturday. Really didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. Couldn't go wrong with chocolate being sold in the store (chocolate lover here). Lots of variety. Grocery items, nuts, bakery items, chocolate, and even some household/decor as well. They offer a wall of chocolate and i had no idea what flavors were what and the gentleman helping was so kind and explained the different flavors. Staff were very kind and friendly. This may be a newer business. I'd come back when I'm in the area.

Yelp
My father loves the Guava nectar drink they have here. Been here more than once and will continue to keep coming in for the famous Dubai chocolate bar and the Guava nectar drink. Place is clean, well decorated and very friendly.

Linda L.

Yelp
Golden Nuts is everything! When you first enter there is a wide selection of beautiful tea pots and other products. Then the center of the store has a feast of imported snacks and other delightful treats from the Middle East. But obviously, we made a bee line for the pastry side of the store. We did it all, kunufeh, baklava, Turkish delight, Dubai chocolate and it was all incredible! Afraid of a sugar crash? Grab a Turkish coffee too! Highly recommend a trip here!

Lara A.

Yelp
We had a great experience here today. Customer service is top notch. The knafeh is very comparable to Jordan. It is delicious. Great variety of nuts and beautiful souvenirs too. Will definitely be coming back

Yelp
I came for the Dubai chocolate and it did not disappoint!!!! Hospitality was remarkable! Wish I had more time to look around. I will be back again one day. Wish you continued success!

Amazing service, amazing sweets amazing merchandise and amazing nuts. It's the perfect place, a place I would be proud to take visiting family and friends. Keep up the good work
