"It was hard to choose only five pieces of Turkish delight at Columbia Heights’s new specialty shop for imported sweets, nuts, dried fruits, coffee, and more: there were 12 different varieties stacked in a glass case, Dubai chocolate to the left, and gooey, fresh knafeh cooking on a hot griddle to the right. My favorites from this bunch were the saffron (far left), the bright, sweet strawberry (second from the left), and the creamy, nougat-like chocolate hazelnut (far right). The Golden Nuts also has an enormous selection of imported candies, all halal — they’re made without gelatin." - Justine Jones
