First meal in Deer Valley! After a rocky start with seating (it's drafty by the doors), we settled into a cozy nook table with our friends for our first official dining experience on the mountain.
Even though it took a while to get us situated, our server was a friendly guy who did an efficient job the rest of the night. The table started with the fondue (add lamb meatballs), which was pretty good, but certainly not better than your standard decent fare. (We *did* appreciate that they blanched the broccoli and cauliflower beforehand however. Meatballs were fine.) For dinner, the two of us split the little gems salad and the beef kavalierspitz. The salad was good, crispy with fresh-tasting greens and a nice, tangy dressing. The beef, though, was phenomenal: falling-apart tender, juicy, with an incredible sauce; sides were also amazing. Honestly, it was one of the better meat dishes that we've had in a while.
For dessert, we tried three of the ice cream flavors: honey, chocolate, and the toasted oat. The scoops were *tiny* and only the honey flavor was impressive.
Sadly our daughter, who is normally a well-behaved champ at restaurants, was a complete wildling tonight, so the overall experience wasn't as pleasant for us. Prices, no surprise, are ABSURD for what you get. $19 for a teensy salad and the fondue was also through the roof expensive. Our friends very generously treated us to dinner tonight, so we're rounding up to four stars because we did think that the food, ambience, and service was pretty good.
