The Good Egg at Eat 17 - Review - Walthamstow - London - The Infatuation

"The Good Egg is a reliable Middle Eastern brunch spot with a few locations, and this Walthamstow one is tucked inside Eat 17. It's part food shop and part aspirational Walthamstow Village hangout, stocked with produce that makes Waitrose look pedestrian—mushrooms that could double as sculptural artworks, ‘vegan facon jam’, and, in summer, an Ice Cream Union hatch. The Good Egg is hidden down one side of the bakery, with two pleasant outdoor areas and a diner-like space inside, populated by young families. Dodge scooters trussed up with dinosaur balloons and parents expertly diverting a last-piece-of-pita tantrum, and nab a comfy booth. Our go-to order is the comforting za’atar fried chicken—crispy buttermilk chicken coated in za’atar and stuffed into a pita with pickles—but the chicken tahini caesar is a solid choice, too. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna photo credit: Karolina Wiercigroch Food Rundown Chicken Tahini Caesar A huge, overflowing bowl of salad with shards of pita so big and crispy they look like the remnants of a broken window. This is a decent salad, but do get the fudgy egg and the salty bacon to make it a bit more interesting. PlayMute video credit: the salad at The Good Egg ZFC The pita pocket can barely contain the amount of crunchy, juicy chicken that this sandwich comes with. The amba mayo is especially nice, and the pickled slaw does a nice job of balancing all that delicious fat—we’d like more of both, though. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna" - Sinéad Cranna

The Good Egg Walthamstow - Review - Walthamstow - London - The Infatuation

"The Good Egg is a Middle Eastern-inspired brunch spot with easygoing restaurants in Margate and Stoke Newington. This Walthamstow location is tucked inside Eat 17. So you can pop to the deli and butcher after your slice of babka and za’atar fried chicken pita. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Sinéad Cranna

Side-eye for being loud isn't a thing at family-friendly Eat 17 - Review - London - The Infatuation

"Eat 17 is a food shop, cafe, and aspirational Walthamstow Village hangout. Its shelves are stocked with the sort of hyper-seasonal and local produce that makes Waitrose look pedestrian—mushrooms that could double as sculptural artworks, ‘vegan facon jam’, multiple brands of chilli oil, and, in the summer, an Ice Cream Union hatch. The walk-in-only cafe, tucked to the side of the bakery counter, is a diner-like space populated by young families. Dodge scooters trussed up with dinosaur balloons, pushchairs, and discarded toast crusts in order to get a comfy booth. The brunch dishes are decent—nicely seasoned avocado on toast, a good full English—and at lunch, the pizzas get the job done. It’s best for families who want an easy setting to dump their bags for an hour or so, and not be judged if a last-slice-of-pizza tantrum occurs. Food Rundown Eat 17 Breakfast This is a pleasant full English breakfast. The best bit is the sausage—meaty, a bit peppery, and cooked perfectly so that every side is nicely crisp. The bland black pudding is a miss, though. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Avo Toast There’s a welcome citrussy blast of lemon, lots of chilli oil, the poached eggs are runny, and the avocado is creamy but still has some structure to it. It’s a very good avocado on toast. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna" - Sinéad Cranna

Popped in for a coffee and slice of pizza. Good spot for a quiet lunch. Tasty pizza by the slice warmed up. It was a week day so there were lots of mums and babies, but the lay out and acoustics didn’t make it an issue.

Delicious meal out for a weekend lunch at Eat 17, everything we ordered was delicious and the staff were friendly. The miso cod with the aubergine was so good, and the pea risotto was one of the best risottos I've had and was so silky. We will definitely return

The food was amazing and the staff were lovely with great recommendations. I only rate it overall 4 stars as it is a little expensive but this is the norm for the area nowadays. Regardless of the price it was great quality, would defo come again and highly recommend! We had the mushroom and truffle pizza and the ZFC pitta with the homemade fries!

We had a lovely meal here. Chloe our server was fantastic, and it was extremely well priced. Someone below described the final bill as a “mega bill”, complete nonsense, two people can eat for less than £20 each.

We were a table of eight, arriving for brunch on a Thursday without a booking, but the service was fast. The staff were attentive and clearly cared about pleasing us. The menu was inventive and the food was excellent.

Eat17 is a great place to have brunch, lunch or dinner. It gets busy so I recommend booking in advance. I’ve been here a few times, and each time it’s been consistently good. The prices are not the cheapest in the area but I think the atmosphere, taste and service make up for it. The cauliflower soup sand eat17 pilsner beer were standouts for me.

We were really looking forward to visiting The Good Egg – as Walthamstow locals, we’d hoped it might become our go-to spot. The staff were warm and friendly, but unfortunately the experience was a total nightmare, with a mega price tag. Service was slow and disorganised, with our food arriving at very different times – one dish came nearly 20 minutes after the rest. We were given water but had to ask multiple times for glasses. The most worrying part, though, was the handling of allergens. The team seemed really unsure and visibly stressed when we raised an allergen question. They switched our order three times, because of uncertainty about ingredients. When our third option arrived we were served the wrong pizza, but after a long wait we just accepted it. We really want to love this place – it has so much potential, and we’re rooting for you to get things on track x
