"The Good Egg is a reliable Middle Eastern brunch spot with a few locations, and this Walthamstow one is tucked inside Eat 17. It's part food shop and part aspirational Walthamstow Village hangout, stocked with produce that makes Waitrose look pedestrian—mushrooms that could double as sculptural artworks, ‘vegan facon jam’, and, in summer, an Ice Cream Union hatch. The Good Egg is hidden down one side of the bakery, with two pleasant outdoor areas and a diner-like space inside, populated by young families. Dodge scooters trussed up with dinosaur balloons and parents expertly diverting a last-piece-of-pita tantrum, and nab a comfy booth. Our go-to order is the comforting za’atar fried chicken—crispy buttermilk chicken coated in za’atar and stuffed into a pita with pickles—but the chicken tahini caesar is a solid choice, too. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna photo credit: Karolina Wiercigroch Food Rundown Chicken Tahini Caesar A huge, overflowing bowl of salad with shards of pita so big and crispy they look like the remnants of a broken window. This is a decent salad, but do get the fudgy egg and the salty bacon to make it a bit more interesting. The amba mayo is especially nice, and the pickled slaw does a nice job of balancing all that delicious fat—we’d like more of both, though. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna" - Sinéad Cranna
