"One of our favorite vegan restaurants, Don Bucio’s, closed earlier this year. Now that team (also of Amaru and Bloom fame) launched The Basement, a new cocktail lounge, in its place. And while the Logan Square location may be the same, the food is decidedly not vegan—everything from steak frites, to branzino, to maple szechuan glazed tenders are on the menu." - john ringor, veda kilaru, nick allen

I’m so glad this place just opened up! The atmosphere is great, with tons of fun things to look at that are hung on the walls and a few different rooms that have different seating options including tables, couches, and armchairs. The drinks were so unique and tasted great, definitely a great spot for signature craft cocktails. My favorites were the Neapolitan and the Adams Apples. We also tried the chicken tenders which really surprised me because they were delicious with the maple szechuan sauce they put on them and the ranch on the side for the fries was great too. You can tell that they took the time to care about the little details, like adding tasty garnishes to drinks and adding great sauces to a dish like chicken tenders which normally wouldn’t be a standout dish like it is here. We also took a seasonal cookie to-go, which was Lucky Charms flavor that day, and it was also delicious! Everyone working there was so kind too. They asked what we thought of things and chatted with us about their personal favorites. Can’t wait to go back and try more of the food and drinks!

The Basement in Logan Square is a fantastic hidden gem. This cozy cocktail lounge combines nostalgic 90s charm with modern touches. The warm wooden walls and retro décor make it feel like a stylish throwback. Enjoy inventive cocktails, delicious dishes like smoked fish dip and Steak & Frites, and finish with a giant cookie. A unique spot where the past and present come together perfectly.

Great late night spot with a truly unique vibe! From walking in and being warmly greeted and sat by the super friendly host to a hilarious conversation with the bartender, we had a blast! The atmosphere is part Grandparents basement and part Dads den (thinks 70s Man cave). Filled with old paintings, photos, taxidermy, and living room furniture minus the plastic covers. It sparked forgotten memories and untold stories. We ordered a couple tasty drinks off the hand crafted cocktail menu and was not disappointed. The Paloma was bright and fresh with a clean citrus kiss and the old fashioned brought memories of Kentucky. After some chatting we ordered the food special for that evening that was “TV Dinner Combo” which included hand breaded chicken tenders, Mac and cheese, thinly sliced pork belly, elote style corn and their take on a Little Debbie Cosmic Brownie. It really hit that late night craving and had us fueled up to keep the night going. Only thing is we wished it was open later. Cheers!

I love this bar! I've been twice and intend to return with friends. The staff are so friendly and funny! The food is good, I got the ricotta and loved it. My friends got the smash burger and bang bang cauliflower and all was well liked! The cocktails are so unique in a good way. My favorites are the Bye You and the Frozen Cuban. If the owner reads this - please update your signage! It's a little intimidating to walk into and the signage doesn't do the place justice! I think new signage would go far!

Yo, if you want to hang out in your midwestern punk/emo friends basement back in the mid 2010s this is the place, it makes you feel right at home. Great food and delicious drinks. This might be my new go to spot

I like the concept of this but I don't think it was executed well. Food was really good; my partner loved the burger. The food seemed a bit elevated compared to the drinks which I liked but didn't quite understand. Drinks were okay, maybe even confusing. Unfortunately, I didn't like the bye you; tasted like cough syrup. I think that's where the concept didn't make sense. If I'm drinking in my basement, why are there no elevated cocktails of what I would have growing up in the basement? Why can't I ice the table next to me? Where is the boozy kool-aid or crappy beers? Is this the adult version of my basement or a restaurant decorated like my basement? Additionally, this place is set up more like a restaurant, which surprised me. I thought it would be more like open seating with mismatched chairs and sofas and more a hangout than a restaurant. The weird thing is: they have both. So I'm really not sure what this place is (restaurant or bar or both). It's quiet enough to talk and music slaps. I would go again if the drinks and the space felt more like a basement than just decorating it like one.

Yelp
We had a pretty good experience at this new local bar. Easy to get to with a laid back environment. The service was very polite and prompt without being too much in your business at all. Good drinks - we didn't eat but the drinks were pretty good and boozy.

Yelp
We stopped in here for a quick drink after dinner nearby. The space is interesting, they've created three separate spaces, all with a cozy basement feel. There's a mix of tables and chairs along with loveseats and armchairs that look straight out of an 80s basement. The end tables look exactly like ones my parents had. The place was pretty empty for a Saturday night, I hope that's not the norm. It's possible the curtains are not helping to attract enough people. The food and drink menus are eclectic. I got the Frozen Cuban and husband the Piña Coco Nana. My drink was good and interesting. It was less sweet than I was expecting and had almost a chocolatey mint finish. My husband wasn't sure he bought the server's claim that his stink would be spirit forward, but it was and he seemed to really enjoy it. If you're looking for a place on Milwaukee for a drink, give it a shot.

Yelp
Just plain good times. Highly recommended. Can't wait to go in the coming days with a friend.

Yelp
This has been such a lovely date night at The Basement. First of all they have 3 cozy seating areas that can accommodate conversation or a great meal. We chose their Sunday Special which was 2 Old Fashioned, 1 appetizer to share and 1 steak Frites for $45. We added the carrots because we wanted to try them. But honestly, the food portion without the carrots would have been enough. From start to finish everything was robust with flavor and beautifully presented. We can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Immediately when I walked in, I was transported back to the 90's. The music, the cocktails, the wall decor, and the food inspiration all yearn for an earlier and simpler time in my life. You won't be disappointed in what you get. My spouse and I got the Mountain Dew cocktail and the Bye You cocktail and raved about it all night. Great place to try!
