If I could give half stars I would give The Great Oak Steakhouse 3.5 stars. My husband and I celebrated our last anniversary here. It was our first time and we were looking forward to it. The ambiance was okay, but I wouldn't call it romantic. You could see the casino crowd walking past the windows ( we were seated by a window not far from the entrance), which didn't bother us, but not exactly romantic.
Our service was mixed - while our server was friendly, and very knowledgeable, he seemed to go on forever about the dishes. It was a bit overboard, and seemed a bit rehearsed. We just wanted to hear what his recommendations were, and not a long history of where everything came from. As knowledgeable as he was, he kept disappearing and would take a long time to come back to refill drinks or bring out our next course.
We started with the Farm Ocean Crudo (our server's recommendation), the scallops, and a salad ( I cannot recall the name). I expected to like the tuna belly more, but I preferred the Wagyu. I love scallops and thought these would be great, and while they were pretty good they didn't live up to my expectations. The salad was probably one of my favorite parts of the meal. It was light, fresh and delicious. I had the New York steak (medium well) and my husband had the bone-in ribeye. We both enjoyed our steaks, but agreed that we have had better at other steakhouses. Our sides - mashed potatoes and cream corn were very good, especially the potatoes! The wine was overpriced and average. For desert, we ordered the butter cake. I would've been happy with that dessert alone because it was rich and sweet, but we were surprised with a complimentary panna cotta which was even better than the dessert we had ordered! It was light and refreshing, and the perfect ending to our meal!
It was great to check out The Great Oak Steakhouse, and I would recommend it if you are looking for a nicer steakhouse in the area, but if you don't mind driving a bit, I feel that there are better places out there.
