"The Greek Spot, a casual staple off U Street NW where Supreme Court justice Sonia Sotomayor is known to stop by for gyro platters, shared on its Facebook page that a man “assaulted and threatened” one of its employees Monday. Owner Kosta Dionisopoulos tells Washington City Paper that a female employee working behind a counter asked the man to put on a mask before entering the restaurant and write down his name for contact tracing purposes. Dionisopoulos says the man called his employee a bitch, threatened to empty a bucket of water on her, and pelted her with everything within reach: plexiglass, a tip jar, and desserts. The owner says he had to close the restaurant for more than an hour and sent his shaken-up employee home with a full day’s pay." - Gabe Hiatt

Ordered the salmon wrap and our was really good. I wasn't sure about the feta sauce that came with it but it was actually so rich. They put plenty of salmon on it so it was hearty and filling. The hot sauce went perfect on it! One thing I would ask is that the vegetables are fresher, would been nice to have bitten into a fresh, cold, crunchy. I also ordered the broccoli crunch salad which was also delicious. I tried the housemate humus and it was alright, little clumpy and not potently flavorsome enough for me. Needed more lemon, spice, or something. They have lots of other sides and options though. Service was excellent. The place is like an old house with outdoor seating. Highly recommend for lunch. Priced ok, could be slightly more affordable.

Google
Thank you for the FEATHER inside the soup, very fresh chicken comes with a special feathers on! Very disgusting, and nobody tried to resolve the issue. Lets see if they’re gonna gave a comment now about the situation

Google
I got the side sampler and the lamb and beef gyro. I'm so happy. Side sampler included tzatziki, hommos, a couple bars of cheese, spicy feta, a chickpea salad, and dolmas! Great deal and delicious, The only reason I dock a star is bc it did not include olives (well, it had three individual olives) which are listed on the online description as well as the ordering app I use. I can't eat too much chickpea stuff so would've preferred olives over the chickpea salad... All the pros outweight this one misstep though! I recently got Greek from a restaurant owned by a Michelin star chef... Was thoroughly unimpressed. Tiny container of one of these sides for just a few dollars less than Greek Spot's beautiful spread, and it was inedible. I was very impressed with the quality and portion size. Came with extra side of pita. I also got the lamb and beef gyro with feta sauce, so nice and hefty. I really enjoyed the feta sauce. Generous on the feta. Again, fantastic value and portion. I got this a few days ago and I am STILL finishing it! All together

Google
Usually delicious food. Fantastic. However once you try to order delivery? Everything goes to Hell. All of their systems don’t work for whatever reason, their manager is unresponsive. I paid $40 for a meal after not being able to eat for 48 hours, waited two hours for it to be delivered with no text or correspondence from the restaurant. I could not pick it up due to COVID, communicated that with the team, and the only response they had is “I’m sorry :(“ What am I supposed to do with that????? Terrible communication across the board, no refund or resolution, will not be eating here again. And I want my refund!

First off the service was amazing, one of the best Gyro's I've had since I moved to the DMV. I like the meat to hit the flat top for a minute or two before assembly and they alsp put the pita on longer(which I didn't ask for but man am I glad they did) As someone who has been eating them since birth, I found it so good I was dancing on the sidewalk. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the cheese pie or Tiropita was good but the oil they had used was no longer good. It tasted like it had turned and left a stale oil flavor almost rotten, that I couldn't get past. Sorry to say I ate half and had to toss the rest. But I will say this. Most places do not carry it because so many Americans do not know what it is and they are missing out. ( please do not take it off of the Menu, I'll be making a monthly trip just for it) Like you know what Spanakopita is but not the better cheese version. But I will be back for sure. I need to try more of the menu.

Google
DO NOT ORDER FROM "THE GREEK SPOT" app!!!!! It takes your money and does not submit your order. The employees will not correct or return your money! They told me they don't use the app anymore, however the app is still available in the app store! REMOVE IT! The app still "welcomes" you and takes your order. It will not go through but it will take your money.

Google
Been craving a lamb/beef gyro and after hearing many good reviews about this spot I gave it a try today. All things considered with this quarantine going on I had to take out the food which was simply delicious! Great portion of meat in the gyro platter, and the fries and salad were delicious. Tzatziki sauce is homemade and light and a compliment to the meat, pita and salad. Side note you must try that soda Mash which does not have a lot of sugar AND the baklava.

Yelp
I was in a crunch in a weekday evening and needed dinner pronto. I came across this establishment on UberEats and decided to give them a try. Food: i ordered the Gyro Platter which came with tons of gyro meat, a rice pilaf, a salad, and one piece of pita cut into fours. The platter also came with a small tzatziki and a salad dressing. I also ordered fries. The gyro meat was good, standard gyro meat. The rice pilaf was bland and mushy in my opinion. The salad, though the toppings were good, the lettuce was a sad iceberg. I didn't eat the rice but everything else was decently edible and enjoyable. I received a bunch of fries. A whole bag full, but they were cold. I was too hungry to warm them up in the oven before eating. 6/10 Value: the gyro platter was $21 and the fries were $7. I would say the value for the platter was pretty good because there really was a lot of meat. I wish the salad could have hand a slightly higher quality of lettuce. The value for the fries was good. I just wish they hadn't been cold. 7/10 Overall: I probably won't be back, not because the food is bad, but because it wasn't particularly good. 6.5/10

Yelp
While exploring U St, I spotted a little shop on 11th called The Greek Spot and immediately knew I'd found my lunch plans for the day (I mean, who wants to cook on a rainy Saturday afternoon?) I was the only one in there when I went in, which would normally worry me, but (1) it was raining, and (2) it was like 3:00 pm, so hardly a normal meal time. I ordered the gyro pita with fries inside and then sat around for about 10 minutes while my order was made. The wait was reassuring that they were making my order fresh, and they were also playing a great playlist of songs that were top hits from approximately 2013. An incredible vibe. Got my food, went home, and even after the walk, the wrap was so good! A generous portion for the price (surprisingly affordable food for DC), the gyro was tender, the fries weren't soggy (and well worth an extra $1), and the sauce was nice and creamy to cut the density of the meat and fries.

Yelp
i think this would be more of a 3.5/5 but it was overall a good spot. Ordered through grubhub and it was ready very quickly. Easy pickup. Meat was good but it was very feta forward and little to no tzatziki (at least it felt like). The tomatos/onions were not as tasty/fresh as I wanted. It was still enjoyable, and I like the vibe of the place -- off of U Street, seems like a local spot but maybe not my favorite gyro. Also ended up being a bit more expensive than I anticipated for just a basic gyro - over $16.

Lisa Z.

Yelp
Food was meh. I got the chicken soup and mousaka. Wish I had eaten at Zorba's instead.

Katie H.

Yelp
Delivery person did NOT inform me order arrived. I specifically checked off that I did not want contactless delivery. No text, no email with updates. Otherwise food was spot on

Justin K.

Yelp
Love this place! This place has been one of my D.C. favorites for as long as I can remember. It is consistently amazing. Everything is fantastic here, I believe they have the best Tzatziki in the DMV! Gyro platter is one of my favorites and what I recommend to all first timers. Everything else on the menu is fantastic!

Adam T.

Yelp
The gyro is really tasty, and fast and super friendly take out. This location is clean and conveniently located! The sampler plate is my favorite!

Tiffany N.

Yelp
Delicious, quick, Greek gyros with a feta sauce at a reasonable price. Good portions, friendly staff. Some small space for dining in. Perfect for a cheap quick bite while out.

Latoya E.

Yelp
Our son was in the ICU at Children's and I had a Gyro craving. Online ordering was very simple. I ordered two gyros and two fries. I enjoyed my gyro and wish the sauce on it were more like a Tzatziki sauce opposed to a feta sauce... was a bit thick, but the gyro meat was so delicious!! The fries were also tasty, well seasoned! Perfect meal for a night at the hospital! Thank you!

Sherah I.

Yelp
Stopped here for a quick bite after the gym. The woman who took my order was extremely nice!! I inquired about the vegan options and she not only directed me to the vegan/vegetarian menu but she also told me about the different modifications that could be made to make it a vegan dish. The food was delicious as well! I got the falafel platter without feta and substituted the fries for the pasta.

Danny B.

Yelp
When it comes to gyros or chicken souvlaki, this is a great spot to go to. The meat is blasted with flavor and the size of they gyro is big. My only, and I mean only complaint, is I wish they had more sides, like French fries. You can get like a salad or bag of chips, but the chips are a little over priced, mind as well go to wawa or 7-11 across the street for a bag of chips. In general, would recommend this spot for some gyros or chicken souvlaki.

Kalila W.

Yelp
Definitely the best gyro ive had probably ever. I really like the feta sauce as an alternative to the tzatziki. First visit i also ordered the fire feta dip.. soooo so tasty. Mad the rest of it went bad before i could finish it, but today on my return saw they sold small containers of it for $1.00!!!! Gimme 3 of those! And the woman on the counter offered to put the spicy feta dip on my sandwich instead of the regular, noticing i must really like the spicy version. ABSOLUTELY! Didnt know that was on option. Will continue to support this small business! Great quality food. Went to greece recently and fell in love with moussaka which they also serve at this spot- will definitely try that or the pasticio next!

Jeff H.

Yelp
Good and consistent food. Easy walk from any of the music venues in the neighborhood. Perfect spot for quick food before a show.

Rachele M.

Yelp
Delicious food friendly service. What more can you ask for? The place is cute and free common sense book.

Christine O.

Yelp
Thank god for this place. Hope it stays here forever. FYI the platter is basically two meals

Danna L.

Yelp
The amount of food I was given left me pleasantly surprised. Great price and great location. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Employee was kind as well!

Shari D.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed my lunches at The Greek Spot, it's super cute and quaint. Their gyro's are so filling, and there are so many menu items to try. I enjoy their salmon gyro the most, it's well cooked and seasoned. The host/server I've seen there has been helpful and takes her time reviewing orders to ensure you get exactly what you want. They have indoor seating-but their patio seating, is super comfy and attracts a crowd, so get there early if you want to eat outside!

Gisele M.

Yelp
Excellent! Classic gyro in soft, warm pita, the best roasted corn on the cob. And serious quantity - that gyro was like a three day thing. Always get the tzatzik.

Evan J.

Yelp
I requested that they remove dairy products from my gyro and they completely ignored it. Zero consideration for dietary requirements, disappointed by their thoughtlessness.

Swaathi R.

Yelp
Love the selection of Greek dishes and desserts! Super easy spot for take out with quick, yet friendly staff! Recommend any of the plates and desserts

Shantal W.

Yelp
A hole in the wall joint with extremely high quality, fresh food! I love that everyone I come my food is made to order and so hot! Because it's so fresh, call ahead to order or make sure you have a few minutes to spare to wait for you food and then enjoy! I ordered the gyro pita and French fries. Make sure to ask for half feta cheese, half tzatziki sauce for your gyro. You can thank me later. It makes all the difference. The meat is cut thin and is extremely tender. The whole sandwich practically melts in your mouth! And the French fries!!!! Do not come here without ordering French fries!!!! They're a thick cut which I don't normally like but the way they fry and season them is absolutely everything!!! It's a new favorite lunch spot for me. Can't wait to go back soon!

Evertte W.

Yelp
I had the grilled pork platter that came with salad, pita bread, and orzo pasta. Both the pasta and pork skewers were over cooked and lacked flavor. The next time I go I will try the beef and lamb, I heard it's really good.

George P.

Yelp
I'm from out of town and this place had quality food and awesome customer service. Anyone looking for great food for a great price. Thank you Greek spot

Shawn T.

Yelp
Went here with a friend because we wanted some Greek food. A cozy place right off of U St. We both had the gyro platter. Had a generous, very generous portion of Greek salad, orzo, pita, gyro. It was very tasty and we will be back for the price and portion size. I'm happy to give this place my business.

Bill V.

Yelp
Really good food. Quick service would definitely go back for the yero combo. And I even found a good spot to park on the street.

Ashley E.

Yelp
I ordered a gyro and fries once before and it was great. This experience was very different. The chicken skewers and the chicken souvlaki were bland and dry. The baklava is dated two days ago and is very tiny.

Adam M.

Yelp
3.5 stars I had the chicken souvlaki pita and a side of fries. The pita was pretty good but on the smaller side. It was served with a huge quantity of very average steak fries that could have used some more salt or seasoning. This restaurant has similar offerings to Marathon Deli in College Park, but with higher prices and food that is not quite as good. I might return if I was in the area and just skip the fries next time.

Ashley S.

Yelp
Consistently very good! This is one of my favorite go to spots for Greek food. I always get the chicken gyron and fries. They always give you lots of fries, enough to share. I prefer pick up or dine in over Uber delivery. One time with delivery the bag fell apart in transit. Definitely recommend if you are in the U st area.

William M.

Yelp
Very good casual Greek spot. Really enjoyed the sausage pita sandwich I got (Loukaniko) and the spanikopita was very solid as well. Cute space too.

Kayley B.

Yelp
Great quick bite in DC! We got a gyro pita and veggie gyro pita. The Veggie gyro pita was perfectly seasoned. The inside and outside have great seating, very relaxed. Would highly recommend this spot!

Alex K.

Yelp
Man oh man. Highly recommend treating yourself to some of this consistently delicious Greek food. The prices seem to be a bit higher when ordering delivery from Uber Eats rather than directly (though I can't say I blame them during these covid times). Do yourself a favor and order the tiropita (cheese pie) but be sure you have someone to share with. The cheese is so creamy and rich and the filo is perfectly light and flaky. I wished I could eat more than a few bites but it's so rich! I also tried the gyro platter. The meat was deliciously seasoned and thinly sliced, the pita was warm and soft, the salad was fresh (the dressing was a bit plain but oh well), and the orzo was the perfect way to round out the meal. If you think that's a lot of food you're right - the platter was a STUFFED takeout box and I had leftovers the next day. Score!

Derrick S. T.

Yelp
This spot came in clutch after a long day of hanging out. Got the gyro platter that had plenty of meat. The gyro wrap was good as well. One of the better Gyro spots I have had in the area.

Katie S.

Yelp
Very good! I really liked the gyros, they were stuffed, very filling. The avgolemono soup was pretty thin, not much orzo at all. I'll be back for the gyros for sure.

Anthony M.

Yelp
It's been a while since doing a review so I figured I would add one here. I've been a satisfied customer each time I come here to the Greek spot. It is difficult to stay away from the gyro platter as it provides piles of meet along with salad, orzo, tzatziki, and pita. The chicken is fantastic as well. Perfect place to order a platter from if you're hungry. Don't shy away from the subs either haven't tried them but have heard they are good.

Anthony M.

Yelp
Falafel tasted like it was cooked in old grease and was also overcooked. I also ended up getting sick shortly after eating. I will never eat from this place again.

Christine J.

Yelp
Decent greek food on u street! Order the gyro sandwich and platter. Both came with TONS of meat! I almost felt like the sandwich in particular had almost too much meat as a ratio to the other topics you expect on the sandwich. My fiancé didn't mind. He gladly accepted extra meat for himself! Fries were good too! Would recommend

David Z.

Yelp
Been craving a lamb/beef gyro and after hearing many good reviews about this spot I gave it a try today. All things considered with this quarantine going on I had to take out the food which was simply delicious! Great portion of meat in the gyro platter, and the fries and salad were delicious. Ayonna J.

Yelp
The food looked really good but there was no seasoning at all. I was really disappointed after seeing all the good reviews. The Chicken and orzo had no taste. The dressing they gave tasted like plain olive oil even after mixing it. I've never had food that tasted like nothing. I'm just so upset because I was looking forward to this meal after my 12 hour shift. Now I have to go cook lol.

Rebecca E.

Yelp
Read the reviews and decided to check it out. I must have ordered the wrong item because my food was just plain. I ordered the chicken soulavki and a side of fries. The chicken had absolutely no seasoning and flavor, there was wayyyy to much onion and it still tasted like nothing. The pita itself was made amazing and it tasted great by itself. The fries were delicious and had a great portion that two people could have shared easily. For the price of $14 I expected better portions for the pitas and taste. I've never had flavorless food from a Greek spot but there is a first for everything. However I was very hungry so nothing was going to waste. I wish I had gotten the gyro instead!! But I wouldn't return and do not recommend.

Anna Lynne B.

Yelp
The food & costumer service are unmatched! Their local business has been in business for 17 years and the food explains why!! Highly recommend a mix of the house feta sauce & taziki on a gyro!

Savanna T.

Yelp
IM A PESCATARIAN AND THERE WAS A CHICKEN BONE IN MY SALMON WRAP AND THE OWNER REFUSED TO REFUND ME!!! I don't know about you guys, but I'm big on customer service and this place just doesn't have it! My family decided to eat here while we were in town on business (5/19/22). I placed my order 40 minutes before the restaurant closed. I ordered a salmon wrap, the half chicken and a carrot cake. The carrot cake had no icing, this was just something I wasn't expecting; and the half chicken that was ordered for my fiancé and infant daughter was completely unappetizing that they just could not eat it. The worse part is, as I'm eating my salmon wrap, I bite down into something extremely hard. I immediately open up the wrap to see what I bit into and there it is, a chicken bone full with meat. At that point, I try to call the restaurant (9:37p) and no one picks up. They were closed at 9:30p. So we take pictures, discard the food and decide to just call the next day. I'm hung up on twice before I finally speak with a younger gentleman over the phone who advised me that I would have to come in to return the funds on the original card. He was pleasant, so was I. When I arrive to the restaurant, I'm met by the same younger gentleman. I show him the pictures and he advises that his boss is calling. His hands me the phone and says his boss (I was given the name Kosta Dionispulos) wants to talk to me.... okayyyy... so the boss gets on the phone and tells me there's no possible way that that could happen... I'm in shock like I would just make something like this up... after a bunch of back and forth and very insensitive comments made by Kosta, I decided that I would just call my card company and handle it that way and make sure everyone is aware of how this place conducts their business. After I voiced that, Kosta then offered to give me $16 towards my $37 bill. I was offended. When I told my fiancé what happened he couldn't believe it. He tried to handle it, and again, disrespect. I'm still in shock!!! Good luck to anybody who eats here!

Anthony V.

Yelp
love the gyro platter with extra meat....WORTH EVERY PENNY! service is great..I called and ask what's good to order...Angel referred the platter and he was right....if you like gyros...this is the place!

Alexandra W.

Yelp
I was so pumped to eat here with a friend because where I live in Charlotte, quality REAL Greek food is hard to come by...so imagine my utter sadness tat when I ordered my chicken kabob plate that it came with a Spanish type of rice - both in look and flavor. That is one of my least favorite types of rice that I ended up throwing all of the rice away (I am GF so cannot comment on the pita). However, the feta chunks, the salad, the chicken, and that tzatziki were all flavored wonderfully and I really enjoyed the plate - which was overflowing, the best way, of course, that at the end I didn't care that much about the rice anymore.

Mike W.

Yelp
Sweet lady at the front counter that's the owner ....and she's Greek. Tasty casual Greek fare.... Great for lunch!

Nellie N.

Yelp
I work right next door and let me tell you, the food is AMAZING. Me and my boyfriend will sometimes treat ourselves to take out and this place never fails to impress.

Marc M.

Yelp
A solid Gyro. There is really nowhere to get a good Gyro in the Logan/Shaw area, but these guys are always consistent.

Vanessa D.

Yelp
Those fries . The most PERFECT blend of spices with the most crispy, hot fries. Absolutely scrumptious. And the amount!!! It almost seemed like it'd never end it was wonderful. I'll be back four the actual Greek food. Seating outside was clutch

Jerome D.

Yelp
Best seasoned fries in the dmv area! Got the combo platter and has large portions, and fresh! Affordable! Fast service and very accommodating. Now I've found a new GoTo spot! Great for take out! Has plenty of outside seating.

Nicky C.

Yelp
Check your gyro pita before you leave the establishment! I ordered the gyro pita from here and on two separate occasions got an old hard pita that was like a cracker on the bottom, and had a couple of pieces of meat that were burnt black!
