The 21 Best Restaurants On Martha’s Vineyard - Martha's Vineyard - The Infatuation

"This Chilmark favorite has been open since 2009—it’s a farm, it’s a bakery, and, yes, it’s got farmstead cheese. Visit the farmstand for freshly baked bread, sweet treats, orange rind-covered Prufrock cheese, milk, preserves, and meats raised right on the farm. It’s a great stop to stock up on a ton of stuff for your visit to the island, because starting your day with a freshly baked pastry and snagging some bread and cheese for later is the correct life choice. The fact that there is excellent cheese being made completely on-island, with milk from their very own herd of cows, is nothing short of miraculous—swing by and peep the creamery operation yourself." - morgen schroeder, tanya edwards

Lovely location, come to try out some yummy cheese and take some merch with you because at the end of this summer season they are closing shop!! I got the cutest bucket hat and tote bag to remember this awesome place. Hopefully one day they can open up again

Such a charming and inspiring place. If you have the time, book a Splendid Afternoon...it is indeed splendid! Beautiful scenery, responsible and humane farming, delicious cheese, meats and bread. Take a bottle of wine and lean in to the experience! You won't be disappointed!

This place was one of the highlights of our trips to Martha’s Vineyard. We did the farm tour which was really cute and I had a nitro coffee which was great. The farm shop sells high quality produce - we got some focaccia and the award winning cheese :) such a positive, great vibe at this place!

First time to MV. We read in one of the local sites that Grey Barn was a must for baked goods. They were 100% correct! I was a highlight memory because of quality of their baked goods. I ordered a strawberry/rhubarb and cheese danish. They were the freshest, best tasting danishes I had ever had. It’s been a while since I had the rhubarb. Reminded me when I was younger. Rhubarb is not common these days. Bought the cheese danish for day 2 but it didn’t last beyond day one. Also got the boule. We ate on it over a few days. Very good! My daughter got the ham and cheese croissant. She thoroughly enjoyed it. Customer service was A+, friendly and warm. I went back on a Wednesday before we departed. Sadly, the farm stand is closed in Wednesdays. I also just read that Grey Barn might pare back the business after the summer. Very sad news. These pastries should be award winning if they’re not and should remain an island necessity. I hope it all works out for the owners and the community. Thanks Grey Barn for a lifelong memory. The strawberry/rhubarb danish took me back to my youth.

Absolutely mind blowing cheese and pastries. We tried the cookie, the scone, and the breads and loved all of them. We also went on their cheese tasting and farm tour and loved the whole experience . Must visit farm in Martha’s Vineyard

The Grey Barn is an excellent place to stop for well curated bread, cheese and local meats. The way it should be - local love that’s healthier for people and the earth! They also have great gifts and the owners are lovely. A ‘must stop spot’ while in Chilmark - they pump in a lot of care and love and you can tell as soon as you walk inside. *the sign is not that big on the road, so keep an eye out as you are getting close so you don’t miss it*

We had an amazing feast of great cheeses and wonderful bread! Got to see the farm animals as well. Olympia, our hostess, did an amazing job!

Google
Wonderful barn with tasteful bread and cheese. Very relaxing barn. Coffee is also good. Cats and roosters are the plus. Just somewhat pricey and same for all places in MV. Highly recommended.

Yelp
We came here after seeing amazing social media posts. The farm is beautiful with so many areas to walk around. Adorable rabbits and chickens. The staff isn't too welcoming tho. We felt as if we were a bother to them actually. Maybe because it was the end of season and the employees were over it. But we felt like we were intruding. They didnt ask us if we wanted a tour or if we wanted to sample anything. There was a limited amount of bread and cheese. We got to see cheese being made and the beautiful garden. They weren't busy either. It was just us and another couple. We left without buying anything. We will not return. It was a complete let down. Visit Morning Glory Farm instead.

Yelp
Such a cute farm. Large parking area as well. The shop has nice options but they don't sell food to eat on the premises. They also sell out at the bakery if you don't go in the morning.

Yelp
This farm focuses on their cheeses, baked goods and their animal meats which are all very tasty. They may have some potted herbs and vegetable plants for sale depending upon the time of year that you visit. Their farm stand has some mercantile such as kitchen tools, cookbooks, linens and the like but they really focus on their food products. The staff is pleasant. Prices are what you might expect for an independent family farm. I recommend trying their Profrock cheese and the Bluebird. Both very tasty.

Yelp
Delicious chocolate croissants! Perfectly flaky and chocolate with a dash of sea salt on top. Beautiful grounds too. Service was great!

Yelp
The Splendid Afternoon Cheese Tasting was the perfect way to spend an afternoon with our weekend guests. The garden setting was lovely and peaceful, the cheese was delicious, and the farm tour was really special. Love the cows!!! Our guide had lots of interesting tidbits of info. Don't forget to bring a bottle of wine to complete the experience.

Yelp
We were here twice during our visit, having learned our lesson the first time (Sunday) when we arrived just after 9:00 am to discover that almost all of their pastries were sold out. We ended up getting a boule and spent a mortgage payment on cheese--Prufrock and Eidolon, both incredible--and chorizo. You will fork over all your money for this stuff though since the quality is unassailable. Today, when we arrived 7 minutes after their opening, there were at least 30-40 people ahead of us but we still managed to snag some of the pastries that hadn't sold out. The 30 minute wait was worth it. The croissants are, we dare to say, as good as the ones that you can get in France or any other high end bakery in the states. The flaky salt atop the chocolate one was appreciated. We loved the savory garlic and herb scone with its perfect texture and balance of flavors. And while we also admired the buckwheat financier, it was so sticky that it was almost impossible to get out of the wrapper. The apply cream bun was OK--kinda like a donut with some crumble on top. There's a coffee stand nearby to make the wait bearable and some animals strolling around that kept our daughter entertained during the wait. The staff is very friendly and super patient, completely unfazed by the hordes ready to pounce. We have to say that even though it is TOP dollar here, we didn't mind shelling out the cash because everything really is that good. While we'd had their cheese on previous visits to the vineyard, this is now definitely going to be a "must stop" for us and we hope at some point to do the farm tour as well.

Yelp
Best dates we've tried in a while. Everything at the bakery is fresh and tastes good. It was a rainy day so the farm animals were taking a break as well.

Yelp
While the bread and pastries are amazing, I have found they don't keep their website up-to-date about products they offer on a given day. Given the bakery isn't close to town, this results in inconvenience and disappointment for customers. If you are visiting MV and the Grey Barn, don't be surprised if what's posted on their website isn't consistent with what's actually available - also, the cheese is overpriced and overrated. I raised this with the Grey Barn and wasn't even offered an apology - just that they "do the best they can." I don't think it's too much to ask for them to keep their offerings up-to-date!!

Yelp
Great cheese, great bread, great meats, great veggies... You get the idea. It's a tiny little farmstand on a pretty decent size farm in Martha's Vineyard- but we enjoyed just being out in nature and buying things fresh from the farm. We even went back twice because it was so good. Not to be missed!

Yelp
Great bread, go early (7am) for pastries before they sell out. Friendly staff who are so passionate about what they are doing. Can't wait to see what they do going forward! The beautiful property alone is totally worth the visit.

Yelp
Lovely, just absolutely lovely. Sprawling organic farm with exquisite farm stand featuring their own products. Especially enticing are the breads and cheeses. The seven spice bacon is to die for.
