The Most Fun Dinner Spots In Austin Right Now

"To those seeking a quiet, intimate spot to catch up over light bites: look elsewhere. To our knowledge, The Guest House is the only restaurant in Austin that employs a DJ seven nights a week. It’s not clubby inside, but it is lively. Cocktails arrive under smoked-filled cloches, tucked away in little bonsai trees, or in custom drinkware in the shape of little glass mushrooms. But it’s not all show at The Guest House. The spicy rigatoni has just the right amount of bite, parmesan-crusted filets are cooked to a perfect medium rare, and the free croissant-like loaf that starts the meal might be the best free bread in the city. Austin’s New Restaurant & Bar Openings

"Taking over the old Le Politique space Downtown, The Guest House offers mostly steaks, seafood, and cocktails in a Vegas-y space—there’s a DJ and neon lights, but also lots of plants and chandeliers. Some of the drinks come with a show (think dry ice and smoke-filled cloches), and the steak au poivre comes at “market price,” which is code for “this is probably going to hurt a little.” We visited Guest House and added it to our Fun Dinners guide. This establishment was truly remarkable. I was thoroughly delighted by the exquisite flavor of the food. The salad selection was particularly enjoyable. The cocktails were expertly crafted, and the wine selection was impressive. I highly recommend making a reservation. It was a wonderful celebration, enhanced by the fantastic service, delightful drinks, and delectable food. This has become my new favorite place.

I booked a table here for my birthday dinner on a Tuesday evening and was impressed by how smoothly everything flowed—we were seated immediately upon arrival. The atmosphere was vibrant and stylish, with a DJ adding to the lively, upscale energy. The food was solid overall: the Parmesan filet was the highlight—perfectly cooked and richly flavored, an easy 8.5/10. The spicy rigatoni was good but didn’t quite wow me (7/10), and the chicken was flavorful and well-executed (8/10). I wouldn’t recommend the GH chopped salad; some of the toppings were overly tough and distracted from the experience. A sweet surprise came at the end when they brought out a cookie ice cream sandwich for my birthday—a thoughtful gesture that made the evening feel extra special. Overall, it’s a chic spot with a great vibe, ideal for celebrating a special occasion.

Dining at The Guest House in Austin was nothing short of an elite experience. From the moment we stepped in, the modern and refined ambiance set the tone for what would become one of the most memorable meals I’ve had anywhere. And I’ve experience fine dining on each continent over the years. Our server delivered service at the absolute highest level—attentive, intuitive, and genuinely invested in understanding the preferences and needs of everyone at the table. It was the kind of hospitality that elevates a great meal into an exceptional one. As for the food: simply breathtaking. Every dish was a work of art, plated with dramatic flair - yes, dry ice and all - and executed with precision. We started with the Wagyu beef appetizer, which set the bar sky-high. I ordered the salmon as my main, and it was otherworldly, perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and unlike any salmon preparation I’ve had before. The Guest House is the kind of place you reserve for a truly special occasion, but it delivers so thoroughly that you’ll find yourself looking for reasons to return. A masterclass in culinary execution, service, and ambiance. Highest recommendation.

14/10 My absolute favorite night out in Austin! Everything about The Guest House is perfection - the vibe is chic and effortlessly cool, everyone from the hostess to the servers to the managers were welcoming, friendly and very good at their job. Hawthar took great care of us and she was absolutely amazing - she had drink recommendations that were spot on and made sure the food came out seamlessly. The theatrical drinks (we did the Tulgey Woods and Magic Mushroom) were so much fun and tasty. We ordered two specials for the first course, scallops and a king crab and lobster roll and they were incredible and the warm lobster for the second course was cooked to perfection. We ordered the veal, red snapper and cacio e pepe for the mains and we could not choose a favorite, the flavors were phenomenal, beautiful presentation and they were happy to box up our leftovers to take home. Thank you so much to everyone at The Guest House for making our evening celebrating all the events we’re going to miss so special, especially Hawthar and James, we cannot express how much we appreciate it. This evening was an exceptional dining experience and will absolutely be back!

Google
Amanda was amazing and dishes came out all at once per set and very attentive. Ambience was perfect - modern/ clean. Food/ menu was good, but not memorable. Chopped Kale salad to start was excellent, chicken tenders were good, salmon was ok, steak was cooked perfectly. Would recommend skipping the tuna cone with caviar for $10 each. Some people in our party would probably give it 5 stars, but it’s all depending on your palate and preference.

The Guest House Austin offers a refined dining experience in a lively, social atmosphere, complemented by timeless decor. The space features beautiful chandeliers, elegant tables, and a classic ambiance. Several private seating areas are available if you prefer a more intimate dining experience. The restaurant is known for its theatrical drinks and bar, making for a memorable moment. The menu offers elevated takes on classic comfort food. Among my favorites were the chopped kale salad, spicy rigatoni, and lemon cheesecake—each standing out as a highlight of the evening. Our server, Shelby, was both knowledgeable and personable, providing attentive service throughout our meal. It's a perfect spot for date nights, special occasions, or a fun social outing!

Google
Had the most amazing birthday dinner for my sister at the Guest House! Our water Shelby was the sweetest and was very attentive the entire meal. Everything was delicious but my highlight was definitely the Spicy Rigatoni!

Google
Went for a nice Saturday night dinner with my friends. We were all pleasantly surprised by the delicious variation of food. The service was excellent. Our waitress, Shelby, was so sweet and helpful. The ambience in the bar area was lively but not overwhelming. The theatrical drinks were so fun! We will definitely be back.

Yelp
The setting, the vibe, the menu...perfection. Definitely an Instagram-worthy spot for a date night/GNO in Austin. Really enjoyed the bread, rigatoni, chopped salad, roasted sweet potato (so good!), the amaziiing 100-layer cake, and the Alice in Wonderland-themed drinks (I had the Looking Glass Martini;)!

Yelp
I had the pleasure of dining with Ms. Karleigh this month, and I can't praise her enough for her expertise with the menu and her exceptional guidance throughout my meal. As a first-time guest eager to sample a variety of dishes, she expertly curated an unforgettable dining experience for me. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
Guest House always hits. The service is great and the ambiance this restaurant has is one of the best in Austin. I've been multiple times but this time we got family style with a big group and I tried so many different things. Drinks: The Duchess with Mezcal: 5/5 Tea Party: 4/5 Everyone said it tasted like blue Kool-aid Tulgey Woods: 10/5 Loved the presentation Food: Steak Tartare: 5/5 Buttermilk Chicken Tenders: 10/5 Spicy Rigatoni: 100/5 Delicious and spicyy. My favorite go to dish. Heirloom Apple & Endive: 100/5 I was so shocked how good this was. Definitely something I would've never ordered but I definitely will in the future now. Parmesan Truffle Fries: 10/5 Addicting! Can't just have one. Asparagus w Parmesan: 5/5 Seared Faroe Island Salmon: 5/5 Organic Chicken a la Raj: 5/5 Basically chicken parm with a pesto sauce bed. Dessert: -The s'mores ice cream dessert was actually insane!! Comes with ice cream, marshmallows, chocolate brownie chunks, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, salted caramel sauce, and chocolate cigarettes with some kind of rum they light on fire and pour on top. If you're hesitant about picking a dessert, pick this one. -The 100 layer cake with chocolate espresso cake, peanut butter mousse, and hazelnut cream was also to die for, but the s'mores ice cream was way better.

Yelp
Been curious about this place since they opened up but waited on trying to come when a reservation wasn't super hard to come by. Came here with the girls last night and it's giving off a very upscale restaurant. You step in and instantly transported to a swanky lounge, reminds me of a 70s movie set for what a chic bar looks like in the old time movies. There are modern chandeliers dangling from the ceilings and all the booths appear to be in some type of velvet material. Enough of the decor you're really here for the food review! We ordered a variety of items from the starter menu and shared everything. The hamachi crudo, spicy rigatoni, and the forest mushroom pizza. Personally the best starter of those 3 was the forest mushroom pizza, the bacon is more substantial then we thought it would be and our friend that didn't love mushrooms even loved the pizza! The hamachi crudo had really good flavors but to me felt like it was trying to be a Thai dish and was lacking that umami flavor. The spicy rigatoni I felt was overhyped and just good but nothing spectacular. Lastly we ordered a kale Ceasar salad with salmon and I was underwhelmed when it comes to Caesar salads it was good but lacked texture. I almost forgot to mention their infamous bread that is complimentary and everyone talks about was fantastic! I'd come back for the bread alone, crispy and flaky like a croissant but it's brioche! Lastly the star of the show had to be the neopolitan cheesecake, best desert we've had this year! You get chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla all with a gooey filling inside. We liked the vibes but think the music got louder as the night went on. I'll be back to try more food and drinks soon!

Yelp
Pseudo highbrow ambiance, with super high prices for mega mediocre food. The best thing on the menu that we had was the chicken strips...and it's hard for me to not like some tendies. This place is perfect for influencers. Definitely get the $40 cotton candy smokey tree you Basic B. Will definitely come back for the comedic laughs produced by the people watching.

Yelp
Miami nights in Austin The first thing you notice when you enter The Guest House is the club like loungey vibes. Low lighting. uptempo music, young hip staff. You feel transported to Miami (in a good way) Our friendly server Lindsie greeted us promptly and talked us through some favorites on their fun cocktail list. My girlfriend and I decided to try the magic mushroom which is a tequila cocktail that tastes like the best slightly sweet and spicy concoction you've ever had. Her husband tried the spicy margarita which he said was delicious as well. Lindsie was very helpful walking us through the many selections of gluten-free items on the menu. They prefer you order all menu items upfront so they can parse out the courses. We decided to try the Hamachi Crudo, which comes in a delicious coconut based sauce with generous slices of fish, beautiful presentation in the bowl. we also tried the apple and endive salad, which was a very creative presentation with a surprisingly delicious mix of a lemon truffle vinaigrette. Super creative and delicious. For mains, I tried the divers scallops. Three huge dayboat scallops, perfectly seared served with caramelized corn and a parsnip purée that was like eating a cloud and every bite. my girlfriend wasn't too hungry, but she decided to try a special salad. They were serving, which was a beautiful dish of marinated melons with a bit of chili oil and herbs. She devoured every bite. Her husband tried the Faroe Island salmon which he thoroughly enjoyed and the portion was generous. they have an extensive wine list and the Sommelier helped us choose a Pinot Grigio and Sancerre that went perfectly with the seafood mains. Thank goodness, we saved room for dessert as they had 100 layer cake of the most delicious chocolate and peanut butter deliciousness I have ever had. Such a beautiful presentation and we actually could not even finish it between three people. Loved this dinner from start to finish. Bravo

Yelp
This place is dope. Overpriced, sure, but dope. I finally made it out here to try the steak tartar and the hamachi crudo and both were excellent. Even more excellent was the house bread they served. Bar scene was popping off and I was sad to not be drinking when I went in. Will have to come back in to grab a cocktail at some point.

Yelp
The Guest House has been all over my Instagram lately, so I had to see what the excitement was about! We were treated to a girls' night, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of magical. From the ambiance to the service, and especially the food and drinks, everything made the night feel truly special. We were thrilled to find plant-based/vegan options on the menu (the roasted sweet potato, apple & endive salad, spaghetti pomodoro, and asparagus with parmesan), making sure everyone could join in on the Guest House experience. The drinks lived up to the hype--seriously show-stopping! The flavor was just as impressive as the presentation. I opted for the Disappearing Act: a house rum blend with lime, passion fruit, fruit cart demerara, creole shrub, simple syrup, and cilantro. It was an absolute delight. And let's talk about the bread by @sourdoughchef (Instagram handle) --it was the best I've ever had. Guest House is perfect for drinks and dessert, but if you're looking to splurge or celebrate a special occasion, this is definitely the place to be!

Yelp
Went here with a friend for the first time. Food was very good, loved the vibe and music. Service was a tad slow but they did advise it they were backed up. Would definitely come back again.

Yelp
We finally made it out to try and it did not disappoint. They serve elevated New American cuisine, but what first caught my attention is their fancy laminated brioche. It's deliciously buttery, fluffy and has delicately thin layers. This is also complimentary (!!!) and a star part of the dinner. The Guest House is the destination for social dining, whether it be a date night, celebration, or any reason to socialize. The uplifting energy, animated cocktails, and live DJ will set the mood for a lively night. Located in downtown Austin, TX. - brioche fuitelle - Tulgey Woods 45 - Tea Party 40 - spicy rigatoni 26 - chopped kale caesar 16 - butter milk chicken tenders 17 - parmesan truffle fries 16 - butchers local cut - steak au poivre MP - seared faroe island salmon 34

Yelp
Guest House offers guests with an opportunity to immerse themselves in an exclusive experience that you will not really find elsewhere. Celebrities, themselves, find their way here...but you don't have to have to be a celebrity to feel like you've walked into a VIP spot. Drinks and foods are served artistically, with some such as the Looking Glass Martini and Tulgey Woods having a "theatrical" presentation. Fun, for sure! The Spicy Rigatoni was tasty, with a creamy texture and surprising bite of spice. The Forest Mushroom Pizza, served thin crust has a burst of crispy bacon, truffle and balsamic, pairing well with the rigatoni. Would not recommend the burger, however. Served on brioche, added to the dryness of the patty. Overall, a fun experience, but I and our guests agreed that you're paying more for the ambiance and "show"; not quite the food. It's clear a lot of attention is paid to the details - fine glassware, sturdy plate ware, decorative touches (culinary florals, props, etc). There's no doubt that this place, environmentally and culinary, is pretty. Appropriate for a girl's night, and some fun photos and videos.

Yelp
I know this place deserves 5 stars but I've only been once so... I have no doubt they will go above and beyond to make sure you have a great experience. The decor is beautiful, the bar is fully stocked and their signature Alice in Wonderland cocktails did not disappoint. The crudo was superb- nothing we had was mediocre. Even the basic fries seemed to taste better- the truffles for sure! The pasta was yummy and spicy! We dined on the patio which will say needs fans! It was way too hot that night to not have air circulating! Staff was helpful and well informed on their recommendations- and attentive. Great experience and highly recommended!

Yelp
This place is the definition of ambiance. Absolutely loved the dj, food, and service here. Jordan was our waitress and she was so attentive to detail especially given our allergies. Very great energy and so helpful! I would absolutely love to come here again!

Yelp
I came here to celebrate my birthday, and it was a memorable experience from beginning to end. The place exudes a sexy and swanky vibe the moment you walk through the doors, with dim lighting and a DJ spinning tunes. While it's not a quiet restaurant, the music isn't overwhelming and you can still have a conversation without shouting. Now, let's get to the fun stuff: the food and drinks. Since it was a special occasion, I ordered the Tulgey Woods, which had a show-stopping presentation, and the drink was pretty good too. My only caveat is that I wish they provided a cocktail glass to pour the shots into, making it easier to drink. For dinner, I chose the scallops, which were cooked perfectly. Other great options we ordered to share included the spicy rigatoni and chicken tenders. The menu doesn't follow one specific theme, making it easy for everyone to find something they like. Although this place isn't cheap, it's definitely a great spot to celebrate any special occasion. I can't thank the staff enough for the great service, which made my special day even better.

Yelp
The Guest House is an absolute gem. If you are looking for a restaurant that is an elevated experience and will definitely impress any date or friends you dine with this is the place! The ambiance is undeniably sexy, with its sultry lighting and intimate setting that sets the perfect mood. Our server Sarah Lucia was nothing short of amazing, with impeccable attention to detail and recommendations. She was down to earth and so sweet and even brought us some complimentary champagne when I mentioned me and my partner were celebrating our anniversary. The food was an absolute 10/10! The crudo was fresh and vibrant, and I would say hands down the best crudo in Austin. The spicy rigatoni was a flavor explosion, perfectly balanced and delightfully satisfying. To top it off, the mesmerizing drink we had called the Tulgey woods was a true masterpiece and beautiful in every aspect. I definitely recommend getting at least one of there theatrical drinks off the menu for the full experience. All and all the Guest House is a must-visit for an unforgettable dining experience from the servers to management's attention to detail and service we can't wait to come back soon(:

Yelp
Wow! The vibes, the food, the service, just amazing! Went for a girls night out and absolutely loved it. Not only was each dish so flavorful but the way the drinks and food were presented felt like something out of a fairytale!! Will definitely be back

Yelp
I've been wanting to try the Guest House ever since they opened and I finally had an opportunity on a Tuesday night for dinner. The restaurant was somewhat crowded for a weeknight, but there were plenty of open tables. The interior here is super pretty. The lighting is perfectly dim for a date night and they have chandeliers everywhere. If you're looking to dress up, this is definitely a good option. I've seen their theatrical cocktails all over social media, so I was super excited to try the Tulgey Woods. The cocktail arrived portioned into four small corked bottles, which made it easy to share. The presentation was really cool! The tree is made of cotton candy so it all felt very playful and whimsical. Service overall was a little strange. Our server was friendly enough, but they also emphasized that we had to order everything at once or else they wouldn't be able to course it out for us properly. I totally understand that idea, but all of our food arrived at basically the same time anyway, so I'm not sure what the point of that was. Normally I wouldn't complain about the timing of the food since I'm a slow eater, but our table was super tiny and there wasn't nearly enough space for all of the dishes to fit. We ate: - Complimentary bread (5/5): I'm obsessed with croissants so I looooved the flakiness of this bread. I'm not sure I would agree with people who say it's the best bread in Austin, but it might be the best complimentary bread I've had here! - Spicy Rigatoni (5/5): This was tasty! It's honestly enough pasta to be eaten as a main dish even though it's on the starters menu. - Seared Diver Scallops (4/5): The scallops were cooked well and went well with the parsnip puree. I did feel like the dish was pretty sweet overall but I still enjoyed it. - Free Range Berkshire Pork Chop (2/5): This was super disappointing. The cook on the pork chop was super uneven, one side was basically rare and the other side was overcooked, dry, and chewy. The lentils and apple butter were tasty accompaniments but couldn't make up for the pork chop. Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere of this place but the food wasn't anything mind-blowing to me. I would come back for more drinks and the vibes, but probably not for dinner again.
google avatar

Kristin S.

Yelp
While the ambiance was nice, the temperature at the restaurant when we went was pretty hot. Not sure if the AC wasn't working well or if that's just how it always is. You get a flaky bread for the table which was yummy but I wish it came with butter instead of oil. Drink: Hightopp Sour was a play on the whiskey sour and really enjoyed it. Appetizer: Spicy Rigatoni was sooo flavorful and not that spicy if you are fan of rigatoni but not of spicy food. Highly recommend! Entree: Seared Diver Scallops were delicious! Perfectly cooked and the ají Amarillo, corn, and sauce was a perfect combination!

Yelp
Through the blaring EDM music, we could barely converse with each other or the server. The place was crowded but still had room without a wait. We started with a cocktail so decided to share the Looking Glass Martini. The Theatrical presentation was amazing! Glass fishbowl filled with ice and adorned with decorative flowers. The server poured a hibiscus rose potion over which transformed into a dreamy fog. The olive oil washed vodka with shimmery gold swirled in our glasses. A dreamily tasty cocktail. The complimentary bread starter was crispy, light and flaky deliciousness. We started with the Roasted Sweet Potato...so good. I ordered the Seared Faroe Island Salmon and my date ordered the Forest Mushroom Pizza without the bacon. I typically refrain from ordering fish dining out (usually overcooked). When my meal arrived the salmon was indeed overcooked. The server had the kitchen replace my order. This time it was cold in the center. Could have almost passed for sushi. The manager asked if there was anything else I would like so I ordered the Seared Diver Scallops as a replacement. The scallops were cooked to perfection although I didn't care for the aji amarillo sauce. We successfully made it through the meal and were offered a complimentary dessert. Great customer service! We will come back to try again.

Our server Toni was awesome! He did an excellent job accommodating our allergies. My drink was delicious and the food was filling and flavorful. I had the scallops and creamed spinach.

Yelp
I loved it! Parking: no; it's DT so there's a parking garage across the street or street parking. Uber is best Vibe: upscale lounge Drinks: great cocktails, leaning toward sweet. I love the "experience" ones- highly suggested Food: Nuggets were a surprise- the meat eaters around me loved them. Funny to have them here. Raw habachi was delicious - definitely a re-order Service - friendly and attentive Music - towards the end of the night it feels more of a bougie predrink spot. Louder upbeat music and positive vibe. Would def return!

Yelp
There is nothing like going to fine dining but able to just walk in and sit down on a beautiful afternoon in the patio. We had a great time celebrating Erica for her birthday.

Yelp
Great drinks, great service. On the pricier side, I would recommend just ordering one of theatrical cocktails ( you can only order one at a time). The magic mushroom by far was my favorite to drink. I also had ordered the bandersnatch which was too sweet and just tasted like juice but the servers removed it from our tab since I didn't even touch it and was able to order another drink instead. Loved the brioche bread- so buttery and so good we had to ask for another round. We ordered a bunch of different plates all which were very good: hamachi crudo, Parmesan crusted truffle filet, Moroccan beets, and steak tartare. Parking can be hard to find but I was able to find parking in front of Trader Joe's and just walked over. Definitely a must visit if you're in Austin but be ready to pay a price!

Yelp
The restaurant itself is gorgeous and I loved the vibe in there. It feels very swanky and they have a DJ as well. Our server was friendly and helpful with the menu. I'd give the ambiance and service 5 stars. However, the food and some other situations I observed during my dining experience were not good. As soon as my partner and I sat down, we watched a server scratch her head and play around with her hair with her bare hands, then start shaping cotton candy on a dish. She rubbed her hands on her jeans a couple of times and touched her head again, while still shaping the cotton candy. We then watched her walk the dish over to a group of girls at a table. At first, my partner and I didn't know if the cotton candy was real/supposed to be eaten but, then we saw the girls start taking bites out of it. It was so nasty to know that the server had been running her hands through her hair and so many other surfaces all while touching and shaping the cotton candy. This wasn't the best start to the dining experience and we just hoped that the other wait staff weren't going to be touching our food in unsanitary ways. The starter bread was delicious. Super flaky, buttery, and croissant-like. We ordered the following: Coastal oysters: 1/5 Each oyster got worse in taste. My partner and I each had a really disgusting oyster that tasted like actual shit. We could tell that they weren't fresh and had gone bad. Yukon potato puree: 4/5 These potatoes were pretty standard and hit our expectations taste wise. However, for $14, we expected the dish to be slightly bigger. 40 day dry aged ribeye: 1/5 This ribeye was the biggest disappointment as we were most excited for it. It was also priced at $145. At first glance, the ribeye looked good and was cooked to our liking (medium rare). However, there was no flavor. The menu description listed smoke butter on the steak which you'd think would lend to some flavor. The menu also mentioned glazed carrots and maitake to accompany the dish. However, as you'll see in my pictures and videos, there was no glaze whatsoever on the carrots. We got 4 small boiled carrots, none of which had flavor. The food was unenjoyable and we just wanted to get out of there because everything was either flavorless or plain bad. This was not a good experience and we left it as an expensive lesson. I do hope that the server gets retrained on sanitary food practices. She had long hair, a sun (circle with lines coming out all around, assuming sun) tattoo on the back of her right arm. I wouldn't recommend coming her unless you just want to get some drinks and enjoy the ambiance. Don't eat here.

Yelp
My husband and I visited the guest house a few weeks after it opened, and we truly felt like guests of honor. This is the perfect place to dress up, celebrate a milestone, and indulge in a fantastic meal. We arrived a little early for our reservation, so while our table was being prepared, we enjoyed a cocktail at the bar. Although we had to flag down a bartender after waiting for about 5-10 minutes due to their chatting, we didn't let this small hiccup spoil our visit. Once our table was ready, we closed out our tab and proceeded to our spot on the far left side of the restaurant, which offered a great view of the entire place. Although we had reviewed the menu beforehand, our waitress Lauren kindly walked us through it and suggested some of her favorites. We started our drinks with the whimsical Tea Party cocktail, which was both theatrical and delicious. For appetizers, we had the Spicy Rigatoni, Ossetra Caviar Toast, and Hamachi Crudo, accompanied by complimentary brioche feuilletée with olive oil. Each dish was five-star delicious. The croissant bread, crafted by their own bread chef, was the best I've ever had--and I've enjoyed great bread all over the USA. For our main course, we shared the Parmesan Truffle Crusted Filet, which was cooked to perfection. To finish off the meal, we indulged in GH Espresso Martinis and a decadent chocolate raspberry dessert, leaving us full to the brim but totally satisfied. Overall, our experience was outstanding, and we can't wait to return. The ambiance was fun and lively, with an in-house DJ playing a variety of tunes from different genres. Valet parking is conveniently available across the street from North Italia. Treat yourself to a wonderful evening and enjoy!

Yelp
Was excited to try this place and very underwhelmed! The ambiance upon walking in is beautiful - I will give them that! Decor is pristine, feels like a modern upscale club/bar almost. That said, they were playing club/dj music which didn't quite fit the bill for me, felt out of place. Ordered several cocktails all of which were very sweet. Good don't get me wrong just felt like a headache waiting to happen. The food is where it gets disappointing! All portions were shockingly small, flavors were delicious but my boyfriend had to order some appetizers and a dessert to feel full (maybe that's their play). The desserts were oddly huge in comparison to the meals. Ordered a few because we thought they would be comparable in size. Though service was great I have to say the music and the high price for extremely small volumes of food wasn't worth it to me.

Yelp
Natalie was our server and she made the experience exceptional! We had the best birthday dinner for our friend and loved the vibe. Everything was perfect from the DJ to the theatrical drink displays to our service. I live in San Antonio but I would happily drive here for a nice dinner. This is the perfect spot for a girls night out or romantic dinner. The food is incredible as well!

Yelp
Swanky spot downtown that would be good for a fancy date night or even a bachelorette party. They served new American food such as bbq sliders, filet mignon, rigatoni, truffle fries, and some of it was on the heavier, saltier side-- but my favorite thing was the croissant bread they brought at the top of the meal I think there are a few spots in Austin that are more focused on the food and others more focused on the ambience, and I'd say The Guest House focuses more on cultivating that luxurious ambience/dining experience, and that stood out to me more, while the food was decent but not as much stood out to me about it in particular

Yelp
Fancy new spot that took over the La Politique space. It looks very similar to the old space but darker and more glam. The theatrical cocktails are fun for pics but taste terrible. Def not worth the price to me. The regular cocktails are good. It's not as pricey on food as I was expecting. You can't be seated without your full party, which annoys me when places do that. We got told we couldn't sit with 3/4 of our group and were made to wait for 20 mins. Then when we sat down, told we had to leave by a certain time bc of another res ... our servers did not take our order all at once so it felt pointless. Things we tried: - the croissant bread (free) - delish and very buttery - spicy rigatoni - delish - sliders - pork belly and pretty good - endive apple salad - creative and interesting take - scallops - not my favorite but very good

Yelp
I would give TGH a solid 3.5. In some areas they excel but in others fell short. VIBES (5/5) -- The guest house gives you a place to dress up and enjoy a vibey, boujie dining experience with a great DJ and gorgeous ambiance. We went on a random Monday and it was popping! If you're looking for a maximalist night out or place to celebrate an occasion, the vibes here are on point. There are not too many spots like this in Austin so it def fills a void (felt more Dallas-y!) FOOD & DRINK (3.5/5) -- I'm torn here because some things were GREAT like the complimentary bread (wow), pastry-washed espresso martini, sticky toffee bread pudding. Clearly the pastry chef is amazing! We also loved some of the seafood options we ordered like the oysters and scallops. However, other entrees felt very average and hard to justify at the price point. Theatrical drinks are fun especially for a celebratory dinner -- but you're paying for the show! SERVICE (3/5) -- this could use the most work as it makes or breaks what could have been a good experience. While service was decent when we dined, it wasn't great, and we did have to chase down our waitress a few times. Don't be in a rush and expect the meal to take 2-3 hours after being seated. For any mishaps we had, I have to say the manager was super kind & accommodating. However, it seems slow service is a common theme. A few friends had worse service experience and longer wait times, so reservation management & attentiveness needs improvement stat Overall, great ambiance & vibes, some delicious food/drink options. Downsides, some menu items are a miss and service needs work

Yelp
Honestly, in my opinion, this place is very overrated and overpriced. Now for the good, the bag, and the ugly. Ambiance- 4.5 stars. Very elegant but modern. Dimly lit and romantic. DJ music is too loud for environment, especially at 7pm. Service - 5 stars. Our service was friendly, knowledgeable and on top of everything. I wish I could remember her name. Food - 2.5. This is really sad. If only the food would measure up to the ambience and service. The east coast oysters, from Virginia the night we dined, were good. The non-traditional cocktail-chile sauce was decent but the mignonette was overpowered by sharp shallots, which I usually love, but this was at a whole new level. Expensive also at $28 for 6. The spicy rigatoni starter (not entree) was delicious. I really couldn't taste any spice, but the flavor was very good and the pasta, perfectly al dente. It was high priced for what amounted to a handful of pasta for $26 though. The charred Moroccan beet salad was good. No complaints except for the high price of $22 for a few tiny cubes/bites (4 I believe) of beets in yogurt sauce. Now for the worst part. The pork chop came out rare. I don't mean, medium or pink. It was red and the texture had not changed. We showed it to the server and she wholeheartedly agreed and took it back to the kitchen. When she returned, she said that the female chef who had prepared it argued that it was medium and yelled at her. Not my words, the server's. We were told the chef would make us another one that would be well done. I said no thank you as I do not like my pork well done. I decided to move onto another entrée because I felt I would not get the cook I wanted on the pork chop in light of what I had been told. I wish that I had gotten a picture of the pork chop, but the staff descended on our table so quickly when they saw we had a problem and they promptly took it away. I proceeded to order the scallops. They smelled extremely fishy when coming to the table. Unfortunately, they were undercooked and translucent as could be underneath the lightly seared top and bottom. The texture made it difficult to eat. I like scallop sashimi, but this was not it. At this point, I did not say anything. They too were expensive at $35 for 3. In opposition to other reviews, these scallops were not large. Also, the corn on the plate was supposed to be caramelized, and it was not in any way shape or form. The parsnip purée was very bland and was not traditional texture. It seemed like it had been aerated. It was odd and not pleasing to me. Overall, the taste and flavors of the dish were just meh. Now for a highlight. The server insisted on bringing out another pork entrée for no charge even though we said we would pass and order new entrées. She did proceeded to send out another pork chop, and it was cooked fantastically, perfect medium. The flavors were also very good, especially in comparison to the scallop dish. Everything on the plate worked together so well. Oh, I almost forgot, the complementary bread is fantastic. It is very rich and buttery. The bottle of wine we had was good. The wine list for cabs is very expensive though. I believe the lowest price bottle started at $80 and went up very sharply from there. If the food measured up to everything else, the prices would seem more reasonable, albeit, still expensive but this is trying to be true fine dining. I doubt seriously we will ever go here again. There are too many places that are true fine dining, whose prices are expensive, as expected, but more reasonable and the food SO much better.

Yelp
If you go to this restaurant, I hope you get to be served by Natalie ,She gave A+ reviews. She's a true of hitting me of what great customer service is even though the ambience was so busy she took the time to speak to us was patient was nice and was so sweet and explaining each dish the place is a little bit loud at night, but she took time to explain to us and help us understand it, if her boss Reed, please promote her. She is doing an amazing job and this is what True restaurant has hospitality about.

Yelp
I am always slightly skeptical of Instagram heavy restaurants but sometimes they actually do live up to the hype - as is the case for GH. We did make an early reservation and I believe that at least for the short term future you will want to make one in order to secure a spot. We were greeted by 4 hostesses who quickly took us to our table. No time passed and we were ordering our drinks (they have a fun cocktail menu and apparently a prolific wine menu). The Instagram cocktails are pricey and while we didn't order any of those, the tables next to us did, and they were very fun to watch (can't say how they tasted). We opted for the GH espresso martini and their take on an old fashion. The Espresso martini was top notch - very creamy and rich. The old fashioned was also tasty and lived up to its "spirit forward" description. We opted to share a few appetizers - the table bread was BOMB. Rich, buttery and flakey. We could have eaten multiple offerings but they did only serve one per two people (I'm sure my stomach will thank me for this but greedily I did want more). We shared the steak tartare (amazing - perfect to split between two and very rich and garlic heavy). We also enjoyed the spicy rigatoni appetizer (delish and perfectly portioned for two or for one as a main). We had the bbq sliders as well - not as good as the other two. The meat on the slider was sparse but I did enjoy using the bun to soak up the rigatoni sauce. We also ordered some garlic parm fries - these were perfect but we decided they were not needed as the bread and three appetizers left us comfortably full. We couldn't pass up sharing a dessert so we split the sticky toffee pudding. It was BEYOND delicious. Dense sponge cake smothered in a decadent caramel sauce with espresso whipped cream and a dollop of vanilla ice cream (and sure some blackberry halves for good measure). We were able to use the inKind app for $50 off the bill (total had to be over $150 but included drinks and food - an easy amount to hit as the prices here are not cheap but in line with what I'd expect for a downtown austin hot spot). I would highly recommend leveraging the app deal it helps pay for at least some of the bill for no extra cost/bother beyond downloading and app. Parking is not validated which is a bummer so park wherever you can - there is a parking garage near by. Overall this place meets expectations. The vibes, bites and sips are immaculate. The only slight turn off was that when I made the reservation it said any parties of 5 or less had a table limit of 90 minutes. This kind of bummed me out because when you're spending this kind of cash you shouldn't feel rushed - granted we never felt rushed but the reservation putting this limit out there was not it IMO. Definitely check this place out for the insta worthy hype that delivers on taste and quality.

Yelp
Had a great time at the guest house for our 3 year anniversary. There was amazing service, great ambiance, and the food was delightful. They even brought us out processo and a cake to congratulate us on our anniversary. 10/10 would recommend for a special occasion.

Yelp
I had such a lovely and fun time here with my girlfriends. It's such a beautiful restaurant, and its aesthetics honestly match those of NYC restaurants'. I can't get over the lighting and the intimate ambience of Guest House. I will warn you and say that it's a little bit difficult to find because the entrance is a dark door, so my friends got lost. We had a reservation for a weekday evening, and even then, it was incredibly packed and busy. We ordered a TON of stuff, so I can say that we definitely got the full experience here. This was an excellent restaurant with amazing staff. Our waitress was SO friendly and sweet during our 2.5 hour meal, and as soon as we were done with plates, other members of staff would immediately clear plates and glasses away. I will say that their timing is a little bit off because there were times when I felt rushed to finish a plate or plates and silverware would already be cleared before we were done with them. Overall, absolutely zero complaints and you can tell the staff is well-versed in the menu and can speak to each item. We ordered two theatrical drinks, and it is unfortunate that their cotton candy machine was broken when we visited. I appreciate that they're not willing to serve us the theatrical drink if a major component isn't there, and they want to upkeep their image. We opted for two others instead, and the teacup one was SO cute and pretty. I would avoid the mushroom one--this was a little bit too bitter and rancid for my liking, but I think my friends enjoyed it. Food was awesome. We loved the spicy vodka pasta, and the mashed potatoes were SO yummy. Lots of butter and really well whipped/mashed. I also really enjoyed the steak and scallops. Steak was cooked to perfection, and scallops with the corn were marvelous. This is definitely a pricey restaurant, but for a date or an anniversary or a night out with girlfriends... you're going to have an amazing time. They have their own in-house DJ. I'm in love, and I highly recommend you visit as well!!

Yelp
Just went back. Service was a bit better this time and the music wasn't as loud but was still def loud. No mistaken items on the menu. They only let you pick one theatrical drink for the night so we went with the magic mushroom since they didn't have the other one we wanted. Food: Tartare - very good; not as delicious as the first time I had it Spicy rigatoni - very good; the first time was better but this is on par with the Carbone rigatoni Scallops - very good Endive and apple salad with shaved Parmesan - delicious Caviar toast - ok Hamachi crudo - delicious Spaghetti pomodoro - bland Salmon - very good; wish it was slightly less cooked Bananas foster - delicious with the butter cake Forest dessert - ok

Yelp
If you're in for a night full of amazing food, classy vibes, and high quality service, you absolutely need to check out The Guest House Austin. This higher dining truly is an experience! You look around and each table is immersed in a different menu item. With that, the cost is pretty penny but well worth it in my opinion. If you're like me, constantly in search of "Instagram worthy" restaurants...you're welcome Highly recommended for a special night out!

Yelp
I had a great time here, I loved the vibe of the restaurant with the DJ. It was very lively while still maintaining a nice atmosphere that didn't feel clubby. Our waitress was really nice and attentive. I ordered the French Onion burger which came with fries and had the option to make them truffle. The burger itself was not good - the bun was very buttery (almost greasy), the meat was very unseasoned, the cheese smelled super intensely and didn't taste good either. It was just not a good burger, in my opinion. The fries, however, were delicious. I let the waitress know that I did not like the burger and requested the Rigatoni instead. That was a very good pasta dish and definitely redeemed the experience. Overall, 8/10 - would definitely come here for the appetizers and drinks.

Yelp
Finally got to come check out Guest House after hearing so many great reviews! The ambiance is perfect for a date night or fun group dinner with friends. The music and lighting really set the vibe. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. You are welcomed with some lovely bread that is beyond scrumptious. We both then shared the following: Spicy Rigatoni - The sauce had good flavor, but a little on the light side we needed to request extra sauce. I like my pasta saucy! Steak Tartare - The steak tasted fresh, but keep in mind it is a bit heavy on the bread side. Seared Diver Scallops - The scallops were large and paired exceptionally well with the sides it's served with. I devoured this entire plate. Free Range Berkshire Pork Chop - The pork chop is packed with flavor and the sides make it. Pretty decent portion as well. Between the two of us this was the perfect amount of food. We couldn't even finish all of the pasta or pork chop. I would definitely come back and order the same large plates, but switch up the starters.

Yelp
i've been here three times now and the service is professional, music is always great for the night and sets the mood. my favorite drink here is the magic mushroom, it tastes very fresh and it will definitely hit you. This just feels like a fancy, classy spot to go to. perfect for a date night or girls night out. great spot to hit before a night out.

Yelp
First time at The Guesthouse for my birthday! Heard about it on TikTok and wanted to check out it! Overall, very welcoming and aesthetic space. Went at 6 on a Tuesday and it got pretty busy throughout the night. Definitely make reservations days in advance for bigger groups. The wait time for food was a bit long (I think they were trying to get the food out together). But they give you a nice bread and always keep your water glass full while you wait. I called in advance about bringing in a cake. They were able to put it away in the fridge for me. They do charge an additional $25 if you have them cut the cake for you (I cut my own). The food was good. Smaller portions, but they do have side options you can add to your meal.

Yelp
Food: I ate entirely too much and forgot to snag a picture of one of our courses so you know it's good! The bread they start you out with is so crunchy, yet soft, I'd go back just for that. My favorite dishes overall were the kale Caesar, chicken tenders, and spicy rigatoni. Drinks: The cocktail menu has a ton of good options, it was hard to choose. My favorite was the tea party. Not only is it an experience with beautiful presentation, but it's also super good and shareable. Service: Everyone working at The Guest House was very welcoming and personable. Our waiter was great and super attentive. You should expect to have a longer dinner than usual as some things took a little to come out but they did a good job of keeping us updated. Ambiance: The Guest House is a beautiful restaurant. I sat on the patio for an 8pm reservation. The patio was well-lit with fairy lights to add to the vibe and enclosed nicely so you didn't feel like you were in the middle of downtown. It's definitely on the louder side but nothing unmanageable. They even had a DJ, so the music was well-curated. Parking: No dedicated parking. I suggest taking a ride share or parking in one of the garages near by!

Yelp
The Guest House offers very good food, and I highly recommend the spicy rigatoni and the burger. While the scallops were a bit small for the price, they were still tasty. The ambiance is very nice, but we were seated at a table near the bar, which was very crowded, and I had people bumping into me all night. The tables were also quite close together. Despite this, the service was good, and I would return, but next time I'll make sure to get a table farther away from the bar.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate a birthday for my sister. This place is a relatively dim restaurant/bar/social club with a live DJ playing the 2000s hits such as Bobby Valentino and heartbreak Drake. But let's focus on the food! Most of the food was really good. The brioche bread was delicious and pretty much the reason I wanted to go here. The rigatoni is interesting to have as a starter and had a manageable kick. But the steak tartare was the best thing to get as an appetizer. It sits on a bed of... bread? It looked crunchier than it was, but was relatively soft and buttery. One of the best tartares I've had for sure. The hamachi crudo was also one of the best I've had, but the steak tartare was just out of this world. As for the main courses, both the salmon and chicken are good, but I would say that the chicken a la raj inched a bit higher on my list than the salmon. The sides were good, especially the mushrooms, but the creamy spinach tasted so bitter and.... Off. We were all so excited for it and wanted more veggies but it tasted so bad that we hardly dented it. I indulged in many of the drinks, and although fun and theatrical, they were just.... Ok? They all err on the sweet side a little too much, other than the passion fruit shots under the cotton candy tree. The entire thing INCLUDING the drink was almost sickeningly sweet. Definitely don't have this until near the end of the meal. The mushroom drink with ashwagandha and the teapot was better. However, for the end of the meal, we had the banana foster. Although we watched the waitress try to cool off as much alcohol as possible while still pouring the flames over, one side was bearable while the other side of the banana foster tasted like kerosene. Definitely the worst thing I've had here, but mostly everything else was great! Overall I also spent about $375 for everything for my 3 person party. Not exactly that affordable, but some of the things here I would say are worth it (steak tartare, hamachi crudo, mushroom side). It seems that they're still taking feedback, so my review could change the second time around. Overall I would still recommend, but avoid the dishes and drinks I negatively mentioned for a better experience.

Yelp
Prior to my visit, I had heard from various friends that the guest house is really cute, but the environment/"vibes" is what you are going for and not the food/drinks - not bad, but not great either. My experience matched these assessments. The ambiance and decor is beautiful, feeling up-scale and glamour without being too stuffy. It does feel a little out of place in Austin, reminding me more of Miami or NYC, but I do recognize the landscape is changing. The complimentary brioche they brought out was probably the most stand out thing I enjoyed and I wish I could have had more of. We also got the mushroom pizza, tartare, and for dessert, the beautiful chocolate raspberry dessert with a cotton candy cloud (not sure why, but they don't have a physical menu for dessert, just a verbal). These were all fine. Not bad, but very underwhelming, especially at the price points. Drink-wise, we got "through the looking glass" which is a theatrical drink for 2 to share. The bartender warned us it was very boozy, but we don't mind booze and the foodie in me was curious to try it. This is a prime example of when less is more. The presentation was beautiful, but (and I hate to say this) this was probably the worst drink I've ever had. It tasted like they threw everything from the bar into the drink and I'm honestly baffled that this is on the menu. We both were unable to stomach it and were very appreciative that the bartender offered to make us something else (which was better, but nothing different or memorable). All in all, this is a fun place to come once for the experience. Everything is very aesthetic (for this reason I gave a 4 and not a 3), but your tastebuds may not be satisfied and at these price points, there are much better places to go.

Yelp
Amazing service! Came in with the girlies and definitely had a lot of fun. We had to wait a while but they served us champagne while we waiting to be seated. Very good vibes, they had a live DJ that night we came in. Good ambiance. Great food, overall cool experience, especially with the shareable cocktail drink that served 4 people. 10/10

Yelp
The Guest House Austin is one of the most anticipated restaurant openings in Austin this year and I can see why! Get ready for a spectacular night of delicious cuisines and libations. After dinner, hangout at the bar and make the most of the night. Book your reservation now! You may want read all of this or you could just out the pictures of The Guest House Austin. I could write about all the dishes we tried but I'll just highlight a few, and you'll have to try them for yourself. The steak tartare bites on truffle toast- just get them; you're welcome. The Yukon potato purée as a side is so flavorful and the King Ranch steak was my favorite large plate. And you need to save room for dessert! And for drinks, you could order anything off the cocktail menu and won't be disappointed. There also is a robust wine selection. Nicole Chanrion is my recommendation, courtesy of the sommelier. Thanks for a wonderful evening The Guest House Austin. I will see you soon and can't wait to check out your Vegas location when it opens!!
