Gunton Arms

"This charming inn overlooks the 1,000 acre Gunton Estate deer park. Enjoy a tasty homemade snack over a game of pool or darts in the bar or make for a gnarled wood table by the fireplace in the flag-floored Elk Room. Dishes are fiercely seasonal; some – such as the Aberdeen Angus steaks – are cooked over the fire. Well-equipped bedrooms have a stylish country house feel." - Michelin Inspector

The Gunton Arms is set just within Gunton estate. There are deer roaming nearby on the estate. The pub itself is extensive inside and hosts an open fire where various meats are cooked. There is also plenty of seafood on the menu and a dedicated vegan/vegetarian menu if you request. There is also an extensive wine menu. Service was great and of course so was the food. All in all, very happy.

I had the pleasure of being invited to this restaurant, and it truly exceeded all expectations. The staff were warm and attentive. The food? Absolutely outstanding—each dish was delicious. The atmosphere was equally impressive: serene, magical, and the perfect backdrop for a relaxing escape. It’s one of those rare places where you can truly disconnect and savor every moment. A perfect 10 out of 10 on all fronts. Highly recommended!

We recently stayed at The Gunton Arms and celebrated our registry office wedding meal at the restaurant. The team was incredibly accommodating with our table booking (as our guest list kept changing!) which we really appreciated! The open bar and restaurant setup worked perfectly for us, allowing us to mingle with our family and friends in the bar before heading to a cozy nook behind the Elk Room, where we had two tables reserved. It was an intimate and cosy space for our celebration, and we had a fantastic time! The food and service were absolutely top-notch — truly 5-star. I have no hesitation recommending The Gunton Arms for any special occasion, whether it's a one-off lunch, a celebration, or simply a meal to unwind and enjoy life. We loved seeing the art around the house, being fans of Emin, Hirst and Gilbert and George we were in our element! We had an unforgettable experience and are so grateful to the team. It was such a unique and memorable way to celebrate our wedding with our closest friends and family, a low key celebration that suited us! We stayed overnight, and the hotel was lovely. It was clean, cozy, and felt like home. The bathroom was sleek and spotless, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The team were able to provide us a phone charger as we forgot ours, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome, showing us around the facilities before we checked in. Thank you again Gunton team, for making our day so special! We’ll be back!

We had a most satisfying dinner here. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and you dine near a huge fireplace where you can watch the chef prepare the meats. We enjoyed great drinks and a fun and friendly wait staff. Our salted beef was tender and tasty!

Visited for Sunday lunch. It’s an absolutely beautiful setting, large car park and you walk through an arch & gate into the grounds. ||The interior of The Gunton Arms is gorgeous, so cosy. We received a warm welcome and were taken straight to our table. ||Lots of menu choices; something for everyone. We chose roast chicken with all the bits, a sharing dish. The chicken was served on a spike, looked amazing with all the roasties & stuffing around it. Carrots, shredded cabbage and garlic bread sauce completed our mains. Oh my goodness; it was divine!||We followed this up with Bread & butter pudding & butterscotch ice cream for my husband and pistachio cheesecake with cherries for me, both were beautifully presented and were delicious!||The Gunton Arms is so good, a must visit, be sure to book because, understandably, it’s popular.||Special thanks to our Server Lily. Her approach was friendly & attentive. She made a lovely Anniversary meal so much better - thank you Lily.

Huge disappointment to find they don’t do the antler room grill on Sundays first visit in 5 years and came down from Scotland. Roast wasn’t on the same level as the regular menu. Room was as excellent as always. Lovely lodge highly recommended!

We stayed one night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, I would have liked to have given an excellent review but felt just a few things prevented that. Check in time is 4.00pm , which I thought was quite late, so we arrived shortly after and found the separate reception area closed and had to find someone in the main house to check in, we had a beautiful meal in the Elk room which we couldn’t fault, our bedroom was lovely but unfortunately you could only plug the kettle in on the floor, which I found very disappointing due to the cost of the room! Beautiful views across the deer park, our room was in the block outside and was a little noisy early morning due to deliveries .

Super service, outstanding roasts and beautiful rustic interiors set on superb grounds, the Gunton Arms surpassed all expectations. We were expecting a nice gastropub, but this was a beautiful manor in extensive grounds with deer resting in the distance in their fields. We were a walk in and had been told on the phone they were fully booked but to try our luck at the bar but thankfully the Head chef agreed to seat us on a sold out service on a large table at the back. We were thrilled as it was Sunday May Bank Holiday and always wanted to visit. The staff were so lovely and helpful in describing all of the specials but we opted for the Super Sunday Roast chicken sharing platter. Well, this was phenomenal! They carved the chicken at the table and it was presented beautifully on a silver tray and the sides on separate accompanying dishes. The chicken was moist, succulent and crispy skin with the best roast potatoes and stuffing balls. The savoy cabbage was local as were the array of heritage carrots and they brought us gravy and a roasted garlic bread sauce to go with it. It was huge and enough for 3! We opted to share a bread and butter pudding the waitress recommended as they only do it on on Sundays and we are still talking about how perfect it was and how they made it. A perfect meal in a perfect setting with phenomenal staff. Highly recommend. But book in advance to avoid disappointment! ❤️☺️

Yelp
From the drive in through an impressive entrance, to the beauty of the building, its decor and its art collection, this place is an absolute treat from start to finish. Great food from the kitchen - baked herbed scallops and brioche crab cakes were superb - to a very pleasant front of house team, this is a destination venue, so do yourself a favour, book a room and stay a while. The installation art nestled in the many acres of deer park will give you the opportunity to explore and burn off a few calories! And if it's chilly outside, open fires and a pool table offer the perfect setting to while away the hours, or simply muse over their magnificent art collection. Bravo The Gunton Arms

Yelp
Popped in for a cocktail and was impressed by the ultra cool decor. Kind of Downton Abbey meets Beetlejuice. It was around six p.m. and half of the dining tables were full. The bar was packed so I asked a waiter if we could down our cocktails at a table. His response: "We're fully booked tonight. The bar is as big as it is. We can't fit any more tables." Absolutely aghast, I finished my cocktail and went back to the car thinking how sad it was that I wouldn't be trying their menu. I would expect a snotty attitude from a thick glasses wearing hipster in New York, but I was surprised to find it in Norwich. Not recommended.

Yelp
Really nice pub in an amazing location. Considering it was reasonably busy for a Thursday lunch would definitely recommend booking in advance.

Yelp
This is a great pub / restaurant / bed & breakfast. Located just off the main road and inside a vast deer park, it's totally dog friendly, has a great atmosphere and, above all, does fantastic food. We had venison saugages w/mash & gravy and venison liver with cream & mustard sauce plus new potatoes. All perfect - and partially cooked on the open fire in the main room right in front of us. Plus a glass of super wine and some soft drinks = £40.50. Only hitch was somewhat shambolic service (it took 3 reminders to get the mineral water). Defo go there again.

Yelp
The smell walking up to this beautiful little inn is so enticing. You feel like you are entering a time past. Food is amazing and the fire pit in the dining room where they do the cooking is a lovely feature. Art is pretty exciting so keep your eyes pealed. Make a reservation if you want to eat there as it's usually booked up.
