"Now well into its second decade, The Gunton Arms is still an absolute joy to visit. There is an unerring simplicity to the place and an honesty to the hearty, gimmick-free and immensely flavourful cooking. Prime local meats – including from the 1,000-acre Gunton Estate deer park – form the backbone of the menu, cooked over fire in the flag-floored Elk Room, where you really feel like you're in on the action. While these cuts catch the eye, there's brilliant value to be found elsewhere on the menu, especially among offal and nose-to-tail dishes." - Michelin Inspector

Homely Restaurants

"Set within the lovingly restored 1,000 acre Gunton Estate—with its early 18th century deer park, ruins and a characterful pub—this is a place to graze and linger, whether over a tasty homemade snack and a game of pool or darts in the bar, or at a gnarled wood table by the fireplace in the flag-floored Elk Room. Dishes are fiercely seasonal and some—such as Aberdeen Angus steaks—are cooked over the fire, and well-equipped bedrooms have a stylish country house feel." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

We were holidaying in Norfolk and told to try this place and in the main it didn’t disappoint. In fact we went four times. The first time was for a Sunday lunch and we enjoyed every mouthful. The second visit we had steak, again very nice. The third my husband had the special, lobster which he said was amazing. Our last visit was for Sunday lunch again and although still the same quality the meat portion was a fair bit smaller which for the price I thought was disappointing. |We didn’t have any issues with the staff, everyone we dealt with was very nice and polite. For me a down point is the lighting in the small dog friendly dining room. If you were by the window, fine but anywhere else it was difficult to see your food properly. Then there is the artwork. Now I’m no prude but I do think there are some things that may not be suitable for a family restaurant. Also after my husband told me about the photographs in the gents, well, I think going in there with a young son may be awkward.|We would probably visit again should we be in the area again but would ask for a window table.

A special place. The food was incredible, the staff were some of the loveliest we’ve ever come across. I wish I got the name of our waitress (glasses, fringe and really lovely) as she immediately made us feel welcome and at ease. I highly recommend getting there before your booking and enjoying the atmosphere in the bar section, or ask for a leaflet of the art and wonder around the rooms. Also, try and get a seat in the Elk Room, it’s a really cool space with an open fire that the head chef is cooking on. One of the my favourite dining experiences, I wish I lived closer than a 3 hour drive away so I could go again and again.

Beyond traditional. A great Sunday lunch, a hearty, and comforting feast that brings people together. It is characterized by high-quality ingredients, perfectly cooked classic components, and a relaxed, atmosphere. Well, this really is my favourite restaurant in Norwich. We love the Sunday chicken roast served whole on a spit and the extra crisp potatoes all cooked to perfection with sumptuous veg.|All the staff are wonderful was served by Clair last week but thank you to the whole team. Any rewards and accolades are well deserved for this establishment Jennifer.

Fabulous place. If you're looking for a romantic break or a break with friends this is the place. So cozy so atmospheric. Food outstanding. The chef cooks the meat on a open fire to absolute perfection every time. Staff super friendly. Rooms fantastic. Thanks for a great break.

Google
Beautiful pub set in stunning grounds. Recently went ( when snowing and with the deer outside the window which made it even more stunning ) and the food was fantastic and the service we received was great. Highly recommend.

We were celebrating a birthday, there was a lovely card with birthday wishes. Staff were professional/relaxed, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff explained the specials with detail, to enable a good choice. |Our food was beautifully served, and delicious. We had 3 of the specials and our only regret was not having the offal starter…. |Happy Birthday in chocolate around the desert, a lovely touch.

Our favourite pub certainly did not disappoint again this year! We celebrated my sister’s birthday yesterday and as always the staff were so friendly and the food…….. oh my word, the chicken roast was excellent shared between my partner and myself and my sister had the venison stew, she said it was so tasty and the dumpling light and fluffy. The atmosphere, decor and surroundings at this is pub is like none other, we will be back soon!

Had a lovely lunch here and tried the venison which is from the estate. The food quality was great, as was the service but the whole vibe with the fire and decor is what makes this place! It’s a lovely atmosphere and the definition of cosy. I highly recommend if in the area ❤️

Yelp
From the drive in through an impressive entrance, to the beauty of the building, its decor and its art collection, this place is an absolute treat from start to finish. Great food from the kitchen - baked herbed scallops and brioche crab cakes were superb - to a very pleasant front of house team, this is a destination venue, so do yourself a favour, book a room and stay a while. The installation art nestled in the many acres of deer park will give you the opportunity to explore and burn off a few calories! And if it's chilly outside, open fires and a pool table offer the perfect setting to while away the hours, or simply muse over their magnificent art collection. Bravo The Gunton Arms

Yelp
Popped in for a cocktail and was impressed by the ultra cool decor. Kind of Downton Abbey meets Beetlejuice. It was around six p.m. and half of the dining tables were full. The bar was packed so I asked a waiter if we could down our cocktails at a table. His response: "We're fully booked tonight. The bar is as big as it is. We can't fit any more tables." Absolutely aghast, I finished my cocktail and went back to the car thinking how sad it was that I wouldn't be trying their menu. I would expect a snotty attitude from a thick glasses wearing hipster in New York, but I was surprised to find it in Norwich. Not recommended.

Yelp
Really nice pub in an amazing location. Considering it was reasonably busy for a Thursday lunch would definitely recommend booking in advance.

Yelp
This is a great pub / restaurant / bed & breakfast. Located just off the main road and inside a vast deer park, it's totally dog friendly, has a great atmosphere and, above all, does fantastic food. We had venison saugages w/mash & gravy and venison liver with cream & mustard sauce plus new potatoes. All perfect - and partially cooked on the open fire in the main room right in front of us. Plus a glass of super wine and some soft drinks = £40.50. Only hitch was somewhat shambolic service (it took 3 reminders to get the mineral water). Defo go there again.

Yelp
The smell walking up to this beautiful little inn is so enticing. You feel like you are entering a time past. Food is amazing and the fire pit in the dining room where they do the cooking is a lovely feature. Art is pretty exciting so keep your eyes pealed. Make a reservation if you want to eat there as it's usually booked up.
