Best Shawarma, Falafel, and Other Middle Eastern Street Food in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"This wildly successful New York-based chain is known for perfecting the art of halal chicken and rice — a fixture of street food carts across the U.S. Piled atop turmeric-flavored yellow rice, moist chicken sits with unfussy iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. But the real star of the platter is the duo of white and red sauces, delivering a yogurty tang with a potent hit of heat; always ask for extra of both." - Alana Al-Hatlani

The Best Middle Eastern Restaurants in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"The Seattle edition of this wildly popular international chain serves up customizable chicken wraps, gyros, and falafel platters, drizzled with white and hot red sauces. This Pioneer Square spot is still open for takeout, but the Halal Guys recently opened a South Lake Union outpost that’s twice as big." - Eater Staff

Bryan Jarr’s Tako Truk Makes Its Pike Place Market Return - Eater Seattle

"The Middle Eastern street food chain Halal Guys — which started as a New York food cart before growing into an empire — is finally expanding to a second Seattle location at 333 8th Avenue North in South Lake Union after some delays. When the first Seattle Halal Guys opened in Pioneer Square two years ago, the place quickly drew long lines. At the new spot, customers will find the customizable signature offerings, including chicken wraps, gyros, and falafel platters, drizzled with white and hot red sauces. The shiny steel, red-and-yellow decor is similar, although the South Lake Union location is more than twice as large as the Pioneer Square outpost. Both spots are open for takeout only." - Gabe Guarente

Wow, I'm still raving about my recent visit to Halal Guys in Seattle! Not only was the food absolutely delicious, but the customer service was top-notch. The two guys working today were incredibly friendly and attentive. The presentation of the gyros was impressive too! If you're in Seattle, I highly recommend stopping by - the service is super fast and the staff are genuinely friendly. Can't wait to go back!

Google
I got a gyro and it was just bleh. It was cooked and assembled fine but didn't have any seasoning or spices. I was genuinely disappointed because it looked beautiful and the guy behind the counter was so friendly.

Google
Platter tastes good overall but the bbq chicken in the platter was not good. Tasted old and less flavorful than before. The chicken wings taste good.. but there was no flavor of the bbq sauce at all!

We had a fantastic experience at this restaurant! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. Every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious—fresh ingredients, great flavors, and beautifully presented. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. Great restaurant, we would most definitely come back! Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable meal and excellent service.

Google
I recently visited the restaurant and wanted to share my experience. While I appreciated the variety of sauces, I found the chicken to be not very flavorful and somewhat disappointing. Unfortunately, I encountered a more serious issue when I found what I initially thought was not hair, but upon the second occurrence, I realized it was hair in my food. I could no longer ignore it and requested to speak with the manager. However, I was informed there was no manager available. I then asked for a refund for my entire order, but ultimately left with just a cup of waters. A few days later, I noticed that I was still charged for it, which was quite frustrating. When I called customer service to clarify, they explained that I was charged for the water cups, even though it was supposed to be free as indicated inside store. Overall, my experience was disappointing due to the quality of the food, the hygiene issues, and the poor customer service. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously to improve hygiene standards and customer support in the future.

Google
Not even remotely comparable to the NYC carts. Chicken was dry, felt boiled, and plain. Would not come here again.

Google
I came to leave a review but I noticed other people have faced similar issues as well. The two boys working there are not customer friendly. The shorter guy would not pour the hot/red sauce on my plate via the bottle they keep, even when I planned to eat in the restaurant. He kept on repeating that management wants you to keep buying more and more of those tiny red hot sauce packets. IF INDEED THIS IS HOW HALAL GUYS INTENDS TO DO BUSINESS. I am never coming here again and none of my friends and family wouldn’t either.

Good place with good food and service. Easy parking's and nice atmosphere. The guys are not Muslim but the food is Halal according to one of the owner.

Yelp
If you're looking for a quick and satisfying meal, **The Halal Guys** is a solid choice! The **service** is incredibly fast, and the workers are really kind, making it a pleasant experience from the start. I ordered the **platter**, and I have to say, they made everything fresh -- the **falafel** was crispy and hot, and you could tell it was just made. The food tasted great, and the **garlic sauce** is absolutely amazing, adding the perfect kick to the whole meal. The place is **clean** inside, which is always a plus, and the atmosphere is casual and easygoing. I'd definitely recommend **takeout** from here if you're in the area and need something quick and tasty. Overall, The Halal Guys delivers great food with great service -- definitely worth checking out!

Yelp
I used to go to halal guys all the time back when I lived in Atlanta, so I'm shocked I haven't gone to this location two blocks from my work until now! But super happy I did! I went for lunch in a Wednesday, around 12:45 pm. Several people were in there eating, but not crowded at all. The restaurant itself is quite small, some seating, but comfortable. On a nice day it is a great area to eat outside. No one was in line so I was immediately able to order, and food was prepped quickly. I saw they were out of the baklava cheesecake in the front so I asked, and was told they only have chocolate, which I was happy to try! The worker also just started frying up a fresh batch of fries so we definitely had to get some. Overall the workers were very nice, offering sauces, ketchup, and salting the fries to our preference! And the food itself was great. Chicken well cooked and flavorful, rice also well cooked, and of course I love the white and red sauces. The fries were really great, especially with how fresh they were. I also thoroughly enjoyed the cheesecake! This will definitely be another one of my regular lunch stops!

Yelp
Been to NYC so many times but avoided the super long lines at their spots in midtown but now I'm so happy they've opened up this shop in Seatown! We had the regular platter (think Chipotle style but better) with chicken and all the fixings plus the pita bread, a warm filled pita with chicken and all the fixings plus a side of six piece falafel and fries. The food was yummy and filling. We also got dessert of honey soaked baklava, baklava cheesecake, and baklava chocolate cheesecake. The ambiance is a simple setting with tables and chairs and nice open air window.

Yelp
Unremarkable. Went for a quick weeknight dinner. I was expecting Halal Guys like they have other cities. I got the chicken rice platter. Utterly bland, unseasoned meat and rice, iceberg lettuce raw veggies - only the white sauce was as expected and it was just heavy mayo with black pepper . The meal was edible but mediocre, it was overpriced at $12.99. I find it hard to believe this is the same stuff my NYC friends rave about. And every single table in the place was dirty at around 6pm and the music they had playing was awful too. The guy working was pretty nice, he was the nicest thing about the place 1 Star just for him. However,I see no reason to return.

Yelp
Great food for the price! Service was super quick & workers were helpful. Would recommend for quick Mediterranean in Seattle!

Yelp
This is one of the few reasonably-priced lunch spots left in SLU. The menu is pretty limited but you can get a decent meal for under $15. Gyro, chicken, or falafel in a plate or a wrap, plus a few sides and a soda machine. There is a bit of seating inside, but I think most people take out. The food is nothing to call home about, but it's reasonably fresh, fast, and consistent.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and very fast. This place is often forgotten during the busy South Lake Union lunch rushes - but it shouldn't be. I love it spicy and this place can please my every taste bud. Good quality meal at a decent price.

FoodNerd T.

Yelp
Worst halal guys location I have ever visited. Chicken had absolutely no flavour and had a gamey off putting smell to it which is very weird for any chicken preparation. Portion size for a $15 bowl was totally underwhelming. I will not visit this location again.

Yelp
At laaaast! 5 years ago, I saw this video on YouTube talking about the red sauce and white sauce from Halal Guys in NYC. Although I wasn't able to go back NYC, I'm glad they opened up a location in Seattle and I was excited I got to try it. Yelp BFF and I ordered the regular beef gyro platter added white sauce with a touch of red sauce and a lychee tea. The beef gyro sits on a bed of rice and topped with lettuce, tomatoes, sauce and a side of pita bread. The beef is freshly carved off the spit and isn't dry at all. When you mix everything together, it resembles a taco salad. Just don't get too much red sauce if you can't handle the spice. The tea was sooo good! I wish we had a Halal Guys back at home. Thanks for reading my reviews! Let me know what to try next!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely clutch, the food is always fresh! The quality is beyond expectations! Have you had the white sauce? And dabbled into the hot sauce they have? AND YOU DAB! Service hooks it up. Definitely not shy on the portions. Everything is so clean and well kept, what a great healthy combination. Halal for gainz! Met the business owner once or twice , super humbling and hospitality was what every small business needs to be! Thank You Halal guys!

Yelp
A classic Halal guys chain, standard flavors, pretty good service, clean restaurant. You get what you except if you've been to a Halal Guys before, pretty good pricing for a good portion of flavorful food. It won't knock your socks off but it's a classic spot to grab a bite if you're feeling the genre.
google avatar

Peter L.

Yelp
Halal Guys has been around for ages and is national, but I never went to one until recently which is surprising given my love of middle eastern food. But my first visit was definitely underwhelming. While the service was fast and food quality was fresh, the taste was very bland. Even the famous white sauce, which is a complete calorie bomb was lacking in flavor. Overall, Halal Guys could work in a pinch but there are definitely better places around.
google avatar

Hong T.

Yelp
Really small location, food didn't taste the freshest. Service was fast and friendly. Good stop for a quick bite, but wouldnt go outta my way for it.
google avatar

Matt K.

Yelp
Not consistent. Whenever the guy with glasses work, food amount is really little. When it's other employees, way more quantity. Be consistent
google avatar

Jeremiah M.

Yelp
Overhyped and nothing special. I've heard a lot about Halal Guys and how popular they are in NYC, and I never knew there was a location in Seattle until earlier this year. So with all the hype out there I had to check it out. Ordered myself the small Beef Gyro Platter which was about $10.99 for the bowl. I also asked for extra of the white sauce since it's apparently an iconic part of the experience. The food itself was just okay, I was hoping it would be warmer but the meat was kind of just room-temperature? The white sauce was good though, but this Beef Gyro Platter was just underwhelming. I've eaten at a lot of Middle-Eastern places before, but Halal Guys just could not compete at all. Makes sense for it being a chain I guess. Maybe I will come try again someday, but this isn't anything to rave about.
google avatar

Vivian H.

Yelp
I like to eat at Hala Guys once in a while. I typically order the Beef Gyro Platter, which comes in a Regular ($12.99) or Small ($10.99). The Regular platters come with two packets of white sauce and one packet of hot sauce compared to one of each with the Small platter. Obviously, you do get more food in the Regular platter as well. You can also choose to order a Gyro Sandwich, if you want everything in a neatly rolled package. I can't get enough of the white sauce, which I can understand why someone would order extra sauce or get the Regular Platter just to have two packets of it. The food itself is tasty with a reasonable price. The Halal Guys is a famous and popular chain that originates from NYC with two locations in Washington: Pioneer Square and South Lake Union.

Yelp
Have had halal guys twice from this location Food is always fresh and delicious Love getting the beef and chicken platter, extra white sauce and extra hot sauce Always hits the spot, will be back to get my halal guys fix whenever I'm craving it
google avatar

Tae A.

Yelp
Long time diner for halal guys since their pioneer opening as well as union. In the beginning they use to provide plenty ingredients but now they cheap out on condiments. Especially their white sauce and hot sauce which they have you purchase on top of the already increased small and regular plates prices. Would be a 1 star if not for the good people that work here.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! What a gem. I am so happy I stumbled upon this location. Not only was the staff incredibly friendly, the food tasted very fresh & hit the spot. The restaurant was clean and organized. Would absolutely recommend

Yelp
As a former NYC native and having lived in NYC for over 18 years, I'd say I have a pretty good sense of good and bad halal street food. Chicken over rice was a weekly thing for me back in nyc. In NYC, I would say that there are better halal cart options than the Halal Guys on 6th Ave or any of their NYC locations. I personally wouldn't rank Halal Guys in NYC among my top 10 favorite halal places. So when I heard they were franchising, I was never really excited for it. In addition, a couple years ago I tried out a Halal Guys franchise in LA, and the chicken over rice was pretty mediocre. Well my halal food and chicken over rice craving has recently been kicking in, ever since I haven't been able to get back to NYC for a while. I've been giving a bunch of Greek, Mediterranean, middle eastern places a try, in order to get something similar, but they didn't satisfy my nyc craving. Maybe it's because I'm a nyc native but it just doesn't taste the same. So despite all my prior experience with Halal Guys, I decided to give this franchise another shot. To be honest, I was a bit surprised. I don't remember halal guys tasting this good before. Maybe my standards for chicken over rice have lowered since being out of NYC, but I would say that the chicken over rice at this location successfully satisfies my cravings for nyc style halal food. I'd say if your a NYer and have a halal street food craving, this place does a decent enough job. Make sure to get the White sauce and barbecue sauce!
google avatar

Eugene C.

Yelp
Finally tried the famous Halal Guys. Don't really see the reason for the hype. Chicken was pretty bland without the white sauce (300+ cal for one sauce packet!), and the spiced lamb was super gamey.
google avatar

Stephen S.

Yelp
Halfway through my meal I chomped down on this screw that was in it! I reported it to management, they offered to remake my food but no refund. I declined their offer as I will never eat here again. If you dine here please be careful when you are eating. You never know what you will find. I have yet to hear from the owner after the manager took down my info.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious bargains here, assembled fast, served with a smile. Had a gyro sandwich To Go, impressed w the flavors & generous amount of meat & will definitely come back again.
google avatar

Harshmeet S.

Yelp
One of the worst restaurants in Seattle. Extremely rude server. I placed online order using the order.thehalalguys.com and ordered chicken shawarma platter. My order was supposed to be prepared by 12 56 pm and when I reached there I was standing in the line and no one was attending pickup orders and after 10 min of waiting he picked my order that was placed and while going to prepare I was told chicken shawarma was over. He told me to cancel calling halal guys corporate office. When I asked what would be the contact he did not reply and just ask me to do it myself. I had a really bad experience.

Yelp
Went here in Seattle before going to hike Baker. Quick, large portions, great little fast food joint with tasty food.

Yelp
I absolutely hate Pioneer Square, it's the sketchiest neighborhood ever, but I've tolerate with it to come to Halal Guys to get delicious food because it's so worth it. Thank goodness, they open up a new location here in South Lake Union so I no longer have to deal with homeless people hassling me for a few bucks if I want them to move out of the way for a parking spot. So Halal Guys are known for something called the "white sauce". Yes, that's literally what they call it here. It's a tzatziki sauce, but white sauce it is here. Right now, since it's during covid, there's no bottle out for you to keep squeezing more sauce in your food unlimitedly, you get 2 pouch of the white sauce and one small packet of the hot sauce. Be careful, it looks small, but this hot sauce is fire and will burn your throat if you just gobble it down without caution. You basically get a choice between gyro or rice bowl as a base. You can pick chicken, beef, a combo of both, or if you're vegetarian, there's an option for that also. It's fast, it's cheap, it's GOOD. I had the option of going to fancier places for my birthday a few years ago, but I choose to go to Halal Guys instead. Tell me about your experience if you've been here or is going to after reading this review:)
google avatar

Tahni H.

Yelp
I have been meaning to try this place for some time. I ordered the beef gyro sandwich & I was not impressed at all. It just tasted so Americanized and inauthentic. No feta cheese. No tzatziki sauce. I don't need green peppers in my gyro. A tiny amount of WHITE ice berg lettuce is another bust for me! I mean you can barely see the lettuce in my picture. What is white garlic sauce sauce? And why would I want hot sauce on my gyro? This meal was not terrible, but it is not what I was looking for or will ever look for again. I've had a lot of gyros in my day and this whole situation just confused me. I will not be going back here. Mr. Gyro in Ballard or Mediterranean Mix in Pioneer Square for the win!! Check them out instead. Your taste buds will thank you.
google avatar

Megan K.

Yelp
Got the chicken and falafel wrap. Both the red and white sauces were delicious on it. It hit the spot after a long day exploring Seattle. Quick service and pleasant employees.
google avatar

TeddyRose A.

Yelp
I love the halal guys. They are taste dependable and always the perfect amount for lunch.
google avatar

Kathy X.

Yelp
I ordered the small chicken falafel platter, it's really fresh and delicious and the small is really filling actually! The white sauce is iconic and scrumptious. We ordered online and the food was ready in under 10 min. Great healthy spot for lunch!

Lyoung J.

Yelp
Mid. The chicken tastes Poke it was boiled in the rice water. No taste. The rice is fragrant, but it's all aroma, no taste. Diluted version of their NYC stand. Sad AF
google avatar

Sean H.

Yelp
Stayed near the Space Needle and found this spot a couple blocks from our hotel. Great food at a great price, as well as longer operating hours than most in the area, in an up-and-coming part of town. Careful with that red spicy sauce. It's a must-have but it KICKS!
google avatar

Alison G.

Yelp
We tried Halal Guys while in New York in 2016 and loved it! While today's wasn't like the first time in New York, it was pretty close and I'd be happy to stop by again in the area. I'm sure I'd be a more frequent visitor if we were working back in office. One party allowed in the store at a time, one direction flow of traffic, easy to order, fresh ingredients, and an overall pleasant experience! Small was the perfect size for me and a large is a good size to share or good to eat on your own if you are feeling extra hungry - like my partner. :)
google avatar

Alex N.

Yelp
This place surpassed my expectations. Service was friendly and fast. Coming home the food was still hot and most importantly, delicious! Glad they have sauce on the side and definitely a healthy portion size. Meats were good, not dry. I'd definitely come back!
google avatar

Tara L.

Yelp
Okay, so we've been to many locations including the original food cart in NYC and this new SLU location wasn't on par with the rest unfortunately. It had been some time since we went to the Pioneer Square location, and since this spot is a little easier to get to from the Eastside, we decided to give it a go. Due to COVID-19, we placed our orders online for in-store pickup. The ordering system is quick and easy. Once we arrived, the pickup experience is a little more convoluted - no clear signage on where to go which makes social distancing more challenging - and considering this is a fast casual concept, customers queue up to place their orders. After a couple minutes, one of the team members came around and handed me my order that was in an enclosed container and I was on my way. We ordered our usual, gyro and chicken and rice platters. They now have 2 sizes, regular at $11.99 and small at $9.99. We went with the regular size and the portions were disappointing. Not only were the meats skimpy, but the rice (!) was practically nonexistent and that's one of the best things! Both gyro meat and chicken were dry and lacked any real flavor, and the gyro meat was especially salty. Even the white and hot sauces didn't add much. If this was the portion for regular, I can't imagine what the small looks like. Staff members were okay, but seemed frazzled and overwhelmed. Perhaps since this is a new location, things will improve in a few months, but for the time being, going to the Pioneer Square location might be a better option.
google avatar

Hiral P.

Yelp
The platters are filling and delicious. I usually get the chicken platter and it's always consistent and great. The sauces they give on the side are great and the service is always fast. I recommend going here
google avatar

M H.

Yelp
This halal guys location is small and quaint in the SLU area. The service is fast and good. Shop is clean and neat. There is outdoor seating all around the outside. I think in comparison to other locations like the one in New York, the chicken is okay but probably doesn't taste the same as the other places. I'd recommend the gyro here. The sauce is packaged. Solid place to eat but just not as good as the New York location.
google avatar

Molinda K.

Yelp
Ordered through door dash during work in South Lake Union and it was quick and delicious. I typically order the falafel salad bowl with extra red spicy sauce.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
The only Halal Guys I've had is in New York so I was curious to try Halal Guys in another state. Although nowhere as good as NYC, things were pretty solid here. Everything was tasty and cooked well. Prices were solid and they definitely filled any cravings I had for them. The regular combo platter is just a nice simple meal that you can never go wrong with. Portion size is good but I would've liked the food to be a little hotter especially with takeout being so prevalent right now. Overall, can't go wrong with Halal Guys!
google avatar

Fraya S.

Yelp
We came when it was open. They have pretty strict protocol for take outs. It is best to order online and then pick it up. However, we were the only ones there and the server was very quick and attentive. No complains. Food is good, no complains.

Quinten B.

Yelp
Halal Guys is top tier! Not only is the food fresh, hot, and delicious, the service they provide is next level. I've ordered upwards of 15+ catering orders with them since becoming an event manager, and each and every one of them has been such a fantastic experience. The staff is polite, respectful, and attentive, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a delicious meal or reliable vendor.
google avatar

Ellen C.

Yelp
The food is just as good as I remembered it from eating from the cart in NY! I thought that the small chicken platter looked small when I received it, but I could not finish it so still think that the portions are good! I didn't like that I paid extra for both the white sauce and spicy sauce (in NY you can provide your own helping of each of the sauces). However with COVID precautions I totally understand (creating the packets probably cost money), but wish they had just provided it free of charge with your meal. You really can't forgo either of the sauces so sadly had to pay for both. With the white sauce they give you 2 packets, and the hot sauce they give you 1. With COVID precautions, only 1 customer was allowed in the store at a time, though some customers (esp the ones who are performing delivery) didn't care for these precautions and just entered the store. I didn't like that these customers did that and while I understand they are in a hurry, I don't understand why the store does not enforce the same rules as the delivery couriers. The customers who were waiting in line to place an order on the other hand were respectful. We waited outside only a little bit before placing our order inside, and they were really quick with getting our orders ready. We also tried the drinks and I would say the drinks are really ordinary, and would not get it next time. Overall a good experience, and I'm so happy they opened a location in SLU! I would definitely come back!

Stuart H.

Yelp
I have ordered catering for events from The Halal Guys more times than I could count, and I've heard overwhelmingly good things from attendees about both the Halal Trio and individual meals. They're very considerate in accommodating dietary restrictions, and have been very communicative by phone and email. For the couple times we've had issues with an order (largely outside of THG's control), they've been very responsive in resolving things. On top of that, they're pretty inexpensive for the amount of food you get. Would definitely recommend for catering!
google avatar

Alane G.

Yelp
Clean establishment and signage for COVID. My first time at this location as it's been around for only 3 weeks. I've only been to the Pioneer Square location once, but a lot of times when I lived in CA. Nothing will compare to the og in NY from THG cart, however for it being new I think they're still learning. Friendly staff for sure, but the portions were not normal than what I'm used to. Usually the whole bottom is covered with rice then everything else on top. The rice we had was not cooked all the way through and the chicken is not chopped up into pieces as usual. A little sad about it because I was really excited. Maybe I'll try again in a few months.

Yelp
TL;DR food is good, put the white sauce on anything and everything, but if you like traditional baba ghanoush, i'd pass on that. i'm mostly reviewing out of pure confusion. i've been going to various halal guy for 6+ years now and have always gotten the falafel sandwich and a side of baba ghanoush. i don't live near a halal anymore so any time i'm in town near one, i get it. that being said, this was my first time at this location. the sandwich was fine, i was bummed that the sauce is in packets and not just on the sandwich, but whatever. the baba ghanoush however is the most baffling thing. halal guys used to have some of my favorite baba ghanoush and trust that's saying a lot because i consume a lot of baba ghanoush. but this time the baba ghanoush was kind of sweet and had red peppers in it???? and doesn't taste like baba ghanoush at all? i am very confused and yeah i haven't had halal guys in a year, but their website says nothing about the changes.

Lennon B.

Yelp
Delicious gyros! The staff is very nice. Not much atmosphere, but very clean. Great location close to the Climate Change Arena taboot!

Yelp
Halal Guys has kicked butt since it first started in NYC. This place is faithful to the recipe. The bowl comes with meat, rice, lettuce, tomatoes, pita, and of course the white sauce. It's comfort food and its consistent. Great for a cold Seattle evening pickup when you're craving it. I recommend skipping using the whole packet of sauce since its pretty hefty in calories. As long as prices stay stable Halal Guys is always a great quick option.

Alyson C.

Yelp
Skip! Not authentic at all, close to a Taco Bell of "halal" and it's not even that (it's like eating taco toppings)!

Taha H.

Yelp
literally the worst halal guys we've ever been to! The gyro was soo hard and chewy.. did not taste like meat. The chicken was alright. Waste of money
