The pretty, open , airy ambiance is what brought us in, expecting the food to be as lovely! The menu looked promising. ( the food was not , unfortunately.)
Our waiter approached with loads of sweat beads literally dripping off of his face! I could tell my husband was just as terrified that his sweat was going to drop on us , our food & beverages, but what were we to do ?! ( in hindsight, we should have perhaps joked about the humid day and offered him our napkins to wipe his face and relieve our fear ?)
Anyway, my husband ordered an iced tea and I ordered sparkling water w/ a glass of ice, lemons and limes on the side . The waiter seemed very confused & returned w/ a bottle of sparkling water & 2 glasses . His face was still covered in sweat, so we just accepted what he brought. As soon as he left, I went to the bar& asked for lemons and limes, a glass of ice ,which the bartenders were very happy to provide and sweat free lol.
I ordered the beet salad & he ordered 6 oysters from each coast,to start.( still no iced tea, so my husband reminded him). We then said ,for our next course , I would like the fish tacos & my husband would like a lobster roll . As soon as they brought my husband's iced tea out, they also brought ALL of the food at once!
I really hate when this happens, because you can't even enjoy yours appetizer / starter , because the warm food gets cold , so if you eat your main course , first , so it doesn't get cold , you might as well not bother with an appetizer, right? .
Anyway, I started in on the salad which looked amazing! My first bite in, I had to spit it out, because the goat cheese was spoiled. I was so bummed because the beet salad was a nice portion & looked beautiful and I even thought, I would come back often , just for that!
A different waiter came by to take it away. I think they could smell that it was spoiled. Then, Someone else came by and asked if I would like another one, so we proceeded to tell them that the goat cheese was spoiled, but yes , if I could have the salad without the goat cheese, that would be great! They said that was impossible because there's some kind of goat cheese on the bottom, and then goat cheese crumbled throughout.
I don't really understand this ? Don't they make each salad per order? Does this mean they have a huge batch with the goat cheese in it, sitting in the back? Well, no wonder it went bad!
The fish tacos were very flavorful. I'm definitely not suggesting to go there for fish tacos , because the actual fish in the tacos was hard to find! It was little bits of cod on the bottom, but regardless the flavor was good.
My husband 's Lobster roll is a whole other story. The Lobster in it looked so old. Old and dry.Yuck. I don't know how or why my husband even took a bite of it. Especially since he grew up with real Maine Lobster!
He picked the meat out of the bun to try to find a good piece to eat, but it all was dry & looked very old. He said the bun was completely saturated with butter, also. ( perhaps they should've put some of that butter on the lobster?! ) It was pretty inedible.
A manager came to our table to ask how we were doing and my husband just politely asked where the Lobster was from . She asked back , " which Lobster roll did you order? At this point we knew we could never come back! We tried not to laugh hysterically (until after we left ) ! Here's why : you have 2 choices when you get a lobster roll there. You can have it " manhattan style ( their description is warm & buttery ) or " maine style " ( their description is chilled & creamy ). So, I guess if we said he ordered the Manhattan style, she was going to tell us the lobster was from Manhattan, and if we said maine style , that the lobster was from Maine?! I can't even!!! . We stopped her right there before she could embarrass herself, but I think she realized, because she said oh, I guess that was a stupid question, I'll go back and ask. We told her that it was OK and not to bother. Honestly at this point, we just wanted to leave, go somewhere else to get some real food to eat! Needless to say, my husband didn't eat the lobster roll. ( from Canada).
He had one of my fish tacos, since it came with/ 3 .
The 20% gratuity is already included in the bill FYI , so we paid and left.
To be fair , the restaurant just opened and it always takes a few months for a new restaurant to iron out the kinks. This restaurant needs a very large iron!!!
