The Hart and The Hunter Review - Fairfax - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"When “Pali” falls before a word in this town, it means a few things. First off, turn around and go home because you’re probably not wearing enough black. Secondly, consider just staying at home. The end-high hospitality group’s properties have long thrived off exclusivity, awkward pseudo-nightclub dance floors, and the deep wallets of drunk CAA agents. So needless to say the offer of casual Sunday brunch at one of their establishments sounds unnecessarily stressful, right? Well, hold on. First of all, The Hart and The Hunter is located inside the PaliHotel, a few minutes drive but a world away from the colossal PaliHouse in Weho. The Hart and The Hunter acts as the all-day restaurant for the boutique hotel and aside from a few peak hours on the weekend, it remains largely serene and inoffensive. The interior has a relaxed, cafe-like feel and the side patio is a comfortable spot that looks out over the neighborhood. But more importantly, let’s discuss the prospect of their hangover-curing brunch. The Hart and The Hunter serves very good loosen-your-belt-buckle Southern comfort food. Your vodka-scorched stomach is rebelling? The only remedy is the best biscuits in LA. Sure, housing an order of them is like taking a point-blank butter cannon straight to the aorta, but it’s Sunday: time for calories. The Hart and The Hunter has a separate menu for each meal of the day and while there are some gems to be found on each, this restaurant thrives best in the late morning. So round up the crew and your favorite pair of sweats and go wash away your Saturday night sins with some old-fashioned American cholesterol. ClassPass starts on Monday. Food Rundown Butter Biscuits and Condiments Double check your health insurance plan and then go all-in on these steaming hot butter igloos. Served with pimento cheese, more butter (obviously) and peach jam, we’re not going out on a limb by saying these are far and away the best biscuits in town. Pork Hash All of the yes. Only served on the brunch menu, this hearty helping of peppers, potatoes, and sunny side up eggs is the ideal remedy for any Sunday hangover and a nice starting point for your upcoming food coma. Fried Green Tomatoes Your Southern BBQ dreams have finally come true. With a cornmeal crust and a side of Thousand Island Dressing, this is summer picnic goodness and easily shared amongst the table. Shaved Raw Brussel Sprouts This dish has the look and feel of something your stoner roommate threw together for a 4th of July party, but don’t worry. The crunch of those peanuts and a fist full of cheddar cheese are all that’s needed to make this appetizer a table favorite. Shrimp and Grits It’s hard to beat any version outside of South Carolina but The Hart and The Hunter has given LA a very respectable version. The shrimp is good and those grits are even better. Smoked Trout It’s hard to tell it from the menu but this might be one of the more dynamic versions of avocado toast around. The trout is served in a skillet and comes with a board full of fixings like pickled onions to put on top of your avocado masterpiece. Steamed Venus Clams Not the star of the menu by any means but still pretty good. And for $16 this massive portion is actually a phenomenal deal." - Brant Cox

The Hare and Hound in Landrum, SC, is a fantastic dining spot that truly stands out. From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with friendly, attentive service, making you feel like part of the family. The menu offers a great variety — everything from steak and fish to delicious chicken dishes and pasta is expertly prepared and full of flavor. Popular items like the Bacon Stuffed Pork Chop and Fish and Chips are consistently praised for their taste and portion size. The lively atmosphere and comfortable setting make it perfect for casual meals or special nights out. Don’t miss the weekend specials, especially the Famous Baby Back Ribs and Prime Rib, which are highlights. The complimentary fresh popcorn while you wait is a nice touch too. It’s often busy. Overall, it’s the best place to eat in Landrum with quality food and warm Southern hospitality! Highly recommended.

Google
The place is good, a combination imitation pub and sports bar. The server was fantastic, patient, helpful, waters were never empty. We had mixed reactions on the food. Fried mushroom appetizer was 5 star, as were the sweet potato fries. Shepherd's pie was a hit. The shrimp basket was good, nice size shrimp, but not outstanding, and the regular fries were OK. Most were ignored for the great serving of sweet potato fries on one plate. Really could not wait to try the Waygu Patty Melt special. Again, not bad, just nothing special. Given the price, I'd weigh in at 3 stars if not for the great staff - super nice and efficient.

Google
Our favorite restaurant! Never had a bad meal here. So many great items on their menu. Food is always served hot and fresh. Steaks have always been cooked perfectly. Love when they have the cheese curds on the weekly specials. You must try the deep fried cheesecake - it’s a heavenly experience! Service is always great. Only downside is that everyone else loves it too, so always busy and there is usually a wait. But the wait is worth it!

All of our fans really hyped up this place. The atmosphere was fine. We loved the popcorn while waiting for our food. Our waitress was Monika and she was lovely, so friendly and happy to answer our questions. She never let our drinks go empty. I was excited to see so many gluten-free menu options. They’re clearly labeled on the menu. The gluten-free bread was absolutely delicious. We were a little bit, disappointed by the onions in our food. They were a strange texture and not very flavorful. I’m allergic to mushrooms, but he said his mushrooms were the same way. All in all, we loved the atmosphere and we plan to give it another shot in case the onions was just a one off thing. I absolutely loved my green beans that were the side to my gluten-free patty melt. There was a long wait but we called ahead so we were already 20+ minutes into waiting technically so we only waited 22 minutes once we got there and we felt like that was very fair. Most of the shops around we’re closed, but we walked far down the street and there was one antique shop that was open and we enjoyed shopping there for 22 minutes and we walked back when we got our text.

Great place for getting together with friends for lunch. Indoor and outdoor provide both intimate space or a vibrant atmosphere for a party. Staff was friendly, the service was quick, and the food was typical American bar food.

Google
What an experience in cuisine. Ordered the clam chowder. Best I've ever tasted. EVER! Had the fried catfish and it was perfectly cooked. Atmosphere was quaint and cozy. Service was superb. Can't wait for another trip to try other items from their tasty menu.

It’s always a treat to travel to Landrum to eat at The Hare and Hound. They offer a wide selection of very tasty food. A variety of stores to explore pass the time quickly while waiting to be seated.

Google
It was our first time ever eating at the restaurant. We chose to eat in the upstairs lounge since it was so hot outside and we didn’t want to wait. Not crowded at all upstairs and we were seated right away!

Yelp
Went for the first time from a recommendation from a coworker. Great little place. They do have outside seating that is covered and heated. With it raining decided to eat inside. I started with a salad. I got ranch dressing which tasted home made. For main I got Swiss and mushroom burger with fries. Burger was done perfectly cooked to medium and tasted great. For dessert I had the fried cheesecake. Came with ice cream Carmel sauce and whip cream. It also had a cinnamon sugar topping. It was amazing. The waitress was extremely busy but always seen a smile on her face. Amazing place worth a try.

Yelp
This place is legit fabulous. We had over the top extraordinarily kind service. We went in late and our server bottled up the last of the tea for is in gallons. We were there the night hurricane Helene hit. We didn't know what we were in for the rest of our trip. We told the team we didn't have any water or power. They were so kind. The food was amazing. I'm With everyone else. The popcorn is a nice touch. You have to get it yourself but its free and its fresh. I had the Reuben sandwich--happy as a clam! The man had the lasagna, he was very happy. The Brussels sprouts starter was huge!!!! Definitely worth the price. Would be back in a jiffy without even thinking about it, if we are back in the area. Until then, pray for everyone affected by the storm and be kind to your neighbors. We were far from Home and they treated us like family!!! #priceless

Yelp
The food is amazing here!!! Guinness Beef Pie was to die for. Others in my party also enjoyed the sandwiches and the potato salad was incredible. You definitely must visit. Great food.

Yelp
We when here with a reservation for 12 on a week night. The table setup wasn't the most ideal for chatting with everyone. Service was very good and efficient. The Brussel sprout app wasn't on the menu but it's available if you ask. There were some great specials and the best things we ate were specials. The duck was very good and the flatbread with persimmons was fantastic. I firmly believe this is the best place you could eat anywhere around. The ladies who got the stuffed pork chop had mixed reviews one glowing and one average. I thought the bread pudding was pretty good and a nice way to finish dinner.

Yelp
We waited an hour for two sliders and got two burgers The service started out great then we felt ignored At one point we had to fill our own water

Yelp
Besides the beginning service which was kind of confusing . They took our name down , we waited for 30 minutes and took other names down to. But then they had no idea who was next, then when they went to sit us they said the seat was taken. So we sat at the bar. FOOD WAS PHENOMENAL! BAR SERVICE WAS GOOD. The bartender was extremely nice! GOT THE BACON CHEESEBURGER with egg on top! Just wow!! Fries were delicious also! I highly recommend this place! Besides the beginning confusion everything was REALLY GREAT.

Yelp
Lunch on Friday was in Landrum, SC at the Hare and Hound. I met some older young ladies for lunch with my sister and two of her grandchildren. I met these ladies many years ago when my mother was still living, they were her friends, and they became really good friends with me. The Hare and Hound had been our next lunch destination, since our last luncheon date last year. It was a nice day with a nice breeze in the in the shade. There is outdoor seating, and a gentleman playing some really nice jazz on his guitar. We decided to eat inside, there is mostly booth seating and only one bathroom(only one person can use it). A problem with a restaurant of that size, and the number of people that dine there. Even with the restroom door locked some one was constantly knocking on the door the entire time it took me to use the restroom. Usually a locked door means someone is in there. The atmosphere was nice, but a little noisy. Our waiter was very attentive and checked on us periodically, and kept our drinks refilled. The menu has a good variety of appetizers, soups, salads, pub favorites and desserts to choose from. I decided to get the chicken quesadilla and lemonade to drink. The lemonade was tart pink lemonade, not really sweet after adding some Splenda was much better. We didn't have a long wait for our food. The chicken quesadilla comes with three scoops one each of salsa, sour cream and guacamole. The quesadilla was only ok to me, one tortilla cut into four pieces. It had pieces of grilled chicken breast with some tender and tough pieces of chicken, onions and melted cheese. If you order this, don't carry it out, it is not good cold or reheated it was only warm when it was served. For dessert I got the fried cheesecake, it too was only ok to me. I'm not exactly sure what the cheesecake mixture was wrapped in, but it was similar to a fried tortilla with caramel sauce, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and whipped topping a dusting of powdered sugar. The caramel sauce, the ice cream and cheesecake filling was good, but that fried wrap was tough to cut into and chew. A wasted $8.00 and some change for that dessert. The total of my bill for me and my twelve year old niece was $44.64, kind of expensive not to have enjoyed my meal. I did enjoy spending time with my friends and family, and would ask that you give The Hare and Hound a try. I would again, just to try some thing else on their menu.

Carol R.

Yelp
Great selection. Attentive service and nice atmosphere Food was fresh I had a burger We enjoyed the fried pickles and the soup of the day was delicious

Yelp
I LOVE the Hare and Hound! It's so nice to be greeted and welcomed with the kind of hospitality that screams 'we like that you are here and want you here!' Mary, our sweet server addressed us by our names and I thought that was pretty cool. Our meals were incredible! Here, you get what you pay for and that's superb quality and taste! The atmosphere is pretty dern cool too with its multi generations, tiny downtown, tree lit corner vibes. What a nice retreat this place is after a long morning of antique shopping!

Yelp
We go here regularly. We love the ribs. We love the patties melt. We love the nachos. we love the scored flounder. The hair and the hound is amazingly good. The best restaurant in Landrum, by far. Reliably tasty with something on the menu for everyone.
google avatar

Nata M.

Yelp
I enjoyed every bite of my fried flounder accompanied to the vegetables steamed to perfection with some hint of garlic. 10 stars! The fish was fresh and yummy! Thank you, guys!

Yelp
If you're in Landrum and someone says "Do you want to grab dinner?" the translation is "Do you want to grab dinner at the Hare and Hound." The food is always good, the staff is always friendly, and the prices are reasonable. I want to offer 2 pieces of advice: First Call Ahead! It is often busy, in fact it is not uncommon to drive by and see people waiting in line, sometimes even in the rain. Second, they usually have several specials which really add additional options to what is already a pretty large menu. In summation it's a great place to grab a meal or drink, be sure to do yourself a favor and check out the specials. Will probably be back soon!

Yelp
Lunch was so excellent that we returned the next day! Incredible food with spectacular service. Really enjoyed the outdoor patio.

Yelp
Wanting to show my appreciation to Dave, and his exceptional customer service. I am visiting SC from LA, and haven't experienced such friendly, above and beyond service anywhere in Los Angeles. Thank you for the extra medallion :) Until next time.

Yelp
Randomly found this place online because we were traveling through this area. I ordered the Guinness Beef Pie and it was delicious. It had plenty of beef and was full of flavor. My wife ordered the Broiled Mountain Trout. It was good, but it didn't blow my mind. It was similar to any other restaurant you would get fish at. The atmosphere was fantastic and the service was excellent. It's only a couple of miles off of I26. If you are passing through or live close by and have never given it a try, you should stop by. I don't think anyone will be disappointed.
google avatar

Lindsey B.

Yelp
10/10 recommend! Best in town to get lunch or dinner (or both!) Food is always on point, drinks are great and they have an awesome selection of alcohol too. Atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. Ask for Josh! Yes, he's the cute one. He'll take care of you.
google avatar

Gil G.

Yelp
After a long hiatus, we went back here with some friends and had a great experience. Each of us enjoyed our meal. My fish & chips, in particular, were terrific. I love that they follow the true British style of battered fish filets rather than beer-battered cubes of fish that seems so common in our area. My only (slight) negative was that the seating process was a bit discombobulated. We had called ahead but it still took 45 minutes to get seated. But, it was a bust Friday night, and the staff were very nice about it, so I'm not going to count it against them.
google avatar

Skip W.

Yelp
Great food and great staff. Felt very welcomed on the first visit. Ambiance is wonderful also. Prices very reasonable and the beer is nice and cold. Get there early. Fills up fast. Sit at the bar if you can.
google avatar

Yelp
Everything was perfect!! Food service and the ambiance. You have to try it. If Mary Lou is your server then you will most definitely have a great time!! Enjoy!!

Erin D.

Yelp
The ambiance, the food, general atmosphere. It was all great. Always is. Love this place

Roger P.

Yelp
Service was great, a little chilly that day and were seated on patio but very comfortable with the heater going. The food was less than desirable. I had the chopped steak with mushrooms and onions. The meat had zero taste, as well as the gravy. Onions were burnt and gave an awful taste to the whole meal. Wife had the fish and chips. Crispy fries and greasy fish. Had high expectations of this place only to be let down. Probably wouldn't go back.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Our waitress was exceptionally attentive service wise and informative on the menu. I could see that the other employees were also really on it. Our chicken strips were a little too coated/hard on the outside. The sirloin, mashed potatoes, house made chops, and fries were all good. The honey mustard was perfectly balanced sweet with the mustard tang. We opted for the smaller chocolate dessert but it was still plenty for 2 adults. Another thing taking a star off was the music, which really didn't seem to fit the atmosphere or older clientele. Anything other than pop music would have been better. We will most likely be back.

catherine m.

Yelp
Great place for food especially the fried chicken livers I was told people came from miles to have it,, very yummy Great place overall
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
A great place to dine! Reservations are recommended as it is a popular place in Landrum. I try different items everytime we go there @ I'm never disappointed! Good sized portions and while you're waiting for your food they'll give you a basket of popcorn to nibble on ( and it's good also!). Not real expensive but not cheap either!
google avatar

Ambyr R.

Yelp
Delicious food and excellent service! We were seated quicker than we thought, food made it out in a timely manner and was DELICIOUS!!
google avatar

Yelp
I must I must I must revise my review. I had a bad experience previous visit. We had a very pleasant experience with fantastic food and service.(Ask for Erin). My pimento and bacon stuffed pork chop was over the moon!! I was full halfway through but just had to keep eating! My apologies to the Hare and Hound for my lousy first review. I must have been in a bad mood.
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
This is a great lunch stop. Outdoor seating has dishes so you can bring your dog. Mary, our server was very friendly. The fish and chips reminded me of dining in Scotland. The only difference is the food here is served on a plate and not on newsprint. Definetly a place to return to after apple picking.

Mary Ann L.

Yelp
Great food and great service from Josh!!! Will definitely return. Sat outside where there was music, which was fun.

Yelp
A nice little restaurant/pub located on a main corner intersection in Landrum. As Landrum is a very walkable city, this restaurant fits right in with the craft shops, antique shops and quaintness of the town. As the name suggests, this is a classic pub and has the decor, feel and menu of a pub. Complimentary popcorn is available for the diners. The menu is diverse. In our party we had the hot ham sandwich, the Reuben, the pot roast, the country fried steak and the shepherd's pie (Guinness Beef Pie). Everyone said their meal was good, but not outstanding. Since it was about 2PM on a Sunday, the pot roast was reported as beginning to be "too mushy" on the meat and very salty, speculating that it was near the bottom of the pot and some concentration of salt might have happened. Anyway, it was too salty. My wife enjoyed the hot ham and cheese sandwich, nothing outstanding, just good. I had the Reuben - and I am picky about this, so it was a good sandwich, but it was a bit light on the Russian dressing (they call is special sauce) and what you are looking for here is the crunch of the bread, the heat of the corned beef (in this case) and cheese, the coolness and crunchy sourness of the kraut and the dressing smooths that out with a creamy sweetness. This one did not have the soggy bottom bread - big plus. It was narrow on the dressing, so the sauerkraut took over. It will scratch the itch though. Reports on the country fried steak and sawmill gravy were positive for this comfort food. The place is hopping! It is typically crowded, but we only had to wait 15 minutes to be seated, although our party of six was cozy even in the larger booth. The service was excellent. Our server was Conner. Very attentive to our needs, especially keeping drinks refilled proactively and he always approached and addressed us as "friends" - "Friends, how we doing today?" Very likeable young man who did a good job. This is a fun place with good service and decent enough food and variety to make it a must stop in Landrum. Although, it may be a little touristy since it is so prominent of a location that it gets a lot of attention from the foot traffic.

Yelp
My favorite Landrum restaurant . Nice drive from Spartanburg for a delicious lunch or dinner. So excited to return to enjoy their new upstairs bar. Dinner favorites: almond crusted trout , ribs, Friday Prime Rib or whole baby flounder. Lunch favorites: chicken salad Croissant, chop salad, cheeseburger sweet potato fries. Call ahead to get on "wait list" or expect to wait on weekends. (Nice wait "people watching" on Main Street)
google avatar

Becca C.

Yelp
We had the best lunch at the hare and the hound! We ordered the spinach dip for the table and it was so tasty! I got the fish and chips and the fish was so good not super greasy and had a lot of flavor unlike other places. My mom got the tuna sandwich and was also really impressed with her meal. Our server was such a sweet man who told us stories and was very attentive we had the best lunch! Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

J C.

Yelp
Traditional Pub style restaurant must try the Fish and Chips - they were spot on! Came out hot and fresh. Carolina Burger was XL and smothers with chili, slaw and onions-perfect! The service was excellent as well. We will be back the next time in Saluda.
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
We stopped at this place while driving from Tennessee to Florida. This was a nice restaurant in a cool small town. The chicken pot pie was very good and staff was friendly
google avatar

Yelp
Went back for lunch a week ago and this time I ordered the fish and chips. Everything tasted so good and fresh! Our plates were loaded with fish, too. The slaw was good and so were the fries. I really like the batter they use on the fish. It was a great meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Always busy but always great service and very good food. Went Christmas Eve and yep it was busy but were seated in about 15 minutes. Delish potato soup and my friend had fish n chips. Always a crowd pleaser

Suzanne P.

Yelp
I can't remember how many times I have been here but do know that consistency is the key to a good establishment and Hare n Hound has figured it out. Everything today was delicious and plentiful! We enjoyed sitting on the patio listening to some nice acoustic guitar and enjoying a HUGE club sandwich and potatoe skins! We were observing other plates and others look just as good as ours. Without a doubt, one of the best restaurants in Spartanburg County.
google avatar

Yelp
The Hare and Hound is a good restaurant with a cool vibe. We recently went on a Saturday evening and it was crowded. They don't appear to be on Open Table for reservations, but I did learn that you can join an online waitlist, so I'll do that next time. Regardless of the wait on a busy night, my family and I really liked the food. We started with some oysters on the half-shell and they were really good. We also had the spinach artichoke dip and it was fine. I had the Guinness Beef Pie and I really liked it. My wife was all about the Honey Child Chicken Salad, and my sons had the Linguini Bolognaise and Fried Catfish, respectively. Everyone was very happy with their orders. And our server was really good too. He was attentive to our drinks, checked on us enough to know we were on his radar but wasn't overbearing. The ambience is cool... kind of like an Irish Pub. They provided a basket of popcorn for the table to munch on which I thought was a neat touch. It's not a place for a quiet romantic date night; it's busy, bustling, and a little loud - but not in an obnoxious way. But if you want good food at a cool restaurant nestled on a nice little Main Street check out the Hare and Hound. We'll definitely go back.
google avatar

Kayla T.

Yelp
We started w the brussel sprout app and it was delicious We ordered the catfish fish and chips and the the shrimp basket. Everything was delicious and service was awesome!!!
google avatar

Bill M.

Yelp
Great ambience and earnest staff. I had the Guinness Beef Pie which is a fairly traditional shepherd's pie. It was quite tasty. The only downside was the garlic toast it was served with. It appeared to be that nasty stuff from the grocery freezer section and cold and soggy one side. Just pitch that and enjoy the pie. Well worth the wait to get i.

Jana P.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. The fish and chips are wonderful. In fact We live in Taylors and it is definitely worth the drive for the fish and chips. If you have not eaten here you should.

David P.

Yelp
Just returned from a wonderful lunch! Have eaten here for several years! Always a great place to take friends from out of town. Food is always awesome, and the service is top notch. Josh was very attentive and knowledgeable of options. Very friendly and personable without being pushy! Atmosphere is comfortable and not loud. Highly recommend for drinks or a memorable meal!!

Yelp
We stopped in for some sweet desserts. Our waitress was Jenn. She was fabulous. Very sweet and honest. She lead us to some great dessert suggestions. We decided on the strawberry blueberry bread pudding and the chocolate cake. The bread pudding was wonderful. It had a fresh taste and - as described by my friend - had flavors that popped liked the summer sun. I had the chocolate cake - oh boy - it most definitely satisfied the chocolate urges. It was a large piece indeed. The menu looks great as well We returned for lunch and as usual we sit outside due to Covid. I will note - no masks for servers that I saw. We were lucky enough to have Jenn as our server again. She is just a fun person and looks good with her outdoor shades. She went out of her way to take care of our requests. Our lunch started with table side popcorn. This was a nice treat as we waited for our sandwiches. We had the Rueben and Honey Child. I really enjoyed the rueben. The flavors melded very well together. The Honey Child was alright - but that's because I'm not really a big fan of chicken salad. The atmosphere outside rocked! Will definitely return to try other menu items.

Yelp
We sat at the bar. Talked to a local who asked bartender to bring us popcorn. We ordered the southwest salad and shrimp quesadilla. Both were excellent. As well as quick service. Friendly place and very crowded on Sunday @12:30.

Shawn R.

Yelp
Best food and staff around. The manger Amanda she is amazing anytime me and my wife go to eat we have a 6 month old daughter they always make it a point to come talk and play with her.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. They literally make you feel like family at this place! Love the option to dine outside too. Come try this place out!!

Chris M.

Yelp
The food is greasy and terrible. Every so often I go back to see if the quality has improved. This isn't even good pub food.

Bruce W.

Yelp
The share and Hound is a staple in Landrum it's a great venue from the bar to the dining area. Great service and great food. You can't go wrong here

Yelp
We visited based on a recommendation on New Year's Eve not knowing what to expect for wait time etc. they offer reservations if you call 24 hours ahead, and call ahead seating (to skip the main wait line) . They do not do call ahead for between 6-7 since it's the busiest time. Although busy: we were seated quickly due to the call ahead. Our server, Nancy, was great and offered recommendations. The Honey Child' chicken salad croissant was delicious, the ribs were ok...a little dry but they were also dry ribs not wet), but the appetizer sampler was just ok.....very heavy breading compared to other places. If we were ever in the area again, we'd give it another try!
