"This neighborhood hangout has a cozy feel, complete with a wood-paneled bar and warm amber lighting. The light menu features small bites — like popcorn shrimp and hot honey wings — until 11 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The bar, meanwhile, keeps the party going until 1 a.m. Tuesday to Sunday, and pours everything from punches to slushies." - Mekita Rivas

Talk about a hidden gem! GREAT spot for drinks and small bites. The painkiller is SO tasty! I’ve never had such a smooth frozen drink - it literally tastes like vacation! The tots were SO good too. Everything really was awesome. Service was great - Annie was so kind and welcoming and attentive. We will definitely be back.

Great cocktail place. Highly recommend!

This place is really nice! The bartender is very attentive, the drinks were great. The shrimp was out of this world! It's a low lit place nestled in h street but it's worth a visit. There isn't a big selection for food. More so drinks on deck and a few GREAT options to FEED THE LIQUOR. thank me later

Customer service was not right from the start and never warmed up. The inside is rather on the dark side for décor but is nice for a drink and go. Ordered the ceviche which was very sweet and didn't taste like ceviche more like a mango salsa. The kale salad was very soggy and lacked overall flavor. The hot honey shrimp were flavorful but due to the service would not return or recommend.

Love the new menu. They still have wings and fries for the non adventurous eaters. Favorite dishes: Brussels sprout (light sauce) Smoked salmon dip Pork and shrimp dumplings

Last night after Crab Boss sent us on our way we went to the Haymaker bar. It’s in the H street neighborhood. When I walk past this place, I always wanna try. Well, they didn’t disappoint. Probably the. Eat bar food I had I a very long time. Cocktail was a frozen tropical slushee with tequila. Highly recommended even though I didn’t finish it. Plus is didn’t taste or smell like tequila. YAy me! Tater tots, I forgot their name for it. But baybeee they are so good! Has bacon and cheese. Didn’t try the sauces cuz I’m greedy. We stopped in the try the Cajun shrimp bowl. That’s what initially pulled us in. Bursting with savor and flavor. Please try! Wings were crispy and full of flavor. If you’re a small wing eater, they’re a go. Just the right size. Vibes. The ambiance was on point. Dimly lit, chill playlist and young diverse crowd. Our server Chai was soooo nice!

Came late night on a Wednesday just for drinks and this place did not disappoint! Drink menu by itself was creative well priced and expertly crafted. Tom was our Bartender who indulged all my cocktail questions and mods. Felt like I made a friend! Highly recommend.

Last minute happy hour move. Service was great. Prices are on point with other bars. Issue was the portion size for tacos and old bay wings were over seasoned. Overall all cool spot..

Melody B.

Yelp
Loved these cocktails, especially because they had green chartreuse which is hard to find at a bar. They made amazing cocktails with it and had creative options you don't find most places. Definitely will go back.

Yelp
Haymaker is a charming hidden gem that might be easy to overlook from the outside. The bartenders are exceptionally friendly, providing some of the best customer service I've experienced at local bars. The cocktails are skillfully crafted, adding to the overall experience. However, I find the food, particularly the wings, less impressive. At $14 for just five small wings, they are overpriced and only mediocre in flavor. Despite this, the welcoming atmosphere and superb drinks make it a worthwhile spot to visit.

Yelp
I made sure I checked in here to get the reminder to leave the review. Honestly was just walkin around and stumbled on this bar. Seemed cool so walked in. Bar was packed but there was seating elsewhere around. Simply asked the female bartender if they had a happy hour menu as most bars do..I didn't think it was that far fetch of a question...but she did. She made a joke about me inquiring about happy hour as if I couldn't afford a regular priced drink. I was overdue for a drink so I brushed her unprofessionalism off and ordered a drink ..it was basic but ehhh ..she def will ruin your customer retention with such ill behavior Signed, A person who will not be returning

Yelp
I actually stumbled into this bar late on a weekday night. They were the only bar only on the block and ended up being the perfect after-dinner spot. My date and I sat at the bar and ordered drinks. There were only a few other patrons so the energy felt relaxed and intimate. We were able to catch a few minutes of a Women's World Cup game, which was awesome since it didn't feel like a traditional sport bar. The lighting was low, the bar was backlight with greenery, and the cocktail selection was unique. I liked everything about this bar and I'll definitely post another visit when I'm on H. St.

Hiral D.

Yelp
Please do yourself a favor and get the truffle fries here. We also got high noon and a beer here. Service was friendly and vibe was chill :). No happy hour though nice nice drink selection.

Yelp
Exceptional food!! We stumbled upon this place looking for wings. The wings were fantastic. The waitress was very nice and the atmosphere was clean and comfortable. I will say if you don't want to eat in a darker dim environment this place is not for you. It is a bar and has a few high tables to eat at. This wasn't an issue for us, but it may be for others. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Annie literally remembered us from more than 2 years ago!!!!!! Still my fav painkiller - tasty and strong. Service is obviously impeccable. Ambiance is changing - the menu is new - feels a bit more boogie and I'm not mad about it :)

Sing R.

Yelp
The bartender/servicer was by himself but he made sure everyone is served with great services. Five stars for him. We order mess totes, buffalo wings and hot honey shrimp. All delicious. Nice small bar, with good atmosphere.

Talaya P.

Yelp
Service was amazing when I went. I arrived literally at 10PM when their kitchen closed and my bartender still let me sneak an order of dumplings in. It was so worth it! My first time here and glad I found it. Cute cocktail bar with speakeasy-ish vibes with reasonable prices. Will def be back!

Alexis I.

Yelp
I love The Haymaker! It's my favorite spot in the neighborhood. The vibe is always good, the staff are friendly, and the drinks are top-notch. My favorite bartender is Senora, she makes great drinks and is so knowledgeable of the menu! Definitely recommend checking it out for a fun night out.

John L.

Yelp
A decent bar on H Street. In retrospect I wish I had ordered something on the cocktail end because my Sam Adams Summer Ale tasted either A. very skunky or B. the waiter got me the wrong beer. It's a little dark in here too, so I recommend it more for hanging out versus things like dates. Overall seems like a cool place with a cool vibe, so I don't want to knock it badly, but the beer was definitely off.

Iron T.

Yelp
Very very loud. Almost annoying loud. Somewhat of a hip place. Seating is normal for the buildings on the rest of the street. The pour of the Tito's into their mules is more than fair. The food came out fast (just wings) they were normal nothing special. Each time I needed a another mule the bartender was right there. They have bartenders here not just beertenders.

Tuba B.

Yelp
One of my fav bars in the city. The wings are 10/10. Service is excellent. Best hidden gem on the block

Yelp
My coworker and I came to the Haymaker on a whim to unwind over cocktails and food. I was most impressed with the quality of service from the front of the house to servers. Annie our server was very attentive in making recommendations (BBQ pork sliders are AMAZING), making sure that our drinks were refilled/reordered in a timely manner, and general check ins. Not once did we have to ask for another drink. With a number of tables and persons at the bar she knew when our drinks were low and would offer a refill. It didn't feel overwhelming but it felt good to know that she was in tune with customer's needs. I believe that she works Wednesday and Friday :) Go say hello! There were two men working the front of the house and we were impressed by them as well. We had four small plates (rating in order of recommendations: BBQ sliders, pork+shrimp dumplings, truffle fries, wings) in two rounds. After finishing our first two plates they made sure that our dishes were cleared out and provided fresh napkins, utensils, and removing drinks. The music was loud but I'm getting older and that's the ambiance on a Friday I suppose haha. I will definitely be back!

Olivia R.

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood and finally came in to checkout Haymaker. The service was friendly and attentive and they made great recommendations on cocktails and food. I had the pork slides and truffle fries and ate them so fast because they were AMAZING! The cocktail I had was a "Wifey" and it was very light and refreshing. The atmosphere was great too, the lights were low and there was music but it wasn't so loud it made it hard to talk. I'll definitely be back!

Malu L.

Yelp
It has a cool vibe, dark and cozy. The food is outstanding for a bar, great cocktails and the bartenders are very nice and attentive here you won't be waiting forever for a glass of wine. The food menu could have more food options and also some desert.

Cameron B.

Yelp
I came here for a Friday night date night around 9:30pm. The place was pleasantly busy - a number of people at high top tables or at the bar but still a few open spots to sit. The vibe is nice, dimly lit upscale bar with cozy bar seating at a long granite top bar. The display of bottles across the back wall is great; add a nice light and sense of elegance to the place. I wouldn't mind if they turned up the lights a tad bit more though, it was awfully dim. They have a nice menu of drinks; we went with a few rounds of margaritas for $10 each. They were very well made! Just strong enough to warm your soul but still very tasty and easy to drink. Shoutout to our bartender for the great drinks and great service all night. The kitchen was being maintained by a guest chef or guest restaurant (I forget the name) that specialize in mexican cuisine. We ordered the beef empanadas ($8) and the birria loaded fries ($12). Both were DELICIOUS! But man, the aioli on the loaded fries were spicy...once we got past the aioli we really enjoyed the dish. Overall, a very nice DC bar that is great for a nice night out. Given their food and drink prices, expect to spend a pretty penny for the evening but that's all but expected in this part of DC.

Stephanie P.

Yelp
Stopped by here on a whim and I have to say these dumplings were amazing! The bar had a lot of open seating and a great atmosphere

Bronwyn E.

Yelp
Good bar for drinks and snacks! Cheap and casual great for afternoon and evenings. Great place to start off your night. The staff are awesome and make the place what it is!

Casey M.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday with a friend. The drinks tasted watered down. The food was good...if you live in silver spring - as in, it was not on DC-caliber. And there were NO happy hour specials. The server was great, the vibe was good, and location is wonderful. But all not enough for me to come back on a street full of bars.

Krista K.

Yelp
Great service, cool drink menu, and wide selection of different whiskeys and bourbons. Great atmosphere, too. Upscale but without being too pretentious and still cozy.

Liz N.

Yelp
Pre-pandemic, this place was one of the go to on H st for cocktails.. fast forward 3 years later, seems like lots of options on H st for cocktails.. but cocktails and birra tacos??? nowhere! the birra tacos pop up at Haymaker over the past few months has been outstanding. the tacos are small but pack such a strong punch.. even for take out the tacos remain crunchie. the service here is always impeccable.. looking forward to going back to the new normal so we can enjoy the bar service.

Yelp
Wondering if I went to same same place that the rest of these Yelpers went to. This place opened up in my neighborhood and I was pretty stoked to try it. I liked the atmosphere, small place but a cool environment. So, if you are looking to just grab a drink, this could be a good spot. However, if you are looking to eat---keep moving. Starter- Chickpea fritters with "hummus" and "curry" dips. This was kind of gross. I have no idea what the dips were, they were like 90% water and 10% curry and hummus. Would not recommend. Meals- Deluxe Grilled Cheese with sweet potato fries. For $11 and the word "deluxe" in the name, you are probably expecting a pretty killer grilled cheese. No, this was served on Wonder loaf bread. I think that is what shocked me the most, was the bread being truly the kind of bread you feed to the birds. Not saying this was bad, bc I mean, how bad can a grilled cheese be? I am just saying, you can make this at home and save the $11. Now the sweet potato fries--------DOPE. I really enjoyed them. They were the one thing here that I would get again. So, if you want a beer and a snack, this is a good spot. Haymaker Burger with tots- Nothing special. The menu here is very small. We tried 3 items and none were something we would order again. Put some heart into your food! Especially if you are only offering a smaller selection. Again tho--------sweet potato fries are delicious!! Sorry, Haymaker!! :(

Yelp
By far one of the chillest bars with the best staff I've ever been to! I'm from out of state and no bars in jersey that I've been to compares to this one. Vee the bartender was great and made me and a couple of friends some green tea shots that none of them actually ever heard of. Lol. He made it perfect and it went down so smooth. (I recommend getting that if you're not sure what to get). I also recommend getting the punch as well. It's so good. The food was to die for and they even accommodated us with lots of napkins and chopsticks as well since it was finger food. I personally think the grilled cheese and tots were phenomenal. The music that they played was super chill and the noise level wasn't too loud at all. You can actually have a conversation with the person that you're talking to without having to yell in their ear. Also the interior and ambiance of the whole place had a barn type feel to it which I totally dig. Great drinks, great staff, great food, 5 out of 5. I wish I can rate this bar higher but unfortunately yelp doesn't do that. Lol. Will most definitely be back to the haymaker when I'm back in town. Till next time!

Hilaria L.

Yelp
Amazing, amazing, amazing place on H street! Since the first time my boyfriend and I went to the bar, we were hooked. The burger is incredible and the drinks did not disappoint. Also, the bar service and service over all was excellent. I can't wait to go back!

Cheryl W.

Yelp
I stumbled into this place on my way home from Whole Foods one day, and it became a weekly routine for months. This place is everything you could want in a neighborhood bar. It's not too big, the owner is awesome, and on most day's it's not super crowded. This isn't a bad thing, it's just that I'm a mom so I take my getaways when I can, and right now that means late afternoon on a Sunday. If you're into Mezcal, please order the Mezcalita. It's their version of a spicy margarita. I basically order it everytime I go. One day, the owner gave my husband and I tater tots on the house 'cause he noticed we were working on our 4th round. I will admit that the off the menu drinks are a hit or miss depending on that day. If you're looking for a solid neighborhood bar with not a lot of frills, but nice staff, solid drinks and a cup of spicy cornnuts to nibble on while you wait for your cocktail and nibbles, you've found your place.

Justin C.

Yelp
This is just a cool spot on H Street. Both times I went, we grabbed a table where we could see a tv and still talk at the table. We were looking for a spot to chill and catch up and the Haymaker was perfect. The bartender (my bad at not shouting you out by name, but i don't think you told us) makes a good margarita. It was light and fresh tasting. I like the vertical salting he hooked up -- a lot easier to drink. He definitely knows how to mix and actually bartend. Major respect for caring about the craft and hooking us up. The bar, itself, is nice and comfortable with a sleek vibe. My brother said it used to be a nice restaurant and the owner(s) redesigned it with a new concept. It works. Final Words: Try it. We'll be back when I'm in D.C. again.

Gregory J.

Yelp
This bar was very nice, low key and friendly spot to enjoy drinks and bites with my friends. We went late on a Wednesday to watch the game and enjoyed the intimate vibe that was quiet enough to have great convo, but still had enough screens to enjoy the game. I enjoyed the old bay wings and ceases salad. They make a mean old fashion too!

Tyron H.

Yelp
After a laborious day of work and class, I decided to end the night with a cocktail. Fortunately, I stumbled across Haymaker, a small cozy bar that offers delectable food at a reasonable price. I ordered fried calamari, Korean bbq wings, and kale salad. Each dish was served in a timely manner and seasoned to perfection. The bartenders were attentive and eager to assist. I highly recommend this bar.

Doug S.

Yelp
This small bar packs a punch! I came here on a Friday to meet up with some friends and the place was packed. Yes it's a smaller bar with a narrow feel, but the bartenders are great. Beers are reasonable for D.C. prices (my Miller Lite was $5) Overall the ambiance was very chill, yet we were able to have loud conversations without disturbing anyone. I'll come back for sure considering my friends do cross fit just up the street. See you again soon!

Melanie C.

Yelp
the H street neighborhood bar search could end right here :) Super cute versatile bar that's perf for date night, girls night, football games, drinks after work, and foodies! They have a spectacular liquor selection and fun pop up style restaurants changing the menu up from time to time to keep things interesting! the food is always yum yum in my tum tum.

Cheron B.

Yelp
Nice for a quick happy hour or chill night out. We had the Hot Mess Tots to start (the sauce that comes with it is amazing!). Then the Korean wings and pork tacos. All food was hot and fresh, drinks gave us just the buzz we needed!

Michelle M.

Yelp
Drinks were great! Bartender and owner are super nice and friendly! A great neighborhood bar staffed by great people. This will continue to be my go to in the future!

Jimmy N.

Yelp
If you're on H street, this is the place to be. Been here couple times now and always had fun. Recently came here for my birthday and had more fun than I should've(didn't make it to the club) Everyone who works here are always nice and on point with what they're doing. The drinks are amazing and you can't beat the pricing. The food here is bomb! Gotta get the tots!

Andy L.

Yelp
To say the least, The Haymaker definitely left a great impression on me. Went there on St Patrick's day and had a blast with some friends. The staff was very accommodating and took great care of us. Vee, the bartender was on point with the drinks and very accommodating. Been looking for a bar that's not too loud with music so you can talk and also watch the game (March Madness Season). Also, the bar food they had there was delicious! Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

Jessica A.

Yelp
I believe this place is fairly now. I thought Haymaker was fine. Went with a few friends as we couldn't get into another place. I think the food items were a hit or miss. My friends ordered the wings and the grilled cheese and were very happy. I ordered the pork tacos and was very disappointed. I would go back for a drink, but may not be as inclined for food unless ordering wings or grilled cheese.

Don S.

Yelp
Best bar on H Street. The food is not five star (and thankfully not priced as 5 star either) but very solid and consistent. Try the wings and jalapeno poppers. The service is out of this world good. Drinks are great. The bar is clean and you can tell the owners and staff care about the business and its reputation. I'll be back early and often.

Tucker H.

Yelp
Yep, this is your go-to southern place in North East. It's definitely a cozy bar. Seats maybe 50 people in total, but they do everything right here. Bartender tells you grab a seat, puts on some football, hands ya a beer, and makes you feel right at home. The food is southern pub fare with a few extra items like salads and stuff. The real treat here are the finger foods though. Sliders made to perfection, and wings you can have dressed with a few cool types of sauces. Drinks are pretty solid here too. You've got your standard beers, a few locals from DC/VA, and some stiff cocktails that aren't too full-of-themselves. Again though, the hidden secret is the bourbon selection - all of the usual suspects are here along with some less common bottles that are worth trying. Of course, like most southern places the staff is really friendly. The cook came out and watched some football with us, and the bartender Todd is a super friendly guy from Texas who still thinks the Cowboys are a good football team. While I'm not in NE every day I at least know where I can find a decent honky-tonk where I won't starve or go without decent booze.

Danielle J.

Yelp
The haymaker provides a very cozy and intimate environment. My bartender Saig is beyond phenomenal. She provided great conversation, an amazing drink and overall a great experience Last but not least, the buffalo wings were amazing!!!

Ian S.

Yelp
Solid neighborhood bar, been here a handful of times with my gf and friends and it's always a good time. We've never had bad food or bad service here. It's a cool, calm place and you won't regret stopping by.

Marissa S.

Yelp
This place was a decent spot to grab some cheap food and a drink. I tried the grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries, which was maybe a bit better than your average bar food. I also had the Wifey cocktail, which was gin, elderflower and grapefruit - a tangy but tasty drink. Overall, it was a decent spot for a weeknight when we just wanted to grab some food and a drink, although the food did come a bit slower than I would have expected.

Sydney G.

Yelp
Love the drinks here! I had a rum punch the last time I came here that was so good, I'll be trying to copy the recipe at home.

Amy V.

Yelp
With respect to service, this is the best bar on H Street. Staff are friendly, remember you, and offer reliable, unpretentious charm. They also have late night food! On a number of occasions, they've given us free food/drinks or not let us pay when they knew we we're celebrating personal milestones. They treat regulars well, and are also welcoming to newcomers. It reminds us of the neighborhood vibe many H st bars had in the 00s.

Ashley E.

Yelp
First, I don't ever write reviews but after coming here I felt like I needed to let people know about this place! I had never heard about Haymaker but a friend of mine recommended we come check it out and I'm glad we did. I came with a group of friends on Friday night and since the bar was full we snagged a table and got cozy. First impressions is that this place is really clean and well maintained which is a plus. Food was really good (Hot mess tots!) ; simple yet tasty. Why I write this review though is mostly for the service. Hands down best service out of any bar I've been to in DC. Our bartender Chelsea was absolutely hilarious and made us all feel so welcome. Her energy was infectious and genuine, something you don't get from a lot of bartenders in DC unfortunately. You've gained regulars for life and we'll be sure to tell everyone we can about this hidden gem!

Carolyn P.

Yelp
A fun, small bar on H Street. Only stopped in for drinks and we picked a few specialty cocktails from the menu. The place was packed. We didn't eat anything but liked what we saw on the menu. Would be willing to stop back in for a snack and drink the next time we're in DC!

Chavon T.

Yelp
Shannon is an awesome bartender!! The Haymaker drink is the best! Also the haymaker burger and sweet potato fries are great. This was our first time here and it was great. We will be back!

Malin S.

Yelp
The Haymaker Bar is just what you want a neighborhood bar to be - friendly and cozy with great ambiance. It has a wonderful vibe to it. My husband and I came here with some friends a few months ago and had a great time. The food was fantastic and the drinks really impressed me. You can tell they take great pride in what they do. Our service was quick, yet relaxed (just what we wanted). We currently live on the other side of town, but wish we lived closer so we could visit this spot more frequently. We will definitely be back!! Thanks guys!

Mayura I.

Yelp
Small bar, nice vibes, very friendly staff and great drinks. As other reviews have mentioned, the mezcalita is a great spicy unique drink for mezcal drinkers, and the ginger mule was also delicious. Their food menu also has a lot of good options (I'd recommend the loaded tater tots), and their happy hour lasts until 8, which is great for people in DC with later or more unpredictable evening hours.

Lanette R.

Yelp
Sipping an Old Fashion. Perfect neighborhood bar. Diverse crowd. Sports on all the TV's. Surely coming back.

Katie H.

Yelp
We stayed at an Air BNB close to here so my husband and I took a walk and stumbled onto this place. The food was good (decent bar food) and the drinks were great! Perfect local atmosphere with a bit of a sports theme. But the best part was the service!! Our waiter was 100% on top of everything and it was such a great overall experience.
