Where to Eat at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) | Eater

"Helmed by chef Lynn Crawford and centered around a large hearth, the menu highlights hearth-made flatbreads (such as mushroom and leek with Parmesan bechamel) alongside Canadian comfort classics like Montreal-style poutine, Fogo Island fish and chips, and old-school spaghetti and meatballs." - Tiffany Leigh

I had an early breakfast at The Hearth before my flight out of Pearson. The location was very convenient — just steps away from my gate. The food was good, freshly made, and the price was fair, especially by airport standards. Service was efficient, and it made for a smooth, stress-free start to the day. A solid option if you’re looking for a decent meal before your flight.

Google
I rarely give low reviews, I take many things into consideration when I review … so here we go Located at Terminal 1 at Pearson International Airport in Toronto, I came in here here before my flight, it was the least busiest so this is the main reason I came in here. My server, immediately came with a negative energy. Dismissive and appeared “checked out” — maybe it was a long day for her. I gave her my order she left. I asked for a ginger ale that was flat, when I asked her for a new one she said “there’s nothing they can do so you might as well order water” — so I did. She seemed annoyed. My soup wasn’t hot, it was at best lukewarm. I didn’t mention anything to her as her energy was just off to me. Then I ordered the meatball appetizer and it was also lukewarm to cool. Clearly not the servers fault so I said nothing because i honestly didn’t want to deal with her. For tipping her, she seemed annoyed that I had the checkout terminal in my hand too long. While the food wasn’t good and it was cold, the server just made the experience that much worse. I will not eat here again

Google
other reviews aren’t as positive but we had a great experience! food came out quickly, good serving sizes, hot fries and food. our server was Enima and she was friendly and helpful. would stop again! i got the fish and chips- well cooked and great texture.

Google
The only reason for the one star was because our server was very sweet. The food was cold, greasy and felt like they microwaved their chicken on salads instead of making a good grilled chicken. We ordered a poutine and a chicken burger and that was stale and lacked flavour, the fries were so hard and cold you can barely eat it, I had to send it back. The sauce on the poutine was also terrible with the cheese curds not melting properly. This place should not be serving food if they aren’t going to make it good. They should just stick to drinks, especially because they charge quite a bit for the food. We finished the best we can because we didn’t want to waste , don’t recommend to go. Stick with the Starbucks or booster juice!

Google
Busy spot because it serves real food. I had the braised beef gnocchi, and it was absolutely delicious. 5 stars all the way on this dish. My friend ordered the burger wich unfortunately had a hair in it. It was dealt with professionally. These things can happen. But gross. And it did effect my rating.

We are going to New York via Toronto. Wait for boarding we come to the Hearth for some drink and food! Waitress said the chef is very famous in cook and teach cooking. Chef Lynn Crawford is a fame chef in Ontario Canada. We are very lucky to have the cuisine from her store. The food is really delicacy. Our experience is wonderful!

Google
Really great airport option to get real food. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks, the meatball appetizer, and the pesto. Everything was good and it was a great food to eat before a flight.

Google
This is the kind of place you go to when you’re hungry and want a full sit-down meal at the airport and got time to kill. The server that we had certainly reinforced that idea and gave off this impression of not having high expectations for the place. Water took a while and he clearly forgot about us with the expression on his face when I was looking at him across the restaurant. I ordered a beer and he said that was not available anymore. When I asked what was available, he said, “Just tell me what you want and then I’ll tell you because I don’t remember.” So that’s the kind of place this is. Tables are pretty close together to get as many people in as possible which sucks if you have luggage and bags, which is everyone at an airport. Food is fine if you use the condiments on the table.

Yelp
I visited here since I had plenty of time before my flight. I immediately noticed a ton of customers already seated and I was still able to be seated within about 2 minutes. The menu here is small and they have some healthy apps, flat breads, salads, sandwiches, and small plates. Most of the plates come with French fries. This was my last meal in Canada, and I needed to try a burger. Not the ideal place to try a burger, but at this point it was my only option. The burger was passable and not very memorable other than that. I may have been better off ordering something else, but I can leave that for next time. Service was again fairly quick, which is nice to have in a sit down restaurant at the airport as most customers are short on time.

Yelp
This was my second time dining at Hearth. It is right at the entrance of Concourse F after border security clearance. Pretty large space, got a big bar in the middle. It is the only full dining restaurant in the section, so it is always packed. The menu is short with limited appetizers and entrees. This time I got the salmon. It took a while for the food to come out, but it was well prepared. My Sprite had no fizz and tasted like bland sugar water. Both times I experienced ordinary service here. The waiter came, took my order, brought my food, and gave me the check.

Elaine K.

Yelp
Service was average but the food was extreme underwhelming. The hollandaise of the eggs Benny did not taste good. The fries were ok. The cappuccino was also mediocre barely any coffee flavour. Would not recommended.
google avatar

Darlene Y.

Yelp
For an airport restaurant with limited options, The Hearth isn't terrible. If you're looking for something light, I'd recommend the HUMMUS TRIO. I wasn't hungry enough for a full meal, but the flatbreads and pastas definitely looked promising. ENJOY!

Yelp
We had a great meal at the airport before flying home from Toronto. One very last poutine, peameal Canadian ham sandwich, and a flatbread pizza. The poutine was delicious with a great mix of curds and gravy on fresh fries. It was nice to finally try a Canadian ham sandwich since we ran out of time on this trip. The flatbread pizza was almost like a salad with a lots of rocket/arugula on top. Overall we had a nice meal here during our 2 hours wait for our flight. We actually sat a little longer because our flight was delayed by 30 mins and our waitress did not rush us at all.
google avatar

Rob G.

Yelp
A great spot if you need a decent meal before a flight to the US. On this layover, on Canada Day, I enjoyed their heaping plate of poutine. Well made, great mix of curds and gravy on fresh fries. Service was excellent. Our waiter did not push us too quickly and let us enjoy our meal at pace while we waited for our flight. Extra bonus points for having Henderson Brewery's Rush beer on tap!

Yelp
Was trying to find a decent restaurant to enjoy in Pearson airport during my 2 hour wait. I got this from a recommendation from an airline employee, who was the nicest and patient with me as I spent a lot of time with trying to figure out how to change my plane to an earlier flight, another story there! Hence my 2 hour wait at the airport!! He suggested The Hearth so I walked over to this restaurant, located next to the duty free. There was a short line when I arrived, definitely the busiest spot. However I was seated within minutes. Despite restaurant was busy, my server was attentive. She apologized several times as when I asked for sparkling water it took a while to arrive and same with the check, however I had plenty of time, told her it wasn't a big deal. I could not order a lot of items on the menu as I was looking for someone healthy, they had cauliflower but it was fried! What's the point of eating cauliflower when it's fried?! I finally ordered the spinach salad with salmon. She even made sure I got this balsamic dressing, which was delicious. Overall, food was ok. Restaurant can get very busy so definitely budget time. If you are looking for a quick service, this may not be the best spot.
google avatar

Benay K.

Yelp
Meh. Hostess is unfriendly and unwelcoming. Waiter(Rahul) was very friendly. He told me my meal would take 20 minutes and it did. Unfortunately I could not get the check for another 25 minutes, I almost needed to dine and dash in order to catch my flight. I had to wave down two servers to get someone to let him know I needed to go. I ordered the maple salmon $35 it was Hard, dry and really needed tgat sauce to make it edible. The asparagus stalks were actually cold.

Yelp
Good place that is located inside Toronto airport. It's a casual restaurant with tv monitors to watch the news or sports. The menu is offers a variety of foods to choose from to meet different tastes. The western omelet was very delicious. It's made with ham, green and red peppers, and cheese. The red potatoes were okay. A little dry but still tasty. The bacon was cooked to perfection. All of this good food washed down with a latte. Malik, our waiter, was attentive, pleasant, and efficient with bringing items to the table. Food prices are reasonable, especially when considering paying in CAD and your credit card converts it to USD. If you're in Toronto airport, you definitely want to give this place a try.
google avatar

Cindy G.

Yelp
With a 5 hour layover, we ate here. Food came out pretty quickly and the tomato soup was hot and full of vegetables. Chairs were comfy. Staff was attentive.
google avatar

Shereen C.

Yelp
I was at The Hearth last year and the food was okay. There aren't a lot of choices at the airport. The fish and chips was edible but disappointing, not cooked well. Beet salad was better. Someone at the next table got food (maybe some kind of appetizer with a red sauce) that may have looked better. I'm not sure if the fish and chips were especially bad.
google avatar

Mary H.

Yelp
There's not much to choose from at this end of the airport, so we waited about 10 minutes for a table, which wasn't bad. Our server was attentive and took our drink order almost immediately. We ordered the beet salad and the gnocchi with braised short rib. Both were good, the gnocchi was a little over cooked but the taste was great. Comfort food! Ambiance is crowded and loud, but it's a busy airport. I would eat here again on my next flight through.
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Amazingly good food for an airport restaurant. Too expensive but that is airport food in general. The chicken sandwich was crispy and juicy and better than one I had in town.
google avatar

Sarah F.

Yelp
This place was so disappointing. The cappuccino was watery my French toast was burnt and just didn't taste good. Everything was so ridiculously overpriced and the service was slow. I would absolutely not recommend this restaurant nor would I eat here again. I did not have high hopes for it to begin with since it's in an airport, but it was even worse than I'd expected.
google avatar

Dara B.

Yelp
It was a busy morning. I had time before my flight and was hungry, so I decided to have breakfast. I have to give props to the servers. They were really friendly and attentive, taking orders, bringing out food, getting the bill, and cleaning up. I ordered the breakfast platter, and yes, it was cold and okay tasting. I was not expecting much anyway. I have been to many similar airport restaurants.
google avatar

Margie L.

Yelp
went here before our flight,it's one of the sit down restaurants in the airport, this place is very busy but we got seated right away, the staff are friendly but or order took at least 25 mins,it's ok since we have time to wait, food is good and delicious,it has a generous portion.
google avatar

Erica L.

Yelp
Should have checked Yelp first. It is overpriced and not amazing. The hummus olive pita plate is $17 and mediocre. The fish and chips aren't very good. The fries aren't that crispy and the fish has a gummy outer fried soggy bag. The pea meal burger which sounds bizarre was the surprise: it's actually several layers of Canadian bacon nicely pan fried until a little crispy and with a good mayo tomato and lettuce and brioche. The salad is flavorful and fresh, with lettuce tomato red and green peppers and cucumber. If I came back, I'd get that again. Service was fine.
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
Not bad for an airport. We both got flatbreads, which were tasty, but could have used a bit more sauce rather than just being cheese/toppings/crust - especially the cheese flatbread which didn't have any toppings. Service was good, and considering the limited options in the American pre-clearance section of YYZ, not a bad option for a meal before a flight - especially if you're flying Air Canada and will be delayed for hours.
google avatar

Yelp
We grabbed some lunch at The Hearth by Chef Lynn Crawford before our flight. It was good for airport dining and I enjoyed every bite of the burger even though it didn't look like much. I had the Hearth Bacon Cheeseburger ($22 CAD), served medium well with bacon, aged Canadian cheddar, special sauce, lettuce, tomato & pickles. I had fries as my side but you could also do a salad. I personally thought the service was extremely slow and you couldn't catch our server but she was friendly when we interacted. It was kind of like she was on auto pilot and it took forever to get the check and then she had to go back to correct it which took even longer. Not sure what was going on this day (maybe a lot of tables, etc.) but It was ok, and the burger was good. I was really happy we walked back up from our gate to eat here over the other options. It's a good choice if you find yourself in Terminal 1, F gates.

Yelp
A really decent and tasty airport restaurant. Customer service was fast and friendly and the food was very good! Poutine was better than we expected. A great option for a layover :)

Yelp
We are waiting for a connecting flight and want to take a quick bite. We choose This one as it is quite central. We ordered soup and pasta. Airport food is usually pretty bad, expensive and mediocre service But this one food is surprisingly good, price reasonable and Service is good and efficient.

Yelp
Wow, what a great place! And in an airport of all places. From the time we arrived (they gave us a window table without even asking) till the time we left, this was an excellent experience. Our server, Susy, was super friendly and gave us some great recommendations. We went with Angry Orchard cider, the haddock and poutine plate, and cheesecake. Everything was outstanding, the fish flaky inside, crispy on the outside. The fries, cheese curds, and gravy were perfect. The bar in the center looks very cool. Highly recommended. Looking forward to another meal here!
google avatar

Cyndie C.

Yelp
Had lunch while waiting for a delayed flight. Soup tasted like it came from a can. My burger was lukewarm. The service was helpful, friendly, and attentive. Overpriced as are all airport restaurants. Good beer. Made us pay for bottled water .
google avatar

Joan D.

Yelp
I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of food here! The service was also friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend when you are waiting for a delayed plane.

Yelp
Located in the F gates (flights to the US) of Toronto Airport, there's only a few restaurants. It bears the name of a popular Canadian chef, Lynn Crawford. But before you get excited, set your expectations really low because I didn't and I was super disappointed. The menu is very limited. You'd think with a small menu, the dishes are the ones they've perfected. Nope! I ordered a burger and instead of fries, I got poutine because Canada. The burger was cooked medium-well and was dry AF and that's how they cook it. The poutine was pretty good. When I'm fighting back tears as I force myself to eat - it's bad! I could only finish half of my meal - it was a struggle. The highlight of my meal was the iced tea - I got full off of that. My server was great. He covered a huge area but I didn't feel like he forgot about me. I think his name was Moukash. He's the only reason for the 2nd star. I would've been better off with a McDonald's.

Yelp
Good for pub style restaurant at Pearson, service was friendly, food came out fast, and meal was good
google avatar

Steve N.

Yelp
Came in for an early breakfast after entering the USA area of the airport. We ordered two homestead breakfasts; one with bacon, two over easy eggs, sourdough toast and French Fries and the other with sausage and poached eggs. We also had coffee. For an airport breakfast, it was as expected, expensive and mediocre. Not a fan for French Fries at breakfast.
google avatar

Linda D.

Yelp
Good felafel salad with salmon Would return if back at airport. Good service. Reasonable airport food.
google avatar

Cynthia V.

Yelp
As one of the few sit-down options in the terminal, this place was quite busy. However, our party of 3 was able to be seated. It is cramped, but we were able to settle in to our area once seated with enough room for our carry on baggage. The menu is pretty limited, but everyone was able to find something to fit their taste. I opted for their chicken sandwich and it was surprisingly flavorful. Service left something to be desired, but that can be expected given how busy the place was. Wish the place felt a bit cleaner, but it was certainly lacking on the cleanliness front.
google avatar

Sunil R.

Yelp
Pretty decent food for an airport. Small menu. The chicken sandwich and meatballs were pretty good.
google avatar

Brian K.

Yelp
Good hamburger and fries. Service was a bit too slow for an airport restaurant where so many have flights to catch but I would eat here again if I had time
google avatar

Erica G.

Yelp
Super awesome choices on the menu and the food is great! Everyone is always looking for a good place to stop before their flight and this little gem is perfect!

Yelp
I fought my boyfriend on going out to eat in the airport but OMG the food was AMAZING and to say I was wrong is an understatement. He got the short ribs, I got pasta with pesto and grilled chicken and we split the Putin!! It was soooo good, I recommend trying it if you have a chance!
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Im not agreeing with many of the low reviews. Been traveling out of Pearson US side for several years and I enjoy this place for breakfast. My personal favorite is the back bacon breakfast sandwich. Always hits the spot and tastes great. Find the staff to be most helpful and super friendly. I'd rather spend time there before my departure than the AC Lounge :)
google avatar

Yelp
Worry-Free Dining at the Airport!! I often travel for business out the gates near The Hearth. I eat have eaten here a few times and always have a worry-free experience. What I like about the Hearth is that they change up the menu every few months, so there are new items to try. On most visits, I'm seated quickly, the server comes to my table quickly and the food comes out fairly fast. I'm not always looking for Michelin Star quality when I'm travelling, just food that's good quality and of course tastes good. I have tried the burgers, the chicken sandwiches and salads, and always for the most part the food is pretty good. If you are at Terminal One and want something to eat before heading to the sometimes distant F-Gates then give the Hearth a shot. I haven't tried everything but so far I haven't eaten anything I didn't like, my advice is always with airport restaurants, stick to what you like and you should be okay. In terms of pricing, just like any other airport, the food costs are above average compared to restaurants outside an airport but on par with higher-priced hotel meals.
google avatar

Jon C.

Yelp
Service, polite but a lacking. Didn't show up for a while, when they did it was polite. But it's just the wait. And not all tables were full. I had fish and chips, there was a bone in it. Has never happened before. Maybe the fish is more fresh than expected but a bone? The drinks, average.

Sam D.

Yelp
I had an excellent experience here, not sure why the rating is so low. The food was soooo delicious, highly recommend the maple salmon dish! We were able to finish lunch and make it to our flight without issue. Service was great, no complaints. It is very busy since it seems like the only restaurant that's close by but if you have at least an hour before your flight then I recommend stopping by! It's a restaurant in an airport at the end of the day, they know everyone is in somewhat of a rush to make their flights so I feel the issue with many of the negative reviews may be that those people just don't have enough time for a sit down meal and that shouldn't be a reflection on the restaurant itself. Personally, I wouldn't sit down for a meal at an airport unless I have over an hour and a half to kill... just my opinion! I loved the food.
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
Service is extremely poor. Took forever to get seated, many people waiting with empty tables and servers chatting to one another instead of sitting people and taking orders. Should have left then as this dining experience only got worse. Another 10 minutes before someone took my order- I had to interrupt the servers' personal discussion to get my order put in. You'd thought they would apologize, but not these folks, just huffed and puffed like the wolf from the 3 little pigs. Long story long, don't go here. The food is not worth the wait. BTW all I could hear was everyone volunteering to go home. Close this place and let them all go home.
google avatar

Yelp
Our final place we ate eat before leaving Canada. We had to eat, there were only a few options.... and so we ate here. The food was ok, but overpriced. They know that you're hungry, and don't have many options. So they can up the prices, like most airports. Portions were great size though!

Gabie R.

Yelp
This was honestly the best airport food I've ever had, and even besides being airport food, was quite good quality. I got the fish and chips and the fish was fresh and perfectly crispy. The tartar sauce was very tasty with the right amount of tang. My husband got the burger and he said he was surprised at the quality. Our meal all together only took 40 mins, and the place was packed. There wasn't a single empty table. Our waitress, susy, was on it, making sure our waters were filled and bringing us refills of sauce as we requested it.

David K.

Yelp
Needed to catch a meal between flights. Had the mushroom shawarma mini flatbread which was fantastic. Generous topping and seasoned very well. Would go back next time I'm in Toronto

James B.

Yelp
I literally just order my food. I figured a I would write a review before I get served my food. I don't care if it is amazing! 2 stars why? well lol... I walked up to the hostess, she just stared at me for two seconds, I said hello, how are you doing? she said nothing for about five seconds, but then she said, just one today? I said yes and then she started to walk me to a table. during the short walk I asked how are you doing today. silence, I waited until we got to the table and I asked again, how are you doing today? defensively, she said, Why? I reply, I'm just trying to be polite. then she walked off! I found her service so rude it made me laugh! I am hoping the food is better than the introduction!

Yelp
Solid. Consistent. I'm come here a lot (just earned the "duke" badge for the location). Food here is consistently solid and it's the best dining option in Terminal 1 Go to's are the meatball appetizer which is huge with 4 balls and 4 pieces of bread. Other consistent winner is the cod fish and chips. Although i wished we could upsize it for more fish and that it was halibut instead of cod.

Yelp
September 8th, I was finally flying out to Louisville (via DC) from Toronto. I was hungry and I had about an hour until my flight, but as with most airports, there weren't a lot of exciting food options in my terminal, and I chose the Hearth. I was worried that I didn't have enough time to eat, but the server assured me that they could get me in and out within the hour, and she was true to her word -- the service was quick and efficient. The menu was pretty basic, and as with all airport restaurants, prices were high; however, the food was surprisingly delicious (airport food is generally not very good). I ordered a 9 oz glass of Jackson-Triggs Cabernet Franc (at the painful price of $15), and a cheeseburger ($22). I know that the Hearth isn't really a five star restaurant, but I had a five star experience. The burger was delicious and the service was excellent -- a 25% tip! While the bill was steep, at least I left happy and satisfied, and a little tipsy. [Yelp collections: Toronto/Niagara Falls 2021]

Yelp
Finding my connecting flight *unexpectedly adjusted* by Air Canada, I stopped here for a layover meal. I had the Chicken Caesar Salad and a Canadian dry cider. The cider and salad were enough to satiate me without feeling bloated. Airport food gonna airport food, but I found myself finishing the entire salad. The chicken and bacon were tasty! The service was great as well. I passed a nice hour here and found many others doing the same.

Yelp
Leaving Toronto at the god forsaken hour of 5AM meant I was likely not in full possession of my faculties when I slinked into this breakfast spot en route to my gate. And where the hell are my faculties anyway? I must've been miffed that I had to skip the complimentary breakfast at my hotel, so I was clearly seeking revenge through my paltry expense report by getting breakfast in an almost completely empty restaurant. Gratefully I didn't go nuts with my order though. I just went for the $11 Steelcut Oat Porridge, which was basically a medium-size crock of watery, overmicrowaved oatmeal accompanied by little side servings of dark brown sugar and theoretically steamed milk (it was straight out of the fridge). According to the menu, it was supposed to come with an "apple & cranberries compote" but actually came with two wedges of baked apple (photo: http://bit.ly/2SnV3Cz). I may have been half-asleep, but even Goldilocks would've asked for a Zantac. FOOD - 2 stars...porridge even Goldilocks would find hard to stomach AMBIANCE - 2.5 stars...it's the airport SERVICE - 2.5 stars...not much enthusiasm at that hour TOTAL - 2 stars..."Someone's been eating my porridge!"...not me RELATED - Traveling to Toronto? Yelp
I had the cheese burger and it was very good. The service was fast and friendly. Impressive for an airport restaurant.

Yelp
I rarely eat a meal at Pearson International Airport. I normally eat before I head to the airport. I deviated from my usual and didn't feel like grabbing a quick sandwich. I was in Terminal 1, heading to Minneapolis. My flight was boarding at gate F60. Steps away from it is The Hearth, which is by Chef Lynn Crawford. I have seen her cook on TV. I have yet to visit her restaurant in Toronto. I knew that heading here would be the closest that I would get to eating her dishes. I had over an hour to kill before boarding my flight. I took a chance at headed over here. I waited at the empty podium. A woman came over fairly promptly and got me a table. I got food and booze menus. The woman sitting at the table next to me was downing spaghetti bolognese. It looked so good! I had had that the night before. There was mac and cheese on the menu. Again, I had had that recently, too. Ah, ha! Fish tacos. I have not had those. Done! I ordered a Diet Coke and fish tacos. My drink came immediately. This place does not provide straws. I learned about that when a whiny teenager next to me asked a server twice for a straw before the server indicated that the restaurant does not have any. My server asked if I wanted another Diet Coke. I passed on it. The last thing that I need is to empty my bladder often before, during, and after my flight! My fish tacos came out. They were scrumptious. The batter was light and crispy. The cod was fresh and flaky. The carrot and cabbage coleslaw was amazing with the chipotle mayo. So flavourful! I had the option of getting fries or a side salad as my side. I went with the latter. I have no idea what the dressing was, but it was delicious and was slightly citrusy (word?). The greens were crispy and yummy. I devoured my entire meal. My meal totalled $24 before tip. For the quality and taste, it was acceptable for airport food. I paid using a credit card. The transaction was smooth. I'd come back here again. I was dining here for just under an hour, which matters when you need to catch a flight. (488)

Yelp
Most people in Pearson airport are in the terminal to catch a flight and would not risk missing a flight. I am sure restaurant owners are aware of it. Worst service ever; zero star. Waited for 30 minutes for the waitress to approach our table but she wouldn't even make any eye contact with us while happily chatting with the people by the table next to ours (who already paid their tabs), knowing that there are other customers waiting to be served. Left the restaurant, certain that we will not be served prior to boarding our flight. Very disappointing experience! Note to Management: please retrain your oblivious waitstaff ! ! !
