"Originally opened as the "Sweet Home Chicago Heartland Café" the Heartland cafe is an unabashedly eclectic joint featuring a range of (mostly) vegetarian options, live music, and a small grocery store featuring organic fruits and vegetables and locally sourced, hormone free meats. This neighborhood restaurant and bar has been been a staple for generations and doesn't seem to be going anywhere soon. Also be sure to check out the Miles of Murals just outside it's doors." - Sidekick Video

"The building that housed Heartland Cafe, a community beacon of music, art, political activism, and food and drink in Rogers Park, is no more. Crews began tearing down the 42-year-old cafe at 7000 N. Glenwood Avenue yesterday, eliciting sadness from the public and local media alike." - Daniel Gerzina

I love this place - my neighborhood's music venue. I live a couple of blocks away, and find myself coming to see countess shows here. I've seen so many good shows here, from Wussy, to Grant from Husker Du, Andre Williams and so many more, and I am really looking forward to seeing the Supersuckers and White Mystery this month - so much, I changed my holiday plans to See White Mystery They've got a killer whiskey selection, some really good beers and even better drink specials.. I miss the Ike Turner - at least watching folks get it...

Great bar and live music venue. They have some good specials too, the most notorious of which is an Ike Turner. Just go ahead and get one if you want the full experience. Bartender is really friendly. When he poured me a beer in a cup and saw my skeptical look as to whether it was actually a pint, he was happy to show me that it was by pouring a cup of water into a pint glass. I like when customer service goes above and beyond.

Talk about your classic "dive" of a bar! I took my girlfriend here as her first bar experience and she loved it! It may not be fancy but that is what you have to embrace about it. They have amazing specials every day of the week. "Wasted Wednesdays" are great with their 1 dollar Budweiser on tap! Another great thing about this place is the community. There is a huge group of regulars in this area and if you get hungry go down the street to the cafe. Redline also has a frequent showcase of live local music and it makes for a very active atmosphere. If you are a student just show your ID and you get in for free, if not it is a 5 dollar entry fee for music nights. There is also a nice pool table so you can shoot some stick while getting your mingle on!

I totally love this place - best whiskey selection in a music venue I have seen, and I love me some whiskey! There's live music almost every night, and I gotta get my band in to play there - sound in there is awesome. I however, will not be getting the Ike Turner, Thanks, but no.

It is not a cafe any longer. Now only the event space is open. There is a long bar, then there is a curtained off event space, equally as long as the bar and about 12 seats deep. The stage is small and us elevated about one foot. The sound person is in the back. Great space for the story telling events I saw there. A small but workable space. There were chairs only towards the front and there were tables towards the back.

If I lived around the corner I might be a regular at this dive, which features cheap beers and dinner from the restaurant next door. Instead, I came for one of the live concerts starting a couple of country guys, playing in front of a small but enthusiastic crowd on a weeknight. And if I didn't have to work the next morning, I'd probably stay until the wee hours of the morning, which I'm sure happens to many each week.

No pretext. This place is a dive, but in the best possible way. The people here are some of the most genuine and most engaging people. They have every type of live music for every type of person. From regge to metal to open mic, to punk, to techno. You name it they have a night for it., And you can actually influence who you want to play there. If you go there GET AN IKE TURNER. and buy one from KEELEY!!!!!

Cool place near my house with one of the best whiskey selections I've ever seen in a kinda rock, kinda country dive bar music venue. I pretty much love all of the music they book here, except that f'n rap crap, but, the place is packed when they do. I've gotten to see some killer shows here - and if they keep bringing in these killer bands, I'll keep coming. Micki and Brettly are awesome bartenders, and always treat me well, and I've never had any issues with the patrons, hippies, hipsters and rockers all in the same place and getting along...... with the exception of the small and f'd up bathrooms, this place rules
