The Heights

The Oatmeal Pancakes were awesome. The biscuits and gravy were a strong second. Everything else is worth the visit. My girlfriend’s burger was overcooked as well as her fries and the pineapple cocktail was just awful, almost like the bartender left out a couple of ingredients. Our waitress was sweet but just missed on a few things. For instance, I ordered bacon as a side and got sausage. I ordered a side of grits, no spoon. We wanted to try the pancakes but she had to be reminded. Small issues but enough to lower the rating. I suspect this place is better than we experienced, so I do encourage all to try it. The pancakes alone are worth the trip.

Tough to leave this review. Great cooks and servers. Been a staple of mine for the last 6 years. Problem is shrinkflation in the form of tiny portion sizes. Just increases prices. I even asked them to check the portion during phone call order to confirm it was to expected sizing. Getting home to a tiny pot roast brisket serving is disappointing.

Although it might often be said that the experience as a whole comes from the food, service, and atmosphere, I might add that it is in the smaller details that the experience is formed and written in the heart of that little moment & in the places we never knew were there. A table that wobbled for just a split second the witty addition and mention of the San Andreas fault line, the humility and kindness of a servant's heart to adjust for us such a moment as this, will never be forgotten. There are treasures in this world so easily missed, and some found where we are not looking. Tom (not even our server) The Heights, the ambiance, the company there. All wonderful and beautiful without any imperfection. Our experience was far beyond the limitation of just 5 stars or even a 10/10. It was perfect. Thank you for an evening not so easily forgotten. Chef Karen is serving up some of the best comfort food in Dallas. DELICIOUS. We live in the neighborhood and are so happy to have this local treasure. Chef K has a gift for chicken pot pie, pork chop mashed potatoes and perfectly cooked green beans, shrimp Louie sandwich, Mac and cheese… it’s all delicious. Atmosphere is friendly and service is GREAT! Love this place.

Solid cocktails, dry rubbed wings were excellent as were the entrees. Highly recommend.

The food is always amazing, atmosphere great, but the service turned exceptional the last time I was there. I was put in a dangerous situation, and they truly came to my rescue. I can’t thank them enough and I don’t want to imagine the way the night could have gone without them. Saying I was treated like family doesn’t even describe the care and concern I received. I know this may not apply to most customers, but wanted to call attention to the difference they made!

The Heights has been our go to for years, so much that we bring people from out of town there. We usually love it, but Friday night was disappointing. We ordered the special which was skirt steak at $26 a plate. We ordered an appetizer, and it took a while. I realize they were busy, but it wasn't overwhelming. The entrees took a while too, and when we finally got them, the steak was cold. The mashed potatoes were cold. In addition, it was a super thin piece of steak which lacked flavor. It was not a typical hearty flavorful portion they usually serve. We told our waiter, and he didn't say much. Some people at the table didn't even eat theirs because it was cold. We ordered a drink after dinner, and he gave us one drink as compensation, but that was it. Sadly, we won't be back.

Great old school cozy ambiance, hearty food at a reasonable price point. Our excellent server, Brandon, surprised us with two complimentary desserts. All in all a brilliant evening out.

No better place than the Heights in East Dallas (Lakewood) if you want a great neighborhood vibe with quality cocktails and great food. The Heights has been an anchor in Lakewood for almost 10 years now. @theheightslw Go see Alex for a well crafted cocktail and Chef Karin for consistently great fare. Chef Karin is the former chef from the Grape which was an East Dallas staple forever. The owners have a love for music and always have an eclectic mix to create the right vibe. We enjoyed a couple of staples shown in the pictures. You can't go wrong with either a Sidecar or Manhattan.

My wife had the tacos and I had the potato hash. The food was delicious without question. The young girl who sat us was very nice and pleasant and the waitress nice. Also, this should have been a five star review, so why is it four star review? Coffee. Not once did they offer to refill my coffee. In fact, when they came to clear my plate, I had to tell them they could only have my plate if they give me a cup of coffee.

Migas are superbly delicious. Coffees and others are also good. Services from waiters and waitresses were awesome as well

We're regulars. Pretty much have had a very thing on the menu. Tonight was the burger, grilled wedge, steak frites, & mussels. All excellent. Never disappoints.

A weekly staple for us. If we're not there for Sunday breakfast, then we're there for dinner at some point. Everything is always consistent and full of flavor. They truly care about the service and food they put out. From a regular, here's what I would order: - toasted oatmeal pancakes with sausage - potato hash - burger - DEVILED EGGS (I dream about them) - pot roast

This was our worst Heights nights ever, a very unusual state of affairs. We have been and will continue to be neighborhood regulars, but will never replicate tonight's order, absent assurances that the issues we encountered have been addressed and corrected. We both got the chicken pot pie, a beautifully conceived but poorly executed dish, a bowl of what is essentially chicken pot pie stew topped with a jalapeno biscuit, beautifully presented. This dish was ruined by a, almost half full bowl of the driest, toughest chunks of white meat chicken I have ever tasted, which made the other well executed components of the dish difficult to enjoy. Request to owner-management: please use dark meat chicken in this dish, properly cooked, so the protein component of this entree is as moist, tender, and enjoyable as everything else in the bowl.

My boyfriend and I dined at The Heights on a Friday night. The ambiance was great for date night - music going and a nice vibe without being too loud to enjoy conversation. We had the deviled eggs for a started, then The Heights Burger & Steak Frites for our entrees. Everything was delicious! These might be some of my favorite deviled eggs, the sriracha dollop really added a flavor profile that this dish sometimes lacks. Our server was very attentive and made great recommendations for bars that were walking distance after we finished dinner to keep the night going. This is a spot we will likely be back to... hopefully for one of their weekend brunches because their menu looks great.

Loved it! Thank you to our waitress and all the support of the staff! We enjoyed ourself! Yummy food and freshness all over! Good for brunch and togo' ordered my meal togo and it did not disappoint'. They accommodated our party! Let us have good time' a few spilled glasses ...due to some fun and they never made us feel like we had to go' cheers to the birthday girl! Woot Woot!

Great food. Probably the best pot roast in town. It's a small place, more like a bar than a restaurant, and it gets crowded- but I've always been able to get a table.

My love for The Heights has deepened with time. The food is always spot on. The service is always attentive. The specials are always special. The martinis are always made with care. I seriously love the mussels and have a hard time ordering anything else here. I usually get them with a 1/2 Caesar salad (yes, you can do half orders here). The soups are fantastic too. This is where I take out-of-town friends to give them a most authentic "slice of life" experience of my East Dallas community!

I love to cook and eat. If you're a pork chop fan you must have their pork chop. It feeds your soul. Chef Karen was a previous chef at the Grape so you know the food is amazing. Alex the bar tender knows his peps. The neighbors watering hole does not disappoint. If what a great meal, with a neighborhood vibe check out the heights. It's a small place not that many tables but it is home.

Love love love this restaurant. I eat here whenever I'm in the Lakewood area. The Steak Frites and the deviled eggs are my personal go to. The Cesar salad and the Max & cheese where had by my companion. Mac & cheese was perfect. Not super runny but not to thick and the perfect amount of crumb. My Steak Frites was absolutely delish. Steak was cooked to perfection and the roasted potatoes were were well seasoned. The apple side salad was a great balance of sweet to the savory flavors. And the deviled eggs are a great starter. They have slight kick as a finish from the dollop of Sriracha. Overall a great menu. We had to take dessert to go because we were so full from dinner. This is a definite must try if you are in the Lakewood area.

My husband and I came here for New Year's Eve unexpectedly, and we had the most amazing time! Our server, Tom, was so personable, and made us feel really special from the moment that we walked into the restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious. The vegetables were the best that I've had in a long time, and my husband says they had the best french fries he's ever had. We love this little neighborhood place, and will definitely be coming back very often.

Tried The Heights for the first time. OMG. This place was wonderful. We ordered the pork chop dinner and the Heights hamburger. Highly recommend this to all. We will definitely be going back.

Came here after trying to find a late brunch spot after mass and after seeing great reviews. Quaint place with both indoor and outdoor seating (dog-friendly). The interior is kind of squishy with jam packed tables. We got the Heights burger and the oatmeal pancakes. The burger was alright, but the pancakes were amazing! Nice crispy, toasted oats paired with fluffy pancakes and berries. We would definitely come back to get the pancakes or even to try dinner. Only problems were I got bacon instead of sausage that I asked for and service was slow- they do seem short staffed so I would cut them some slack.

Great Food and Service , I really enjoyed the atmosphere too The Brisket Pot Roast was delicious and the collard greens were the best that I ever tasted . I eyed the Hamburger at the table next to me, I am anxious to go back and try it

We had a great brunch here while visiting town recently. My friends who live in the area hadn't heard of this place before, so I was happy to introduce them to it as well. Being the small space that it is, it fills up pretty quickly. We had to wait about 45 minutes for our table of four on a Sunday morning. It definitely is not made for big groups, so do not even try! Despite the teenage host who was less than pleasant to interact with, we had excellent service from our server and once seated everything moved along quickly without feeling rushed. My potato hash was unique, and I loved the red eye gravy! The jalapeno cheddar biscuits were so fluffy and flavorful too. Another item that was unlike any other I've had before was the toasted oatmeal pancakes. Just wow! They are super rich so the short stack would be plenty. We got the full stack and had some left because we got so full! They were worth the wait and had top-notch food quality. It was a delightful experience, and I highly recommend The Heights!

You will not find a better pork chop in Lakewood area. 10/10 food and service. Would highly recommend this to anyone going out for a date or nice weekday dinner.

So good I forgot to take a picture! The migas are amazing...the house made chorizo is the best I've ever had. The granola pancakes were incredible as well...the best I can describe them is they're decadent like something you'd have on holiday! Friendly staff and great atmosphere. We will definitely be back!

Warm, cozy, inviting is how I would describe The Heights. Yesterday morning was cold and dreary but my day was made so much brighter after a warm and hearty breakfast, sweet smiles and a cup of coffee that was never allowed to go beyond half empty. I wanted to go someplace that we hadn't been before and The Heights isn't very far from our home so we stopped in. Hubby kept it simple and went for the Basic Breakfast and his rosemary potato hash was the star of his plate, wonderfully crispy and beautifully flavored with chopped rosemary. Yes, I stole a few off his plate and I have no regrets. Now on to my breakfast, it was a wonderful symphony of flavors, textures and all around goodness. The Toasted Oatmeal Granola Pancakes were every bit of deliciousness as described in the name. These pancakes are fluffy but the toasted oatmeal in the batter makes them dense and adds a great chew to each bite. They're also topped with house made granola that's crunchy and lightly sweetened as well as fresh berries that add brightness to the dish. I would recommend that you order the short stack unless you're ravenous or sharing with a friend!

Place has lowkey vibes and is very cozy! Prices are reasonable for Dallas breakfast and lunch. The food was okay. Realized I'm not a huge fan of French onion soup though the presentation was great. My salad was okay but felt like green goddess dressing wasn't the right dressing for a wedge. Shrimp Louie roll was just okay as well. Decent option if you're in the area but will not be at the top of my list for lunch in Dallas area.

Food was terrific! Killer Rueben. Daughter loved the burger. First restaurant I have been in in months where I didn't feel like I was getting ripped off. The waiter, Tom, an older gentleman, was awesome. Proactively brought my daughter a birthday dessert without being asked. If I could give it a 10, I would!

The food is ok. The biscuits and gravy are not good. The service is good. Besides that it's a no. There's better places with good food!

The pot roast is life-changing, I always take friends there to get it! Fantastic service!

Ate dinner here tonight and loved it!!! We discovered The Heights on Yelp and can't believe we haven't been here yet! It's really charming on the inside and offers patio seating outside in the front of the restaurant. The bar has an old world rustic/ Irish pub vibe and love the interior decor. Super cozy and inviting. No need to dress up which was our tone for the night. Our server Tom was great!! Super attentive, friendly and also humorous which we loved. To start, we enjoyed the deviled eggs which were cooked perfectly and had bit of sriracha on the top. I enjoyed the French cocktail and a delicious dirty martini for my second drink. For dinner, the Shrimp Louie Roll was great and Brian enjoyed their burger with bacon. He mentioned it was cooked perfectly. We both opted for the steak fries on the side. For dessert we really enjoyed the key lime pie which was homemade and one of the best I've had...even better than one I ate in Key West a couple years back. Love this spot and we want to try their brunch and come back very soon!!

Great neighborhood restaurant, staff (including the owners) are friendly and fun. Excellent menu by their long-term chef. Steak frites, pork chop, chicken pot pie, and sometimes fried chicken breast. Really good burgers, too! Sunday brunch, especially the pancakes.

You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, it's all great. The braised pot roast is def big enough to share but so good you probably won't want to - just a heads up. Not your traditional pot pie, actually even better. Service is always on point and the staff are all friendly. More of a locals/neighborhood spot but can be a cute date night or special occasion too. Love coming here!

I love this local restaurant- I cannot get enough of not only the feeling of community but also of comfort and also the sense of farm to table ingredients.

Wish I could give you no stars. And the fact that this is over a cup of coffee is crazy. The server was rude to me about where I was sitting outside. And the sun was in my face so I moved over a table and he told me I needed to wait to be seated. Plenty of tables open. There was just one couple that wanted my table that he was growing favoritism too since I was only having coffee. Love story short, rude staff. And he didn't give a damn. I'm sick of food places like this that act like your doing is a favor. We're the ones keeping your business going. But this will just be another has been place after employees like mister curly hair and mustache. (Fuck you)

Came here after orange theory and it did not disappoint! My hubby and bc i had water, coffee, pancakes and eggs and sat at the bar. Bartender was friendly and the place was packed!

Everything here is fantastic. We love all the food and the drinks. One thing that is less than fantastic is it super noisy. We ate outside last time to avoid the noise even though it was a little cold it's much nicer when you can hear each other speak to one another. The deviled eggs are amazing. The French onion soup is the best in the city. I've been back two times just for the French onion soup. I've also had the pot roast twice and the chicken pot pie once. They are all great.

Still the best burger in Dallas, hands down! A few other favs of mine are the Shrimp Louie Roll, Thick Cut Pork Chop, steamed Mussels and Dry Run Chicken Wings. It doesn't stop there, because pretty much everything on the menu is guarantee to be amazing. The Heights is simply a gem!

1. Steak frites - steak not warm; fries are thick steak -cut fries, not French style (skinny & crispy). $33 a JOKE for 4 little cold pieces of steak! 2. Flies buzzing about inside. Got in my beer & died - EXTERMINATE ASAP 3. PLEASE invest in new chairs/booths upholstery. Peeling patches on both. Take some of the $ using to build out the outdoor patio & spruce up the inside

The Heights is a nice casual brunch spot in Lakewood. They have a nice outdoor area set up, fenced with astroturf and spaced tables, with little propane heaters for cooler weather. We both tried The Heights burgers for brunch. The burger comes topped with a generous scoop of jalapeño pimento cheese and whiskey caramelized onions. Lettuce, pickle, tomato and onion are served on the side along with some of the tastiest potato wedges ever. Let's just talk about these wedges. They are beautifully golden and crisp on the edges and taste like creamy mashed potatoes on the inside. Pure glory. The burger itself was completely overcooked. We asked for medium rare but it was well done, just grey all the way through. We knew they were closing soon, so we didn't ask for them to be remade. The flavor was pretty good, but unfortunately we wish the burgers were cooked to the desired temp. I don't know if they'd be the best burgers ever even if the burgers were cooked as desired, but not sure if I'd go out of my way to try it again. Friendly staff though!

Went last night with my wife and friends. Text book perfect neighborhood bar/restaurant. Great atmosphere, service, food and at great prices. Will 100% return.

Food was very filling and friendly staff! Good portions for the price. Plenty of parking. Not a huge brunch menu and we waited about 15 minutes on a Sunday afternoon which was shorter than expected. The inside can be a bit crowded so we sat outside. The house made chai was really good. I would come again!

I had brunch at the Heights a few weeks ago when I was visiting family in Dallas. I had the Lakewood Migas (scrambled eggs with chorizo, pico de gallo, queso fresco, and crispy corn tortilla strips and served with black beans, warm tortillas, and fresh salsa), which were good! The drip coffee was good and refilled constantly! The service was great, and the restaurant had a cool understated vibe. I enjoyed myself, and I'd be happy to go back. A great little Lakewood spot that I wouldn't have known about if my dad's friend had taken me! A bit of a hidden neighborhood gem.

We went for breakfast and the food was excellent. I'm not a huge fan of gravy, but theirs is delicious! It's a little dark inside but it's a bar. There is a small patio outside for nice weather. Friendly service

Was craving pot roast, have never been here, even though they are right down the street from us!! Amanda, our server, Alex, the manager were so courteous and great service. We will be back for sure!!

Food: good. I usually hate dry soy veggie sausage in other places but the one I tasted here was not bad at all. But if the service gave me a choice, I would have loved a better substitute. The granola and pancakes were also good. Service: Very bad. I believe this is where my disappointment lies. I got a sense that the restaurant may be suffering and have issues keeping head above the water, I can sense it in the frugality (no condiments for tables) but felt this is affecting customer experience. They did not entertain dietary restrictions. They said they will be charging extra. I ordered cappuccino. A fly took a dive in it 2 sips into it, I requested if they can get me another cup. Although I did get another cup, I sensed resentment in the waiter for requesting it which led me to think the coffee may be compromised as it did not taste good. Ambiance: it's a nice place. I have been to brunch places that felt more welcoming and warm. It's a shame about the service. I was excited about discovering a new place.

What you'll like: the cozy neighborhood space, the food and the cocktails. I'm a pescatarian and they were out of one of the two seafood options on the small menu, but my lonely fish entrée was nevertheless stellar. My husband said he enjoyed his pork chops--well seasoned, first rate gravy and big mound of delicious mashed potatoes (I had a bite). That sounds like a lot of good stuff, and it is. But now let's talk about what you may not like so much. Woo boy. BAD SEATING RULES. REALLY BAD. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. We walked into a completely empty restaurant (except for the bar) for a very early dinner. We wanted to sit beside each other at the front by the window. Ha ha. Too bad. The seating dude sailed right past me into the very back and dropped our menus on a two top with a chair across from the banquette, and walked away well before I could catch up with him. One of life's tiny but strangely disturbing indignities--being given the worst table in an empty restaurant by some dude who acts like you're invisible. Which to him, apparently, I was. Anyway, as a practical matter, I explained to our somewhat nicer waiter that my husband cannot hear a word I say from the other side of the table in a restaurant. And this was before they seated a family next to us complete with two toddlers, one of whom proceeded to melt down impressively. Yes, seated next to us. In an otherwise empty restaurant. Thanks again, cold cruel seating dude. (Note to families with small children: this is a bar centric adult restaurant. Not a great choice for littles.) Our wary waiter did let us pull another sliver of a two top over so that we could at least sit together, warning us that he might "need it later." Uh, OK... We should have just left. But we were hungry and decided to laugh and lump it. That martini I knocked back helped. Good bartender. Anyway, if you like pork chops, don't care about rude hosts and don't want to sit next to your date anyway, here you go. Enjoy.

Poor service. Only 1 server for inside and out. I felt very bad for the poor server. Food was mediocre.

Our first place visiting after moving to this Dallas neighborhood; The Heights made us feel right at home and has every time since, both in their incredibly friendly service and their home-style, incredible food. When you come here, come anytime of the day. When you order, order anything. And when they start a friendly chat with you, enjoy it as you're at The Heights and that's a good thing.

Great neighborhood place with great drinks and food. I recommend the steak frites or chicken.

Decent place for brunch. Service was okay- not very friendly or attentive but not rude either. On Saturday only a brunch menu is offered, between the two items we ordered I preferred the potato hash over the migas. Really enjoyed the slight sweetness of the gravy and honey ham with the crunchy potatoes. With so many other options for migas in Dallas there was nothing special with these, they could use a better corn tortilla that didnt fall apart and more flavor in general.

The food might have been good..we'll never know because they don't allow dogs on their outside, turfed patio. "It just takes one dog to ruin the turf" said the waitress. Here's a thought get rid of the turf grass.

The Heights will forever be one of my favorite places to eat. You can't miss with anything on the menu and the service is unmatched. Definitely try all of their burgers and Mac n cheese your mouth (and stomach) will thank you.

Service is great, Heights burger is spectacular, and the jalapeño pimento queso is so good. Love this place
