Best Restaurants Along I-95 in the Carolinas | Eater Carolinas

"A few miles off the highway in one of North Carolina’s most historic towns, the Hen & The Hog is perfect for road-weary travelers in search of a slightly more elevated meal. Open for lunch Tuesday - Friday and dinner Thursday - Saturday, the restaurant offers a rotating menu that pulls heavily from the surrounding Eastern Carolina farmland. Options include a pimento cheese and bacon sandwich, shrimp and grits, and a Southern-styled wedge salad with pimento cheese dressing." - Matt Lardie

We arrived early (before 5) and were seated right away. Waite staff were great. The newly expanded bar are is still under construction but totally functional. While we were there, at least 20+ pup crawlers arrived and it was really loud. The Minnesota wonton were tasty and the wagyu beef French dip sandwich was flavorful and melted in my mouth. So good. Bonus, the fries were delicious. The dry rubbed aged pork chop (The Hog) was juicy, tender and flavorful. High lights, the food and service were great but the atmosphere needs a little work yet. I expect great things going forward.

We chose The Hen & The Hog for dinner from a random Google search. From the online description, it seemed to have everything we were looking for. I’m very happy to say that this restaurant is a great find. Happy hour all day?! Hello! But it was more than that. The interior has a rustic vibe that’s very trendy and appealing. We were greeted by friendly staff. Our server was fantastic. The bartender was also super sweet. And the food was delicious! My kids actually ate their food. Also, the selection of local beers is top notch. Definitely recommended and we will be back!

1st and foremost, I have an extreme sensitivity to pork. My children and I went out to eat immediately after school because I hadn’t eaten all day working. So, after viewing the menu online, and I seen on the menus when we got there that the macaroni and cheese was served with pork. My children (9 & 11) knowing my sensitivity, we all 3 asked if there was another option for Mac & cheese, WITH NO PORK!!! The bartender/waitress told us YES, they can make it with absolutely no pork, but with chicken instead. So we ordered it to share. As she was ringing our order in, directly after we ordered I literally yelled across the restaurant ‘MAKE SURE THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PORK IN ANY OF THE FOOD”! She said yep, got it… I cannot make this up!!! she then had the food served to us by another waitress, and the MAC & cheese was LOADED with chicken, so I split it in 3 and I began to scarfed it down… then aftera few bites my daughter (9 years old) says “dad what’s this”, and as she held up a portion of her Mac & Cheese the cook brings me my sauces (instead of the waitress), and he said “That’s bacon” … we froze in utter disbelief!!! … I said WHAT! This is supposed to be NO PORK! He said “that’s impossible, we cook the Mac & cheese directly in the bacon grease”. 😳😡🤬 I said WHAT!!!! I ate this food and I have av VERY high intolerance to pork!!! He then realized the seriousness… At 1st he tried to make excuses for the waitress and I said ‘’’’’NO PORK’’’’’ and pointed at the huge piece of dam near RAW bacon on my daughters plate from her portion of the Mac & Cheese!!! he went and checked with the waitress and she rung it up as chicken WITH PORK!!!! Where he ground bacon directly into the meal! He asked to do a make up meal, so I chose another off the menu. But I started getting sick almost immediately!!! The feeling is similar to when you drink too much alcohol and you throw up, but then when you get to the stomach acid part and you feel dizzy & woozie! It is the most HORRIBLE feeling!! Especially when you expected good food!!!!! I had ate on a completely empty stomach, so I had immediately gotten sick within 15 minutes after this and I threw up in my hands on the way to the bathroom and for about 20 minutes 2 times all together! I then realized this wasn’t going to stop, so I had them package my food and they gave my daughters a dessert and we left the macaroni and left without paying… I almost ran out the door and gave my daughters the keys to my truck and I ran to the bushes in the parking lot and threw up again for 15 + minutes, dry heaving and vomiting my guts out. HOW FREAKING EMBARRASSING having all those people stare at me driving by!!!! My daughters called their mother to come get them (we are divorced and it was my time with them) thankfully she works very close by so she was there RIGHT away! so I went to drive home but then kept pulling over vomiting, so called urgent care… they had me talk to poison control, and poison control said since I had a extremely high sensitivity to pork I was most likely experiencing toxicity shock food poisoning! And that I was going to have to ride it out! I missed work tonight from this, and it caused me to have extreme pain in my gut, throat, back, head, neck disabling me… (i have thrown up once while writing) I feel extremely violated and want them to pay for what they made us go through! And what I will have to experience in recovery!!!!! As if a free meal makes up for such a HORRIBLE experience!!!! That is NOT a “mistake”!!!! That woman VIOLATED me!!! And a RUINED my time with my children and my weekend!!! As I will have to recover now!!! I am pursuing legal guidance for what was done to me! That waitress should be put on leave for what she did if not fired! Be VERY VERY careful with nonchalant waitresses and waiters that do NOT take your handicaps and food allergies serious!!! If it doesn’t affect them then they will keep doing it to others! And I am going to pursue consultation in my best next steps to have recompense! I gave her TO many chances to do what was right

There weren’t many cars, so we almost drove by thinking that they were closed. I’m glad we stopped. The service was outstanding, and the food was spectacular. The wontons came out really fast, the dip was amazing. The mushroom burger was probably the best burger I’ve had in my life. The apple slaw was light and refreshing. The Bloody Mary was delicious. I definitely recommend and will return!

Google
Chicken wings are amazing. Super crisp and flavorful. We enjoyed the honey butter saracha flavor. Could've used more saracha as it wasn't detected in the flav at all. Still loved them. Also had a gluten free bacon cheeseburger. So good and flavorful. This came with French fries that I don't think we're gf. I wish that I had asked or server would've mentioned it if they weren't.

We recently visited The Hen and The Hog for Easter brunch - our first time ever going out as a family for this holiday. The atmosphere was very charming with its farm-style décor and rustic touches, which we appreciated. The rest of my group seemed to enjoy their meals, which is always a plus. However, my personal experience left me a little disappointed. I ordered the chicken and waffles, and unfortunately, the waffle was burnt on both sides. It had a strong burnt taste that left a slight aftertaste, which really took away from what could have been a great dish. I also noticed that the restaurant could benefit from a deep cleaning. Our salt and pepper shakers had food crusted on them, the syrup bottle was sticky, and the bathrooms weren’t in the best shape either as there was something on the walls that made the space feel unkempt. Overall, while the setting was cute and my family enjoyed their food, the cleanliness and the quality of my own meal made the visit less enjoyable for me. With a little more attention to detail, this place could be a real gem.

We've been here twice and really liked it. Great food and service. We'd definitely go back.

Google
ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS AND PHENOMENAL!!!!! This place is legit. Holly cow, amazing! Service is on top of everything too. I will be coming back here for sure. Authentic and homemade food.

Yelp
Sunday looks busy, 4 people for lunch. The hostess was a mess had no clue what to do, we were 10 seconds from leaving, finally got sat and honestly it took too long before finally a waiter came and took both drinks and food orders. Waiter was great, food came out pretty quick and it was good, definitely in the higher end of the price scale but it was good.

Yelp
Went recently for brunch on a Sunday. Since they only feature breakfast on the weekends, I wasn't able to try the Minnesota won tons (I guess that means I'll have to go back -:) The omelette was pretty good, the cinnamon roll was fair, but the apple strudel pancake was nice. The staff was friendly and helpful, if a bit short (something very common around here) and clearly the shop has a sense of humor. Why else would they list their soup of the day as mimosas!

Yelp
This place has really grown on us! Originally years ago we went for breakfast and it was just okay. They have really evolved and created an amazing experience with very tasty food with quite a variety of flavors. With added expansion with a bar and more tables including a very cute patio with evening cafe lighting. Servers are very good and attentive. Watching them work together they do teamwork well! Already looking forward to our next visit, thanks again for a great experience this evening. Tons of great specials as well...

Yelp
My sister brought me here for dinner while visiting. The staff were very friendly, service was quick, and the vibe was pretty relaxed and comfortable. I had a burger which was pretty good! If I'm in the area again, this will be on my list of places to stop.

Yelp
My favorite local diner that always is fabulous in their customer service and fantastic in their quality of food is 5/5! The inside is also always clean looking and cozy.

Yelp
I went here because I was interested in a couple of their appetizers. I was soooo disappointed to find out that Sunday they only offer their brunch menu. I wasn't able to order the items I really wanted to try. Nonetheless, I ordered the pastrami sandwich with fries. My boyfriend ordered the flaming hen sandwich with fries. My friend ordered a breakfast sandwich and apple strudel pancake. Firstly, the waitress did not write anything down, which is a red flag if there's any type of modifications. The breakfast sandwich comes with choices of meat, bread, etc. The food took forever to come out. Service was so slow. My boyfriend and I received our meals, and turns out my friend's meal wasn't even entered. I have no idea how this happened. My friend told a different waitress what she ordered and it was promised to be "rushed". After a while, she received a breakfast sandwich with bacon rather than ham, on a regular bun rather than English muffin. Her cheesy hash browns were burnt. She did not send back anything since we had time constraints. She said the sandwich was still very good but the hash browns were not great since they were burnt. My sandwich was good, although very sloppily put together. My boyfriend said his sandwich was fine but there was no flavor or spice to it and was not memorable at all. The fries were crunchy and delicious. Despite the discrepancies, the food tastes very fresh. I would give this place another try but likely on a different day where I could have access to the whole menu. Service was slow and lacking. This needs to improve.

Yelp
We were passing through and decided to stop here for breakfast. There is quite a bit of space inside but was a little noisey, despite not being overly crowded. Service was okay. The server came over almost right away, however it took a while to get our food and server never checked back to see how everything was. She finally showed up to bring us the check. I ordered the Pastrami hash, it was excellent, with the exception of the hollandaise. It was bland tasting and sadly added nothing to the dish. My husband ordered the Country fried pork tenderloin. He liked the flavor of the sausage gravy but didn't particularly like the flavor of the pork tenderloin. It also came with cheesy hashbrowns however there were very little of these on the plate. The top side, which we presume had the cheese, was burned and not pleasant looking. We probably will not return.

Yelp
Some people say I'm a harsh critic. That might be true but my goal is help them improve not to drive them out of business. We haven't been to this place since long before covid. They have tripled their floor space by expanding into 2 more storefronts and adding a bar in one of them. They've also added outside seating. What they didn't do is expand the size of the kitchen. They are popular and this has given them the ability to expand and to charge charge more than the competition. The expansion may be forcing them to charge more in order to pay the additional rent. My wife hardly ever complains about anything except me being over critical had some things to say about this place. 1) The service was slow. 2) The coffee was bitter. 3) The English muffin for the eggs benedict was over toasted. She said the rest of the eggs benedict had a great taste and the hash browns were perfect! I had the biscuits and gravy. I am a harsh critic of almost all biscuits and gravy made by Northerners, especially in Minnesota. I've had worse but the biscuits and gravy may be close to as good as a Minnesotan would expect them to be but for me they were a miserable failure. The biscuit was hard. It was probably maid yesterday and left in the oven too long. It didn't rise enough but they would know that. I would suggest they buy some Pillsbury frozen biscuits and use them or at least use them as a model of what a biscuit should be. They could also go to Hardee's and try theirs. The gravy was room temperature and tasteless. You could see sausages bits in it but the sausage flavor was lost. Even by adding salt and pepper I couldn't coax any flavor out of the gravy. My hash browns were darker than my wife's. The menu called them cheesy hash browns. If there was cheese anywhere in them it wasn't obvious. The place was noisy. There is nothing to absorb sound and everything to reflect it, That has to be deliberate but I don't understand why. I told my wife I had to go back in order to review their pastrami sandwich. She made it clear that she was hoping it wouldn't be anytime soon. This is maybe one of the worse reviews I've ever given a place and I halfway feel bad about it but I'm sure my review won't keep anyone away and it won't convince The Hen & The Hog to change a thing.

Yelp
We were very fortunate the be seated. It was very busy and I think it's always busy which is a good problem to have. We sat in the back bar area and a bartender was talking care of us. At first we ordered just water and tea but later my husband ordered a beer which he never got. We were charged. I had a frittata with spinach and mushrooms it was huge. Two of us could have shared it. The garlic was the best part. The cheesy potatoes were good. Service was decent for how busy it was. The decor was very much like the name and cute. It was very clean.

Yelp
Less fried food. More farm fresh to table and gluten friendly items. We happened to show up on wing night. We chose a wet sauce and a dry rub. The chicken with the sauce were flabby-not crisp. The dry rub however was really good. They also have meat raffles which is pretty cool. I had a rhubarb cocktail that was very good.

Yelp
Perfect egg Benedict. Not crazy about the hash browns though. They are to charred for my liking. Our waitress screwed up our check. It took some time to straighten it out.

Yelp
Delicious! Ample options to choose from. Our family, including my 17yr old, enjoyed every bite! Friendly helpful service. Atmosphere so chill and inviting.

Yelp
The food was delicious. You could taste the quality of ingredients and that it was made from scratch. The price's were higher due to the quality and time. Not pictured we had the Minnesota wongtons, if you like pickle roll ups you should try. We all liked the dill mustard sauce too. The french fries were seasoned well, they also tasted good with the dill mustard sauce we had left. The Swedish meatballs had this amazing berry sauce with. It tasted similar to fresh cranberry sauce. It add a wonderful sweetness to the dish. Our server was GiGi, very kind, helpful, and attentive. The ambiance was friendly, country, and fun with the art. Would suggest trying if you are in to high quality food made from scratch!

Yelp
The Hen & the Hog has been on my list to check out for some time and I finally made a visit for Sunday brunch! Everything about the visit was fantastic. I can honestly say I am most upset with myself for not going sooner and cannot wait to visit again. This very quaint little restaurant is located at the end of a strip mall and has a decent size patio in the front. Upon entry you will notice to separate dining areas with a very warm and inviting family farm theme. One thing that is a bummer is there is no bar space but that's just me - I like bar seating as I often eat out alone. The server was very friendly and sweet. While she didn't really make any recommendations she was very quick to compliment the choices I made. I started with a sake Bloody Mary that was garnished with a beef stick and cheese cube. The mix had a nice consistency and full flavor. For my meal I went with the brunch burger and this thing was lights out. Arguably the best brunch style burger I've had. The cheesy hash browns on it were fantastic and the ham had a slight sweetness that was perfect with the crispy, salty bacon. Also, the egg was absolutely beautiful and had an wonderful yolk. Truly an outstanding brunch experience that will lead to many more visits.

Yelp
The food was spectacular (especially the home fries) Barbie was our server & took excellent care of us at 6AM. Highly recommend this cute place.

Yelp
We were thrilled to find a local barbecue spot in Albertville. The Hog Heaven was not an overwhelming amount of fat considering it included pulled pork and pork belly. Both meats were well seasoned, well cooked, and flavorful. The Flaming Hen was a slow burn which paired perfectly with their house made pickles. The fries were salty, crispy, and plentiful. We highly recommend trying an aioli to go with the fries. We loved the Dill Mustard and the Garlic. The space is relatively small and even a small group with children can make the place particularly loud. The patio seemed to be the way to go.

Yelp
Food was fab. Excellent happy hour deals (50% off 3-6 on weekdays). Highly recommend the Minnesota wontons, cheese curds, and steak bites - which do NOT taste like coffee (was worried they were going to based on the description but have them a shot). Their margarita was delish, and I tried the rhubarb drink which was tasty but a little too sweet for my liking (and I'm a sweet drink chick). Service was great despite how busy it was. They don't have a ton of seating and it was packed but they seemed to be turning over tables quickly while we were there 530-630 waiting for our takeout order which came out 30 min later than they said it would. Nice ambiance. They also have pull tabs if that's your thing. Small bar that seats around 8-10 people. Would definitely go back!

Yelp
Haning out in Elk River doing some work that brought us up here; we were feeling a bit peckish, and decided to see if there is someplace new to eat around here. We were looking around Otsego/Rogers, but somehow this came into play. The name spoke to us and we thought we'd give it a try. First off it was in Albertville not Rogers which we found out as my phone directed us there LOL. The building is at the end of a business building, and looks unassuming outside of the main city area. Walking it the space was clean and not crowded. We were immediatly seated and ordered our beverages. the alcoholic beverages is limited, but not a big deal to me. Perusing the menu there were some fun looking entrees to try, and made making a choice somewhat difficult. As I always do for Breakfasts, I will either try their benedict or sausage gravy offerring which is the the bellweather on whether or not to return. We opted for the Chilequiles omelot, and the breaded pork pork shop with sausage gravy. The Chilequiles in the omelot were cooked nice, and the salsa topped the mild yet flavorful salsa that will play to those with delicate palates. The entree came with cheesy hasbrowns and an option of bread which in this case was a buiscit. The buiscut was actually quite good. The other entree was the Breaded pork tenderloin with sausage gravy. They hit it out fo the park for this entree. the meat was juicy, and breading was cooked just right, and the sausage gravy was one of the top five i have had. Not sure how they made put it together, but is seemed more along the line of a sawmill gravy. Either way it was quite enjoyable. i almost ordered it again to take home for later this week. If you are up doing any shopping at the Alberville Outlet, this is the place to go to refuel after some shopping. Definetly keep this on your list. I would have given 5 stars, but I had a hankering for a pancake, and more specifically a blueberry pancake....they didn't have blueberry pancakes???? They do have pancakes but not exactly what I wanted, oh well. Hit this place up if you are in the areaa.

Yelp
I'd maybe bump this to 3.5 stars. I had heard this place had a tasty burger so one afternoon we made the trek out here. It's a small place with a bit of an identity issue, I think. I didn't feel like the food necessarily matched the "farmhouse chic" look they were maybe going for? I had planned on the burger but then saw a pastrami sandwich on a pretzel bun and I was sold. What I did not know at the time is they have 2 kinds of fries - your frozen, battered variety (my least favorite), and hand cut fries (my favorite), and I believe you need to upgrade to get the hand cut. Pretty disappointed in that gap of knowledge. The sandwich was fine, but nothing spectacular. We also had the MN wontons which were pretty good, though the dijionaise was the highlight for me. I only wish I had had the handcut fries to dip in it! Worth a stop (especially in this area!).

Yelp
We just moved to the area and this has quickly become our new favorite place. We've gotten something different off the menu each time and it's been absolutely phenomenal both for dinner and brunch. I really enjoyed their coffee during brunch! So good. The staff have all been exceptional as well.
google avatar

Brian F.

Yelp
I judge a place first and foremost by service and service here is phenomenal! Our waitress was Melanie, a woman that loved her job and KNOWS the menu. If I got a place that I've not been before and my service answers and suggests item I just love that! Took my daughter here on Daddy/Daughter date night and that girl loves a good burger so we came here. Food was great, portion size awesome and ambiance also great but seriously above all things is the staff that makes the experience better. Check this place out, it's great
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Wife and daughter had the Swedish meatballs, I had the walleye, grandsons had the cheese burger and the poutine. Everything was great. Service was excellent. We'll go again.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
The cheese curds / cheese balls were amazing. Don't skip them! Pork Belly was good but the crusty bread had a fishy taste which I didn't care for. I had the hen. Didn't love it but was okay. Wish I would have asked for suggestions because many plates looked great going to other tables around us. Service was pretty good. Food was brought out hot. She kept our drinks full. We were seated fairly quickly too. Our table was lopsided so we had to be careful at times. Loved the pictures and art! Husband didn't care for his food and barely touched his entree. She didn't ask and he didn't share. We were enjoying our time with our daughter so he didn't want to complain. Daughter said she would go back just for the cheese balls!
google avatar

Neeta T.

Yelp
Service was terrible. We were seated outside and didn't have anyone come to our table for over 25 minutes. Went in to ask status of our waitress and was told would be a few more minutes. Waited an additional 10 minutes and ended up leaving without getting service. Didn't even get drinks. Will not be back.

Yelp
Located in a small business building next to a gym just south of the Albertville Mall, you could easily say this is the best spot to eat in town. We decided to eat there after seeing the poutine on the menu. The restaurant is small, and was pretty cold inside the day we were there. They have patio seating, but obviously during the winter in Minnesota we weren't able to take advantage of it. The poutine was pretty darn good. Especially the pork that was in it. The meat was really what impressed me. Honestly it impressed me so much that I was probably overly excited about the wagyu burger I ordered. The burger was alright and the fries were pretty good. I understand that wagyu is expensive, and this was actually my first time eating it, but I couldn't say that it was worth the price. With how awesome the pork was in the poutine, I was disappointed that I hadn't ordered something that was pork related and certainly won't make that mistake next time we stop. One last note about the place, just so you're not surprised, the beer and seltzers are sold in cans, and they do not carry anything on tap.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
This was my first time at the restaurant. What brought me on was another Yelper's picture of a pretzel/charcuterie board, but they no longer sell this. My friend and I tried the dry rub wings and cheese curds. The wings themself were more of a rubbery texture instead of a good crunch. The curds tasted good, but they were served cold. On the plus side, their homemade ranch is amazing and the service is very attentive. They do not have anything on tab. All alcohol is canned.

Holly K.

Yelp
The service was amazing, very attentive and helpful! The bread pudding was incredible! We will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes on the menu that we didn't get to. Definitely great food and service - we will be returning!

Michelle H.

Yelp
Ate here early on a Saturday evening, before the rush. We were seated promptly. Our server was great! However, the food was very slow in coming out. We watched people who came in after us get their food before us. We had an appetizer of Hog Belly Bites. They were delicious. My husband had Steak & Blue Cheese in champagne sauce. He thought it was mediocre, as some of the steak was very chewy. I had the Hen. It took about 40 minutes for it be brought to our table and the chicken was so dry that I couldn't eat it. Without being asked, our server did take off my chicken (because I couldn't eat it) and the appetizer (because of our long wait). We did appreciate it. Really not sure if we'd go back

Liz C.

Yelp
I have to avoid gluten, so I asked the server/cook for accommodations and he created a fantastic gf version of a menu item for me. I appreciate the service and out-of-the-box thinking.

Katherine D.

Yelp
Absolutely love the food. So fresh and flavorful. There is always a food special that you cannot deny is going to be good. Our kids enjoy being there too!

Yelp
Barbie is an excellent server with great patience! The food is ALWAYS SPECTACULAR , fast service great price! Thank you HEN & HOG

Yelp
MN Wontons are amazing. Initially, they scared me, but came highly recommended, so gave them a shot. Wow!!! So hot, so fresh, great taste combo!! Will be back for these. Rest of meal very solid, as well.

YiQing G.

Yelp
This is the H&H burger from the Hen and the Hog. I had only half of it because we weren't looking to get too full, and we shared a delicious jumbo pretzel and wings as well. The burger was a bit less juicy and seasoned and the bun a bit less pillowy than my top favorite burgers in the twin cities, but still very good, and definitely far better than most restaurants' burgers. I wouldn't go far out of my way for it, but if in the Albertville area for the outlet mall or any other reason, I could definitely get it again.

Mason C.

Yelp
Great food wow loved it so much worth every penny will be back for sure great service

April M.

Yelp
The food was fantastic but the service was horrible. Multiple times I tried to flag our server down for additional beverage to was down my meal but the only time I saw our server was when she took our order. I understand it was a busy time that we came in but both my husband and I were done with our pop before our food was even delivered (about 10 mins) and had no beverage to enjoy with our food. Very disappointed in this service for such a high end restaurant
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
I'll write good reviews for this place everyday. Their food and service is always amazing. They're also about to expand so I can't wait to see how the decor is for that. If you haven't been to this restaurant and you live nearby you are missing out.
google avatar

Mary W.

Yelp
Simply said, the food was so greasy my plate dripped with grease and our appetizer cheese curds were just as greasy. Could have squeezed oil out of each one. We had nothing good to say about any of it. Passed an Amish furniture store and restaurant on our way here, wished we stopped there.

Bob S.

Yelp
First time there since they expanded seating. Went for lunch and seated promptly. Not real busy, ordered two appetizers then our meal. Meal took well over 35 minutes or so. Had the pastrami sandwich which came lukewarm at best, obviously been sitting for a while. (?) Others had burgers which were good. For the price was expecting a little more. Service was good, kitchen way too slow again. Not sure when we will return
google avatar

Kaselia L.

Yelp
Food was good here, service was ok. We were gifted a gift card for this place and everything on the menu sounded great. Food was good, but the service on the other hand was not there. Did not feel inclusive to other people of culture. Definitely a place with good food.

Yelp
It was cold and loud (despite only a handful of other diners being inside). The buckle on the high chair did not actually latch. We waited at least 45 min for our food during a weekday lunch. The food was ok for the most part, but not great for how expensive it is. The kids chicken strips were too tough for my two year old to chew. The kids drinks were never brought. The apple slaw had a funky flavor that lingered. Overall an expensive, disappointing experience.

Yelp
My wife and I just had a very nice experience at The Hen & The Hog. The atmosphere isn't spectacular, and quite frankly lowered my expectations. Don't get me wrong, it's clean and there isn't anything that is negative about the place. It's just a bit plain and understated. The service was great. Our waitress Courtney was friendly and attentive. We had the Minnesota wontons for an appetizer and shared the apple walnut salad. Both were outstanding. I ordered the walleye and my wife ordered the "Hen" (cider brined half chicken). My walleye, accompanied by honey balsamic brussel sprouts, was very good. I highly recommend it!! My date spoke highly of the "Hen." We saw some burgers being delivered to other tables that looked amazing. I must mention the person bussing tables. She worked very hard, and was especially friendly. I give the H&H a high review! I will be back, and you should be sure to give it a try!

Yelp
Fantastic crazy good eats!! Apple pancakes are so flavorful. Bacon was the best we ever had. Eggs Benedict was a dream. Ham was awesome and the eggs were the best. Repeat for us, staff were friendly and kind !!

Yelp
This is a repeat favorite for my wife and I in albertville! Atmosphere: Nice appearance and layout in the restaurant. I have a feeling the summer patio will be a hit. We ordered takeout today and the process was very quick and friendly. They were properly staffed and had our order ready to go right when we showed up. The restaurant was also full which is a great sign. Drinks: Didn't order any today but they appear to have a decent selection of local beers. Food: My wife ordered the Flaming hen with regular fries and I ordered the H and H meatloaf sandwich with sweet potato fries. The meatloaf sandwich was freaking amazing and probably the most unique/best sandwich I have had in a very long time. The blueberry barbecue sauce and the pretzel bun made the sandwich. Honestly very impressed. The flaming hen was also very tasty. Personally I am a giant fan of the sweet potato fries here and would recommend those 10x over compared to the regular fries as long as you par it with the garlic aioli. Their signature cheeseburger is also a favorite of ours. Not our favorite: the mark-up on the sweet potato fries seemed a little excessive. Additionally I'd love to see an option to time out orders for pick-up. I.E- order to pick up at noon for a 5:00 o'clock pickup.

Yelp
Very nice wait staff! The food was awesome and the menu looked like they had a very good choice. I ended up doing one of their specials.

Yelp
Won't go again. The food was strange, I think they're trying too hard to be upscale. The chairs and environment was cold. Food not worth it and odd assortment of cocktails- or very few. Someone recommended this place but wasn't for us at all.

Yelp
Love Love Love this Place!!! Every time we are driving through we stop! Food is AMAZING!! I've had the mushroom burger and the last time I had the pastrami sandwich. I also always get brown sugar carrots. And that garlic aïoli. Oh my so delicious! The pork chop is amazing as well so many good things you can't go wrong!! Service was amazing as always! And the ambience is nice!

Yelp
Service was beyond excellent. Our server Haylee was the best of the best and our food was equally as good. A nice little gem in a quiet area.

Yelp
What a great dining experience! Finally Albertville lands a restaurant worth its salt. We started with the pork belly appetizer. It was phenomenal. Perfectly cooked-crisp , tender and juicy with a light maple syrup finish. He had the Mac & Cheese. But not just any mac & cheese. It was a gruyere, cheddar, bleu blend with pulled pork and crispy onion straws. Whoa. I had The Hen chicken sandwich. Another Wow, only to be overshadowed by the best fries I can remember ever eating. The fries alone will bring me back. But I also have to mention the super sweet waitress and friendly chat with one of the owners. Kudos to the talented chef. I can't wait to try out the rest of the menu.
