"The Hideaway is tucked behind Publix in Ansley Mall. And while it can feel a bit like a scavenger hunt dodging dumpsters and delivery truck ramps to find the entrance, the final destination is worth the trek. They don’t waste time with unnecessary frivolities here. The patio (and we use that term loosely) is just a roped off section of the parking lot. The interior houses a few tables and booths along with one dart board and a single pool table. When you’re feeling less party animal and more beer and chit chat, this divey, unpretentious spot is a welcomed escape." - Juli Horsford

"Open since 1971 in Piedmont Heights, this laidback neighborhood gay bar is a welcoming and friendly spot offering drink specials, theme nights, pool, and darts to help folks unwind after a long day. There’s Tuesday night trivia, karaoke on Thursday evenings, and Saturday night dance parties, too. The Hideaway also regularly hosts Atlanta LGBTQ sports teams and leagues." - Robbie Medwed

Hole in the wall gem!!! A great hidden spot for a lively LGBTQIA crowd. It's mostly for gay men, but anyone would fit in. Cheap drinks and friendly bartenders. Nick was so nice! I enjoyed myself and will be back. Things to note: small bar, nice back patio with tables and chairs, two bathrooms but only one locks, the other is two urinals and a toilet, no stalls. Parking free, but limited. Do not park right next to storage containers as you have a chance of getting hit because of lack of visibility to other drivers.

Was excited to check out the space especially the karaoke but the DJ was an absolute mess. As soon as we walked in, she told our group “no more slips” 3 hrs before close, cut people off when they were singing just to mumble and talk to herself in the microphone (she did not seem coherent), and then the most horrendous part was a racist comment when she called the wrong person up saying “how should I know- you all look the same” ! We all looked at each other with shocked faces and had to leave after that. What a mess :( Would love to try again with someone else leading the activity…

My 3rd time here, won’t be going again. Bartenders seem to have a bit of an attitude… I peeped that out the very first time I came here. I was sitting at the bar with a friend of mine and one of the bartenders came over talking to a female that worked there, he got all in my personal space without an excuse me or anything like I was nothing, me and my friend got up and moved to the other side of the room. Then when I came back to the bar to pay the tab, one of the guys collecting glasses brought some up to the bar to be cleaned, he dropped the stack of glasses on the bar, ice and straws landed on my jacket.. again no apology or anything. The bartender that I was paying my tab to basically slammed the ticket on the counter. Much better prices and attitude at other bars… I’ll be spending my money elsewhere.

Friendly staff. The bartender made me feel very welcome. Good and fast service. Google maps says that there is food at the bar and that's not true. The crowd/demographics here is mostly older white men in their 40s+ and above. I came here on a Saturday afternoon.

Google
How anyone could have a bad time here I have not a clue. It is the gay "Cheers". I always feel welcome and the bartenders are always on it. Shawn is so kind and always remembers us which leaves you to want to stay longer and drink more. LOVE LOVE LOVE the Hideaway.

Google
No cover charge, nice lowkey chill environment, I enjoyed hearing some of the old school tunes and you can def relax. If you're a bit more mature you won't feel out of place because most of the clientele is 31+ in appearance. Nice if you just wanna go to an LGBT space and chill with a drink but not really a "turnup" space. Pleasant environment though.

It's simple....feeling down? Lonely? Work got you so stressed out you don't know what to do? Head to the Hideaway! I can't tell you the last time I went there and wasn't welcomed with a happy greeting. The staff at the Hideaway just know how to treat people. From what I can see, it's like they know everybody that walks through the door! If you have to wait for anything at all, it's only because it's so busy there lately. It may be called "Hideaway" but it should be called "Freeway" because all roads lead right here, no matter who you are. Just turned 21 and need to go somewhere you feel safe? This is your place. Just turned 61 and need to celebrate with people who won't shame you because you're an older man? This is your answer. I could go on and on (obviously) but I won't. Bottom line...if you're looking for a bad experience, then you're probably gonna find it wherever you go. Happiness starts with YOU! If you're looking for fun with friends who treat you like you just got home??? Then welcome to the Hideaway, my friend. This is how I honestly feel about this place because it's how I've been treated and how I've witnessed others being treated.

This was our second time here but may be our ladt. We sat at the bar where an older female served us however afer we finished our first drink she said she was leaving and ask us to pay, however the next bartender hadnt even arrived yet! So we waithed paciwntly for rhe bartender to serve us when he finally came in. We never got waited on after about 20 minutes so we left. We told the owner but he didnt seem to care either. I can spend my money elsewhere

Yelp
Ambiance was great sat on the seats facing the beltline so it was nice for people watching. We got the flaming skull drink, el diablo and a beer all of which very stiff and solid options a tad pricey but good service and experienxd

Jeremy M.

Yelp
Absolutely appalling! Drink prices are the most expensive of the gay bars, the staff act nice but unless you're a part of the inner circle there, they don't give a damn about you. Bartender Tim has a habit of tacking on additional drinks to people's tabs so make sure to pay in cash if you go there. Unless you go there with a group of friends, prepare for disappointment because the patrons are stuck-up, campy gay guys that give the gay community a bad reputation. The owner needs to act now before a whistle-blower gets his bar shut down.

Yelp
Hideagay- Excellent service, good music and a fun atmosphere. Great place to hang out. Love the weekend day bartenders. You guys rock!

Yelp
The Hideaway lives up to its name! Located at the very back of Ansley Mall, it can be difficult to find if you don't know where you're going. Once you've found it, you'll experience a friendly neighborhood bar with plenty of space to sit and have a drink. The bar is well-stocked with whatever drink you may be wanting and they're all served by warm and welcoming bartenders. If you're looking for a nice place to have a drink and unwind, stop by The Hideaway! Tip: if you drive behind Publix, you'll find parking right outside the door to Hideaway!

William K.

Yelp
One of the best gay bars in Atlanta. Shawn and Mikey are two of the sweetest bartenders and they make the best drinks! They are attentive and they care if you are enjoying yourself! This place also has a welcoming atmosphere!!

Yelp
Went to this bar for a drink to to celebrate a friend's birthday. No one's orientation was questioned, but it was assumed. The bartender asked us if we would like waters and, yes, we did. We were thirsty from walking a mile to reach the bar. The bartender refused to serve us drinks because he said we were "clearly" too drunk. I have never been refused a drink in my life, and was clearly not too drunk. My accepting a water is not an admission that I should not be served. The bartender assumed that my sexual orientation was not a good fit for the bar. I have no words - I have never been treated like that at a business establishment in my life. Unacceptable and shameful.

Tara R.

Yelp
The Hideaway made my birthday the worst possible experience. I am shocked that the bartenders and anyone who works there would think what happened was acceptable. My two friends and I walked in and were not served at the bar. I cannot explain the level of rudeness and dismissal from the bartender without any cause.

Ben M.

Yelp
Fantastic bartenders and drinks. Bear friendly. It's a nice treat to have a place with an outside space.

Rob B.

Yelp
Always a fun time. The bartenders are all friendly and pour perfect drinks. The music is great. They hold several events throughout the week/month: karaoke, trivia, gear night, etc. Its my go to bar.

LeBain L.

Yelp
3 1/2 stars rounded up. Divey gay bar, now smoke free. They let you bring in food. Met up with some friends. When I showed up, all 3 bartenders appeared to be doing inventory rather than serving drinks, but once the drinks started pouring, they were generous at a reasonable price in a real glass. Played drag queen diva bingo and chatted with a few regulars.

Telly M.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall neighborhood bar that is laid back, chill, and extremely unpretentious. You can come here and easily get bent on the affordable drinks and extremely honest and generous pours. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. I think I saw a sign on the door that read something like, "There are no strangers here, just people who aren't friends yet." They friendly bartenders make sure that culture and vibe is alive. Highly recommend.

David K.

Yelp
You'll all be glad to know that I'm one bar closer to completing my tour of every Atlanta gay bar. I've been wanting to come here for years. Well, maybe not that long, but before The New Order closed. It took me a while to find it because it's behind Publix and there isn't signage out front to remind you it's there. Apparently most of what's leftover is still intact including what I would describe as Italian tile kitchen backsplash walls between the booths. It's not a large place. Bigger than you'd think. Two pool tables and a fairly large bar that I would compare to the Clermont Lounge. Rumer has it the faux fireplace is being replaced this month, so if you want to see it you'll need to hurry. Oh, and there's Blackjack (for entertainment purposes only).

Tom C.

Yelp
Always have a great time here and a great place to meet up with friends, some I did not even realize come here frequently. Never know who you will see. Staff is quite friendly and fortunately, I live just across the street. Comes in handy being in an outdoor shopping mall - sometimes I pop in for a beverage when shopping or if starts to rain! Has a wide age range, but mostly 40's-60's. Some of my 20-30's friends come here too. And people you don't even know stop and chat. Hard to find that much of anywhere in Atlanta any more. Oh, yeah, drinks are great - sometimes have to ask them to go light on the liquor!

Yelp
Went to The Hideaway last night for the first time with my husband and his coworker who was in from London. We really enjoyed the drag show and think it's awesome that the tips go to charity! Our visitor had never been to a drag show and thought it was amazing! Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. I have been an ally for over 30 years but hesitate to go to a gay bar without my LGBTQ friends because I don't want to appear voyeurstic or exploitative. I couldnt get any of my peeps to come out last night as we're all OTP mid 40s working folks. However, after see awesome all the folks were I would not hestitate to bring anyone to The Hideaway! Super fun time and we will definitely be back, even all the way from Marietta

John B.

Yelp
Most people don't know this, but the Hideaway is Atlanta's oldest Gay bar, still in existence. It's gone through several name changes, but the atmosphere is unequalled. Cozy, and welcoming, the Hideaway offers a great evening of socializing with family. You won't find a bevy of twinks, or "A Gays", but you will find a community of REAL people. The Hideaway is my "go-to" bar.

A G.

Yelp
Went here when a co worker took a large group of us and can't believe how one bartender (the older one) was so nice and service oriented...then the younger one with the cap was just a bit too much attitude for a dive bar in ATL. People lest forget where they are (a strip mall) and what brings people back...how they felt when they were there. Won't be coming back thanks...enjoy the mall!

Sean K.

Yelp
One of the most friendly bars I have ever been to. Great selection of reasonably priced drinks & strong pours. A true family!

Sabrine J.

Yelp
My husband and I have only been in Atlanta less than year, and we are proud to call The Hideaway our home away from home. It is no longer a smoking bar, so that is a major plus. Two of my favorite things are Trivia Tuesdays and the Birdcage Bingo Drag Show on Wednesdays. The drag show has the most diverse cast of performers. I personally call it the "Drag Show with a heart." Ruby Redd and Dewayne are the hostess and DJ's, that cultivate the welcoming ambiance. Come by and see The Hideaway, I have no doubt you will be welcomed with open arms.

Victor G.

Yelp
If your looking for a great local bar with out the loud music and dancing, this is your spot. They have trivia on Tuesday's and Free Bingo/ Drag show on Wednesday's to raise money for local charities. Not many bars over this the area.

DeWayne M.

Yelp
The Hideaway is my favorite gay bar. You never meet a stranger and they have the most reasonably priced and strongest drinks drinks in town.

David Y.

Yelp
I have been a regular for many years through lots of iterations of this place. Was doing so much better for a while. It now appears that the owner is tired of it. It shows in the service. There are a couple of bartenders who are welcoming. However, several of the main ones act tired and uninterested in working there. Frankly, I'm uninterested in having them continue. I'm at the point of finding another place to hang out. Not fun any more.

Charlie S.

Yelp
The Hideaway is a great bar on the backside of Ansley Mall. The staff is awesome! It's a gay bar but welcoming to everyone. You are guaranteed an enjoyable time. The owner really cares about the community. Always drink specials. There is a pool table, juke box tv's and the famous fireplace. Check it out.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Had a great time! Went on a Wednesday night and met some great people and got to play gay slang bingo and see a little bit of the drag show. Good times and good drinks! Can't wait to return!!

Eric M.

Yelp
I'm not one much for smoking and I thought that smoking was prohibited but that aside, there is a nice mix of men (and sometimes a stray cat) that is focused on meeting and chatting rather than boy-bodies frolicking in e-lit rooms of bouncy trance. You will find plenty of hot men, yummy bears, and handsome chubs. As a visitor it was nice not to feel like I didn't belong, rather that I was welcomed to be a gay man in the company of other gay men in a bar with great parking.

Scott F.

Yelp
Fun little hidden location behind Ansley Mall. The week is full of nightly events from drag shows to bingo. The hideaway always has a mixed clientele of young and old. They do serve nice stiff drinks!

CJ B.

Yelp
Love love love this place! Its such a divey gay bar, smokey, and dark. On various nights they have events such as birdcage bingo on Wednesdays, Karaoke on Thursdays, and industry night on Mondays. Their drinks are strong, cheap, and every flowing. This place is not for everyone, though. You have to have a sense of humor, not be sensitive, but be ready to have a good time. Music is good and varied, and they have a jukebox here too. Another perk is the pool tables are free!

Stephen K.

Yelp
Grope Bill and tell him it's from me... The Hideaway used to be a place I'd pass and wonder if it was that bar everyone knew about but nobody wanted to go but I now realize it's the bar people go to and love but don't really talk about. It's nice and relaxing and the bartenders are too cute! I can't wait to go again and again.

Cassondra B.

Yelp
The staff is awesome and extremely friendly! Always welcoming. Great drinks, good prices.

G H.

Yelp
I love this place. Gary is awesome, but I will never give Andrew another dime. No need to elaborate.

Shawn M.

Yelp
Great little neighborhood bar, with a venue every night of the week! Awesome staff and cheap cocktails, a win-win all the way around.

Louie W.

Yelp
Great bar, great owner who cares about his customers. Very straight friendly also. Reasonable drink prices! Convenient location. Good neighborhood bar. Would recommend to any one!
