I love this place. If it was in my neighborhood, I would eat there all the time. I'm relatively new to working in the area, but I understand that in the past 3 or 4 months, there was a change in chef, which seemed to make a huge difference in the quality of menu offerings.
I love the atmosphere here, it's usually fairly quiet and the lighting is great. It lends itself well to having conversations, whether you are one-on-one or in a group setting.
I've tried several menu items for both lunch and dinner. They are pricey, but everything I have ordered is phenomenal. All sandwiches are served a la carte, so no sides are included, and fries are $6-$10 extra. That's not usually an issue, because the sandwiches are huge, and really hearty and filling. I do wish they had a half sandwich/fries or salad option, specifically for the lunch crowd.
Some of my favorites menu include:
- beet and burrata salad (beets poached in coffee grounds - insanely flavorful!)
- the fish tacos ($10 for 2 fish tacos - grilled or fried - is one of the only deals on the menu).
- the sides - brussel sprouts and truffle fries are delicious!
- cocktails and wine are good, but they are pricey. I wish they had a more robust happy hour.
- grilled cheese sandwich - combination of cheese, caramelized onions and a sweet mustard.
- steak sandwich (lunch only) - huge and so filling.
- crispy oysters - deep fried goodness.
- hanger steak entree (i think this will be switched out during the seasonal menu change) - hearty plate of mashed potatoes and hanger steak. perfect winter comfort food at a reasonable price. ($16).
The staff is great; they work really hard to get to know their clientele and make sure the customers are happy. They are also really knowledgeable about the menu selections. They have a great lounge upstairs, but usually only one bartender working at happy hour, so it can be difficult for them to get upstairs, which can lead to a lag in service time.
Overall, I love this restaurant. The Seaport District is off the beaten path, a bit, but this could be a destination restaurant. It's small, but definitely worth taking note.
