On the Grid : The Hideaway

"Anyone who’s been to the Hideaway on Duane Street since it opened ten years ago will feel right at home at the new Hideaway Seaport on Peck Slip. The owners kept the bones of Meade’s – a favorite neighborhood watering hole – and added a more refined interior and an upgraded menu. Don’t miss out on the sidewalk seating and an upstairs dining room for private events." - Wasabi Rabbit

"At first glance, this looks like a laid-back bar with a good cocktail list; but the major appeal, here, is that on Sundays, they bring in Maryland Blue Crabs. These are served alongside nicer bar food than you'd expect, like truffled fries and a homemade burger. There is another downtown location in Tribeca."

Cool Americana decor and a welcoming vibe on a quiet corner. The bar itself is a beautiful natural wood and adds to the charm of the place. Beer options were on the more interesting side of things albeit not microbrewery (they had a couple of Montauk on tap).

Food was delicious, the menu is very comfortable and familiar with fun spins. I loved the mini chicken and biscuits, and the sliders are also awesome. Drinks were also phenomenal, great sangria and hibiscus lemonade.

Food wasn’t anything special but it was decent. The waitress dropped my food on my boyfriend and they promptly brought out a new one. They also made his food wrong and didn’t make it buffalo chicken. I’m not one to complain or be a Karen, but you’d think they would comp something after dropping food on a customer and getting the order wrong. Nope! We didn’t say anything about it and just paid, but we wont be going back as I feel that was bad customer service. At least comp the $2 for the sauce you forgot...

Happy hour rates are good.. the appetizers were good and cheap too

EDIT: I went here for my birthday before a concert and was impressed, but seriously disappointed later on… We asked for shots of tequila before we left and I ran to the bathroom while they were being poured. The server and bartender started speaking to each other in a language my fiancé happens to speak - and they were talking and laughing about how they sold us shots as expensive as our drinks. The worst part is, I gave them a seriously big tip because I thought they were awesome - but really they just took advantage of us on my birthday and laughed about it. The food was still good though.

Service is less then mediocre, drinks were meh, atmosphere was not it, bathrooms were really disgusting and there's one girl bartender there that just grills you your entire stay. Also some random dude walked up to my boyfriend and I less then 5 minutes we were in there trying to reassure us for help when we didn't even get the chance to sit down to decide, it was uncomfortable and weird don't recommend

This is truly one of the hidden gems of NYC, FiDi or otherwise. Recently worked with the manager (Brian) and his team to host a going away party for a friend in the upstairs area. It was PERFECT. All we were hoping for was a hosting space, but they went above and beyond. The area was already festively decorated, they had a whole TV setup for music and videos, and even had a private server take care of us for the evening. When our group did venture downstairs to the bar on occasion, Diego was AWESOME and kept the drinks and good vibes flowing. Had such a fun night and will definitely be back!!

I always comes in hideaway seaport after my work to get my favorite beer and chill while listening to their sweet sounding music. The food is very delicious and they have the best and sweetest staffs ever! I appreciate them going above and beyond to everything they do to make sure I leave happy :) Thank you for taking care of me while I am there. You guys are the best!! 🥰

Yelp
Went for tippling and stayed for food. Got their apparently world famous bramble was was utterly disappointed. I love brambles and this was not it. My Cobb salad had no blue cheese or avocados but nobody decided to let me know that. Also very unprofessional. The guy who seated me was very nice though. He constantly made jokes and was very welcoming. But won't be back because they seem like a beer place only, And I'm not a beer fan!

Yelp
Just wanted to give a shout out to the GM Michael for his hospitality and the staff at the Hideaway Seaport. Came here for post work drinks with some colleagues on a weeknight - this is really a gem of a spot, hidden away (pun intended) just off of Seaport and Fulton Street. Had an assortment of the menu offerings, this place is deserving of being called a gastropub. The food was good and went well with the drinks. Fried Calamari - Nice and crispy without the residual grease that can come with calamari dishes Fries - Came out piping hot and was the star of the night Cheese Quesadilla Nachos Honey Sriracha Wings Would definitely come back again! Thanks Mike for having us!!

Yelp
I came here with my date to redeem my drink for the Autumn Tippler as we were in the area. The tippler drink was the Scottish Bramble. The drink was okay. It was my first time trying a Scottish Bramble but, I couldn't help but feel like something was missing. My date ordered a margarita and, even he said it was lacking. There was a female bartender that was great! She took music requests and had a great playlist. I loved her energy and, I only wish I had gotten her name before she left. Her shift had ended just as we were placing our drink orders. I noticed once she left, the vibe changed. It was a lot harder getting the other bartender's attention. I was completely over it. Just as we decided to leave, the bar suddenly got packed. It seemed we left at a good time.

Yelp
Its all about the bartender music taste.... It truly feels like a party for him/her and their buds.. its about the jams they enjoy kinda of forgetting what the paying customers want. Oh well. Moving one ,,,

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday evening. Service was very quick and they were polite. The vibe is very casual and it's more of a bar feel. The upstairs was closed off for an event. We got the fish and chips and chicken tenders and to our surprise it was excellent. Fries are perfectly golden and crispy. Chicken tenders were juicy and crisp, served with three sauces. The batter was a little more seasoned than I preferred but still good, the fish was also less flakey than I am used to for cod but still good none the less. The tarter sauce was excellent. I would definitely come back a nice casual place by the pier to hang out with friends or get drinks.

Yelp
Looking to have dinner with my group of 9 and found the perfect place! A few beers , burgers, quesadillas, fish and chips and we were hooked!!!! We got seated outside and it's nice, inside they have a bar that look inviting. Really happy with the find.

Yelp
We ran into the place 5 minutes before happy hour. The manager, mike, couldn't be any nicer. He still gave me happy hour and a laugh. Then he played the BEST 90s alternative music. We had great wine and beer. We will definitely be back on our outing in seaport district.

Yelp
The Hideaway Seaport is a solid place to visit in Seaport. American classics like truffle fries, loaded fries, flatbreads, etc. The waitress was really nice and pretty attentive for being responsible for the whole place. We came on a Monday because so many other places were closed/not open (obviously). We ordered the Nachos with chicken, Quesadilla with chicken and the Loaded Fries to start. The portions were way bigger than we expected which was nice. For entrees we ordered the Penne al la Vodka with chicken and The Hideaway Burger. Everything was okay. Nothing crazy special but the portions made up for that. The drinks however were in my opinion the stars. We ordered the Seaport Sour and Muless. Both were delicious. Def

Yelp
So happy that this spot survived Covid!! Staff is friendly, food and drink still great (although the menu has changed slightly and I really miss the Buffalo Cauliflower). There is indoor and outdoor seating as well as fabulous music. I can't wait to return!!

Yelp
Love, love, love this bar. They have a decent beer and cocktail selection, not overly extensive, but you can find something you like. I've been rediscovering the Seaport post-Covid. If you have too, definitely give the Hideaway a look see. My sister and I had salads, the Cobb and the Ceasars and they were AMAZING. Obviously fresh ingredients, especially the croutons. We also shared an order of fries. Large portion, crispy delicious. The bartenders are so friendly and helpful from the minute you walk in the bar. It really is a joy to be here. They open at 4 and the place is kinda packed within the hour, so this place is no secret. Good to see they survived Covid. Come out and support this amazing Southstreet gem!

Yelp
Stopped by here on Friday around 6pm prior to a concert at Pier17. Let me start by saying that the place is super cute! Very inviting and great location. We also enjoyed the food. I ordered a buffalo chicken caesar wrap which was great and my fiancé ordered the hideaway burger. Both came with fries that were perfectly crispy and generously salted, which we loved! However, I'm giving 3 stars because the service was not great. It was actually pretty bad. Before our server came over with menus, we knew what we wanted to order. We ordered 2 beers, our entrees, and my fiancé upgraded his side of fries to truffle fries and asked for grilled onions on his burger. When we sat down, there was only one other seated table and throughout the hour or so that we were there, the rest of the 6-8 tables surrounding us filled up. Throughout our time there, we never got out beers and the server barely came out to check on any of the tables including ours. At first, I was understanding because it seemed like he was the only person serving the occupied tables and I felt for him, but when we looked over, he spent almost all of his time standing behind the bar chatting and laughing with two girls who were sitting at the bar. When our food came out, there were no truffle fries and no onions on my fiancé's burger. We let it go about the fries but managed to flag the server down to ask about the onions. We also had to ask for refills on our empty water glasses. He went into the kitchen once to check, then went back to the bar to chat with the girls, then came back to our table almost 10 minutes later to inform us that the kitchen ran out of onions and that's why we didn't get grilled onions on his burger. We were confused as to why they didn't say anything upon bringing the food out to us but let it go. Also, we were still missing our two beers but we didn't say anything because at this point, we were tight on time to make it to our concert. We had to flag him down again when we were ready for the check and upon getting the bill, we found that we were charged for the two beers. So we flagged him down AGAIN to inform him that we never got the beers. He seemed confused but ultimately removed them (it came up as "manager comp") from our bill. The whole experience was kind of a bummer. It seems like a great place to go for cocktail hour. Love the location and food was good too, but the service was just bad. Won't return because of it. There are too many other options in the city to spend your money some place that you end up walking away feeling annoyed about your experience.

Yelp
RIP Hideaway This spot used to be great. Locals hangout with amazing energy has gone down the tubes and taken the whole corner of the cute seaport with it. The staff is unfriendly, awkward, and completely out of place. I live in the area and have tried to go back a few times since management has changed and not once was I greeted or even asked what I'll have when after sitting there for some time. It's sad when this place used to have a soul and was a lot like Cheers. Food has gone down, the people who go there are not the vibe, and generally sucks now. Needless to say I will not be going back unless something dramatically changes.

Had the best chicken club sandwich ever! Kayleigh was super sweet and hospitable! This place has awesome cocktails too and the vibe is booming. Highly recommend

Yelp
So I am a huge fan of the original hideaway on Duane street. The moment I saw they opened a sister location I was Ecstatic to try it. Sadly my enthusiasm Dissipated rather quickly. Upon arrival we ordered a Moscow mule. It was a lime juice mess. We sent it back and the bartender gladly obliged to try again. However, second time around it wasn't any better. So the bar staff definitely need basic mixology training to perfect their game. The food at the Duane street location is always finger licking good. So I was very disappointed when my experience here was not the same. First we ordered the octopus appetizer. When reading the menu I didn't even pay attention that it also came with greens and sweet potato chunks. When you start to eat the plate you think you ordered sweet potatoes and greens rather than octopus. There are some cut up chunks but not much in comparison to the veggies and sweet potatoes. The octopus is more of an after thought idea. They are pretty stingy on the octopus. Like Duane street location the truffle fries are excellent. Only complaint they cut up the fries pretty small when it's not needed. You end up having to dig for gold in the bucket. Standard size fit just fine. The other hideaway serves them that way. Next up we had the fried chicken with biscuit. It was nice and tasty. I ordered a side of Brussel sprouts and the crab cake entree which comes with a side of slaw. All three items were extremely salty. So much so that I couldn't even eat either of the two crab cakes fully. I informed the waiter and he comped the crab cakes off the bill. That was nice of him. But the slaw and Brussels sprouts were equally salty. In short the only thing I truly enjoyed was the truffle fries. I guess I will stick to going to the Duane street location. Their food and drinks are much better. This seaport establishment is smaller than the original on the main floor. It does have a second floor but not really sure how big it is as I didn't venture to explore. I will update my review at another time when I pay them another visit.

Yelp
Came here to participate in the NYC Tippler. The cocktail highlighted was the Scottish Bramble. I'd never heard of this cocktail before so I was curious and excited to see what the bartender would mix up. I believe the bartender's name was Diego and he made a hell of a drink! I like whiskies and bonbons and I appreciate that Diego had a good heavy hand. It was my first drink of the night but it gave me a great kickstart to the rest of my bar hopping that evening.

Yelp
Stopped in here early one happy hour during a weeklong stay at the 33 Seaport hotel across the street. The bartender was friendly and prompt. Had a nice conversation about the neighborhood and his well-chosen songlist filling the old brick interior. Enjoyed my visit so much I brought my daughter with me the next night, where he handled us and a bigger crowd there to watch the game as efficiently as the night before. Nachos were piled high with melted cheese and hot peppers and the buffalo tenders didn't last long. Thanks, Michael and hope you get that turntable!

Mark J.

Yelp
Fabulous cozy neighborhood spot where the owner is also the bartender. Best burger ever!

Yelp
I've been in Seaport for a few months now. An old hospitality veteran of NYC took me to Hideaway Seaport, insisting it was one of his favourite hangout bars. It didn't take me long to figure out why. The staff, from Mike and Ruth to Cam and Evelyn (and the rest of the gang) put in a huge effort to make me and the rest of the guests feel at home. Lots of smiles all around. They did a bang up job of introducing me to the neighborhood, and the many new neighbors that kept coming back over and over to this bar to shoot the breeze. Also, they have Imperial Beers. Nothing more a guy fresh from London could ask for. 10/10 staff, 10/10 drinks, 10/10 atmosphere. Will be returning many, many times.
google avatar

Alexandra T.

Yelp
Solid spot in the seaport to grab a drink. I can only review the hideaway based on the drinks and the downstairs area. There was a party upstairs and I saw food so there must be a kitchen too. I went with the montuak IPA draft. Can't go wrong with one of these. They had a decent selection of beers, wine, and cocktails. Would definitely stop by again if in the area.
google avatar

Andrew K.

Yelp
Updating my review as management has changed and the menu has been updated since July '18. The food here has gotten better (the honey sriracha wings are top-notch but ask for an extra bleu cheese), and they've added a few extra IPA options to the beer list. The new manager has gone out of his way to make sure my kids and I were comfortable there when we dropped by for dinner on a busy Thursday night. Which leads me to this tip: *If you're with kids and the bar is busy, there is an upstairs lounge area which is almost always quiet, and it's comfortable and roomy. You may have to participate in waiting your own table if it's only the bartender working, but it's worth it. I definitely recommend as a place I really enjoy for a quick drink, a game, brunch, or a meal with the family.

Yelp
I was surprised to see that there wasn't a Yelp page for The Hideaway in Seaport. When my friends and I whipped out our phones to check in we were taken aback! This is probably the first time that I've been at an established NYC bar and couldn't check in on Yelp- weirddddd. They've got a location in TriBeCa but I know that the Seaport location has been around for a while as well. I came in last night for a friends surprise birthday party. The upstairs space was very accommodating for a private party of about 20- plenty of seating and private waitress service. They set up the room with balloons and it was all decked out when we arrived. The food was tasty, and we all shared a few platters of wings and assorted tacos (chicken, beef, pork). The tacos came with an avocado ranch dipping sauce that was perfection. I wanted to give The Hideaway 4 stars...but there were just a few things holding me back. First off, it's WAY way overpriced for what it is. House well drinks are 11 dollars- I mean, c'mon people, for a well gin and soda, really? They've got a happy hour with 5 dollar beers and 8 dollar glasses of wine, and in my eyes house drinks should be included in that price point. It's hard to justify going here when all drinks at Fresh Salt (directly around the corner) are 4 dollars on happy hour until 8:00. The service was also a little wonky. Yes, there was one bartender for like 20 of us and that can be rough, kudos to the bartender for handling that. I was just a little thrown off when I ordered a birthday drink for my friend and instead of bringing up a birthday drink she just took the drink that my friend was currently sipping on off her bill. Kind of defeats the purpose of actually sending someone up a birthday drink. Overall, this is a solid pick if you are looking for a secluded space to hold a private party or event. I just doubt that I would return for a happy hour at the Seaport over Fresh Salt.

Yelp
Such a great spot! Walked in with a group of my girlfriends on a Thursday night and the bartender (Erin/Aaron?) took great care of us. She was so attentive and kind. Drinks/food were reasonably priced and the music was great as well. I would definitely come back!

JAsna V.

Yelp
I called this place up to reserve a table for my girls' 16th birthday. Though the place was small the manager reserved the entire upstairs for my girls and their friends. The kids loved the music and the privacy they got. The bill was very reasonable. They didn't charge us a penny extra for reserving the upstairs for the party. If you looking to do something similar please do check this place out.

Sophie J.

Yelp
This place is so sick. We felt really cool stumbling across this place. Bravo to the Gen Z bartender with the mustache. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
Didn't expect it but, The Hideaway Seaport was truly wonderful. The vibe is great. Lots of people suggested Fish Tacos to me, I have to say it was really great. Staff gets 5 stars. You should give them a try!

Abby H.

Yelp
Bartender took advantage of my friend and I and charged us both $25 for an espresso martini because it was "made with expensive alcohol" , which we did not ask for nor did he specify. Shrugged at us when he gave us the bill, wouldn't recommend to young women

Bethany K.

Yelp
Hideaway seaport is the best place to go to watch Arkansas football! Each week our group looks forward to watching the game, and we've befriended the incredible servers as well! Kam is the BEST! We adore him, hope we see him every week! Nobody could be more kind, attentive, and excited to see us as Kam does. 100/10 recommend for Arkansas fans!

Yelp
Awesome place with good food and very good service. Will definitely come back. The bar tenders make you feel welcome and take good care of you.

Yelp
What a place!!! I was in the city walking around and snow started pouring down, damn was cold outside. Walk in this little spot... Kayleigh ( I think this is how you spell her name) was very welcoming, she help me out with the cocktails they have and suggested me the DEAD MANS BOOTS.. ( it was rye, tequila like juice and ginger beer.) Awesome! A mean very good drink... Had the nachos and they were very good... plenty of food and very tasty. This defenily will be my spot in seaport and anytime I'm around I'll be back!

Yelp

Yelp
The Hideaway Seaport is an offshoot of the original location in Tribeca for which I've been going to for years and really like. This location is fairly small, with a bar area that seats around 20 or so people, a few outside tables and a small upstairs dining room. My main recommendation for coming here though, would be for the Hideaway Burger, which is excellent. The quality and flavor of the meat, the meat-to-bun ratio is perfect, they use high quality cheeses (like VT Clothbound Cheddar), and the Remoulade and Pickles for which they make in-house are phenomenal. I've also had The Hideaway's Breadless Crab Cake which is very good as well, and the Tribeca location serves a Maryland Blue Crab Boil on Sundays & Mondays in the Spring & Summer, but not sure if this Seaport location does it as well. Probably doubtful as it's a much smaller satellite location. And I like that it doesn't get overly crowded after work, like other places nearby...ie, Stone Street, Industry Kitchen, Ambrose or Jeremy's Ale House, so you can relax and actually have a conversation with whoever you're with. Overall, this is a great spot for a relaxing after-work drink and recommend it, especially for the Burger - one of the best in the Financial District, in my opinion. Enjoy!

Yelp
Please update your working hours. We came at 9:30 PM and you were closing, however Yelp tells that you work till Midnight. It's very frustrating.

Yelp
Can't say enough what a great place this is. Megan the bartender was attentive, quick, and clever to boot. Can't believe I had never heard the joke about the three nuns in a bowling alley before. Great stuff.

Yelp
I have passed this bar a few times on my bike and loved the look of it, so after hopping off the Rockaway Beach ferry one night, me and friends popped in for umm "one for the road." We had the best time perched at the bar. The staff were totally cool, the crowd friendly, the cocktails were really good and the bar tender was our very own personal DJ. We were singing along to the classics till midnight with the warm summer breeze wafting through the huge open windows. Love , love love. And to note, there is never just "one for the road" is there...

Yelp
I love this place. If it was in my neighborhood, I would eat there all the time. I'm relatively new to working in the area, but I understand that in the past 3 or 4 months, there was a change in chef, which seemed to make a huge difference in the quality of menu offerings. I love the atmosphere here, it's usually fairly quiet and the lighting is great. It lends itself well to having conversations, whether you are one-on-one or in a group setting. I've tried several menu items for both lunch and dinner. They are pricey, but everything I have ordered is phenomenal. All sandwiches are served a la carte, so no sides are included, and fries are $6-$10 extra. That's not usually an issue, because the sandwiches are huge, and really hearty and filling. I do wish they had a half sandwich/fries or salad option, specifically for the lunch crowd. Some of my favorites menu include: - beet and burrata salad (beets poached in coffee grounds - insanely flavorful!) - the fish tacos ($10 for 2 fish tacos - grilled or fried - is one of the only deals on the menu). - the sides - brussel sprouts and truffle fries are delicious! - cocktails and wine are good, but they are pricey. I wish they had a more robust happy hour. - grilled cheese sandwich - combination of cheese, caramelized onions and a sweet mustard. - steak sandwich (lunch only) - huge and so filling. - crispy oysters - deep fried goodness. - hanger steak entree (i think this will be switched out during the seasonal menu change) - hearty plate of mashed potatoes and hanger steak. perfect winter comfort food at a reasonable price. ($16). The staff is great; they work really hard to get to know their clientele and make sure the customers are happy. They are also really knowledgeable about the menu selections. They have a great lounge upstairs, but usually only one bartender working at happy hour, so it can be difficult for them to get upstairs, which can lead to a lag in service time. Overall, I love this restaurant. The Seaport District is off the beaten path, a bit, but this could be a destination restaurant. It's small, but definitely worth taking note.

Yelp
Cute neighborhood bar! Great atmosphere, drinks & food- quesadilla is delicious!! If you're a Bachelorette fan- make sure to stop in on Mondays for the watch party!!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this spot last night and am so happy I did! We showed up with a group of 8 and they were super accommodating to seat us! Our waitress was a rockstar and made sure we were all taken care of! They have a great happy hour which features $5 glasses of bubbly!! We had Miller lights that are reasonably priced for NYC! Also had their Buffalo chicken puffs and I am obsessed!! Buffalo chicken that has been put into puff pastries and they hit the spot! This is a great place to sit out at with friends and enjoy the seaport area!

Yelp
COVID REVIEW - Starting stopping by for happy hours during Covid and the Hideaway is a warm break back to normalcy! Looks like a limited menu but still plenty of bar food offerings. Their burger happy hour deal is a quite good - $14 for a burger, fries, and a beer! The crowd is always inviting and staff make it all very personable.

Yelp
Great bar. Nachos, onion rings. Good beer. Nice escape while at seaport. Small. Truely a bar with upstairs.

How to lose a new customer? Send the wrong item, and when the customer calls to fix it, have your answering machine pick up, take 4 messages over time and NEVER EVER call back!! AMAZING! You folks should try a different business that doesn't require customer service!

Yelp
Food was delicious, the menu is very comfortable and familiar with fun spins. I loved the mini chicken and biscuits, and the sliders are also awesome. Drinks were also phenomenal, great sangria and hibiscus lemonade.

Yelp
I've delivered doordash with them several times and they are always late. The last time was last night during a snowstorm. When the delay went past 20 minutes, I approached the bar to inquire about the order. The bartender gave me a nasty look and without listening me to my question, told me to wait outside. During a freezing snowstorm!!! I obliged but will never deliver for them again. Please don't patronize them. NYC has plenty of incredible bars and restaurants that treat working class people with dignity and respect.

Yelp
Wow this place was exactly what I needed and wanted. Food was fantastic (I'll be dreaming about the deviled eggs) and just an overall good vibe. Seaport has a lot of great looking spots but they usually seem to fall short imo. Great prices, strong drinks, & good service trifecta also. Hideaway was able to deliver on all levels, I will be coming back for sure.
