Another great Cathedral Hill brunch spot! Too bad it had to replace Bon Vie, but I'm really glad that there is an equally high-quality eatery open in this spot. We came in on an unseasonably hot October 1 and we were surprised that there was no wait at 9am. Things definitely filled up shortly after that, though, and I'd recommend preparing yourself for a wait, especially considering they don't take reservations. What used to be a bakery counter is now bar seating, so you might have luck sidling up there.
But it's such a pleasant place to eat. The service was so friendly and REALLY fast. Seriously really really fast. We wound up being done with our meal quicker than anticipated because of that swift service, but our server made it very clear to us that we shouldn't feel rushed to leave at the end. Really outstanding with the service here.
The food was very good. I went with the Cornbread Benedict, since I'm very interested in eggs benedict variations lately. This was legit; it was a single poached egg on a big slab of cornbread, all drenched in a unique, creamy sauce and tasty minced chorizo. The sweetness of the cornbread might throw some people but it's a good combination. It also came with very good hash browns, and fried plantains which were surprisingly sweet. My friend was very satisfied with her Classic Breakfast #2, demonstrating that they nail it on the classics as well as their originals. Great coffee, she also pointed out, which reminds me that there are some fun beverage choices on their menu like Espresso Cream Soda. Between all that and the pleasant ambience, I will probably return here with some frequency!
