The Hippo Wine Bar & Shop

This spot is a gem! I stopped by to buy a bottle of bubbly for a holiday party and stayed for the convos and vibe. The selection is great and the service was 10/10! I ended up returning the next day after lunch and bringing a few friends back in the evening. It’s really the place to go to unwind, enjoy great music and just be. Truly appreciate spaces like The Hippo because they’re rare but cherished! Please stop by, you won’t regret it!

If you're in the area, The Hippo Wine Bar & Shop is a must! The atmosphere is lovely, the wine offerings are excellent, and Andre (the manager) is super nice. It was an absolute delight to pop in for a glass of wine to get out of the rain. Certainly didn't expect to stumble upon such a gem!

This wine bar is a gem. The owner/bartender is genuinely knowledgeable and takes the time to explain reds by region, style, and profile. He does a great job of letting you taste and compare, not just describing them. As someone planning to open my own café/wine bar, I really appreciate our conversations on small businesses, wine knowledge/expertise and overall experience.

This is one of my favorite places in Raleigh! It’s an amazing place to taste new wines and explore the globe. Andre is absolutely amazing and so knowledgeable about all things wine. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Andre provided incredible customer service! He gave us great recommendations based on our preferences and let us try a few samples before deciding on a bottle. The lambrusco we had was delicious.

LOVE The Hippo. My friends and I go frequently and always stay for hours. No matter who is there, it's like hanging out with a bunch of friends. Andre knows his wine and is so helpful if you want to try something new!

Cute wine spot, the selection of wines to sit and have by the glass was a bit underwhelming, but the wine was good. The interior is cute and could use some more sound buffering and decor. The Hippo is worth a stop in.

A new little wine bar for downtown Raleigh, the Hippo is bringing some fun, whimsy, and wine for all! The space that was formerly Short Walk Wine has been refreshed with some pink and neon to transform into The Hippo. The space is light, bright, and features a lot of light wood, wine bar to the left, retail area in the back and lounge/seating to the right by the window. Overall it's a comfortable space, love the neon hippo sign on the wall. Where it gets a little funky is the wine bar space which is really small (6 seats) with not much room for the wine/register person to relax in. I'd want to either expand the wine bar or encourage people to use the lounge given the space. But overall I like what they are doing, more vino is usually a good thing!

The Hippo is such a cute spot! We stopped in to grab a few glasses of wine and had a fun time. It is small and when we visited they were remodeling the outdoor space since they recently opened in the space previously occupied by SWW. If you are looking for wine to take home they have a small selection. This spot is worth checking out if you are in the area.

Fantastic wine selection that's constantly updated with exciting new choices. The owner is incredibly welcoming, engaging, and well-versed in different wines. I always enjoy my visits here. There's plenty of seating and a variety of games to play. This is my go-to wine bar.

Comfy wine bar in Downtown Raleigh. $5 corkage if you buy a bottle. A small selection by the glass, one or 2 of each type of wine. A few beers and ciders. Friendly service.

Had a great time hanging with Megan and trying some wines from new areas in the world! Cannot wait to go back and hang out again.
