Simple bar with booze, karaoke & regular live music, both inside & out on the patio.
"This unpretentious dive bar and live music venue has been serving cheap drinks for over 50 years. Located on the Drag, it’s a popular spot among University of Texas students and punk and rock music fans. It features three bars, two stages (one for karaoke), and a small outdoor patio. The mix of local and touring acts and the casual atmosphere make it a favorite among music lovers and those who just love to drink." - Darcie Duttweiler
"Gary Clark Jr., Spoon, and Fastball all got their start at Hole in the Wall, and Bob Dylan once did a painting of its exterior. (He is also painted on its exterior.) Stop by and maybe you'll see the next big thing in music—or at least a fun show at a grungy taproom near UT. " - matthew jacobs
"This super-divey bar on the Drag is a perfect spot to catch an up-and-coming Austin band while crushing some beer and bites, especially because the latter comes from JewBoy Cantina with burritos, flautas, and sliders. There are indoor and outdoor areas." - Darcie Duttweiler
"The campus dive bar is the place to nurse a beer or mixed drink (including mezcal mules) while watching a live show. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas." - Nadia Chaudhury
"Austin dive bar and music venue Hole in the Wall is going to stay open for at least 20 years, as reported by Austin Monitor. The bar was able to sign a 20-year lease thanks to money secured from the city’s Iconic Venue Fund, which launched in 2020 as part of overall COVID-19 relief efforts in 2020. The publication reports that the lease includes an upfront 10-year lease with two five-year extensions worked into the deal by real estate company Weitzman Group. Hole in the Wall owner Will Tanner told Austin Monitor if they didn’t get this help, the bar would’ve closed next spring. Hole in the Wall opened in 1974." - Nadia Chaudhury
