The Hotel Salem

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe?Salem has been on the map for Bostonians ever since the 1692 witch trials, and it's about time that a boutique hotel brings the town into the 21st century. Whether you are staying the night or just trying to have a quick meal or a drink on the rooftop—one of the best and only rooftop bars in town—any traveler should stop here for a few minutes. What type of travelers will you find here? Daytrippers, suburban hipsters, and tech nerds looking for a break from the city. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book? The rooms, most of which overlook Salem's historic buildings, are comfortable and clean, with a mid-century-inspired design. Suites tend to have a lofted layout with a comfortable sitting area and light-filled upstairs bedrooms, and the micro-rooms manage to marry compact design with comfortable beds and ample natural light. We love a shower goodie. What are you likely to scoop up to take home? You're sure to bring home the sustainable amenities from Lather, an emerging sustainable grooming company. Guests can access a “digital concierge” on their devices for info about local attractions. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? There's no room service, but upstairs is The Roof, a local hot spot—though also seasonal—serving oysters, tacos, guacamole, and other small plates, plus trendy summery drinks like frosé and strawberry habañero margaritas. And the service? The concierge has the best tips about Salem, whether it's how to get dinner reservations, or which tour guides at the witch museums are the funniest. Bottom line: Worth it? The Hotel Salem's mid-century aesthetic, contemporary food and drinks, and friendly environment make it a lovely, welcome counterpoint to the more traditional and historical stops in Salem." - Todd Plummer

4 Best Day Trips From Boston to Salem, Newburyport, and Provincetown | Condé Nast Traveler

"Salem is known for the 1692 witch trials , but it's about time that a boutique hotel brings the town into the 21st century. Whether you are staying the night or just trying to have a quick meal or a drink on the seasonally open rooftop—one of a scant number of rooftop bars in town—any traveler should stop here for a few minutes. The rooms, most of which overlook Salem's historic buildings, are comfortable and clean with a mid-century design. The Winter 2017-2018 Restaurant Opening Guide: North Shore - Eater Boston

"The Hotel Salem opened in late 2017, and a New American restaurant called Counter opened soon after on the ground floor as “a modern take on a lunch counter.” Counter serves lunch and dinner, and the bar is open late. It’ll eventually have outdoor dining and a sibling rooftop bar, too." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

The Hotel Salem (Salem, Massachusetts) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Coastal New England is mostly known for sleepy seaside towns full of charming Victorian houses. But Salem, barely half an hour outside of Boston, is properly urban, perhaps nowhere more so than Essex Street, the pedestrian shopping district that’s home to the 44-room Hotel Salem. With its loft-style rooms and its mid-century modernist décor, it’s something of an ode to the downtown department store, in an era when there was still plenty of glamour associated with the concept." - Tablet Hotels

There aren’t enough good things to say about my stay here! The staff was so kind and helpful through every part of my stay, the room was so cute and clean, and the property was the best possible location. I loved that they had a lounge available to unwind in (I went during the holidays and it was decorated which was such a nice touch), and the little details like the water stations on each floor was so great to have. The in-house restaurant was delicious and made it easy to dine in your room or in the restaurant space, super convenient when you’ve had a long day. Overall 5-+ stars would stay again!

Not only is this hotel perfectly located in the heart of Salem, but the staff were unbelievably kind and accommodating! When they found out we were staying for our honeymoon, they made a point to make sure we were having a great time and knew all the best places to go. They even gifted us a bottle of wine, so sweet! They also helped us get dinner reservations on Christmas Day! I cannot recommend this place enough :)

Stayed here while on vacation from Florida. In all the experience was great, room was clean and very nice, staff was nice. There were a few cons though: 1. The toilet was separate from the shower room (fine not a problem) though the toilet room in 205 was extremely small, I am 5'6" and I whacked my knees on the wall a few times standing up and such as one does. 2. The doors in the room (bathroom and toilet room) were barn style doors that did not do their job well but not a huge issue! 3. We did put the sign on our door first thing one morning requesting for housekeeping to come in and clean up, stayed out until 30 minutes before the cut off for housekeeping and no one had come to our room to clean. Not a huge deal as we were leaving within the next 2 days. People are busy but this docked points for service. 4. The Apple TV did not work in our room as it was not setup yet (if you know Apple TV you know you have to set it up) my boyfriend (who is in IT field of work) let the guy at the front desk know this and the guy stated he would be up to our room shortly to look. He never showed so after over an hour we contacted the front desk to let them know to which they responded with there are no smart TVs in the rooms... no big deal we ended up watching things on our phones or just putting cable on in the background though this docked points for service. 5. The restaurants in the hotel are not open most days and The Roof restaurant is a seasonal restaurant. (No problem as there were so many options close by just noting for others!) Pros: 1. Very clean 2. Location is amazing and close to everything 3. The cost was super reasonable for the stay 4. Very spacious room

Google
We had an amazing experience at The Hotel Salem during our wedding weekend! Our rehearsal dinner on the rooftop was absolutely perfect—the food was delicious, the view was stunning, and the service was outstanding. The rooftop space created such a memorable atmosphere for our guests. We also hosted welcome drinks downstairs at The Counter, and once again, the food and service were excellent. The venue offered a great mix of indoor and outdoor space, which made it easy for guests to mingle and enjoy themselves. A huge thank you to Olivia, who helped us plan both the welcome drinks and rehearsal dinner. She was incredibly helpful, organized, and made everything run smoothly. We also had a room block at the hotel, and Zach was amazing to work with—responsive, accommodating, and made the entire process stress-free. The Hotel Salem was a central part of our celebration, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Highly recommend for any wedding-related events or group stays!

Google
Excellent hotel!!! The staff are super friendly and the facilities are well maintained. It is with in walking distance of many stores and attractions in the town. Honestly the only negative is the parking situation but Zachary and the folks at the salem hotel have made up for that downside in spades with their helpful and friendly service to the guests. My wife and I will absolutely stay here on any future trips to salem.

Google
I loved staying here - right in the heart of the touristy promenade. You are surrounded by shops, restaurants, and attractions, and everything is walkable. I can't say enough about the staff at this establishment. I met 4 different attendants, and each went above and beyond their expected duty at least once. Everyone was helpful and cheerful. As for the room, it's pretty cool. Very modern, kinda eclectic. The bed was comfortable and the AC worked good. There's no coffee maker, though, and for some reason, the toilet closet is a hop and a skip from the sink. Overall, I really liked the room a lot. Lastly, the rooftop bar/restaurant is really neat. I had a lovely gin cocktail and an awesome shrimp cocktail one night, and another night I had a beer and a sandwich. Very good.

Google
Say it three times and the best hotel spot for your Salem experience will appear: location, location, location! ||Parked in the Visitor Center garage on Liberty Street and didn't move for the duration of the trip. There's no need! The Witch City Mall has an elevator that takes you from the garage to the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall level (right next to Witch Pix) which is helpful for luggage - and if you can manage to roll your bags the 350 feet from the mall entrance to the hotel entrance, you've unlocked the absolute best location in Salem for all your adventures! You're next to Town Hall, which is where the Witch City tours start (also highly recommend!) plus two blocks from Witch House, the rear stairwell opens to Charter Street, and you are surrounded by ALL. THE. BARS. AND. RESTAURANTS. AND. SHOPS. Don't sleep on Nightmare Gallery next door for horror movie and character fans! Tons of characters/buskers right outside your door since the hotel entrance opens to a street closed to vehicular traffic. A beautiful complimentary coffee and tea setup on the first floor lounge to get your spook on! Bathroom was gorgeous, tons of counter surface and moody tiled shower. Water closet is separate which I actually find convenient! Do not underappreciate having a "base camp" in the heart of Salem for bathroom breaks, disco naps, phone charging, etc. - it made the trip! ||Got such a good last-minute deal on the room that we extended our trip to Salem by a day to stay here - and only regret is we had a non-refundable room already booked for the second night in Marblehead, otherwise we absolutely would have stayed! Staying four miles away from Salem seems convenient, until you've stayed in the heart of it - now I'm spoiled and there's no going back! Except to go back to The Hotel Salem! ||I also think there's a cross-promotional opportunity to have costumed characters from Essex Street assist with guest bags from the garage to the hotel :)

I had the pleasure of visiting The Hotel Salem for a family getaway, and I would return in a heartbeat. My family had already made a reservation that needed to be modified, and the AGM Zachary was very friendly, responsive and helpful over email leading up to the stay. When we arrived, Zay at the front desk was incredibly welcoming, professional, and assisted us with a well-recommended room upgrade. From arrival to departure, there was always an attentive staff member in sight, and every single staff member acknowledged every guest that walked by. Whoever is responsible for hiring and training the staff in the hotel has done an excellent job, and deserves recognition. Our suite was well appointed, meticulously clean, and had wonderful, large windows that provided excellent natural light. The rooftop bar is a must see. While we did not eat there, the cocktails and views alone are worth a visit, and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The location of the hotel is also perfect, being central to all of the activities and dining we enjoyed while in Salem.

Yelp
This Hotel was amazing and the location is the best. The hotel was clean and the service was amazing. All the staff were super nice and helpful. The only negative things I would say is the food on the roof was awful and we wish there was a coffee pot and microwave in the rooms.

Yelp
Mega cute boutique hotel. Greeted by friendly local staff. This hotel sits in an excellent location in the middle of everything. The rooms are spacious with some having stairs to their beds. Pillows could be firmer, but the beds are comfortable. Not much of a view from the third floor, but lovely views on their roof top bar. Nice drinks and tasty churros. Thank you for all the recommendations. Our one night stay was lovely.

Yelp
I ended up venturing to The Hotel Salem and had nothing short of an exceptional experience! I even arrived to a lovely handwritten note. Clearly that top notch customer service was still in tact. This time, I had no hiccups with my room or anything else and am looking forward to staying here again when I pop into town for vendor markets or visiting friends!

Yelp
I have NEVER met such a friendly group of hospitality staff. Everyone we encountered at the Hotel Salem was super nice, very accommodating, and genuinely friendly & welcoming. Special shout outs to these rock stars... Emma, Kayla, Kayleigh, Olivia and our server at the Roof, Maria. What an amazing squad! It is evident how much each one of these individuals loves working in the hospitality industry, and the pride they take in crafting memorable stays for their guests. Each one of these ladies went above and beyond to make our Anniversary stay at the Hotel Salem unparalleled and unforgettable. We were welcomed as friends not patrons, and treated like family not guests!! Our room (207), was spacious, immaculate, modern, well appointed and very comfortable. Kayla was so kind to upgrade our room. We were incredibly grateful for her kindness. Emma and Olivia brought us chocolate covered strawberries and Prosecco. Memorable!! The location is perfectly situated on Essex St., in the heart of shopping, restaurants, and bars. The rooftop bar (The Roof), has a great vibe providing cool views of Essex St. and beyond. The drinks at the Roof consisted of delicious honest pours and the menu boasted tasty Mexican specialties. Our server Maria was attentive, professional and downright wonderful!! Many thanks for an incredible stay at the Hotel Salem and the dream team that catered to us for our Anniversary celebration. We cannot wait to return!!l

Yelp
By far the best hotel experience this traveler has ever had! I've stayed in some high end hotels and paid triple the price of a stay here....no place can touch the beyond superior customer service that this hotel provides! Totally unexpected and very much appreciated. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles (pool, jacuzzi, bar, coffee shop) but it has lovely atmosphere

Yelp
This is an overdue review for the hotel Salem! This spot will forever hold a very special spot in our hearts. Big thank you to the manager Tony!! My fiancé reached out to him the week prior to our engagement so he could devise a plan. Our one year anniversary was October 1st and he wanted to propose on the roof deck here (the place we made it official the year prior!) The roof deck was closed this day because the weather wasn't great. Tony still made sure we were able to get up there just to take a few "pictures". Turns out my boyfriend was getting down on one knee !!! The roof deck here is a gorgeous spot. Nothing else like it in salem!! I can't speak to the hotel where we didn't stay the night but the bar inside is beautiful also ! Thank you Hotel salem and thank you Tony!!!

Yelp
Our wedding day at The Hotel Salem was nothing short of magical, and I cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible team, particularly Olivia, who went above and beyond to ensure that our vision came to life flawlessly. From the moment we chose The Hotel Salem as our wedding venue, the experience was marked by professionalism and a genuine commitment to making our day extraordinary. Olivia, the event coordinator, was an absolute star. Her attention to detail, creative insight, and unwavering dedication to executing our vision were truly commendable. Olivia worked tirelessly to understand our preferences, and her communication skills and responsiveness throughout the planning process put us at ease, and we knew we were in capable hands. On the big day, Olivia orchestrated every detail with precision, ensuring that the venue looked even more stunning than we had imagined. The staff at The Hotel Salem deserves a special mention for their exceptional service. From the front desk to the kitchen team, everyone was friendly, and professional, and went out of their way to make our guests feel welcome. The seamless coordination and teamwork were evident throughout the event, contributing to the overall success of our celebration. Zach, in particular, stood out for his helpfulness and attentiveness. He was a true asset, ensuring that everything ran smoothly and that any last-minute requests or adjustments were handled with ease. Zach's dedication to ensuring our comfort and satisfaction added an extra layer of assurance to the entire wedding experience. Our guests are still raving about the beautiful venue, impeccable service, and the overall warmth they felt at The Hotel Salem. The food was specifically a star my guests could not stop raving about the unique flare the food had. If you're in search of a venue with a dedicated and talented team that can bring your vision to life, look no further than The Hotel Salem. Olivia and the entire staff turned our wedding day into a dream come true, and for that, we are forever grateful. Thank you all for making our special day truly unforgettable!

Yelp
If I could give this place less than a star I would. The Hostess's were so unprofessional and rude- we waited on the line for 40 minutes which we were happy to do, they then came over and offered us a seat downstairs which we obliged without informing us that there was a completely different and limited menu. Not to mention that the basement restaurant was aesthetically unappealing. When we went back up to ask to moved to move upstairs - the rude rude hostess said that she would Put us back on the list to wait for an additional 30-40 minutes and then commented to Us "what you don't like pizza?" So rude and nasty!

Yelp
Booked this hotel through Booking.com. When I checked out, they told me there were no pre-pays on my account and charged my credit card.. I called them once I got home and realized I was charged twice by them and Booking.com, but they refuse to remove the charges stating that there were no pre-pay on my account. I've been trying to resolve ever since. They need to get it together and understand how their promotional sites work, and not make the customer work to get things organized. I'm currently out almost $400 While I try to get this resolved. It's frustrating. The hotel itself is decent, the staff is nice, very centralized to shopping and had easy access to where I needed to go, so I gave an extra star.
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
Location, Location, Location! That's what you pay for and it's worth it. It's literally walking distance to everything you could possibly want to do in Salem. It also has a rooftop bar and hotel guests get top priority for seating. The rooms were comfortable but the elevators smelled of puke the entire 3 days we were there. There's no breakfast restaurant in the hotel but the do have some free coffee on the first floor. Also no water in the rooms - you need to.ask for a glass at the bar and then go to a water dispenser on your floor which theoretical dispenses sparkling and still water. I told the manager the sparkling water was not working on our floor and it didn't get fixed the entire 3 days.
google avatar

Robert P.

Yelp
Really disappointed in this property. First of all, customer service in a hotel should be top notch. We're paying to stay at your property you should be grateful. Instead the staff was extremely rude and stale. No one is ever at the front desk when you need and the rooms have no phones to contact front desks. The rooms are literally falling apart. No hot water. Shower faucet extremely loose and falling off wall. Thee worst water pressure, not joking. It drips out of the sink faucet. Flat pillows. Stuff beds. Dirty. And I mean dirty. Dust everywhere, dead bugs on windows. Stained floors. Stained walls. Very confusing how they run a business like this ‍‍ The walls are extremely THIN. Not to mention huge gaps under doors to hallway. Expect to be woken up by vacuums and people slamming doors at 8AM on a Saturday. Also whoever was above us must've had a kid or animal running around and stomping until 1AM. The only great part is the location. Central to it all but better hotels for a more comfortable stay nearby.

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel in downtown salem. But don't ask to have drinks up on the roof. The drinks were pretty good the waitress was wonderful However we wanted to have a few people come there for drinks on aThursday night 8 -10. At first it was a thousand dollars rental plus a minimum of three thousand dollars. Once that was taken it was 15K for 2 hours. Hahaha The event coordinator basically gave us a kiss off price. Nice!! I guess you guys are fancy pants because you're owned by Lark hotels now and our $3000 for 2 hours wasn't good. Enough for you good luck with that. And you're not allowed to stand you have to sit Never going back!!
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
Loved this hotel. The staff couldn't have been nicer. Special recognition to Zachary for giving us great travel and nightlife advice. The room was great and the hotel is walking distance to every major attraction in town.

Yelp
The room is beautiful , huge bed, high ceilings . If I could change a couple things it would be less air conditioning I know it may sound weird because it's august but I had it turned off and it was still blowing . The tv was a bit small for the distance from bed to wall . It was raining for a short period of time and they shut the roof top restaurant , which actually sucked because we were only there for one evening . When we asked for coffee the person said they had no beans !!! That's bizarre There was no person at the front desk upon checkout
google avatar

Mandy G.

Yelp
This hotel leaves a lot to be desired. While the location is prime, staff can act bothered if you ask for something. The floors themselves are slanted/not even. The water in the bathroom takes about 4 days to heat up. The blinds in the rooms. Half are broken. Half the outlets also do not work in the room. They offer a $30 coupon at checkout and EVERYTIME they are out of them and say they will snail mail them to you. Beware because they never do. Unprofessional with the same response to all mediocre reviews

Claudia L.

Yelp
For the money I paid I was hoping for a much better hotel. The room and hotel is very dated and unkept. Rooms have so many damage and the elevator carpet was filthy. While it's very centric it's very touristy and dirty and not a pretty area.

Don ..

Yelp
This hotel sort of looks cool on entering it. The elevator was neat. The wallpaper was interesting. And then we walked into the room. Perhaps we had gone down some sort of spider hole. There at the end was a little space fully occupied by a king size bed. There was no room to get on either side of the bed without bouncing around on top of the other person. While this might seem fun at first blush it is hell to pay in the middle of the night when one is sleeping and the other isn't. We Americans are used to bathroom privacy far, far greater than what we saw here. Whose idea was it to put a frosted glass door on the bathroom stall? This loosely hung slider did not come close to providing scent or sound discretion. The privacy here is akin to what one would see in a Turkish toilet without a door. The shower is apparently a modern day rarity as it has NO grab bars or handles of any type except for the shower water control, even on the glass door. Nor did it have any kind of shelf to hold soap or whatever. Apparently, the architect or designer was in a race to some kind of cheapness bottom. Minimalism awkwardly dovetails with cheapness. The sitting area off the lobby resembled an episode of HGTV gone tragically wrong. A Mid Century Modern mishmash! The hotel does not provide parking so be prepared for a hike (over a faux quaint, rough surface) with suitcases. On the plus side, the staff was very pleasant and helpful.

Alex K.

Yelp
I stayed here for a weekend to celebrate my graduation and Zachary was so amazing at the front desk. He made our stay feel so welcomed. He would always go out of his way to say good morning and suggest great things to do. He is AMAZING!!!! The room was small but very cozy and was perfect for a short stay! The beds were so comfy and i slept like an angel. The roof top bar had amazing food and sangrias. I highly Recommend this hotel for anyone staying in salem.

Yelp
For context, I stayed in room 206 for a few nights just after Halloween. I arrived about 2 hours prior to check-in and unfortunately they did not have a room available yet(understandable since I was early and checking in the day after Halloween), but they were able to hold my bags while I went out and about and grabbed a late lunch and started exploring the town. When I came back right at check-in time they let me know they upgraded me to a larger room due to a heating issue in the room I had originally booked, so my review will be based on the larger King room (as opposed to the Micro-King I originally booked). The room was exceptionally spacious, more than enough room to get in a good Pilates/yoga/stretching session and fully unpack multiple full-sized pieces of luggage. There was space to hang items (they also had robes in the room, I didn't use them, but they looked nice, soft, and clean to the naked eye) and a full-sized dresser to store your folded clothing, however I will note there was no full-length mirror in the room. There was a desk with a chair and in the opposite corner a lounge chair and end table if you were to enjoy a drink or a snack in your room. In between, there was the TV hung on the wall and across from that was the ultra-comfy bed with end tables on either side, both equipped with an outlet and USB plugs, plus a little alarm clock/radio/speaker (my favorite part of this room!). The toilet was in a separate water closet across from the room with the shower and sink, a touch strange given that if someone else was showering, you would still have to walk in on them to wash your hands after using the restroom, plus the doors to these rooms were sliding farm-style doors so if you are traveling with a friend or partner they will absolutely hear everything you are doing. I was disappointed in the quality of the toilet paper, it was the thin single-ply type you are familiar with in public restrooms and I almost went out to buy my own from the CVS across the street because it was so unpleasant to use. Note for those who wear makeup, definitely bring your own makeup mirror and sit by the window to apply, the lighting in the water closet and the shower room are both atrocious because all the light comes from above and casts shadows down on you. It's also difficult to get closer to the mirror for detailed eyeshadow or eyeliner, so save yourself the aggravation and just bring a little light up mirror with you. The amenities included in the room (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bar soap, moisturizer) were all high quality and left me feeling clean and moisturized! I also highly appreciated having the mini fridge in the room as well to store extra bottles of water or leftovers from dinner, however it never seemed to get very cold, it was just enough to put a chill on a beverage, but not much else. There is no mini bar, but there was a slip of paper that listed some premade cocktails in a can, small bottles of wine, and non-alcoholic bottled beverages for purchase, just had to call the phone number and they would bring them right up to your room, however I never utilized this. I stayed on the second floor and at the end of the hall there is a set-up by the stairs with a filtered water machine and some small glass jugs to fill up and take back to your room (cups already in the room) which I highly appreciated. There was apparently tea and coffee available in the morning downstairs, but I never happened to catch it/pay attention to it. Overall the room was mostly clean when I arrived (there was a cork from a bottle of sparkling wine on the floor near the door, but everything else appeared to be clean) and all of the hotel staff I interacted with were kind and very accommodating, next time I come back to Salem I will absolutely stay again at The Hotel Salem and hope they can make some small tweaks to better the experience, but perhaps will book for August or September since many of the shops and restaurants close right after Halloween for deep cleaning and inventory checks.

Yelp
Had a great time visiting. clean hotel and nice staff. Loved that it was in walking distance of everything

Yelp
The great things about this hotel is that it's located right in the middle of Salem and is in walking distance of pretty much everything. The staff were wonderful and were able to switch my reservation since I accidentally chose the wrong date. The cons are that we waited 25 minutes to check in. There was a wedding and I understand however after driving 3 hours and giving them a heads up that we would be there in 2, it was annoying. There were other small things, like the water pressure in the shower and in the sink wasn't...even there? There weren't wash cloths given as well. The micro king was cute and such, comfortable. I'm not sure if I would stay there again just because I spent $250 for one night. If you care more about location, then I would def recommend!

Stopped in for a quick bite and drinks. Sat at the bar, the bartender was very nice and made great drinks. Food was very good and came out fast.

Good view, passable food, cold drinks. You come here for the view not the food. Had a drink that tasted like a bar mat on my first visit. Second time around I got a safer choice, hard to mess up a bud light.

Yelp
This review is only for the roof deck bar, not the hotel accommodations. All I can say is: "Go!" You need to experience Salem from this vantage point. You can see all of the city from this central location. I tried several times to get up there when it first opened and will be honest that during the summer months (as well as the insanity that October is here), there's a good possibility of being closed out or a nutzo wait time for a table. Luckily, on my birthday weekend last June, I finally got in. The service is great, the drinks are well made, but it's the views that make it worthwhile. As I write this in January, I am already thinking ahead to warmer weather.....

Yelp
Be aware there is no automobile access or valet sevice, not even to drop off your bags. This is particularily an issue if it is raining and you are trying to handle an umbrella and a couple or more pieces of luggage. And, if you have some no wheeled satchles it becomes multi trips to check in and out. Combine this with the price, I recommend you look around, especially considering this is the 4th rated of 4 hotels in Salem.

Yelp
In real estate people say location, location, location. Well the same is said for this hotel! It is in walking distance to everything in Salem. No need to rent a car. Uber up and stay. So lovely!

Yelp
Ugh. Would not stay here again. Hotel is in the main shops area. No parking. When you walk in the check in counter is to the right. But there is a bar/counter directly in front. It was never open so I am not sure what it is for. We were put in room 106 on the first level. Awkward room-high ceilings so everything echos. King bed, walk in shower. The only cool thing about the room was a small balcony off the back where you could sit and literally look at Town Hall from Hocus Pocus. Bathroom felt dirty, tile looks moldy. This hotel is so noisy. Slamming doors, yelling, talking from 11pm to 3am. Could not sleep. Not haunted just disrespectful guest and a hotel staff that does not care. I would recommend you look at other places in the area-downtown is probably much smaller/tighter together then you think.

Yelp
Overpriced... terrible parking .. it's not "across the street" The rooms are so small! King suite is a joke. Do not let the pics deceive you! There is no desk , coffee table or closet. There is no where to put your luggage. The dresser has 4 small drawers and one was broken. There are no outlets upstairs. The upstair " sitting area" is like a cliff. You can't move or you will fall down the stairs. There is a giant pole in front of the TV which btw is facing the wrong way! The pull out sofa is not something anyone would " sleep comfortably" . There are no windows you can see out... just tiny ones at feet level so you see everyone's feet walking by. It's claustrophobic. The restaurant was not open most of the time. There is supposed complimentary water/sparkling water machine in the hall but there were never any cups. You hear everything going on in halls with constant slamming entry door... oh and there are homeless people camped out front!!!! We checked out a day early and took the HUGE loss of a $500 + night stay. Such a miserable trip. We complained upon arrival... asked for a bigger room or at the very least some sort of table to put a coffee on?!?? They did NOTHING. Theiy said their "tables were broken" Save your $. There is zero to do in Salem after 5:00 anyway so you are forced into your room at night. Choose better than this one! So upset

Yelp
Firstly, I'd like to state the staff were amazing. Trevor from The Roof Top Bar was a doll! Shout out to him. Also, front desk staff - ALL amazing. So from a staff perspective, awesome! Secondly, location was great as well. We enjoyed being able to go to CVS quickly or head back to hotel easily. So staff and location are the highlights. TLDR: Don't stay here. And lastly, here are some of my gripes: 1) We stayed in Room 105. It was a terrible experience. There was slamming and pounding starting at about 7am on Friday, 10/1/2021. We don't know if it was Hotel Salem or a connecting building? This occurred just about each day. 2) Walls are so thin. You hear everything until the late hours of the evening. There isn't much night life in Salem so you're back at the hotel by about 10:30PM. So we heard it all when trying to relax. 3) The towels provided to us were ripped. 4) The toilet paper is so rough. Probably the worst I've ever used. 5) There are cracks on the wall, in the upper right corner of room when facing the window. 6) The shower doesn't have a small triangular shelf for your personal products. 7) The robes provided are not plush - very scratchy. Yikes. 8) The mattress felt more like a box spring. For almost $1800 for 4 nights - very disappointing. :( 9) No full length mirror in room, no phone in room, no room service. (Not sure if these are COVID19 related?) 10) The fridge was not cold at all! We were scared to place food into it. Breaks my heart to write this but we will not be staying here again. We will stay in Boston proper.

Yelp
This place is beautiful and chic place to stay. I think what made this place so cool, was that it was in the middle of Downtown Salem. The service was perfect and friendly. We came to this hotel during Thanksgiving weekend, and we had a perfect experience. The only problem the hotel have is that there were no microwaves in the rooms. How are people supposed to eat their food, cold? We had to eat cold food while we were there. It was difficult to try and turn the lights on and off in the room. It was confusing on which switch to handle. Overall, this is a great hotel, just make sure you know you wont get a microwave to reheat your food.

Yelp
We weren't here for too long, about a little over half hour or so but we wanted to check out the soft opening of the basement! We were NOT hotel guests. The hotel has a rooftop with a bar, heat lamps and blankets open for a couple more weeks and it's an awesome space. They also just opened up their basement almost a week ago. The basement has a full bar, tv's, games, such as the bean bag toss, music and restrooms. Due to it being a soft opening there wasn't as large of a crowd as it was on the roof but I foresee it becoming one of the places to be in Salem. The space is very open and huge windows. I'll def be returning the see how much further they've progressed with the basement. Also, Steve is one of the mangers on staff and he is AWESOME! Very kind and great customer service. He is really invested in all of the customers that check out this new hot spot in Salem. We will be back!

Yelp
Where do we even begin?! The venue is absolutely beautiful and sells itself. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm and inviting smile from the front desk staff. The team over at The Hotel Salem were a dream to deal with. Olivia and Caroline were able to bring our vision to life and totally transform the Cellar into the perfect wedding space. The communication was spot on and no grey area or questions were left unanswered. They were incredibly accommodating to any and all requests. Our guests absolutely loved the food. They keep telling us they would have has a second or third helping if they could. the chef's choice of dessert was delicious as well. All of our vendors raved about how well and organized Olivia and Caroline were. Honestly, look no further. The Hotel Salem has it all and is the perfect wedding venue any time of the year.

Yelp
This was our second stay at the Hotel Salem. We first stayed here when they first opened, and we loved it! Upon checking into the room we began to notice things were amiss and not the same as our first stay. We found a dead fly on the windowsill that was also dusty with paint peeling off. There were small holes on the bathroom wall from a previous towel rack that was removed, and the holes were never patched. There were stains on the wall by the trash bins with a small piece of food stuck on the wall & numerous smudges and prints on the walls. If all those things were missed what kind of possible enhanced Covid cleaning was done there? Perhaps the worse part was when speaking with Mike at the front desk about it, he didn't seem concerned. He told us the room received a deep clean even after showing him pictures! We had to quickly run off to a dinner reservation and couldn't pursue it further. When checking out the next morning, it was clear no note was left. Nikkita at the front desk asked us how our stay was, and we said "it was just okay". She didn't follow up, but rather just immediately proceeded with check out. As a real estate professional I could tell there were clear deficiencies with their cleaning and maintenance crews and a lack of inspections/standards by management. We were really looking forward to our stay as we normally love the Lark style and hospitality, but this time they truly missed the mark and did not seem to care about our concerns.

Yelp
Drinks are a 4/5 (I recommend the Sky Tai) - but will definitely not be ordering food here again. Bartenders were great and super friendly, but their tacos has zero flavor and were dry as hell :(

Yelp
Didn't realize that there was no parking available and the nearest overnight lot is 5 blocks away. As a single traveler, on a two month trip, I had too much luggage to park that far away. Canceled my reservation and stayed a block away where they had two lots.

Yelp
Went to Hotel Salem to have dinner on a quite week day night in November. We sat down ordered drinks, which came on a plastic cup. Waited over 30 minutes to get the attention of the waitress again. There were 6 people behind the bar, we were the only table and at some point we even waived and called out loud.... by the time they showed up again we did not want to give them any more business so we went elsewhere for dinner.

Yelp
It's pricey for sure and you have to park in a garage and schlepp your bags pretty dang far and of course the hotel doesn't reimburse you which isn't cool and there's a very cool rooftop restaurant and bar and you guessed it, they're going to get deep into your pocket there too and paying $8 for a taco is insane so the whole deal sets up as a fleecing do doubt. That said! It's a delightful place to stay in a great location with nice employees and every damn place you go today is going to rip you off to some extent right? I mean a freaking 2-star dump is getting you for $160/night! It's sick, and $12 for a well drink? I can't take it so I'm just going to pony up the extra $100, get a nice room, bring my own liquor and enjoy myself and then I'll just eat Raman noodles for a week. This is good joint and a cool town, very fun.

Yelp
Would never stay here again. Poor experience. Stayed for a hotel block. Barely any one ever at the reception desk and when there is a desk attendant they are rude and complain about noise levels. The roof top bar was extremely disappointing and cut off hotel guests after two beverages. Come to find out a staff member told us they cut us off because they were understaffed. Parking situation is completely ridiculous and parking isn't even validated. Rates are out of control as well. The micro king is laughable and I would recommend for one person to stay in it. I have told SEVERAL people about how bad the experience has been.

Yelp
Love this place!!! My niece just had her wedding there and the staff was incredible. The restaurant food is delish and you can't beat the staff... friendly accommodating and helpful. A nice place to stay. Highly recommend it!

Jordyn K.

Yelp
Ya no. This place is awful and the staff is absolutely terrible. So rude. Not accommodating. This place has to be a front for something, because it was just such a terrible experience and I'm shocked they get any bookings. If I could buy zero stars. I would. I hope the staff takes a good hard look at themselves and feel ashamed. Ugh.

Yelp
The hotel salem is a pretty cool place. The employees are awesome, and it looks really nice. However there are some issues. The biggest issue is accessibility, if you want to stay here your ass better be able to walk and walk well. The parking is pretty far away, and it's not possible to drop some off out front because of the layout of the place. My second complaint is coming straight from 1998, there are no phones in the rooms. I get it, everyone has a smart phone, but is this the overlook hotel? The inability to pick up a phone and talk to the front desk gives it a isolatingly creepy vibe at times. Would definitely stay again, provided I am healed at the revival I'm on my way to attend. *Edit to add the most important thing. There are no ice machines. Yes I know I said there was accessibility issue, but can you imagine my dismay when I make my "snow of kilamanjaro"-esq hike and I have to drink my gin and tonic without ice like a fucking pleb. For real last thing - the bathrooms look like you should have a safe word to use them. Otherwise great

Yelp
I was really disappointed. If I'm staying at a place that claims to be a boutique hotel and am splurging an average of $400 a night, for multiple nights, I expect pretty close to perfection. That was not the case. The bathroom had water damage and black specks in the ceiling. It was not mentioned. The bedding has runs and snags in it. Decorative towel had a hole in it. Toilet had a black ring. The multi use toiletries kind of concern me, as the person before me could tamper with them. At checkout I was not asked about my experience. The location is nice, staff was helpful at checkin, and housekeeping was polite.

Yelp
Location is incredible and staff is very friendly and helpful! Perfect place to stay for a night away as there's plenty of great restaurants/bars within a 5 minute walk. The rooms are decorated in a very modern way and are quite spacious. The staff here is super friendly and they also have restaurant space on the first floor and the roof is open in the summers as a great place to grab a cocktail. They do have cocktails/beer/wine that you can order direct to your room as well. 5/5 hotel salem!

Yelp
A beautiful establishment in the heart of Salem. From the warm welcome from Mike Millea to the bartenders Ben and Amanda who were incredibly attentive and so sweet. The bar options were plentiful and there's definitely something for everyone. We were grateful to enjoy the rooftop at the cusp of Spring. Their homemade cinnamon whiskey is an excellent addition to your afternoon galavanting about. Rooms are clean, cozy and very homey.

Yelp
This hotel met our expectations! Check-in was quick and easy. The girls at the desk were so helpful and friendly. The hotel room was exactly as advertised. It's right beside all the wonderful shops in Salem. The only downside: no parking. However, there is paid public parking available a short walk away.

Yelp
It was a beautiful day in Salem where sitting on a rooftop sipping drinks are perfect. I had the sangria and the crab guacamole. The sangria was OK not super strong more water than anything. The guacamole was bland. No salt no lime. Literally avocados, tomato, pickled onion, maybe jalapeno topped with crab. I had to add my own salt because the salt from the chips was sparse. We did let our waitress know that it was at least lacking lime and she took the feedback back to the kitchen. My friends had the lobster quesadilla and absolutely loved it. The kept raving on the aioli sauce. The lumps of lobster were huge from what I could see. All in all this was a great place to enjoy the sun and ambience

Yelp
Where do I begin. First, I will say the location is great. Also, we did have a couple good servers. Kat and Lacey. That's all though. Let me start from the top with the issues. The room was already dirty. No one ever dawned our door once in 3 days. Trash piled up in our garbage cans. Dust on everything. We had to get our own towels, linens and toilet paper. We didn't put out a no service sign. We had an entire wall of outlets that didn't work. 4 to be exact. I told them about it on day one and no one ever addressed it. We had to unplug lamps to plug in things we needed to charge. The rooms were as hot as I can only imagine HELL would be. Not enough fans to go around. It truly was miserable. The hotel decided to have a halloween party for non-guest on Saturday. It had a dj that was making our floor shake. We were unable to use our room in a peaceful manner until midnight. That was a long night. We were called two days before our check-in and made away of the "party." The noise level was so unacceptable. Also, there were people roaming the building with no mask on. I mentioned it to the front desk and nothing was done to correct it. We are talking 100s of people coming and going. In direct violation of the city ordinance. COVID nightmare. Hotel doesn't give their guest any priority to the roof top bar or really anything else. They are more concerned with people off the street. When you're paying almost $650 a night, you would expect the basics. Clean, comfortable, safe and noise free rooms. We didn't get any of this. I felt unsafe due there being no security for access to the hallway for our rooms. There were non-guest all over the building. People wondering the halls. We expected crowds. We expected a little crazy. What we didn't expect was rude desk staff and horrible accommodations for what we spent. Think twice before booking this place. Location isn't always worth it.

Yelp
Place looks amazing when you walk by, lots of patrons. Service is at most minimal. Brian B had us wait 15- minutes after being seated than told the other waiter after we've bagged her twice about it that he was closing his section it might be a while. Thankfully a beautiful waitress held us down all and all besides Brian B, place was okay

Yelp
Stayed here on a Monday night. The hotel itself: shows very well. The lounge is very trendy and nicely decorated. The staff are very friendly and down to earth. The location is probably the best location in Salem for a hotel, right on the Main Street of downtown surrounded by everything. The room appears quite nice however I had a few problems with it. The cleanliness of the room was sub par for the price and atmosphere of the hotel. Things were half dusted, the floors were quite filthy, and the bathroom door didn't close, it just kept sliding back open. There was loud music coming from the hallway around 9 am and when I opened the door it was an employee in the hallway who just stared at me. I think that because the hotel is so new they might be figuring things out still. I was quite disappointed at the lack of amenities. I paid 200 dollars for a hotel room and the restaurant was closed, rooftop closed, and there's no room service or food. I think that for the amount I paid I expected a bir more, but like I said, the hotel itself shows well and is nicely designed. I just didn't receive the value I paid for.

Yelp
Review of bar: Really pretty place. The kind of place with well to do people. Let's say "classy hipster"/"hipster with money". It's so gorgeous inside and out and the bar is right inside the door. The glass windows make it so special! Would love to come back when I have more money.
