13 Hottest Restaurants in Asheville Right Now, April 2024

"Located in a former Greyhound bus station, the Hound comes from Zambra owner Peter Montague and the Copper Crown owner Adam Bannasch. The East Asheville lounge offers an extensive cocktail list, along with a list of snacks like boquerones or duck pastrami on rye. For more substantial meals, guest food trucks and chefs show up with various cuisines (watch Instagram for details)." - Kay West

12 Best Rooftops and Restaurants for Outdoor Dining in Asheville | Eater Carolinas

"Based on its sleek and cozy appearance, you might be surprised to discover this relative newcomer’s location is a former Greyhound bus station, and that’s not the only surprise you’ll find at this East Asheville lounge. Its dog-friendly patio area is spacious, tranquil, and beautifully landscaped, which only elevates the experience of eating its innovative bites like banh mi hot dogs, teriyaki meatballs, and wilted bok choy salad. It’s equally innovative, music-inspired craft cocktails, like Lady Stardust, Rusty Cage, and Autumn Sweater, also wow." - Brook Bolen

The Hound is one of East Asheville’s best surprises. Tucked away but full of charm, this spot delivers way beyond what you’d expect — from creative bar bites, full meals, to a welcoming, laid-back atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. The food from Bonito Kitchen in The Hound is standout: fresh, flavorful, and clearly crafted with care. Pair that with solid drinks, attentive staff, and a vibe that feels equal parts neighborhood bar and foodie destination, and you’ve got a winner. If you haven’t made your way to The Hound yet, put it on your list. It’s a true East Asheville gem that proves great things happen when food, drink, and community come together.

This place is awesome. Very casual “seat yourself and order at the bar” spot but with food better than most sit down restaurants. Ambience is also a cool vibe. I ordered the Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp and a Mule. I was floored by how good the shrimp dish was. The drink was also perfect. Spent $45 after tax and tip. Will 100% come back next time I am in Ashville.

Melissa was able to tell it was our first time there and made it feel like home immediately. I mean the pictures just don't do justice to how flavorful and amazing the food actually was. We spent about 20 minutes reading the menus because it was too hard to decide. Spacious overall lounge areas, very welcoming, and chill 😎

The kimchi slaw is a great snack to have with one of their local beers. I'm not vegetarian or gluten free but they had a lot of options that fit these diets that I think I would enjoy (including the kimchi slawI did get and love), so it will work great for a group with mixed diet requirements/preferences. At least half of the food options are either vegetarian and/or gluten free. (Menu photos attached from August 2025).

Wow what an unassuming place, the restaurant is beautiful with great outdoor seating and thoughtful indoor. Have somehow never been here but went tonight with my girlfriend and had a great time. Prices are incredibly fair for what they offer. The bar staff was all great Melissa was thoughtful and full of poise as were all the staff but only got her name. The short rib was great and my girlfriend had the stir fry dish and loved it too. This place could charge 20-40 percent more and I’d still come.

Google
Fantastic food and incredible cocktails. You know a place is good when the drinks don't depend on sugar syrup for flavor! If I lived in town I'd be here all the time. Do yourself a favor and visit!

Google
What a gem in Asheville! I knew Chef Cookie would represent! Fantastic menu with so much love and details in each dish. I believe the spam is even homemade. The place has been renovated to be that locals spot. Try it out!

Google
This place far exceeded our expectations. The Hound has a relaxed vibe and welcoming feel - like home. The menu was very creative and internationally diverse. It seems they change up their menu often, which never tires out a frequent diner. We like to try bread pudding everywhere we go and this guava one was the best we've ever had!!

Yelp
What a wonderful little spot! It's amazing how an old bus station could be transformed into such a gorgeous, welcoming and downright cool bar. Plenty of seating, indoors and outdoors. Service was excellent and the place was filling up shortly after their 4:00 pm opening. Since we arrived just after they opened, it was easy to find a parking spot. When we left about an hour later, the parking was full, and people were parking on the side street. There was a pop-up shop providing the food for the evening, so we did not have any of the items on the Hound's menu. Chef Paul Cressend provided a few dishes that we ordered. The meatballs with the 12-hour gravy were my favorite, deep flavor to the sauce and the perfect portion size. Our table had two drinks, a glass of Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand) and the Hit the Coast cocktail. Everyone was happy!! Can't wait to go back again soon!

Yelp
Amazing new neighborhood bar. Beautiful spot, completely renovated. This spot is previously a greyhound bus station location. Now lovingly called The Hound. Gorgeous roll up window around the building to take in mountain air on days when it's nice out. And the patio area is beautiful landscaped. The owners have other service businesses in town. So this place has been crafter with decades of food and beverage experience in mind. Their staff is experienced as well which is wonderful when you want a good drink. I honestly am impressed with how affordable their menu is especially their cocktails. The superior ingredients make this a one of a kind menu with lots of thought. Their staff helped contribute to the list of cocktails and it's a real crowd pleaser. I love the classic cocktail vibes and getting something new. I'll be back for sure. I low this spot.

Yelp
Wow! Fantastic hidden gem just outside of downtown. I came here Saturday for a nightcap (round two). This was a quarter mile from my hotel but I drove anyway because I started at Sovereign Remedy first, but Hound caught my eye as I drove past it and I knew I would stop there before heading back to the hotel and I am so glad I did. I had a perfectly pleasant and enjoyable experience sitting at the bar sipping on a bubbly drink (Inertia Creeps - spritz, aperol, mandarin, prosecco, soda, orange peel) and reading my book. The bartender was really nice. It's a well decorated area with plenty of cozy seating options. It was nearly empty on Saturday around 10pm which was perfect for the kind of experience I wanted then! I was really tempted by the potstickers on the menu (they had some other appetizing sounding selections). This is another place I'll definitely return to. Pricewise too, it's great; drinks are around $10-12 and bar bites between $8-10, can't beat that!

Yelp
I decided to have my birthday at The Hound! I called to see if the could accommodate 15-25. They enthusiastically agreed! Everyone ( 21 people including myself) had a great time. The wait staff the patiently served us were great and the food was really good! I felt like I was entertaining in my own home. I had this party on Tuesday! I would call ahead if it was a weekend!

Yelp
Loved the repurposed space and ambiance! The garage doors were open and it was a perfect fall evening. We loved the lighting and great selection of beers. The cocktail menu looks great, too! Tonight was a special pop-in of Venezuelan food that looked good. Excited to come back and try more.

Yelp
Solid! Great outdoor space. Lots of hounds including our dog enjoying the patio. The Blue Plate food truck was there and awesome (not sure if they are always there or if trucks rotate?). Service was fast and friendly. What's not to love?

Yelp
The menu was limited but the food was great. I really enjoyed sitting at the window seating and taking in the beautiful weather.

Yelp
Remarkable on in all categories. Very comfortable space, welcoming and professional staff. It feels spacious and inviting.. I'd definitely suggest you go with their recommended cocktails. They are very well balanced and the presentation is stunning. I'll be back soon to dig further into the appetizer menu.

Yelp
Amazing location, calming atmosphere and service was friendly. Prices are approachable too when everything in town is crazy expensive. Super excited to have this gem in our neighborhood. Our new spot!
